Audience research

  1. 1. What genres of music do you usually listen to?121086420 From this bar graph we can see that the 3 most popular genres that the people I asked listened to were Pop, R&B and singer/songwriter. I wanted to ask this question to see how much music variety people listened to and what genre to base my music magazine around. I expected pop to be the most listened to as many young people like to keep up to date with new chart music. As every genre had at least one person choose it, I’ve decided that my music magazine will have a mixture of each of these genres.
  2. 2. How much do you spend on magazines per month?121086420 YES NO SOMETIMESI was quite shocked that some people spent up to £20 on magazines per month as Ididn’t realise there was such a large selection of music magazines. Most peoples limiton how much money would spend on a music magazine was £5 and £0. Most of themusic magazines around at the minute are either rock or indie/alternative, so maybea music magazine featuring all the genre types is what the music magazine marketneeds.
  3. 3. How often do you read magazines?1210 8 6 4 2 0 YES NO SOMETIMESI I expected people to read magazines very often, so I was quite shocked at these results. But I don’t read magazines very often myself. I read magazines when i have the time to, so I think many people my age are the same as we have homework to complete etc.. Also most music magazines such as Q and NME are quite expensive for what they are in my opinion, so some people might not be able to afford them.
  4. 4. Do you buy music magazines? 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 YES NO SOMETIMESThe majority of people who I asked said that they don’t buy music magazines, or theyonly do if they are interested in the artists that are featured in them. Some people saidthat they only buy celebrity based ones such as Heat or OK magazine. As people prefercelebrity gossip magazines, I want mine to be a mixture of both so that they can keep upwith the latest celebrity gossip and there favourite band or singer.
  5. 5. What type of model pose attracts you as a reader for a magazine? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 interviews Artists Horoscopes gossip As you can see the majority of people who answered this question said that eye contact straight at the reader attracted them to a magazine. This result has definitely helped me with how to pose my model on the front cover.
  6. 6. How much would you pay for a music magazine at the most? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 interviews Artists Horoscopes gossip new music tour dates dont knowMany people said that £3.00 was their magazine price limit. Monthlymagazines tend to be more expensive than weekly ones as they contain morecontent. I’m still debating the price of my magazine, but from this it will be nomore than £3.
  7. 7. Do you go to gigs and festivals? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 interviews ArtistsNearly everybody who answered this question goes to gigs and festivals, so thiswill play a major part in my magazine. I will include, concert dates, concertreviews, new and upcoming artists and ticket competitions etc.
  8. 8. What Bands/ Artists are you into?As you can see everyone likesdifferent things so that’s why I’vedecided that my magazine is going toinclude a mixture of genres.
  9. 9. What Websites do you regularly use? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0The most regularly used websites were Facebook and twitter. In my magazine I couldhave a page of the best celebrity tweets that month or week. I wasn’t surprised at thisresult as both twitter and Facebook are internationally used.
  10. 10. What do you look for in a music magazine? 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0Many people wanted interviews more than anything in a music magazine. Iwant to use all of these regulars and features in my magazine as it is what Ilook for when reading them.
