Running, catching, and hitting are some types of actions used in the game of baseball. Yes, the
baseball season has started in early April Miguel, you had a great game today. In October of 2015,

you guys rebound, and make it to the World Series next year. Sincerely, Thomas Peters 17. Instead

usually look at their batting average difference between right–handed and left–handed pitchers.
Fastballs, curveballs, and changeups are the the most common pitches thrown; but now many
pitchers start to throw more sliders and breaking balls. Many fans want to go to baseball games;
however, the prices of tickets have dramatically gone up over the past years. Some well known

The Role Of Joey Votto In Major League Baseball
The youth that dominates the Cincinnati Reds roster may have been like a booster shot to Joey
Votto's intensity and competitive edge.
"Last year I felt like I was on the border of being burned out," Votto said. "I didn't feel like that this
off season.
Joey Votto started his first spring game against the Cleveland Indians Saturday. The hour glass is full
again.
Votto is now in his 10th full season in the Major Leagues and has literally been through the team's
ups and downs
Cincinnati was in it's seventh straight losing season when Votto was called up in September 2007.
The team broke into the black with a winning season in 2010, surprising many by winning the
National League Central Division in 2010.

He doesn't necessarily want to be known as a leader, although he will lead in his quiet way.
"I have guys treat me with deference which is uncomfortable," Votto said. "I've had guys take it the
other way. I just want to fit in."
Votto continues to be one of the best bats in Major League baseball. He .314 in 2015 with 29 home
runs and 80 RBI. Votto hit.326 last season despite starting slowly. He was hitting .215 on June 1.
The last 104 games Votto hit .378 and nearly became the first player since 2010 to hit over .400 in
consecutive months, .419 in July and .394 in August/ He finished with 29 home runs for the second
straight season.
The 33–year old has had his slow starts and fast starts. In 2012 Votto was on pace to shatter the
Reds' record for doubles with 75. Earl Webb holds the Major League record with 67 in 1931. Pete
Rose 1978 and Frank Robinson 1962 hold the Reds' record with 51. On June 29, the day Votto
injured his knee sliding into third base in San Francisco, he was hitting .342 with 36 doubles, 14
home runs and 49 RBI.

Mass Media And Its Effects On Children
Mass media is part of the average persons everyday life, from morning to night; modern society
absorbs and consumes it constantly. Adults are aware of it and see the media, as advertisements on
television, the latest blockbuster at the theaters or the trendy new clothing. Children are not free
from it either; they to are exposed to the medias imagery and ideals maybe more than adults are.
Parents may not pay close attention to the media their children are exposed to; adults may think they
are just harmless children's toys or games. From the time they wake up and they pour themselves a
bowl of brand name cereal, to the time they are put in bed with their stuff animal or toy, they are in
the presence of some sort of media and its imagery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents might think that the idea of their 5–year–old girl dieting as too farfetched, but that same thin
ideal is already being pushed on them. In fact, children who watch hours of television a day are
exposed to dieting, and may see it as a part of growing up. "Heavier–viewing children may
glamorize dieting and view it as a way of 'playing grown–up' before they begin to diet with the
intention of meeting an internalized body ideal." (Harrison et al) Children are very receptive to these
images, they may see dieting as just a grown up thing now, but later on may see it as a necessary
part of growing up. If children can catch on to things like that, then they can certainty catch on to
things like the thin ideal. An experiment was done where preschool aged girls were given a choice
between playing with three different game pieces, a fat one, a normal one, and a thin game piece;
this was what the researchers discovered. "Preschool girls between the ages of 3 and 5 attribute
more negative adjectives to fat targets and more positive adjectives to thin targets. In addition,
preschool girls were less likely to select a fat target as their playmate or best friend and more likely
to select a thin target as

Baseball Games Should Not Be Banned
Imagine the year is 1998, and baseball player Mark McGwire is stronger and more aggressive than
ever. The fans are in shock because the crowd is familiar with baseball games being on the dull side,
but this baseball game has the fans at the edge of the seat. Now imagine every Oakland Athletics
game having this powerful energy, home run after home run, fast running, and the loud crowd
cheering for the home team. The score is tied and the baseball game is in the last inning. The crowd
begins to scream and sweat nervously, with only a few seconds left. The players are running all over
the court as fast as ever before, and the sound of the ball being hit against the bat is so loud the
crowd can hear the sound from the nosebleeds. McGwire swings and hits a homerun and the
Oakland Athletics win. But come to find out Mark McGwire, who hit the winning homerun had
Performance–Enhancing Drugs in his system. The other team is infuriated when knowing the truth
behind all of the fast balls and home runs which were hit, and knowing the team was cheated and
had a chance to win. The Oakland Athletics were ashamed to hear the news from the fellow team
mate. Unfortunately due to the professional athlete's well performance, McGwire influenced other
baseball players to begin using the drug.

Minding the store

There are nine specific ways to foster empowerment. Ken Hoffman didn't follow these rules and
thus failed to produce a sense of competence choice, impact value and security. The first rule that
Ken Hoffman violated was articulating a clear vision and goals.
When Ruth Cummings was made the branch manager, she was told to make the store one of the best

contribute as an individual.
The second blunder caused by Mr. Hoffman was not fostering personal mastery experiences. By

The Chicago Cubs are an American professional baseball franchise located on the north side of
Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's National
League.
The club played its first games in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings, before officially becoming
the Chicago Cubs for the 1903 season. The Cubs are the oldest currently active U.S. professional
sports club, continuously existing in the same city for their entire history. They are one of the two
remaining charter members of the National League (the other being the Atlanta Braves). Since
Chicago did not have a fully operating White Stockings team for two seasons due to the Great

Essay On Mike Trout
Mike Trout, Mike Trout is the best current player in the MLB right now. He is a dominate hitter,
fielder and a great teammate. Mike Trout is a 6'2, 235lb player from Vineland New Jersey. He is in
the top five in the league for all statistics except for strikeouts, not including the players that had one
ten at bats because then they can have crazy stats. Some categories he is number 1 is he scored the
most runs and walks. Mike Trout is the best player in the MLB. Mike trout has a better than .300
batting average. This is a main key to becoming a great baseball player. One thing good baseball
players have is constancy; you need consistency to keep a better than .300 batting average. Mike
Trout has a very similar batting average to the great Barry Bonds, Barry Bonds batted just under
.300 and Mike Trout bats .306, Barry bonds is considered to be one of the greatest hitters of all time.
This shows that Mike Trout can be compared to many players in the hall of fame, such as Jackie
Robinson, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Pete Rose and many more. Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb
had better batting averages then him but not by much, though he has a better batting average than
Pete Rose. Jackie Robinson batted .311, Babe Ruth batted around the mid .300's, and Ty cobb batted

batting statistics and be a good fielder. Mike Trout has both of those making him a start player
winning MVPs. Mike Trout won two straight all–star game MVPs, an all–star game is the best
players from each division play against each other. Their for he is playing ageist and with the best

Body Vs. Barbie
Body vs. Barbie
Barbie dolls are made to be small, skinny, fashionable, and kid friendly. However, that friendly doll
can have so much negativity involved with it. Young girls have to play with a doll that may have a
smaller waist, smaller stomach, smaller legs, and smaller thighs. Young girls have to look at a
Barbie doll that has an unhealthy and unrealistic body. Playing with a toy that is unrealistic makes a
girl want to have a smaller figure. Barbie makes young girls feel dissatisfied with their body and
appearance. Toys such as Barbie dolls can affect a child's perception of body image.
A Barbie doll that is skinny and has an unrealistic figure does not help with young girls feeling
dissatisfied with their body. The doll with only cause for the young girls to wonder why they can't

Barbie Dolls Have Changed
How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader contexts.
In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the 'Barbie Doll' which is a toy for
children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900's to the present generation and
how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have
inserted 2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent.

