Examples Of Rapport And Empathy
Angelica Lai – Discussion #2: Empathy and Rapport Building rapport and empathy with clients is
extremely important no matter what the job is. As mentioned throughout this module, empathy and
rapport fuel the relationship between people. My previous work experience includes working at a
movie theatre and hospital security. Both jobs required rapport and empathy as these jobs required
serving the public. However, even though the jobs itself were different, both had the same
underlying task, which is working with people. Working at the movie theatre, it is directed to more
of a customer service job, where often the guests get upset over issues we as the employee do not
understand. I found once you put their issues in front of your own personal ... Show more content on

I found if I focus on the interpersonal aspect of the relationship, I can build and maintain positive
working relationships. However, this is not the only skills that are important. It is important to
showcase characteristics, or attributes like trust, respect, humour, and integrity. After reading the
content in Module 2, I have seen skills I use, but also new skills I am going to incorporate. One
suggestions I am going to incorporate is the acronym E.M.P.A.T.H.Y. from the Ted Talk by Helen
Riess (2013). The reason being that, this is an easy acronym to remember and apply when building
both rapport and empathy. I will need to practice this for a while, but as soon as I get it right, it will
be an easy guideline to help build that connection with others. Another skill, which was explained in
this module was the power of powerless communication from the Ted Talk by Adam Grant (2013).
In a security position it is often explained to talk with assertiveness, but sometimes this backfires as
the client becomes more aggressive. By applying the concepts of tentative talking, it may help build
that rapport and empathy as it shows a more humanistic side. I think it is important that we show our
humanistic side, as many individuals just see the uniform and not the person wearing it. By applying
these skills, I

Shaping Residential Buildings
The issues to resolve and is shaping residential buildings, which is affected by many factors related
to climatic, socio–demographic, urban and other objective and subjective.
The main characteristic of all the adverse effects of the living environment on human health is their
complexity and synergy, which is why it difficult to identify the individual living environment of
negative factors that cause such non–specific, but the massive violations of health, such as malaise;
reduced work capacity; fatigue. All this led to the emergence of such terms in the scientific literature
as "sick buildings" and "tired of the city."
Errors in architecture and construction are not immediate. The architecture can freeze the bugs for a

Wood Framing Research Paper
Wood individuals are sliced and joined to make floors, dividers and the top of a structure as per the
arrangement of construction archives and local building codes. Since the 1830s, two strategies for
wood framing have been utilized to encourage building a structure: balloon framing and platform
framing.
Balloon framing was genuinely well known on the east drift and parts of the Midwest previously.
Today it isn't for the most part permitted by current building codes. Be that as it may, it regards
know about the technique if it is experienced in the field. In this kind of framing the wall stud lays
on the sill plate with a rim joist in the interior side and after that the floor joist. The stud wall is
persistent from the sill plate to the best plate. At the second level the floor association, joists lay on a
ledger and are then face nailed to the studs.
Platform is the most widely recognized type of wood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What's more a greater amount of the outside wall can be insulated because of the more proficient
framing.
The finalization of the schedule for a particular project will fluctuate in light of numerous elements
including, yet not restricted to, size and level of trouble of the structure, site and climate conditions,
material and contractual worker accessibility, team sizes, powerful planning and correspondence, the
learning and experience of those dealing with the project, and maybe most essentially, the number,
convenience, and many–sided quality of the progressions unavoidably made to the first contract
after construction has started.
Floor, wall, rooftop and stair congregations are each comprised of particular dimensional wood
segments (said to be like a skeleton.) These segments are affixed together to shape the structure as
well as enable the interior spaces to properly work as they are needed to. Wood pieces are normally
associated with nail clasp nails or

The Celsus Ephesus Library
In the modern day Turkey, wide road of Marble slopes down to Celsus Ephesus Library, one of the
ancient world libraries. In Ephesus, the library is one of the most beautiful structures. Construction
of the building took place between 117AD and 135AD (Laale, 76). Vitruoya, a Roman architect
designed the structure. The library was to memorize Celsus Polemeanus, a Roman senator, province
of Asia General Governor. It was Julius Aquila–Celsus' son initiative. Specifically Celsus loved
books. The design of the library takes the form of Roman architecture (Francis, Jarzombek, &
Prakash, 65). Celsus grave was under the ground floor inside a tomb of marble and in a lead
container. The grave was across the entrance and over it was the Athena statue. This is because
Athena was wisdom goddess. A significant element about the building is the storage of manuscript
scrolls. They manuscripts scrolls were put in cupboards in the walls niches. Behind bookcase were
double walls to prevent the scrolls from extreme humidity and temperature. The library had a
capacity of over 12000 scrolls (Foss, 78). The other main reason for the library was as a monument
for Celsus.
According to Foss, (119) Celsus library was the third wealthiest library in the ancient period after
Pergamum and Alexandra. The structure was made of perfect marble and bedecked with figures of
Nike, garlands in relief, Eros and rosettes (Laale, 98). The building shows the attributes of Emperor
Hadrian age. The library façade

Perpustakaan Negara and Pusat Sains Negara
Other than that, both the National Library, 'Perpustakaan Negara', and The National Science Centre,
'Pusat Sains Negara', have the same purposes in which to allow the public gain knowledges from
their visits. The National Library building design was influenced by the concept of a traditional
Malay men head gear called 'tengkolok songket' which can be seen exteriorly.
Most of the public building as mentioned above used a 'traditional' approach in it's design concept.
This indicated that part of the traditional influences is still being use locally in the progress of
forming the urban characteristic of Kuala Lumpur.
Other than all the mentioned buildings in previous pages, the other major components in
contributing urbanism in Malaysia is the old local shophouses which also had been the source of
economic growth and helps in the local urban development around 1970s.
In 20th century, three storey shophouses were built in Kuala Lumpur and had been quite popular in
comparison to other single and double storey shophouses in other places due to the high demand of
land values and urban progression to accommodate increasing capacity, also to provides enough
neccessities and needs of the town people back at that time. Although the storey height of the
shophouses is increasing, the plot arrangement and layout remains the same along the existing street

The Effect Of Outrigger Truss On Composite High Rise...
Study on Effectiveness of Outrigger Truss in Composite High–Rise Buildings by Simplified Method
Ei Ei Khine – Ph.D Candidate, Department of Civil Engineering, Yangon Technological University,
Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar eekmayday83@gmail.com Abstract–The design of tall
and slender structures is controlled by three governing factors, strength (material capacity), stiffness
(drift) and serviceability (motion perception and accelerations), produced by the action of lateral
loading, such as wind and earthquake. Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling the
serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on effectiveness of
outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal buildings that can be minimized the
deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50
storey square shape buildings respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings
without using outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base
shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Therefore, for the proposed buildings to get
minimum deflection, the outrigger is more effective than simplified method.

