When I was young, I had my own agenda and things I thought were most important in my life. I had
everything in order and I knew exactly what I wanted to do and when to do it. I did, however, have
my daily chores. I had smaller chores like cleaning my room or helping put dishes in the sink
starting around six years old. As I got older my chore list became longer which included washing

reason why she killed her children.
While Sethe was a slave, she made the choice of killing her children in order to protect them. In her
view, "It ain't my job to know what's worse. It's my job to know what is and to keep them away from
what I know is terrible. I did that." (p. 165) This means Sethe did not want to know what would
happen if her children were still alive. This demonstrates that Sethe wanted the best for her children
and wanted to kill them so they wouldn't have to go through slavery. Another example of Sethe's

For many home could be defined as the physical spaces we inhabit. However, for others home is

could be categorized in micro and macro levels. The micro level could reflect on the immediate

Generally speaking, readers are encouraged to respond to Sethe's actions like most other characters
in the novel and deem her actions as disgusting and unforgivable. This is due to the fact that most
characters, such as Stamp Paid and Paul D, feel that, "more important than what Sethe had done was
what she claimed" (Morrison 193). This refers to the fact that Sethe justified her actions and did not
necessarily feel that she had done anything wrong–in fact, she felt that her plan had worked out, as

As a result of this, the people she needs forgiveness from aren't her neighbors or the general public,
but are rather Howard, Bulgar, and most importantly, Beloved herself. Despite sinning against

The Southern portion of the United States ranging from the East Coast to Texas is commonly
referred to as the South. Two different versions of this area exist. One is the true South that anyone
who drives through states like Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi will see. The other South is a
popularized depiction of this region. Hollywood has played a part in constructing this version of the
South by creating countless movies that have depicted a stereotyped South fixated on the
Antebellum Era. The 2002 movie "Sweet Home Alabama" poetries Southerners that are trying to