Piaget has created the theory of learning through play. He says children engage themselves In
imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate
them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them
to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves
and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act
like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the
child's head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst
children grow older they have certain changes in them

Summary Of Margaret Mead's Coming Of Age In Samoa
Margaret Mead was first to major in psychology at Bernard but later went on to Colombia and
received a doctorate studying with Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. To her Anthropology was a big
commitment to learn and study new human behaviors. In her book Coming Of Age In Samoa she
argued the children now a days in a modern society are forced to fit education in their lives rather
than "inflexible education mould". Her main goal was to study the lives and behavior changes from
a new born to a young adult. Although she could have done her research in Modern society she
wanted to get a different aspect of behaviors on minds that where not corrupted. Her research was
aiming towards a different type of culture, a culture that education was not the focus but more based
on home standards and values. In her book Coming of Age In Samoa she describes the social facts
and gives a thick description based on research done on "simple people", theories that made her
book a best seller.
In Meads intro to the book she explains the research they are trying to conduct and how it cannot be
done in a modern world country. She explains they have no control over to what the child has been
exposed to that every research they would conduct would result in a different outcome. To solve this
dilemma, she decided to target her studies to "simple people, primitive peoples, whose society has
never attained the complexity of our own." (pg. 7 paragraph 2). Therefore in 1925 Margaret Mead
went out on her first

Ruth
The book of Ruth is a book about sacrifice, faith, patience, love, kindness, restoration, and
fruitfulness. The basic literary is narrative and the authorship is believed to be Samuel written
between 1020 – 1000 BC. The main personalities of this book are Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. The
Book of Ruth is about how a man named Elimelech takes his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon
and Chilion from living in a town known as "the house of bread" in Bethlehem to the land of Moab
on his own will to escape death. Here the two sons married unequally yoked Moab women by the
names of Orpah and Ruth. All within a decade Naomi loses her husband and two sons to death. One
day Naomi hears that God's favor has returned to Bethlehem and that food is available so Naomi
decides to return. Not too far into the journey back to Bethlehem, accompanied by Orpah and Ruth,
Naomi tells Orpah and Ruth to return to Moab but Ruth decides to continue with Naomi and follow
God. Upon their arrival, the whole town was in a frenzy at the return of Naomi. When confronted
about her identity she told them to call her Mara, which means bitter, and no longer Naomi which
means pleasant. Ruth and Naomi returned at the beginning of the barley harvest and the next day
Ruth took it upon herself to go to the field collect food. While out on the field a man by the name of

Ruth Fulton Benedict Essay
Considered a pioneer in her time, Ruth Fulton Benedict was an American anthropologist who helped
to popularize anthropology while introducing such terms as culture and racism into common place
language. As an advocate against discriminatory attitudes, Benedict advocated for tolerance and
individuality within social norms and expectations and sought to determine that each culture has its
own moral imperatives. Considered her most famous written work, Patterns of Culture, Benedict
explores the differences between rituals, beliefs, and personal preferences and how within that
culture, personality within the individual exists. While Benedict advocated for tolerance within

Perhaps the isolation that Benedict experienced as a young girl can be considered a stepping stone to
the future. Using a pen name of Anne Singleton, Benedict wrote poetry and graduated from high
school at St. Margaret's Academy. Continuing to have aspirations of personal success, Benedict
enrolled at Vassar College where she majored in English and later became a teacher after moving to
Los Angeles with her sister. Benedict was yearning for something and yet at this time could not find
what was beckoning to emerge when she married and returned to New York City. It was during this
time, that Benedict experienced her internal conflicts and began to seek fulfillment. Coupled with a
desire for personal growth and seeking refuge from an empty and childless marriage she began
pursuing her education. This conflict was seen in Benedict's candor in her mid to late thirties as she
pursued graduate work. As written in personal journals, Benedict says, "I gambled on having the
strength to live two lives, one for myself and one for the world" (Mead, p.3).
Unsatisfied with her life, Benedict married a biochemist named Stanley Benedict in 1914 hoping to
find meaning. Benedict and her husband were unable to have children which caused strain in the
marriage during an era where women were valued as homemakers and mothers. Benedict yearned
for something more in her life, and it was then that she discovered

We were making our way to the doors slowly. While killing every walker in sight and range, we
fought our way through the horrendous herd of walkers. Guts, flesh, and meat went flying out to
every direction with every swing of the baseball bats that we had. I fancied a long pipe with scissor

career because later that spring, the Braves' left fielder broke his ankle. This opened a spot on the
team. The next day, Aaron started in his place and got three hits, including a line–drive homerun.
Because of his success, the manager offered Aaron a contract to play for the Braves. By the end of
the 1973 season, he had 713 career homeruns, one less than the all–time record. During the off–
season, Aaron received a lot of hate mail and death threats, mostly from people who did not want to
see a black man break Babe Ruth's record. Aaron was quoted as saying, "As the hate mail piled up, I
became more and more intent on breaking the record and shoving it into the ugly faces of those
bigots" (Aaron). "On the night of April 8, 1974, at 9:07 PM, Henry Aaron hit a fastball off of Al
Downing that flew over the left field fence for homerun number 715" (Aaron). Aaron ended his
career with 755 homeruns. He also played in 3298 games, batted 12,364 times,