Strength-Based Approach To Social Work
Introduction It is important for programs in which families attend be diverse, locally accessible and
promote social justice. This allows growth for children, youth and families to develop in the right
setting and gain strength and resilience. Everyone has a different story and having programs that are
specific to one group of people that share something in common gives those in the program the
opportunity to develop. The Military Family Resource Centre is a prime example of a program that
uses the strength–based approach to help clients where they are in life. This is done by using social
location (which is groups people belong to based on their location in society), diversity and social
justice within the programs offered. There is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be done by looking at their social location, their diversity and advocating and providing
social justice. My own social location plays into looking into what action could take place to make
the centre's a better place for children. My suggestions include having programming for children and
youth who are feeling anxious or depressed about their life situation. Military children, youth and
families are uniquely different and programming for them need to be sensitive. The Military Family
Resource Centre's across Canada create an open and safe place for children, youth, and families,
advocates for their needs, in a diverse and unique way. The centre's create programming that are

Nt1310 Unit 1 The Environment Analysis
1) Factor 4:
The main aim of factor 4 is to decrease the level of materials utilization and usage of human
resources to one fourth level. The Factor 4 follows a set of guidelines for comparing design options
and for evaluating the performance of buildings and their component systems. Factor 4 suggests that
for humanity to live sustainably today, we must rapidly reduce resource consumption to one–quarter
of its current levels. Fortunately, the technology to accomplish Factor 4 reductions in resource
consumption already exists and requires only public policy prioritization and implementation.
2) Factor 10:
Energy use by buildings would be reduced by a Factor 10 or more below that of conventional
buildings. The purpose of factor 10 is a long–term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inactive outline utilizes the building's geometry, introduction, and mass to condition the structure
utilizing regular and climatologic gimmicks like the site's sun oriented insolation.
7) Natural Step:
The Natural Step provides a framework for considering the effects of materials selection on human
health. Robèrt suggested that many human health problems, particularly those of children, result
from materials we use in our daily lives. The extraction of resources such as fossil fuels and metal
ores from the planet's crust produces carcinogens and results in heavy metals entering the earth's
surface biosphere
8) Eco– efficiency:
The concept of eco–efficiency includes environmental impacts and costs as a factor in calculating
business efficiency. The WBCSD considers the term eco–efficiency to describe the delivery of
competitively priced goods and services that satisfy human needs and enhance the quality of life
while progressively reducing ecological impacts and resource intensity throughout the products' life
cycles to a level commensurate with the earth's estimated carrying capacity.

The Six Secrets Of Change
The Six Secrets of Change: What the Best leaders Do to Help Their Organizations Survive and
Thrive.
Fullan, M. (2008). San Francisco: Jossey– Bass
Fullan has previously written on the topics of moral purpose, understanding change, relationships,
knowledge use and coherence in organsisations. In The Six Secrets of Change Fullan addresses the
question of social change in organisational leadership, or more pertinently the question of "What do
we know about successful organisational change under complex conditions?" Fullan exemplifies
organisational behaviours in which implementation has been successful and where attempts have
failed. He provides examples of how effective and long lasting changes, which will ultimately
improve culture and efficiency, have been manifested in private and public businesses and schools
throughout the world.
Michael Fullan, OC, is the former Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the
University of Toronto. Fullan is recognized as a worldwide authority on educational reform. He
advises policymakers and leaders around the world in helping to achieve the moral purpose of all
children learning. The Six Secrets of Change draws on Fullan's research from educational
organisations as well as private businesses. Fullan makes it clear that he believes that a good theory
should be applicable across both private and public organisations and must be in context. He states
that the "six secrets" are not intended to be

Fitness Plus
Students should begin by analyzing the capacity of the facility; however, the analysis is not as
straightforward as it first may seem. There is an issue of how capacity should be measured. Students
should quickly recognize that an overall measure of capacity for the facility isn't much help in
determining if Fitness Plus is capacity constrained. If the service delivery process for each member
were homogeneous, such as a cafeteria or airline flight, then an overall measure of capacity, such as
the number of members serviced over a given period of time, would be an appropriate measure of
capacity. However, the service delivery process at Fitness Plus is a menu–driven process where each
member chooses from a range of services the club ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these issues in mind, the students can develop capacity estimates similar to the following:
1. Aerobics
* Assumption: Aerobics classes begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes.
* Capacity: 1 class per hour for 35 members
2. Cardiovascular
* Assumption: During peak demand times, each piece of equipment is limited to 30 minutes per
member.
* Capacity: With 29 pieces of C–V equipment, 58 members per hour peak capacity
3. Nautilus
* Assumptions: Each member takes 1 minute to complete each exercise. The machines are set up so
members flow through in a sequential manner.
* Capacity: Maximum capacity at a steady state; cycle time 1 minute. 60 members per hour
Over the three–hour peak demand period, the Nautilus area may only process 156 members because
it will take 24 minutes for the first member to complete the entire 24–machine cycle.
These three areas of the club are the major areas of concern due to customer complaints, and they
are where students should concentrate their analysis. The tennis and racquetball areas can service the
following number of members per hour:
Tennis: 12 members/hour for singles 24 members/hour for doubles
Racquetball: 16 members/hour for singles 32 members/hour for doubles
There were no details given in the case to determine the capacity of the free–weight area. So, if we
aggregate the individual capacities into an overall measure, the club can accommodate a peak
capacity of 181 to 209

