making of my horroMagazine making
1.
2. Name of the Magazine
We were given the option to
either use a existing film
magazine or make up our own.
We wanted to make our own as
we were creating an
independent horror film,
therefore we thought t would
be best to feature it in a new
and up and coming film
magazine. We rounded up five
fonts that appealed to us,
however we decided to go with
number four as it was simple
and classic. We also needed to
keep in mind that this was a
magazine that features all
genres of film so we had to
keep it relevant but not to
niche to a certain genre.
3. Once the final picture was chosen for our magazine cover, we used Adobe Fireworks
CS6 to start editing and creating a polished horror film poster. We chose this picture
because we thought it best conveyed Steve our main characters personality.
Original picture for magazine
4. Once we decided our title for our magazine, we next went onto placing the title on the
front cover. We wanted to see how it looked if the placement of the title was behind
our main characters head, making it feels as if he is coming out of the cover. We
thought this would be a very interesting technique and believed it suited the horror
genre too.
5. We wanted to change the colour of the title, this was something we saw when
researching different film magazines. At times magazines would change colours of their
titles to best fit the feel of the movie on their front cover. We did like the way the white
stood out against the black however we wanted to change it up, making it more horror
like and true to the film. We tried grey and red, and decided that red best suited the
look we were going for as well the genre of the film.
6. We added the name of our movie ‘Unnerved’ as it this imperative to the magazine and
audiences knowledge. We wanted to make sure it stayed connected to our poster,
therefore keeping the film title in white as well as creating synergy with all three
products. We added a tag line @this yeas best selling horror’ to promote the film as well
enable it to be seen as popular amongst critics and film goers.
7. We added surroundings
headings and sub headings to
make sure it still has the feel of
a magazine. Also allows
auiences to see what other
subjects n film will also be
featured in the magazine. As we
were promting a horror film on
this specific cover we thought it
would be benefical to add other
horrors which can be seen
under the heading ‘we have the
exclusive on’. We also added a
badgbe on the front cover.
‘40 new films’ emphasising that
this is a film magazine.
We also used this a promotion technique as our film is the one on the main cover.
Therefore making it stand out as the most important as we have made it the ‘world
exclusive’