Franz Boas : Cultural Anthropology Essay
Born and brought up Jewish in Germany during a very antisemitic time, Franz Boas was a
successful student, earning his doctorate at a fairly young age and holding an academic position in
Berlin. However, in 1886 Boas found himself in New York after having participated in several
ethnographic studies in Canada. He decided to remain in New York for several reasons, the main
one being that it kept him close to the North American Indians and Inuit who were the peoples most
fascinating to him. In 1899 he became a professor of Anthropology at Columbia university and went
on to teach and mentor some of the most important people in Anthropology today. Boaz received
much of his schooling from scholars in Germany, who like many others, were skeptical of
evolutionism. Boaz became convinced that the task of an anthropologist wasn 't simply to study
peoples and their culture but to also carefully and systematically collect detailed data and material
on these particular cultures and only then would one be able to be cognizant of them. In the USA,
this became known as cultural anthropology. It consisted of everything humans have created from
society, symbolism, to materialism. It quite literally encompassed everything human and because of
this reason Boas, advocated for subfields to be created in Anthropology. These fields became known
as linguistics, cultural anthropology, physical or biological anthropology, and archaeology. Students
were then trained in a specific field rather then the

Reflection Paper
During the fall term, I read sections of the Bible for the very first time. At the beginning of my
reading, I only found it as an annoyance as I am not a religious person. However, during my time of
reading for class I found myself obtaining advice from certain phrases that I held in my mind from
our readings assignments. The readings during class covered stories from the world that God created
to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which lead to the making of Christianity. Within that
time, the numerous amount of people that wrote the vital text in the Bible did not only include key
events such as the rule of kings and wars in which historians have been able to confirm and thereby
being able to confirm or alter the timeline within the bible; but also religious messages to benefit the
soul of those reading. The verses of Genesis 2:9, Numbers 12:3, Ruth 2:19, Luke 6:31, and Kings
3:9 were the highlight verses of advice in our reading for myself and hopefully many others in the
world.
The first quote that stuck out to me was in the book of Genesis, "The LORD God made all kinds of
trees grow out of the ground–trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of
the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." (Genesis 2:9). This
is on the third day of creation, the day that God created the land and the sea of Earth. During this
time of crafting God placed within the number of trees the tree of knowledge which we later

Analysis Of A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin in the sun
This play takes place in the 1950s, in the Southside of Chicago. With a family of five hard–working
African Americans. Even Though the exact years isn't specified in the play. Since the play takes
place in the 1950s during a very significant time dealing with race issues that were going on at that
time. In the 1950s it was the turning point for America for civil injustice, the beginning of the
decade brought in the civil rights movement. At that time most of the south was segregated by
racists Jim Crow laws. Also, many African Americans faced unofficial racists barriers up north. So
when reading the play I wasn't surprised that the members of the family lived in a tiny roach–
infested apartment, even though they had to use the neighbor's bathroom across the hall, there's was
still hope for change. Most of the family looked forward to a very large check coming in the mail
from the late father insurance policy. But until then they were stuck in the same living situation. In
this play, it's a great example of a man in conflict with another man, since the complication is a
disagreement with the whole family on how the money should be spent. Lena Younger who's the
mother of Walter and Beneatha. The matriarch of the family, an extremely religious woman. She
wants to use her husband's insurance money as a down–payment to move into a house with a
backyard. So she can achieve a feeling of gratification through seeing her family move up in the
world.

The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China
Introduction
Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed
due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese
market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before
they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced
According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted
from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United
States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories
and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon
in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of
Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues
and Mattel Performance
Values and Attitudes
The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do
business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see
what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. & Topchaya,
Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their
business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know
Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and
Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel.
Dress codes
Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts
or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker
& Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the
western culture.
Marketing styles differences
When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before
placing it in stores or opening a new business. The Barbie store opened in a single location in a large
country which could be

Barbie the Teenage Fashion Doll Essay examples
The idea of Barbie came about when a woman named Ruth Handler was watching her daughter play
with dolls. In the 1950's, girls of all ages only had paper or cardboard dolls to play with and
preferred to play with cut outs of teenagers and adult dolls. So, Ruth Handler thought to make The
Teenage Fashion Doll for older girls, as a three dimensional doll, called Barbie, named after her
daughter Barbara (Heppermann 2010). However, Mrs. Handler met resistance when she went to her
husband with the idea, and he didn't think her idea would work out. When they travelled to
Germany, she found a doll called Bild Lilli. This doll was a strong–minded individual that would
use all at her disposal to get what she wanted. Bild Lilli was ... Show more content on

Young girls usually use the dolls to play house or dress–up. Sometimes when there is an
accompanying set, there are simple instructions given for example, if the Barbie doll came with the
Glam Fashion Jet, it would be accompanied with instructions of how to use each part of the jet.
Moreover, Barbies are very durable and depending on how well they are maintained, they can
become family heirlooms and be passed on from generation to generation. Often, depending on the
age of the child, the Barbie may be altered either by the cutting of her hair or the changing of her
clothes. Yet, due to the fact that Barbie is a lifestyle toy, children are encouraged to continue these
alterations to promote creative thought. Therefore overall, Barbies can last indefinitely with proper
care or be short–lived if they are not well taken care of.
Barbie's popularity spread like wildfire, leading to her being used as a platform to immortalize
popular figures by way of making special editions figures of them. For instance, America's First
Lady in the 60s, Jackie Kennedy was one of the first muses and hence set precedence for future
icons. This also extends to many designers such as Christian Louboutin, Vera Wang, and Alexander
McQueen who have collaborated with Mattel to celebrate Barbie's 50TH anniversary, in 2009
(Parker, 2008). This form of branding provides notoriety for both the inspirational figure and his
work and for the toy as well. This is no small feat for

With that ball pitchers were allowed to scuff, cut, and spit on it, affectively being able to make the
ball "dance" and harder to hit. People put the end of the "dead ball" era on the 1919 season when
Babe Ruth hit an unheard of 29 homeruns. People began to pack the stands to see the long ball, so
owners decreased the dimensions of the fields thus increasing the odds of someone hitting a
homerun. They also added rules to the pitchers against scuffing and cutting, and the balls were
switched out more frequently too. The MLB didn't start until 1876 with the National league and then
they brought in the American league in 1901. The first World Series was held in 1903 with the
Boston Americans beating the Pittsburg pirates 5–3. Baseball hasn't always been glorified as it was
though. It experienced rough times in the 1940's when African Americans weren't allowed to play in
the major league but thanks to Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby, they eliminated the racial
discrimination in baseball and outside the baseball world. Baseball has also experienced rough times
during the WWII and Vietnam era. During the time of war, players would go and serve in the

baseball returned to its once prestige self.

Mattel And The Chinese Consumer Market Essay
Introduction
This paper will explore issues Mattel, U.S. toymaker faced when it decided to opens its door in
China. The store was designed to cater to young girls who may be interested in purchasing Barbie
doll clothing and accessories. The flagship store had to close its doors in two years, because of
global cultural issues that hadn't be well thought out. This paper will discuss those issues and it
present some solutions on how Mattel can be successful in the Chinese consumer market.
Problems Mattel Faced In 2009, Mattel, one of the world's largest toy maker, opened its flagship
Barbie Store in Shanghai, China. Mattel invested over $30 million in the House of Barbie that
eventually closed its doors in two years. Gar Crispell, general manager of Barbie Shanghai, pointed
out a few mistakes the toy giant failed to realize. In China, the doll doesn't represent any cultural
meaning for Chinese girls or young women. Barbie would be better received the doll was presented
in a way that it would inspire Chinese girls. One problem with Barbie is that not enough people in
China new who she was, unlike in other countries where generation of women grew up with Barbie
dolls. The Shanghai Barbie store was not easily accessible, with no parking spaces and it was not
near the subway station. (Wang, 2012)
Six Cultural Issues
Mattel ran into numerous issues when the global giant decided to do business in China.