Swot Analysis Of Grandma's Strengths And Weaknesses
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Strengths
Grandma's Best has many strengths, one of which is supplier diversity. This diversity provides
multiple procurement channels for goods and services. Obtaining a large catalog of suppliers create
scenarios that involve multiple suppliers that compete for Grandma's business. In doing this
Grandma's reduces the overall cost of the product/service. This drives competition between
suppliers, which increases the bottom dollar for the company and ensures that Grandma's is not over
reliant on any one supplier. The relationship that the company has with the brokers is a key asset,
these brokers have the capability of being able to expand on the existing channels of distribution.
The fact that Grandma's Best is financially stable is another positive for the firm. The company's
financial performance and profitability are solid, as production capabilities have expanded with
increased sales creating positive net income. There was an increase in net income of 112.8% from
the previous year, an indication of good financial profitability. Although Grandma's Best owns a
very low market share (.05%), it has seen great compound annual growth for the past three years of
4.62%, which is better than the average United States confectionery market.
Weaknesses
There are a few weaknesses we identified: no vision or mission statement, underutilized website,
lack of capacity and lack of technology and information systems. According to Ceil Wloczewski of
Cella Consulting, "mission, vision and values statements are crucial to communicating the who,
what and why for your organization to corporate management, team members and to the users of
your services. It's not enough to feel passionate about the products and services your organization
offers, you and your entire team also have to consciously understand the framework of what drives
the organization. This is essential in order to effectively communicate those drivers to a diverse
group of people. (http://www.cellaconsulting.com/blog/three–things–you–cant–do–without–
mission–vision–and–values–statements/) In today's society social media and a strong online
presence can be key factors in the growth of a company, Grandma's Best is lacking in this area.

CONSTRUCTION OF BUILT FACILITIES AND OUTLINE HOW THESE FACTORS HAVE
OPERATED ON THIS DEMAND IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
The determination of demand of goods and services produced the construction industry is a
complicated process. This is partly due to the cost, size, longevity and investment nature of the and
partly due to the broad range of what constitutes construction activity. It is difficult to envisage just

technological and legal/legislative based. Local factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CONSTRUCTION PRICE
The relationship between the price and the commodity price is a recurring theme in the economic
literature. McConnell et al (2009) shows that the price levels of a commodity are dependent on the
demand of that particular commodity. The construction industry also follows the same model; the
construction price levels are dependent on the demand for construction. It is also suggested that a
fluctuating demand for construction leads to fluctuating prices and vice versa suggesting that the
demand for construction may depend on the relative price of construction. A common measure of
trends in price in the construction industry is the tender price index, which measures the treads in the
cost of construction to construction clients and reflects the trend in the accepted tender prices.
Therefore we can say that the construction price of built facilities determine the demand of the built
facilities, because when the price goes down the demand goes up.
REAL INTEREST RATE
Real interest rate may be used as a proxy variable for credit market conditions (Akintoye et al,
1993). the cost–of living indices or consumer price index that provides a rough estimate of changes
in prices are incorporated into interest rate to arrive at real interest rate as a measure of credit market
conditions for the investors. Investment in construction is most likely to be financed from loan credit
or organisation profit; hence real

Lastly, the law required installation of fire sprinklers systems on public occupancy and building

making with problems were minor for example of assistance of untrained staff, delay of egress
process, non–existing fire sprinkler systems in the building, inadequate exit fire doors and over the

Building Design of the Engineering and Computing Builiding...
Introduction
As an aspiring Architectural Technologist I will be expected to possess a variety of skills which are
valuable for any Architectural Technologist position. I will be studying and evaluating a building
design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure,
identifying, why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes.
This will allow me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design.
1.1 Design philosophy and aesthetics
The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates' and built by
main contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates' were trying to create a sustainable
postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a landmark in the centre
of the city. Designed to meet the university's long–term needs in terms of improving the student
learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself.
The 15,000m² building is enclosed in a square, split into two 'L' shaped blocks. Linked together by a
glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner.
The 'L' block facing the south and west has been configured as the 'Nature' block. This four–storey
'Nature' wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to
encourage the local wildlife. Well known to attract insects that pipistrelle bats are known to prefer.

Building Leadership Capacity in Student Council with the Purpose of Improving School Culture
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only

try to make student life more fun and engaging. St. Mary is a Catholic high school in a small
suburban setting. The school has a history of achieving high academic results. The school

Developing a school culture that is engaging and inclusive will require a focus on building the
collective leadership capacity of the student council and school staff.
The concern is that our school has a narrow focus on how we support students. There needs to be an
inclusive culture so that our school does not "become fragmented silos" (Deal & Peterson, 2009, p.
163). To avoid this from happening the first step will be to engage others to make a cultural shift
that is inclusive of all students at St. Mary. Foundational to changing culture is the need to build
relationships and establish trust. Bryk and Schneider (2003) describe trust as "respectful exchanges
[that] are marked by genuinely listening to what each person has to say and by taking these views
into account in subsequent action" (p. 42). I intend to do this with students by giving them the
opportunity to share their ideas and then advise them on how they can develop these ideas into
school activities. I will also need to establish trust amongst the teachers who are helping with
Student Council. "In order for the school's members to embrace the proposed changes and to change
their field of perception, they need valid, sufficient, understandable information on those changes

Building Organizational Capacity For Change
Introduction Organization capacity for change as discussed in William Judge's book, Building
Organizational Capacity for Change, includes eight dimensions trustworthy leaders, trusting
followers, capable champions, involved middle management, systems thinking, communication
system, accountable culture, and innovative culture (Judge, 2011). Recognizing the need for change
and initiating change are two different elements, knowing that a change needs to happen but not
having the organizational capacity to make the change will stall any initiative in its tracks. A leader
influences whether or not an organization has the capacity for change, and as discussed by Judge,
(2011) one of the most important influences is being a trustworthy leader. A leader also needs to
recognize when a change is needed and be ready to initiate that change.
Monitoring and Responding to the Drivers of Change Drivers of change include, to name a few,
technology trends, state of the economy, globalization, and customer expectations. These drivers are
going to look and feel different across industries and will be dependent on other drivers such as
competition and industry trends. Monitoring for these changes include understanding the current
technology, attending conferences that provide insight to the newest or upcoming technology
advancements in your industry. This may also be accomplished through professional associations
and contacts. Current state of the economy will

Overpopulation And Pollution For The City Of An Ideal City
Today, the cities of this world are awesome, tall buildings, high rates of development and of course,
the overpopulation and pollution. To combat this major issue in the modern world, we must put in a
standardised city 'template' that cities must follow so that they are able to cope with the inevitable

