2. Introduction
• Around 30 percent of New Zealand's land area is
protected conservation land. There are about 13 national
parks in New Zealand, three maritime parks, two world
heritage areas, hundreds of nature reserves and
ecological areas, a network of marine reserves and
wetlands, and protection for special rivers and lakes.
• Today we are covering the 6 biggest parks and also
some Zoos.
3. North Island National Parks
• Te Urewera (2127 km²)
• Tongariro (796 km²)
• Whanganui (2372 km²)
• Egmont (335 km²)
5. Zoos
• Auckland Zoo - The biggest zoo in New Zealand
• with 750+ animals and over 120 species.
• The zoo helps educate school children about their own
environment and the animal kingdom in general at the
Discovery and Learning Centre.
• Hamilton Zoo - This zoo has about 400 animals and
over 90 species. The zoo has faced bankruptcy many
times but they have made it through.
6. New Zealand economy
• New Zealand has a market economy that depends
greatly on international trade, mainly with Australia, the
European Union, the United States, China, South Korea
and Japan.
• New Zealand’s world ranking as a country is 53.