The Plastic Life Of The Barbie Doll Essay
The Plastic Life Launched on March 1959, the Barbie doll is a toy that was first put on display in
New York. It quickly garnered a lot of attention with the target audience of the creators, young girls.
This doll was different than its previous dolls because it was a doll that was an ideal representation
of a woman. Thus allowing young girls to use their imagination to create and act–out what this doll's
life is like and what their future would potentially be. To successfully understand this toy, we must
think like C Wright Mills, a sociologist who asks to use our sociological imagination, the
intersection of one's biography and history. This artifact reflects and perpetuates the dominant
ideology of how to perform your gender the "right" way in the early 1960s. I will argue this
demonstrates West and Zimmerman's concept of "doing gender" which is clarified with Judith
Butler's concept of socialization of gender. The Barbie doll is an eleven–inch–long plastic doll that
was the first representation of an adult woman. The original Barbie doll, built in 1959, looked as
such, going from head to toe. The doll's skin color was white. The hair color was available in either
blonde or brunette put up in a ponytail. The face: the eyes were constructed with white irises, heavy
black eyeliner, blonde or brown eyebrows, blush, and red lips. As for clothing, she wore a black and
white striped swimsuit with gold hoop earrings. Along with her came two accessories of black open

Questions On ' Sickness ' And Chilion ( ' Destruction '
Chris Shea
ENG 360
Professor Mary Anne Nunn
09/22/16
Paper I – Part 2
1. Other than Mahlon ('sickness') and Chilion ('destruction'), there are other names in the Book of
Ruth which have their own meanings in Hebrew. Elimelech, the name of the father and Naomi's
husband, means 'God is King'. Naomi means 'pleasant', and the name she wants everyone to call her
after she heads back to Jerusalem without her husband and children (Mara) means 'bitter'. And
Obed, the child of Boaz and Ruth, means 'worshipper'. However, it is still unknown what the words
Ruth or Orpah mean.
Meanwhile with non–character–name words, the country where all the men die is call Moaz, and
life is brought back in Bethlehem. Also, the word glean meaning 'to pick up after the reapers' and
references to wheat frequently show up midway through the Book (especially chapter 3). And there
are also phrases such as 'uncover his feet' (a potential implication of sexual intercourse) and 'take off
the sandal and give it to the other' (for sale/rights exchanges) which can shape our understanding
past the structure of the text.
2. The name Elimelech is the name of the family. Elimelech himself has this name until his death,
and Boaz soon gets it after marrying Ruth. There is a meaningful association with this phrase which
means 'God is King' and the family. They are seen in good faith by the LORD when they have this
name. It is not until after they leave Bethlehem and arrive in Moab that this name is stripped from

The Yankees are chock full of good, young talent, but aren't there yet. They added a few older

also got back Aroldis Chapman, the flamethrowing closer who they traded at the deadline last year
to acquire the second best prospect in baseball and the Arizona Fall League MVP, Gleyber Torres.
We'll get to see more from their best rookie prospects this year as Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and
Greg Bird get more exposure to the big leagues. It'll be awfully intriguing to see how Sanchez does

Ruth Is A Biblical Story
Ruth is a Biblical story loved by many. A story of God's unexpected plan panning out in a style that
only He could come up with inspires many to trust His direction. The movie, titled The Story of
Ruth, conveys this message though the movie does not always adhere to perfect Biblical accuracy.
The addition of certain events and characters enhances the movie's appeal, yet distracts from the
factual account presented in the Bible. The movie begins with Ruth being sold for service to
Chemosh in order for her family to be fed. After being sold, she is required to worship and serve
Chemosh. The Moabites, to appease Chemosh, have an annual sacrifice of one of the children. Ruth
is chosen by the priest to be sacrificed and suddenly a blemish appears on the crook of her elbow
causing the priest to select a different sacrifice. The blemish suddenly vanishes after the priest
selects another girl to be sacrificed. The blemish's quick appearance and disappearance demonstrate
that Ruth is destined to be used by God for something greater and that He will not have her die for a
false god. Upon meeting Mahlon, she is slowly converting to Judaism through Mahlon's teaching of
creation, prayer, and love. She begins to question the ways of Chemosh and the annual sacrifice,
leading to her eventually leave the kingdom to follow God. Elimelech and Chilion die at the hands
of the Moabite army while Ruth and Mahlon are held captive. After the escape, Mahlon lives just
long enough to marry Ruth. Ruth

My Childhood Dreams

loving parents that have been with me through it all and now of days that is something to be truly
thankful for. My parents taught me to strive to be anything that I wanted and that I could be anything
that I set my mind to. These dreams changed throughout my life as I grew older and as I grew into
the person that I am today. From the time I was able to walk I wanted to be a professional baseball
player. I always fantasized it being game seven of the world series, with my team down three runs,
the bases loaded with two outs, and I was up to bat. Of course every single time I fantasized about
this, which was a lot I might add, I knocked a 400 foot home run in the left field bleachers to win the
world series. I played in numerous amounts of wiffle ball games with my brother, sister, and my dad
in backyard even when I was only two years old and would run the bases backwards. By the way,
my family is super competitive, so there were some intense games in my backyard. Baseball has
been my love since day one. The word "ball" was even my first word. I have played in probably a
billion baseball games in my life and I have not regretted one second of it. I have had an amazing
career playing and I am truly blessed for the ability I have been given, but I know I will never

Ruth Character Analysis
Ruth: A Woman of Noble Character
Ruth is one of the women favored by God to have her own book in the Bible. She is a woman that
has given inspiration to millions of women and men alike in the world. In this paper I will be
highlighting Ruth's characteristics of faith, obedience, loyalty, humility and love that led her
transformation to follow a true and living God. Secondly, I will be examining Ruth's redemption

challenge the conventional understanding of how to treat outsiders. Consequently, without each

decision to return home, without Ruth committing to Naomi, without Ruth's hunger and decision to

no stairs, and only one big window that serves as a door for my mother, and an escape route for me.
Except, I live in a tower. Mother comes to me at meal times or for lessons but does not stay full
time. So because there are no stair, my hair serves as a rope to pull my mother up to the window, and
because it's finally long enough, I am able to lower myself down also. My hair is now twice as long
as the tower is high so as I approach the tower, I toss my hair up so that it catches on