There are about 150,000 homes purchased in UK per year. The industry experiences the £1.5billion

of new entrants is important because of intrusion risks made by them on profitability of existing
company's market share. The construction industry of UK has been affected by the differentiation of
products, switching of costs, scale economies and government policies. The skill network report of
2006 to 2010 for construction companies in UK has stated that the output of the construction
companies in UK is about 3 percent per year. There are about 2.5 million employees who are
expected to join construction companies (www.constructionskills.net). Power of Suppliers The
active suppliers of UK and overseas contributions have made the market more competitive. The bid
system has been adopted in this industry which works independently. The main concern to these
suppliers is volume along with the amount of steel, wood and concrete. The large suppliers are not
found to be affected through volume and other leverage schemes. Bargaining Power of Buyers The

What Is The Recommendations Of Tornator
Recommendations
To take to account the factors that can affect the waterfront plot sales new improvements to the
marketing can be made. Tornator has a good product with unique features that other companies like
Metsähallitus do not have. Tornator has a very good product (waterfront plot) available with the
road connections, electricity junction and permission for construction. All these features are
advantages to Tornator's business, but even that the waterfront plots have these unique features, the
sales have decreased during the years. To increase the sales of the waterfront plots next propositions
are made:

For example the city of Joensuu has music festival called Ilosaarirock, which is one of the biggest
events that the city has. This could be one option to inform the citizen about their company and the
products that they sell.
To take account the fact that construction expenses have been slowly increasing during recent years,
the possible customers may have afforded to buy the waterfront plot, but not to start constructing a
building to it and because of this made the decision to not to buy. Because Tornator has already a
unique product available with the road connections, electricity junction and permission for
construction, they could upgrade it and make a contract with building contractor. The contract could
include for example, five different summer cottage options that the customer could choose from and
the building contractor would construct the summer cottage to the waterfront plot depending on the
customer's choice. This way the customer would not have to buy the construction or construct the
summer cottage by himself. Tornator is a big company and making a contract with a building

Disadvantages Of Leon Battista Alberti
Leon Battista Alberti was an Italian modeler, artist, linguist, priest, rationalist, renaissance humanist
polymath in the early 1400′s. He is celebrated for composing "De picture" a treastise on point of

on works of renowned Roman architect Vitruvius' Ten Books on Architecture.
However inquiries emerge in perusing Alberti: since ornamentation as a methodology is done on the
whole work, and decoration as a result of the procedure is a piece of the entire, how might he be
able to have considered adornment separate from the excellence of the entirety? On the off chance
that excellence is independent in that nothing can be included or taken away without disadvantage,

Fire Containment Is A Passive Protection Method
There are two main types of fire protection: active and passive. The differences between the two are
that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the
device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive
protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire
containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully
involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and
testing. Fire containment is most successful when complete testing has been done on the many
components of the building 's construction and materials. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Tests can be conducted under non–load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained
conditions. Non–load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the
neighboring compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in the
non–fire room. This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a path
for the fire to travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the unexposed side
to ignite. Unlike the non–load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to see how long the
structure will withstand before is collapses. A collapse not only creates a path for the fire to travel,
but it also affects the safety of anyone that would be inside. The test is conducted while the
assembly being tested is under a weighted load, and the test is concluded when the assembly begins
to collapse. This test is mainly used for wood. Steel and concrete are tested without weight because
they will arch when they near breaking point. When testing steel–framed floors, ceilings, and roof
assemblies, they are tested under both restrained and unrestrained conditions. The steel frame is
made to resist the forces of thermal expansion on the industrial steel. It is important to test under
restrained conditions, and this test is required for building parts that make up a structure capable of
resisting thermal expansion through the wide range of

Essay On Water Sector
Comment/Question/Response
– We in the water sector value the efforts exerted by the German Government and GIZ IDWS for the
assistance provided to the urban water sector, and the progress of the Damage Assessment Study
DAS III. We are realizing that the next challenging step is the translation of these investment
packages on the ground (physical and human investment). It is also a good news that GIZ IDWS
will sponsor and organize a workshop to gather all donors community and other stakeholders to
discuss the mechanisms of providing coordinated and streamlined interventions in the water sector.

Case Study On Slip House
Project Title: Slip House
Architect: Carl Turner (Of Carl Turner Architects)
Clients: Carl Turner and Mary Martin
Completion: 2012
Location: 51A, Lyham Road, Brixton, London, SW2 5DS, UK. The house can also be found
through its coordinates: 51.456711, –0.128318 .
The house was built in a traditional Victorian area in Brixton, but the building itself is far from a
classic Victorian design. Slip House gets its name as it is made up of three simple 'slipped'
orthogonal boxes. This building was chosen because it is recognised as one of the best designed
private houses of 2013, as well as being one of the most eco–friendly, sustainable homes in the UK
to date. Slip House has been the recipient of, and shortlisted for, a number of awards in both 2012
and 2013. What puts it ahead of its time is its mix of energy–efficient credentials, making a highly
desirable model for a family terrace home that is almost energy–bill free.

have expanded by beginning to construct a second building on a site beside Slip House which still
conforms to the sustainable ideas of the original. Also the firm are expanding from their comfort of
working with private buildings and are in discussions with housebuilders about plans to build a

A Study On Smoke Management System
1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke
ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium
where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire
will be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon
monoxide concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is
useful tool to analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used
tool in such type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the
field of smoke management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of
exhaust fans on the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on
smoke management system. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation, (CFI) has approved a
proposal by Carleton University for the development of a unique $10 million, full–scale fire
research facility. CFI's contribution to this project is $4.0 million. Other contributing partners
include the National Research Council, the Ottawa Fire Services and the Toronto Transit
Commission. Funding is also expected from the Ontario Innovation Trust. The facility will be used
to conduct research to identify fire safety levels in residential and commercial buildings, as well as
transportation facilities, such as tunnels.

