From this bar graph we can see that the 3 most popular genres that the
people I asked listened to were Pop, R&B and singer/songwriter. I wanted to
ask this question to see how much music variety people listened to and what
genre to base my music magazine around. I expected pop to be the most
listened to as many young people like to keep up to date with new chart
music. As every genre had at least one person choose it, I’ve decided that my
music magazine will have a mixture of each of these genres.

YES NO SOMETIMES
I was quite shocked that some people spent up to £20 on magazines per month as I
didn’t realise there was such a large selection of music magazines. Most peoples limit
on how much money would spend on a music magazine was £5 and £0. Most of the
music magazines around at the minute are either rock or indie/alternative, so maybe
a music magazine featuring all the genre types is what the music magazine market
needs.

YES NO SOMETIMES
I expected people to read magazines very often, so I was quite shocked at these
results. But I don’t read magazines very often myself. I read magazines when i
have the time to, so I think many people my age are the same as we have
homework to complete etc.. Also most music magazines such as Q and NME are
quite expensive for what they are in my opinion, so some people might not be
able to afford them.
5. Do you buy music magazines?

YES NO SOMETIMES
The majority of people who I asked said that they don’t buy music magazines, or they
only do if they are interested in the artists that are featured in them. Some people said
that they only buy celebrity based ones such as Heat or OK magazine. As people prefer
celebrity gossip magazines, I want mine to be a mixture of both so that they can keep up
with the latest celebrity gossip and their favourite band or singer.

As you can see the majority of people who answered this question said
that eye contact straight at the reader attracted them to a magazine. This
result has definitely helped me with how to pose my model on the front
cover.

Many people said that £3.00 was their magazine price limit. Monthly
magazines tend to be more expensive than weekly ones as they contain more
content. I’m still debating the price of my magazine, but from this it will be no
more than £3.

Nearly everybody who answered this question goes to gigs and festivals, so this
will play a major part in my magazine. I will include, concert dates, concert
reviews, new and upcoming artists and ticket competitions etc.
9. What Bands/ Artists are you into?
As you can see everyone likes
different things so that’s why I’ve
decided that my magazine is going to
include a mixture of genres.

The most regularly used websites were Facebook and twitter. In my magazine I could
have a page of the best celebrity tweets that month or week. I wasn’t surprised at this
result as both twitter and Facebook are internationally used.

Many people wanted interviews more than anything in a music magazine. I
want to use all of these regulars and features in my magazine as it is what I
look for when reading them.