Self Objectification In The Barbie Doll
Barbie is one of the most successful fashion dolls with a worldwide annual income of $1.5 billion
sales (Mattel, 2003). Its popularity is astounding, with 99% of children aged three to ten in the
United States own the minimum of one Barbie doll, whereas the average number of dolls owned
eight (Rodgers, 1999). The Barbie doll is viewed as a fashion icon, its long term success can be
attributed to the fact that Barbie lives an extremely glamorous life by having eighty careers and
numerous pets, has the most stylish clothing as trends are kept up with by producers by creating
nearly one billion designs every year, and embodies the ideal standard of beauty of being tall, skinny
and beautiful. Together, these factors make a Barbie doll very desirable, ... Show more content on

The image of a Barbie doll is often sexualized due to the skimpy and revealing clothing it wears.
This may lead to the process of self–objectification, as frequent exposure to sexualized images
causes internalization of objectifying and sensual ideas. Thus, young girls start to place focus
predominantly on physical appearance, instead of their feelings and talents (Fredrickson & Roberts,
1997). The concept of self–objectification can be actively illustrated through a survey conducted in
the United Kingdom, where it was established that 32% of the female respondents desired to
become a model, 29% desired to become actresses, whereas 14% wanted to become a scientist and
only 4% desired becoming engineers (Gould, 2008). These statistical findings underline the idea of
self–objectification as many girls decided that appearance–based careers were feasible and
desirable, rather than careers that required academic achievement. Additionally, Barbie's careers are
laced with indicators of sexualization, for example, instead of calling the Doctor Barbie a
"pediatrician", they are advertised as a "baby doctor", nor are they advertised as medical doctors by
specialty, for example, a cardiologist. Their attire is also sexualized with tight and pink glitter jeans

Barbie : A New Campaign Promoting Empowering Girls Essay
Recently Barbie launched a new campaign promoting empowering girls to be anything they want to
be. The viral spot created by BBDO brings the idea that Barbie helps to inspire children for the
future. In my opinion, BBDO's project was made in an insightful and holistic way because the
concept and the execution work together and speak exactly to the target audience.
Barbie is the worldwide brand of fashion dolls manufactured by the American toy–company Mattel,
Inc. Nevertheless. Today Barbie is not just a toy, but an entire corporation; she has a sweetheart Ken,
a family, friends, animals as well as a house, a car and designers' clothes. Since the first launch in
March 1959, Barbie became an icon: she was sold in 150 countries and still remains the world 's
most popular doll. According to Mattel, nowadays, three plastic, 11.5 inch Barbie dolls are sold
every second.
Nowadays, Barbie is considered the possible cause for young girls' body dissatisfaction (e.g.,
anorexia and/or bulimia). This fact caused huge damage to the image of the brand and resulted in a
sharp declining of overall sales of the Barbie dolls. Mattel has reported the falling in sales every
year since 2011. For instance, Barbie's sales dropped by 16% in 2014, with the sales falling by the
double digits for each quarter throughout the year. According to the Euromonitor, Barbie's share of
the US doll market has declined from about 25% in 2010 to 19.6% in 2013. In spite of attempts to
revitalize the brand through