Construction Of The Construction Project Essay
1.
Cost: when we are looking at the cost of the construction project we have to look through and have
to consider all the stages of the design and the construction project this is part of the specification. It
is very important to have the cost estimator involved right from the start of the project to ensure that
the project budget reflects the decisions made by the project construction team throughout the
integrated the design process.
2.
Quality standard and legislation: quality is the part of the contractor manager to ensure that products
and service comply with requirements. It is a work method that facilitates the measurement of the
quality characteristics of a unit, compares them with the established standards, the analyses the
differences between the results obtained and the desired results in order to make decisions which
will correct any differences. The legislation is the rules that are set on the construction project. Rules
apply to projects in parts to prevent clients from avoiding the requirements of the regulations by
simply dividing projects up.
3.
Health and safety issues: if you want to make sure everyone is safe on a construction site you have
to sensibly plan the work so the risks involved are managed from start to finish. You have to have
the right people for the job to make sure everyone is safe. Have the right information about the risks
and how they are being managed and lastly consult and engage with workers about the risks and

Application Of A Desktop Study
Desktop Study
A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first step
in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating background
information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk study a large
amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is near to the site,
the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a site there may be
unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached to neighbouring
lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we know we do have
on our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists together). Having this
knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning later as obstacles that
could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better efficiency.
The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site
which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological maps
can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for example,
subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden services, for
example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist, can also be

The Role Of A Superintendent Within A School District
Introduction Much of this clinical experience has been examining the specific role of a
superintendent within a school district. I found that the reflections as part of the weekly journal to of
particular interest and benefit as I examined he "Guiding Questions" for this final synthesis essay.
Interestingly, my colleagues in this course found these reflections not to be beneficial. During one of
our class meetings it was noted that these were not a beneficial exercise and that reflection was not
needed. To that, I would counter that reflection s always needed but it is often the easiest item to
overlook. In our hectic administrative world, it is easy to become buried in Administrivia. Often we
do not event take a moment to move from one crisis to the next. Reflection is the only way we can
halt the inexorable march to the end. I for one, was pleased that we were asked to reflect on each
week. I took this as an opportunity to examine the actions of the superintendent and, in a risk free
environment, provide my perspective on the positive or negative actions observed or experienced.
Hopefully the observations and judgments in those weekly journals remain an academic exercise
and not a communique to my superintendent. As I re–read the journal entries and focus them with
the lens of the guiding questions, I have some final thoughts about my qualifications and
idiosyncrasies that may come into play if ever I was afforded the honor of being a superintendent.

panes of glass, and the windows have security bars on the basement floor. The windows on the back

The more recent the transaction, the better indication I have to value the rent. The most recent
transaction of an office building similar to Aquis House was on 01/03/2014. Devonshire House on
Toronto Street is 0.1 miles away from Aquis House. Extensive refurbishment took place in 2009 to

The asking rent for Devonshire House is £20.00 per sq ft. The next useful comparable to help value
Aquis House is Park Row House which again is of very close proximity being at 0.02 miles away

Compare And Contrast Earthquake And Chile Earthquake
The Chile and the Haiti Earthquakes of 2010 had different effects on the health sector. Various
differences are evident in the health outcomes of these disasters. In the Chilean earthquake, the
magnitude of the quake reached a scale of 8.8 while that of Haiti reached a scale of 7.0. However,
the number of deaths that were experienced in Haiti was a number almost 200,000 while in Chile it
was only 200 people (Huus, 2010). Despite the high magnitude of the quake, Chile experienced a
low number of lost lives. The major reason for the difference in the number of casualties are the
differences in the building codes. The building codes provide rules that specify the standards of
construction of buildings. In Haiti, there are no building codes, hence ... Show more content on

Most of the people succumbed to diseases that arose from the sanitation, infections, and other health
related issues that occurred after the disaster. This is because they lacked their own mechanisms of
combating infections, sanitation issues, and post disaster mental issues (Huus, 2010). They also
lacked response plans for a disaster of a higher magnitude. For example, there was no disaster
management system that showed the various protocols of managing a large–scale disaster.
Therefore, health issues such as sanitation, comfort, and management of communicable diseases
was a major problem (Farmer et al 2011). Other factors responsible for this problem is the high level
of poverty, lack of infrastructure, and the large population. In Chile, there were established
mechanisms of managing the disaster. There were health interventions that were available, including
rescue teams, preventive techniques, sanitation and other disease management protocol. For
example, organisations such as AmeriCares delivered about $730,000 in medical aid that included
2,000 hygiene kits. This enabled the effective management of the health concerns, hence