Adults are aware of it and see the media, as advertisements on television, the latest blockbuster at the theaters or the trendy new clothing. Children are not free from it either; they to are exposed to the medias imagery and ideals maybe more than adults are. Parents may not pay close attention to the media their children are exposed to; adults may think they are just harmless children's toys or games. In fact, children who watch hours of television a day are exposed to dieting, and may see it as a part of growing up. "Heavier–viewing children may glamorize dieting and view it as a way of 'playing grown–up' before they begin to diet with the intention of meeting an internalized body ideal." (Harrison et al) Children are very receptive to these images, they may see dieting as just a grown up thing now, but later on may see it as a necessary part of growing up. If children can catch on to things like that, then they can certainty catch on to things like the thin ideal. An experiment was done where preschool aged girls were given a choice between playing with three different game pieces, a fat one, a normal one, and a thin game piece; this was what the researchers discovered. The fans are in shock because the crowd is familiar with baseball games being on the dull side, but this baseball game has the fans at the edge of the seat. Now imagine every Oakland Athletics game having this powerful energy, home run after home run, fast running, and the loud crowd cheering for the home team. The score is tied and the baseball game is in the last inning. The crowd begins to scream and sweat nervously, with only a few seconds left. The players are running all over the court as fast as ever before, and the sound of the ball being hit against the bat is so loud the crowd can hear the sound from the nosebleeds. McGwire swings and hits a homerun and the Oakland Athletics win. But come to find out Mark McGwire, who hit the winning homerun had Performance–Enhancing Drugs in his system. The other team is infuriated when knowing the truth behind all of the fast balls and home runs which were hit, and knowing the team was cheated and had a chance to win. The Oakland Athletics were ashamed to hear the news from the fellow team mate. Unfortunately due to the professional athlete's well performance, McGwire influenced other baseball players to begin using the drug. In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the 'Barbie Doll' which is a toy for children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900's to the present generation and how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. He says children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child's head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them ... Summary Of Margaret Mead's Coming Of Age In Samoa Margaret Mead was first to major in psychology at Bernard but later went on to Colombia and received a doctorate studying with Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. To her Anthropology was a big commitment to learn and study new human behaviors. In her book Coming Of Age In Samoa she argued the children now a days in a modern society are forced to fit education in their lives rather than "inflexible education mould". Her main goal was to study the lives and behavior changes from a new born to a young adult. Although she could have done her research in Modern society she wanted to get a different aspect of behaviors on minds that where not corrupted. Her research was aiming towards a different type of culture, a culture that education was not the focus but more based on home standards and values. In her book Coming of Age In Samoa she describes the social facts and gives a thick description based on research done on "simple people", theories that made her book a best seller. In Meads intro to the book she explains the research they are trying to conduct and how it cannot be done in a modern world country. She explains they have no control over to what the child has been exposed to that every research they would conduct would result in a different outcome. To solve this dilemma, she decided to target her studies to "simple people, primitive peoples, whose society has never attained the complexity of our own." (pg. 7 paragraph 2). The basic literary is narrative and the authorship is believed to be Samuel written between 1020 – 1000 BC. The main personalities of this book are Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. The Book of Ruth is about how a man named Elimelech takes his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon and Chilion from living in a town known as "the house of bread" in Bethlehem to the land of Moab on his own will to escape death. Here the two sons married unequally yoked Moab women by the names of Orpah and Ruth. All within a decade Naomi loses her husband and two sons to death. One day Naomi hears that God's favor has returned to Bethlehem and that food is available so Naomi decides to return. Not too far into the journey back to Bethlehem, accompanied by Orpah and Ruth, Naomi tells Orpah and Ruth to return to Moab but Ruth decides to continue with Naomi and follow God. Upon their arrival, the whole town was in a frenzy at the return of Naomi. When confronted about her identity she told them to call her Mara, which means bitter, and no longer Naomi which means pleasant. Ruth Fulton Benedict Essay Considered a pioneer in her time, Ruth Fulton Benedict was an American anthropologist who helped to popularize anthropology while introducing such terms as culture and racism into common place language. As an advocate against discriminatory attitudes, Benedict advocated for tolerance and individuality within social norms and expectations and sought to determine that each culture has its own moral imperatives. Using a pen name of Anne Singleton, Benedict wrote poetry and graduated from high school at St. Margaret's Academy. Continuing to have aspirations of personal success, Benedict enrolled at Vassar College where she majored in English and later became a teacher after moving to Los Angeles with her sister. Benedict was yearning for something and yet at this time could not find what was beckoning to emerge when she married and returned to New York City. It was during this time, that Benedict experienced her internal conflicts and began to seek fulfillment. Coupled with a desire for personal growth and seeking refuge from an empty and childless marriage she began pursuing her education. This conflict was seen in Benedict's candor in her mid to late thirties as she pursued graduate work. As written in personal journals, Benedict says, "I gambled on having the strength to live two lives, one for myself and one for the world" (Mead, p.3). Unsatisfied with her life, Benedict married a biochemist named Stanley Benedict in 1914 hoping to find meaning. Guts, flesh, and meat went flying out to every direction with every swing of the baseball bats that we had. I fancied a long pipe with scissor blades taped at the end of the pipe. The others decided to go old fashioned and just use a good old, trusty baseball bat. I've been dreaming of this day ever since I've started watching The Walking Dead. We've been killing walkers non stop. I was lucky enough to have found Thomas walking around the halls. Finally, the doors were barricaded, and the final battle of the second trial came close. I had to finish this. Deus and Onaga, the two deities gave me hints on where to go. I followed their wishes and went to the chorus room. Again, more danger was there. This was Olivia's class... However, being the type of person that he was, he stayed around just to practice with the team. It turns out that this was the best decision of his career because later that spring, the Braves' left fielder broke his ankle. This opened a spot on the team. The next day, Aaron started in his place and got three hits, including a line–drive homerun. Because of his success, the manager offered Aaron a contract to play for the Braves. By the end of the 1973 season, he had 713 career homeruns, one less than the all–time record. • 38. Franz Boas : Cultural Anthropology Essay Born and brought up Jewish in Germany during a very antisemitic time, Franz Boas was a successful student, earning his doctorate at a fairly young age and holding an academic position in Berlin. However, in 1886 Boas found himself in New York after having participated in several ethnographic studies in Canada. He decided to remain in New York for several reasons, the main one being that it kept him close to the North American Indians and Inuit who were the peoples most fascinating to him. In 1899 he became a professor of Anthropology at Columbia university and went on to teach and mentor some of the most important people in Anthropology today. Boaz received much of his schooling from scholars in Germany, who like many others, were skeptical of evolutionism. Boaz became convinced that the task of an anthropologist wasn 't simply to study peoples and their culture but to also carefully and systematically collect detailed data and material on these particular cultures and only then would one be able to be cognizant of them. In the USA, this became known as cultural anthropology. It consisted of everything humans have created from society, symbolism, to materialism. It quite literally encompassed everything human and because of this reason Boas, advocated for subfields to be created in Anthropology. These fields became known as linguistics, cultural anthropology, physical or biological anthropology, and archaeology. Students were then trained in a specific field rather then the ... However, during my time of reading for class I found myself obtaining advice from certain phrases that I held in my mind from our readings assignments. The readings during class covered stories from the world that God created to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which lead to the making of Christianity. Within that time, the numerous amount of people that wrote the vital text in the Bible did not only include key events such as the rule of kings and wars in which historians have been able to confirm and thereby being able to confirm or alter the timeline within the bible; but also religious messages to benefit the soul of those reading. The verses of Genesis 2:9, Numbers 12:3, Ruth 2:19, Luke 6:31, and Kings 3:9 were the highlight verses of advice in our reading for myself and hopefully many others in the world. The first quote that stuck out to me was in the book of