Examples Of Building Rapport And Empathy Through Communication Skills

  • 1. Examples Of Rapport And Empathy Angelica Lai – Discussion #2: Empathy and Rapport Building rapport and empathy with clients is extremely important no matter what the job is. As mentioned throughout this module, empathy and rapport fuel the relationship between people. My previous work experience includes working at a movie theatre and hospital security. Both jobs required rapport and empathy as these jobs required serving the public. However, even though the jobs itself were different, both had the same underlying task, which is working with people. Working at the movie theatre, it is directed to more of a customer service job, where often the guests get upset over issues we as the employee do not understand. I found once you put their issues in front of your own personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found if I focus on the interpersonal aspect of the relationship, I can build and maintain positive working relationships. However, this is not the only skills that are important. It is important to showcase characteristics, or attributes like trust, respect, humour, and integrity. After reading the content in Module 2, I have seen skills I use, but also new skills I am going to incorporate. One suggestions I am going to incorporate is the acronym E.M.P.A.T.H.Y. from the Ted Talk by Helen Riess (2013). The reason being that, this is an easy acronym to remember and apply when building both rapport and empathy. I will need to practice this for a while, but as soon as I get it right, it will be an easy guideline to help build that connection with others. Another skill, which was explained in this module was the power of powerless communication from the Ted Talk by Adam Grant (2013). In a security position it is often explained to talk with assertiveness, but sometimes this backfires as the client becomes more aggressive. By applying the concepts of tentative talking, it may help build that rapport and empathy as it shows a more humanistic side. I think it is important that we show our humanistic side, as many individuals just see the uniform and not the person wearing it. By applying these skills, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Wood Framing Research Paper Wood individuals are sliced and joined to make floors, dividers and the top of a structure as per the arrangement of construction archives and local building codes. Since the 1830s, two strategies for wood framing have been utilized to encourage building a structure: balloon framing and platform framing. Balloon framing was genuinely well known on the east drift and parts of the Midwest previously. Today it isn't for the most part permitted by current building codes. Be that as it may, it regards know about the technique if it is experienced in the field. In this kind of framing the wall stud lays on the sill plate with a rim joist in the interior side and after that the floor joist. The stud wall is persistent from the sill plate to the best plate. At the second level the floor association, joists lay on a ledger and are then face nailed to the studs. Platform is the most widely recognized type of wood ... The finalization of the schedule for a particular project will fluctuate in light of numerous elements including, yet not restricted to, size and level of trouble of the structure, site and climate conditions, material and contractual worker accessibility, team sizes, powerful planning and correspondence, the learning and experience of those dealing with the project, and maybe most essentially, the number, convenience, and many–sided quality of the progressions unavoidably made to the first contract after construction has started. Floor, wall, rooftop and stair congregations are each comprised of particular dimensional wood segments (said to be like a skeleton.) These segments are affixed together to shape the structure as well as enable the interior spaces to properly work as they are needed to. • 9. The Celsus Ephesus Library In the modern day Turkey, wide road of Marble slopes down to Celsus Ephesus Library, one of the ancient world libraries. In Ephesus, the library is one of the most beautiful structures. Construction of the building took place between 117AD and 135AD (Laale, 76). Vitruoya, a Roman architect designed the structure. The library was to memorize Celsus Polemeanus, a Roman senator, province of Asia General Governor. It was Julius Aquila–Celsus' son initiative. Specifically Celsus loved books. The design of the library takes the form of Roman architecture (Francis, Jarzombek, & Prakash, 65). Celsus grave was under the ground floor inside a tomb of marble and in a lead container. The grave was across the entrance and over it was the Athena statue. This is because Athena was wisdom goddess. A significant element about the building is the storage of manuscript scrolls. They manuscripts scrolls were put in cupboards in the walls niches. Behind bookcase were double walls to prevent the scrolls from extreme humidity and temperature. The library had a capacity of over 12000 scrolls (Foss, 78). The other main reason for the library was as a monument for Celsus. According to Foss, (119) Celsus library was the third wealthiest library in the ancient period after Pergamum and Alexandra. The structure was made of perfect marble and bedecked with figures of Nike, garlands in relief, Eros and rosettes (Laale, 98). The building shows the attributes of Emperor Hadrian age. Perpustakaan Negara and Pusat Sains Negara Other than that, both the National Library, 'Perpustakaan Negara', and The National Science Centre, 'Pusat Sains Negara', have the same purposes in which to allow the public gain knowledges from their visits. The National Library building design was influenced by the concept of a traditional Malay men head gear called 'tengkolok songket' which can be seen exteriorly. Most of the public building as mentioned above used a 'traditional' approach in it's design concept. This indicated that part of the traditional influences is still being use locally in the progress of forming the urban characteristic of Kuala Lumpur. Other than all the mentioned buildings in previous pages, the other major components in contributing urbanism in Malaysia is the old local shophouses which also had been the source of economic growth and helps in the local urban development around 1970s. In 20th century, three storey shophouses were built in Kuala Lumpur and had been quite popular in comparison to other single and double storey shophouses in other places due to the high demand of land values and urban progression to accommodate increasing capacity, also to provides enough neccessities and needs of the town people back at that time. Although the storey height of the shophouses is increasing, the plot arrangement and layout remains the same along the existing street following the traditional method of linkages. • 13. The Effect Of Outrigger Truss On Composite High Rise... Study on Effectiveness of Outrigger Truss in Composite High–Rise Buildings by Simplified Method Ei Ei Khine – Ph.D Candidate, Department of Civil Engineering, Yangon Technological University, Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar eekmayday83@gmail.com Abstract–The design of tall and slender structures is controlled by three governing factors, strength (material capacity), stiffness (drift) and serviceability (motion perception and accelerations), produced by the action of lateral loading, such as wind and earthquake. Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling the serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on effectiveness of outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal buildings that can be minimized the deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50 storey square shape buildings respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings without using outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Therefore, for the proposed buildings to get minimum deflection, the outrigger is more effective than simplified method. Keywords– Stiffness; serviceability; Deflection; Simplified Method; Outrigger Truss Introduction: The fundamental design criteria for high–rise building are strength, serviceability and stability whereas human comfort should also be included ... This allows growth for children, youth and families to develop in the right setting and gain strength and resilience. Everyone has a different story and having programs that are specific to one group of people that share something in common gives those in the program the opportunity to develop. The Military Family Resource Centre is a prime example of a program that uses the strength–based approach to help clients where they are in life. Military children, youth and families are uniquely different and programming for them need to be sensitive. The Military Family Resource Centre's across Canada create an open and safe place for children, youth, and families, advocates for their needs, in a diverse and unique way. The Factor 4 follows a set of guidelines for comparing design options and for evaluating the performance of buildings and their component systems. Factor 4 suggests that for humanity to live sustainably today, we must rapidly reduce resource consumption to one–quarter of its current levels. Fortunately, the technology to accomplish Factor 4 reductions in resource consumption already exists and requires only public policy prioritization and implementation. 