Genesis, "The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground–trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." (Genesis 2:9). Even Though the exact years isn't specified in the play. Since the play takes place in the 1950s during a very significant time dealing with race issues that were going on at that time. In the 1950s it was the turning point for America for civil injustice, the beginning of the decade brought in the civil rights movement. At that time most of the south was segregated by racists Jim Crow laws. Also, many African Americans faced unofficial racists barriers up north. So when reading the play I wasn't surprised that the members of the family lived in a tiny roach– infested apartment, even though they had to use the neighbor's bathroom across the hall, there's was still hope for change. Most of the family looked forward to a very large check coming in the mail from the late father insurance policy. But until then they were stuck in the same living situation. In this play, it's a great example of a man in conflict with another man, since the complication is a disagreement with the whole family on how the money should be spent. Lena Younger who's the mother of Walter and Beneatha. The matriarch of the family, an extremely religious woman. • 46. The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China Introduction Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance Values and Attitudes The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. & Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel. Dress codes Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker & Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western culture. Marketing styles differences When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before placing it in stores or opening a new business. In the 1950's, girls of all ages only had paper or cardboard dolls to play with and preferred to play with cut outs of teenagers and adult dolls. So, Ruth Handler thought to make The Teenage Fashion Doll for older girls, as a three dimensional doll, called Barbie, named after her daughter Barbara (Heppermann 2010). However, Mrs. Handler met resistance when she went to her husband with the idea, and he didn't think her idea would work out. When they travelled to Germany, she found a doll called Bild Lilli. Young girls usually use the dolls to play house or dress–up. Sometimes when there is an accompanying set, there are simple instructions given for example, if the Barbie doll came with the Glam Fashion Jet, it would be accompanied with instructions of how to use each part of the jet. Moreover, Barbies are very durable and depending on how well they are maintained, they can become family heirlooms and be passed on from generation to generation. Often, depending on the age of the child, the Barbie may be altered either by the cutting of her hair or the changing of her clothes. Yet, due to the fact that Barbie is a lifestyle toy, children are encouraged to continue these alterations to promote creative thought. Therefore overall, Barbies can last indefinitely with proper care or be short–lived if they are not well taken care of. Barbie's popularity spread like wildfire, leading to her being used as a platform to immortalize popular figures by way of making special editions figures of them. For instance, America's First Lady in the 60s, Jackie Kennedy was one of the first muses and hence set precedence for future icons. This also extends to many designers such as Christian Louboutin, Vera Wang, and Alexander McQueen who have collaborated with Mattel to celebrate Barbie's 50TH anniversary, in 2009 (Parker, 2008). This form of branding provides notoriety for both the inspirational figure and his work and for the toy as well. This is no small feat for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To successfully understand this toy, we must think like C Wright Mills, a sociologist who asks to use our sociological imagination, the intersection of one's biography and history. This artifact reflects and perpetuates the dominant ideology of how to perform your gender the "right" way in the early 1960s. I will argue this demonstrates West and Zimmerman's concept of "doing gender" which is clarified with Judith Butler's concept of socialization of gender. The Barbie doll is an eleven–inch–long plastic doll that was the first representation of an adult woman. The original Barbie doll, built in 1959, looked as such, going from head to toe. The doll's skin color was white. The hair color was available in either blonde or brunette put up in a ponytail. The face: the eyes were constructed with white irises, heavy black eyeliner, blonde or brown eyebrows, blush, and red lips. As for clothing, she wore a black and white striped swimsuit with gold hoop earrings. Along with her came two accessories of black open toe heels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Questions On ' Sickness ' And Chilion ( ' Destruction ' Chris Shea ENG 360 Professor Mary Anne Nunn 09/22/16 Paper I – Part 2 1. Other than Mahlon ('sickness') and Chilion ('destruction'), there are other names in the Book of Ruth which have their own meanings in Hebrew. Elimelech, the name of the father and Naomi's husband, means 'God is King'. Naomi means 'pleasant', and the name she wants everyone to call her after she heads back to Jerusalem without her husband and children (Mara) means 'bitter'. And Obed, the child of Boaz and Ruth, means 'worshipper'. However, it is still unknown what the words Ruth or Orpah mean. Meanwhile with non–character–name words, the country where all the men die is call Moaz, and life is brought back in Bethlehem. Also, the word glean meaning 'to pick up after the reapers' and references to wheat frequently show up midway through the Book (especially chapter 3). And there are also phrases such as 'uncover his feet' (a potential implication of sexual intercourse) and 'take off the sandal and give it to the other' (for sale/rights exchanges) which can shape our understanding past the structure of the text. 2. The name Elimelech is the name of the family. Elimelech himself has this name until his death, and Boaz soon gets it after marrying Ruth. There is a meaningful association with this phrase which means 'God is King' and the family. They are seen in good faith by the LORD when they have this name. It is not until after they leave Bethlehem and arrive in Moab that this name is stripped from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Prediction Analysis For Baseball Prediction Analysis American League Last year, it was the Rangers who had the best record in the AL, followed by the Indians, with the Red Sox in third, while the Blue Jays and Orioles captured wild card spots. Teams that fell just short of wild card spots were the Tigers, Mariners, Astros and Yankees. The Royals and White Sox were mediocre, while the Angels, Athletics, Rays, and Twins were quite poor. Which five of these teams have the best chance to make or return to the playoffs this year? AL East Four teams have the potential to make the playoffs from the strongest division in baseball, which sent three last year. The Red Sox acquired Chris Sale, a perennial All–Star pitcher, in a blockbuster deal with the White Sox that saw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Happ, and Marco Estrada, they have an underrated rotation as well. They have a young, congenial closer in Roberto Osuna managing an otherwise average bullpen. Expect the Blue Jays to compete for a wild card spot. The Yankees are chock full of good, young talent, but aren't there yet. They added a few older players to help them try to get to the playoffs anyway, namely Matt Holliday and Chris Carter. They also got back Aroldis Chapman, the flamethrowing closer who they traded at the deadline last year to acquire the second best prospect in baseball and the Arizona Fall League MVP, Gleyber Torres. We'll get to see more from their best rookie prospects this year as Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Greg Bird get more exposure to the big leagues. It'll be awfully intriguing to see how Sanchez does after an absolutely monstrous two months in which he hit a ridiculous 20 homers with 42 RBIs coupled with a .300/.376/.657 slash line, while gunning down an absurd 68% of baserunners in 53 games, en route to finishing second in the AL Rookie of Year voting, after being brought up from Triple A after the Trade Deadline. The Yanks have an okay rotation anchored by ace Masahiro Tanaka, who finished third in ERA last year in the AL. They haven't had a losing season since 1992, and don't think this will be the year. Expect them to compete in the East, but not make the playoffs. However, they are certainly capable of grabbing a wild card ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Ruth Is A Biblical Story Ruth is a Biblical story loved by many. A story of God's unexpected plan panning out in a style that only He could come up with inspires many to trust His direction. The movie, titled The Story of Ruth, conveys this message though the movie does not always adhere to perfect Biblical accuracy. The addition of certain events and characters enhances the movie's appeal, yet distracts from the factual account presented in the Bible. The movie begins with Ruth being sold for service to Chemosh in order for her family to be fed. After being sold, she is required to worship and serve Chemosh. The Moabites, to appease Chemosh, have an annual sacrifice of one of the children. Ruth is chosen by the priest to be sacrificed and suddenly a blemish appears on the crook of her elbow causing the priest to select a different sacrifice. The blemish suddenly vanishes after the priest selects another girl to be sacrificed. The blemish's quick appearance and disappearance demonstrate that Ruth is destined to be used by God for something greater and that He will not have her die for a false god. Upon meeting Mahlon, she is slowly converting to Judaism through Mahlon's teaching of creation, prayer, and love. She begins to question the ways of Chemosh and the annual sacrifice, leading to her eventually leave the kingdom to follow God. Elimelech and Chilion die at the hands of the Moabite army while Ruth and Mahlon are held captive. After the escape, Mahlon lives just long enough to marry Ruth. Ruth ... • 66. My Childhood Dreams My Childhood Dreams As I take a look back on my life, I realize how great it has truly been. I had an absolutely amazing childhood and I am beyond blessed for it. I grew up in a home with two loving parents that have been with me through it all and now of days that is something to be truly thankful for. My parents taught me to strive to be anything that I wanted and that I could be anything that I set my mind to. These dreams changed throughout my life as I grew older and as I grew into the person that I am today. From the time I was able to walk I wanted to be a professional baseball player. I always fantasized it being game seven of the world series, with my team down three runs, the bases loaded with two outs, and I was up to bat. Of course every single time I fantasized about this, which was a lot I might add, I knocked a 400 foot home run in the left field bleachers to win the world series. I played in numerous amounts of wiffle ball games with my brother, sister, and my dad in backyard even when I was only two years old and would run the bases backwards. By the way, my family is super competitive, so there were some intense games in my backyard. Baseball has been my love since day one. The word "ball" was even my first word. I have played in probably a billion baseball games in my life and I have not regretted one second of it. I have had an amazing career playing and I am truly blessed for the ability I have been given, but I know I will never actually be able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Ruth Character Analysis Ruth: A Woman of Noble Character Ruth is one of the women favored by God to have her own book in the Bible. She is a woman that has given inspiration to millions of women and men alike in the world. In this paper I will be highlighting Ruth's characteristics of faith, obedience, loyalty, humility and love that led her transformation to follow a true and living God. Secondly, I will be examining Ruth's redemption through Boaz in contrast with Jesus redemption for sinners dying on the cross. Thirdly, how she became to be the great–grandmother to King David a kingdom connection to the savior of the world. Introduction: Who Was Ruth? Ruth was a young woman from the Moabite country. She was a widow a foreigner and considered a "Gentile" or non–Jew. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haugh, depicts the characters in Ruth to have a swirl of characteristics that range from openness to prejudice and from altruism to selfishness. He thinks, the most likely reason for this story is to challenge the conventional understanding of how to treat outsiders. Consequently, without each character's pursuit of his or her self–interest, the story would not work at all. Without Naomi's decision to return home, without Ruth committing to Naomi, without Ruth's hunger and decision to look for food, without the dangerous scheme that connects Ruth to Boaz, without Boaz's desire for Ruth–without all of those self–interested acts, we would never get the subversive message that speaks of justice for all of God's community, including those who are typically excluded. • 70. Bad News Bears Essays Bad News Bears "Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world" these were the words once uttered by Babe Ruth. The Bad News Bears is a 1976 film, remade in 2005, about a little league baseball team full of misfits that were originally excluded from their Southern California baseball league for not being talented enough, but parent protest allowed for the team to be formed. The coach in charge of this team is a drunk, ex–professional baseball pitcher named Morris Buttermaker only thinking of himself and his paychecks. The team loses their first game after having to forfeit in the top of the first inning, quickly forming a rivalry with the Yankees. The team then wants to quit, but Buttermaker has a change of heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boys don't know what to do, other than steal the money from his wallet and go home. In both movies the team slowly improves until Buttermaker, after several attempts, gets the daughter of his ex–girlfriend to join the team as the ace pitcher. Still, neither team wins a game until the addition of Kelly Leak, a juvenile delinquent often with amazing athletic ability. Both movies contain a montage of unbelievable success resulting from these new players, landing the Bears in the title game. Although the team loses the championship, both films end on a happy note with a "see you next year" to the Yankees and team beer shower. Morris Buttermaker is a washed up former semiprofessional baseball pitcher. This is the lead character in the Bad News Bears. Originally played by Walter Matthua, then remade with Billy Bob Thornton, Buttermaker is self–loving alcoholic who smokes cheap cigars like a chimney. Although Thornton and Matthua played this character similarly, there were some key differences. The newer version of Buttermaker is a womanizer unlike the original. Thornton's character even sleeps with one of the players moms. The Bears even have numerous amounts of risqué girls cheering for the young boys at their games. In the 1976 version the Buttermaker states that he only pitched in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees. However in the remake he supposedly pitched two thirds of an inning for the Seattle Mariners, with his career earned run average being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. The Baby Monitor Crackling As A Voice Soothed My Firstborn... Prologue.... I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor crackling as a voice soothed my firstborn child. As I moved to change my position, my arm brushed over my wife. I got out of bed and rushed to the baby's room, all the while thinking I should have never taken those greens. I didn't believe she'd do it, after all it was only a handful of greens. I thought it was just an empty threat. What was I going to do? How was I going to tell my wife, who didn't even know about the threat? Will I ever get to see the baby ever again? I didn't even have a chance to name her yet. By the time I had reached the baby's room, they were both gone. Chapter one. 19 years later.... "I have to get back!", I said to myself. If I don't get back in time, who knows where she will take me this time. The last time she found out that I had got out, she brought me here. At least there we had a fireplace, a door, stairs, more than one window,etc... But here, here we do not have any source of warmth, no doors, no stairs, and only one big window that serves as a door for my mother, and an escape route for me. Except, I live in a tower. Mother comes to me at meal times or for lessons but does not stay full time. So because there are no stair, my hair serves as a rope to pull my mother up to the window, and because it's finally long enough, I am able to lower myself down also. My hair is now twice as long as the tower is high so as I approach the tower, I toss my hair up so that it catches on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Self Objectification In The Barbie Doll Barbie is one of the most successful fashion dolls with a worldwide annual income of $1.5 billion sales (Mattel, 2003). Its popularity is astounding, with 99% of children aged three to ten in the United States own the minimum of one Barbie doll, whereas the average number of dolls owned eight (Rodgers, 1999). The Barbie doll is viewed as a fashion icon, its long term success can be attributed to the fact that Barbie lives an extremely glamorous life by having eighty careers and numerous pets, has the most stylish clothing as trends are kept up with by producers by creating nearly one billion designs every year, and embodies the ideal standard of beauty of being tall, skinny and beautiful. Together, these factors make a Barbie doll very desirable, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The image of a Barbie doll is often sexualized due to the skimpy and revealing clothing it wears. This may lead to the process of self–objectification, as frequent exposure to sexualized images causes internalization of objectifying and sensual ideas. Thus, young girls start to place focus predominantly on physical appearance, instead of their feelings and talents (Fredrickson & Roberts, 1997). The concept of self–objectification can be actively illustrated through a survey conducted in the United Kingdom, where it was established that 32% of the female respondents desired to become a model, 29% desired to become actresses, whereas 14% wanted to become a scientist and only 4% desired becoming engineers (Gould, 2008). These statistical findings underline the idea of self–objectification as many girls decided that appearance–based careers were feasible and desirable, rather than careers that required academic achievement. Additionally, Barbie's careers are laced with indicators of sexualization, for example, instead of calling the Doctor Barbie a "pediatrician", they are advertised as a "baby doctor", nor are they advertised as medical doctors by specialty, for example, a cardiologist. Their attire is also sexualized with tight and pink glitter jeans (Turkel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Barbie : A New Campaign Promoting Empowering Girls Essay Recently Barbie launched a new campaign promoting empowering girls to be anything they want to be. The viral spot created by BBDO brings the idea that Barbie helps to inspire children for the future. In my opinion, BBDO's project was made in an insightful and holistic way because the concept and the execution work together and speak exactly to the target audience. Barbie is the worldwide brand of fashion dolls manufactured by the American toy–company Mattel, Inc. Nevertheless. Today Barbie is not just a toy, but an entire corporation; she has a sweetheart Ken, a family, friends, animals as well as a house, a car and designers' clothes. Since the first launch in March 1959, Barbie became an icon: she was sold in 150 countries and still remains the world 's most popular doll. According to Mattel, nowadays, three plastic, 11.5 inch Barbie dolls are sold every second. Nowadays, Barbie is considered the possible cause for young girls' body dissatisfaction (e.g., anorexia and/or bulimia). This fact caused huge damage to the image of the brand and resulted in a sharp declining of overall sales of the Barbie dolls. Mattel has reported the falling in sales every year since 2011. For instance, Barbie's sales dropped by 16% in 2014, with the sales falling by the double digits for each quarter throughout the year. According to the Euromonitor, Barbie's share of the US doll market has declined from about 25% in 2010 to 19.6% in 2013. In spite of attempts to revitalize the brand through ...