2) Factor 10: Energy use by buildings would be reduced by a Factor 10 or more below that of conventional buildings. The extraction of resources such as fossil fuels and metal ores from the planet's crust produces carcinogens and results in heavy metals entering the earth's surface biosphere 8) Eco– efficiency: The concept of eco–efficiency includes environmental impacts and costs as a factor in calculating business efficiency. San Francisco: Jossey– Bass Fullan has previously written on the topics of moral purpose, understanding change, relationships, knowledge use and coherence in organsisations. In The Six Secrets of Change Fullan addresses the question of social change in organisational leadership, or more pertinently the question of "What do we know about successful organisational change under complex conditions?" Fullan exemplifies organisational behaviours in which implementation has been successful and where attempts have failed. He provides examples of how effective and long lasting changes, which will ultimately improve culture and efficiency, have been manifested in private and public businesses and schools throughout the world. Michael Fullan, OC, is the former Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. Fullan is recognized as a worldwide authority on educational reform. He advises policymakers and leaders around the world in helping to achieve the moral purpose of all children learning. The Six Secrets of Change draws on Fullan's research from educational organisations as well as private businesses. Fullan makes it clear that he believes that a good theory should be applicable across both private and public organisations and must be in context. There is an issue of how capacity should be measured. Students should quickly recognize that an overall measure of capacity for the facility isn't much help in determining if Fitness Plus is capacity constrained. If the service delivery process for each member were homogeneous, such as a cafeteria or airline flight, then an overall measure of capacity, such as the number of members serviced over a given period of time, would be an appropriate measure of capacity. However, the service delivery process at Fitness Plus is a menu–driven process where each member chooses from a range of services the club ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these issues in mind, the students can develop capacity estimates similar to the following: 1. Aerobics * Assumption: Aerobics classes begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes. * Capacity: 1 class per hour for 35 members 2. Cardiovascular * Assumption: During peak demand times, each piece of equipment is limited to 30 minutes per member. * Capacity: With 29 pieces of C–V equipment, 58 members per hour peak capacity 3. Nautilus * Assumptions: Each member takes 1 minute to complete each exercise. The machines are set up so members flow through in a sequential manner. * Capacity: Maximum capacity at a steady state; cycle time 1 minute. 60 members per hour Over the three–hour peak demand period, the Nautilus area may only process 156 members because it will take 24 minutes for the first member to complete the entire 24–machine cycle. • 28. Swot Analysis Of Grandma's Strengths And Weaknesses STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES Strengths Grandma's Best has many strengths, one of which is supplier diversity. This diversity provides multiple procurement channels for goods and services. Obtaining a large catalog of suppliers create scenarios that involve multiple suppliers that compete for Grandma's business. In doing this Grandma's reduces the overall cost of the product/service. This drives competition between suppliers, which increases the bottom dollar for the company and ensures that Grandma's is not over reliant on any one supplier. The relationship that the company has with the brokers is a key asset, these brokers have the capability of being able to expand on the existing channels of distribution. The fact that Grandma's Best is financially stable is another positive for the firm. The company's financial performance and profitability are solid, as production capabilities have expanded with increased sales creating positive net income. There was an increase in net income of 112.8% from the previous year, an indication of good financial profitability. Although Grandma's Best owns a very low market share (.05%), it has seen great compound annual growth for the past three years of 4.62%, which is better than the average United States confectionery market. Weaknesses There are a few weaknesses we identified: no vision or mission statement, underutilized website, lack of capacity and lack of technology and information systems. According to Ceil Wloczewski of Cella Consulting, "mission, vision and values statements are crucial to communicating the who, what and why for your organization to corporate management, team members and to the users of your services. TITLE OF THE DOCUMENT IDENTIFY THE MAIN FACTORS WHICH DETERMINE THE DEMAND FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BUILT FACILITIES AND OUTLINE HOW THESE FACTORS HAVE OPERATED ON THIS DEMAND IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. The determination of demand of goods and services produced the construction industry is a complicated process. CONSTRUCTION PRICE The relationship between the price and the commodity price is a recurring theme in the economic literature. McConnell et al (2009) shows that the price levels of a commodity are dependent on the demand of that particular commodity. The construction industry also follows the same model; the construction price levels are dependent on the demand for construction. It is also suggested that a fluctuating demand for construction leads to fluctuating prices and vice versa suggesting that the demand for construction may depend on the relative price of construction. A common measure of trends in price in the construction industry is the tender price index, which measures the treads in the cost of construction to construction clients and reflects the trend in the accepted tender prices. Therefore we can say that the construction price of built facilities determine the demand of the built facilities, because when the price goes down the demand goes up. I will be studying and evaluating a building design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure, identifying, why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes. This will allow me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design. 1.1 Design philosophy and aesthetics The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates' and built by main contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates' were trying to create a sustainable postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a landmark in the centre of the city. Developing a school culture that is engaging and inclusive will require a focus on building the collective leadership capacity of the student council and school staff. The concern is that our school has a narrow focus on how we support students. There needs to be an inclusive culture so that our school does not "become fragmented silos" (Deal & Peterson, 2009, p. 163). To avoid this from happening the first step will be to engage others to make a cultural shift that is inclusive of all students at St. Mary. Foundational to changing culture is the need to build relationships and establish trust. Bryk and Schneider (2003) describe trust as "respectful exchanges [that] are marked by genuinely listening to what each person has to say and by taking these views into account in subsequent action" (p. 42). I intend to do this with students by giving them the opportunity to share their ideas and then advise them on how they can develop these ideas into school activities. Building Organizational Capacity For Change Introduction Organization capacity for change as discussed in William Judge's book, Building Organizational Capacity for Change, includes eight dimensions trustworthy leaders, trusting followers, capable champions, involved middle management, systems thinking, communication system, accountable culture, and innovative culture (Judge, 2011). Recognizing the need for change and initiating change are two different elements, knowing that a change needs to happen but not having the organizational capacity to make the change will stall any initiative in its tracks. A leader influences whether or not an organization has the capacity for change, and as discussed by Judge, (2011) one of the most important influences is being a trustworthy leader. A leader also needs to recognize when a change is needed and be ready to initiate that change. Monitoring and Responding to the Drivers of Change Drivers of change include, to name a few, technology trends, state of the economy, globalization, and customer expectations. These drivers are going to look and feel different across industries and will be dependent on other drivers such as competition and industry trends. The differences between the two are that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and testing. Tests can be conducted under non–load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained conditions. Non–load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the neighboring compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in the non–fire room. This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a path for the fire to travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the unexposed side to ignite. Unlike the non–load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to see how long the structure will withstand before is collapses. • 61. A Study On Smoke Management System 1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon monoxide concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is useful tool to analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used tool in such type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the field of smoke management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of exhaust fans on the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on smoke management system. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation, (CFI) has approved a proposal by Carleton University for the development of a unique $10 million, full–scale fire research facility. CFI's contribution to this project is $4.0 million. Other contributing partners include the National Research Council, the Ottawa Fire Services and the Toronto Transit Commission. Funding is also expected from the Ontario Innovation Trust. The facility will be used to conduct research to identify fire safety levels in residential and commercial buildings, as well as transportation facilities, such as tunnels. ... • 63. Construction Of The Construction Project Essay 1. Cost: when we are looking at the cost of the construction project we have to look through and have to consider all the stages of the design and the construction project this is part of the specification. It is very important to have the cost estimator involved right from the start of the project to ensure that the project budget reflects the decisions made by the project construction team throughout the integrated the design process. 2. Quality standard and legislation: quality is the part of the contractor manager to ensure that products and service comply with requirements. It is a work method that facilitates the measurement of the quality characteristics of a unit, compares them with the established standards, the analyses the differences between the results obtained and the desired results in order to make decisions which will correct any differences. The legislation is the rules that are set on the construction project. Rules apply to projects in parts to prevent clients from avoiding the requirements of the regulations by simply dividing projects up. 3. Health and safety issues: if you want to make sure everyone is safe on a construction site you have to sensibly plan the work so the risks involved are managed from start to finish. You have to have the right people for the job to make sure everyone is safe. Have the right information about the risks and how they are being managed and lastly consult and engage with workers about the risks and how they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Application Of A Desktop Study Desktop Study A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first step in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating background information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk study a large amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is near to the site, the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a site there may be unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached to neighbouring lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we know we do have on our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists together). Having this knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning later as obstacles that could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better efficiency. The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological maps can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for example, subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden services, for example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist, can also be found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Role Of A Superintendent Within A School District Introduction Much of this clinical experience has been examining the specific role of a superintendent within a school district. I found that the reflections as part of the weekly journal to of particular interest and benefit as I examined he "Guiding Questions" for this final synthesis essay. Interestingly, my colleagues in this course found these reflections not to be beneficial. During one of our class meetings it was noted that these were not a beneficial exercise and that reflection was not needed. To that, I would counter that reflection s always needed but it is often the easiest item to overlook. In our hectic administrative world, it is easy to become buried in Administrivia. Often we do not event take a moment to move from one crisis to the next. Reflection is the only way we can halt the inexorable march to the end. I for one, was pleased that we were asked to reflect on each week. I took this as an opportunity to examine the actions of the superintendent and, in a risk free environment, provide my perspective on the positive or negative actions observed or experienced. Hopefully the observations and judgments in those weekly journals remain an academic exercise and not a communique to my superintendent. As I re–read the journal entries and focus them with the lens of the guiding questions, I have some final thoughts about my qualifications and idiosyncrasies that may come into play if ever I was afforded the honor of being a superintendent. • 69. Duffer's Wood Golf Club House Case Study To develop a pre–fire plan for the Duffer's Wood Golf Clubhouse, one way to implement a plan would be to adopt a spreadsheet with different sections. Being one of the initial officers to arrive at the Clubhouse, first thing I would like to see on the plan would be a contact person and phone number, especially if the emergency occurs after hours. Secondly, the plan should include building information such as the location of the lock box, fire panel, total square feet measurement, number of floors, basement, construction type, roof type and number of exits available. Does the facility provide the accessibility to an elevator? If so, the plan should illustrate the area of the main elevator control panel. We would need to include the ... The building was built in 1931, by Rousch & Belz Contractors, and designed by Frederic J. DeLongchamps to serve as the Sparks branch of the Washoe County Library. The building served as the first public library in area and is located at 814 Victorian Ave, Sparks, NV (all PDF). The building was placed on the Nation Register of Historic Places in 1984 (Website) and displays influences from the Mediterranean Revival style of architecture, being one of two buildings in Sparks (the other being the Immaculate Conception Church) created in that style (PDF). The windows on the front and sides of the building differ from those in back. The similarities among all of the windows is that they feature glass panes separated by muntins, have sills, and are without lintels. The windows on the front side of the building have a hinged lower section, feature twelve panes of glass, and the windows have security bars on the basement floor. The windows on the back are slim, with fourteen panes of glass each. Characteristics that the building share with the Mediterranean revival style are its semicircular arched entry, red tiled roof, wrought iron balustrades on its twinned, L–shaped staircases that lead to the first floor, and small paned windows.(PDF) The building features a central, gabled pavilion and the roman arching that frames the double–door main entrance features a protruding keystone, and is flanked on both sides by original light fixtures(PDF). Above the front entrance to the first floor of the building is a half–circle window with five panes of clear glass framed in wood. Two unique stones can be found on the building; one on the northeast corner noting the building as the "Sparks Branch Washoe County Library", and the other on the southeastern corner baring the image of a Freemason square and compass. While much of the building's exterior is original, there are some changes that have occurred both inside and outside of over time. The door for the front entrance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The more recent the transaction, the better indication I have to value the rent. The most recent transaction of an office building similar to Aquis House was on 01/03/2014. Devonshire House on Toronto Street is 0.1 miles away from Aquis House. Extensive refurbishment took place in 2009 to create an imposing modern building. Both buildings are situated in the prime city Centre location. The asking rent for Devonshire House is £20.00 per sq ft. • 75. Compare And Contrast Earthquake And Chile Earthquake The Chile and the Haiti Earthquakes of 2010 had different effects on the health sector. Various differences are evident in the health outcomes of these disasters. In the Chilean earthquake, the magnitude of the quake reached a scale of 8.8 while that of Haiti reached a scale of 7.0. However, the number of deaths that were experienced in Haiti was a number almost 200,000 while in Chile it was only 200 people (Huus, 2010). Despite the high magnitude of the quake, Chile experienced a low number of lost lives. The major reason for the difference in the number of casualties are the differences in the building codes. The building codes provide rules that specify the standards of construction of buildings. In Haiti, there are no building codes, hence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the people succumbed to diseases that arose from the sanitation, infections, and other health related issues that occurred after the disaster. This is because they lacked their own mechanisms of combating infections, sanitation issues, and post disaster mental issues (Huus, 2010). They also lacked response plans for a disaster of a higher magnitude. For example, there was no disaster management system that showed the various protocols of managing a large–scale disaster. Therefore, health issues such as sanitation, comfort, and management of communicable diseases was a major problem (Farmer et al 2011). Other factors responsible for this problem is the high level of poverty, lack of infrastructure, and the large population. In Chile, there were established mechanisms of managing the disaster. There were health interventions that were available, including rescue teams, preventive techniques, sanitation and other disease management protocol. For example, organisations such as AmeriCares delivered about $730,000 in medical aid that included 2,000 hygiene kits. This enabled the effective management of the health concerns, hence management of comorbidity from the disaster itself (Candia, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
