early career, the success from her career as one of the Queen's of soul and her personal accomplishments. Let's take a look at Aretha Franklin's
beginning and early career.
Aretha Franklin was born March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee; to Barbara and Clarence LaVaughn Franklin. Her mother was an accomplished
piano player and vocalist while her father was an itinerant preacher. Franklin's father sermons were so emotionally driven that he was known as "million

She began singing solo's at New Bethel Church. At the age of fourteen Aretha's talent for singing was recognized by her father, and he started
managing her shortly after, so he could get her a recording deal. She started off by going on the road with her father and singing at various
churches while he preached. This resulted in Aretha Franklin getting signed to her first record deal with J.V.B. Records Label. Her first studio
album was titled "Songs Of Faith". Although this did not put her on the map as the Queen of Soul. Aretha decided at the age of 18 that she wanted
to go in the direction of Sam Cooke and sing Pop music. It was not until she signed with the Columbia Records in 1960, that she had her first single

Benjamin Franklin Contributions
As one of our Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin helped set the path for our country, but he did much more than that in his life. He was a well
known writer, scientist, leader, and statesman, but he was also a well known womanizer. Most of all he was known for his passion for liberty and the
natural rights of people. Though he was the oldest, by a whole generation, of the Founding Fathers he was one of the most well–rounded and influential.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1706 to Abiah and Josiah Franklin. At the age of twelve his father began training
him to be a tallow chandler and a soap boiler to no avail. He was then sent to apprentice his older brother, James, in the making of a Boston
newspaper called the New England Courant. Franklin found interest in working at the print shop and in 1722, when James was jailed for printing
critical remarks on authorities, he published the paper on his own and decided that he was going to establish himself as a writer and printer
elsewhere. He left for Philadelphia, arriving in October of 1723, where he would begin his printing journey. Throughout his printing and writing
career he produced many hoaxes, such as witch trials, illegitimate children and mistresses of royalty, and war stories. He also wrote, in his almanac,
about a fictional character named Poor Richard who offered proverbs and sayings that showed Franklin's crude humor. Though he wrote mostly in his
earlier years of life, Franklin continued to write till the day he died. Among writing and printing, Franklin was also known for his scientific discoveries.
His most well known discovery was the way electricity flows with positive and negative forces, which resulted in his creation of the lightning rod. He
also pioneered ways of measuring heat absorption in regards with color, the conductivity of substances with heat, and discovering storms appearing in
the northeast are travelling from the southwest. Along with these discoveries he invented many gadgets that we still use today, bifocals, smokeless
chimneys, the Franklin stove, and the flexible metal catheter. He continued to help with scientific discoveries and research, even after he his most

Benjamin Franklin Reputation
Benjamin Franklin was a man of many different labels, some were desirable but some were detrimental. He was known for things such as the
creator of the lightning rod, the Franklin Stove, and also the Bifocals. People saw him as an essential politician and a leading activist in the
development of the Declaration of Independence, and U.S Constitution. But Franklin sorta had a history with women, he was known as being an
icon to attract the ladies back in that time period. It all started at a young age, and only increased over time. Benjamin Franklin's relationships with
women, his relationships with two different families, shaped him into the person he was and created his reputation. In today's society, social media
is used by almost everyone, there's many different type of apps where others can communicate with one another. By saying that, that means your
business is always out there for everyone to see. If this was in Benjamin Franklin's case, everyone would see how he was a man of many relationships
and affairs. Benjamin Franklin was married to his wife Deborah for over 40 years,

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." – Benjamin Franklin It was quotes like
this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of America during pre–Revolutionary times. Franklin was a Founding Father, an inventor, a scientist, a
polymath, a politician, a printer, and wore numerous other hats. He essentially changed the world's view of America, showing everyone that
Americans were not idle or unsuccessful, rather respected, appreciated, and intelligent. Three important aspects of Franklin's life were his
personal life, his scientific discoveries, and his impact on American history. Ben was the 15th child of 17, born in 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Growing up, Ben was never quite satisfied with his lack of activities and experience. Though he learned to read at an early age, at the age of 10 he
was pulled out of school to work full time at his father's store. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a printing shop. James
mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to Philadelphia in 1723. Soon after this, Franklin traveled to London to purchase
printing equipment, but ended up staying there for a couple years. He returned to Philadelphia in 1726 and opened his own printing shop. Upon his
return, he also married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Read, in 1730. Not long after his marriage, he became the publisher of his own newspaper:

Franklin Outsiders
Edward Said believes that intellectuals can be divided into two different classes, "insiders ("yea–sayers," "professionals") and outsiders ("nay–sayers,"
"amateurs")." (Paper Instructions) Ursula Franklin can be argued to belong in the later group since she has quite a few number of the characteristics
that Said used to describe what he calls the outsiders. The characteristics that Said mentioned includes how outsiders believe that there is are causes
behind how things are and how these things are changeable, not infinitely permanent as some people may believe. Franklin clearly possess the first
characteristic and this is shown so when Franklin talked in her lecture about how she does not simply accept the way things are and that nothing is
really god–given. She supported this claim by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Franklin 172) The division of labour was introduced and jobs were divided into smaller tasks that required little to no skills to complete. This
division resulted in a change in relations between people and certain losses in regards to autonomy as their decision making opportunities are taken
away from them and put into the hands of people like the managers. (Franklin 70) The other description Said gives us about outsiders is how they do
not see things as permanent and can be changed. Franklin shows this characteristic when she was talking about technology in her sixth lecture.
Technology, according to her, is not god–given and is liable to change to adapt with the time: there is no one set way of doing things and as times
past, there would be newer and more efficient ways of doing things. (Franklin 113) In addition, technology has become a lot more essential in society
and it is not surprising that the government has increased its role in promoting and supporting

There were many factors and events that led to the founding of the United States, and there were many historical figures that influenced those events.
Benjamin Franklin is a vital factor of the founding of the United States. A writer, inventor, politician, scientist, and diplomat, Benjamin Franklin was a
Founding Father of the United States. Franklin helped draft the Declaration of independence, and the US Constitution. Benjamin Franklin also wrote
many books, and published Poor Richards Almanac. Benjamin Franklin created many inventions including bifocals and organizing the first successful
library.
Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, which was then known as the Massachusetts Bay colony.
Benjamin Franklin's father was a soap and candle maker, and was born in England. Benjamin Franklin was his 15th and youngest son. Benjamin
Franklin stopped formal school at 10 years old to work full–time and his father's candle and soap shop. In 1725, Benjamin Franklin published his first
pamphlet. The pamphlet's name was "A dissertation upon Liberty and Necessity, Pleasure and Pain." The pamphlet said that humans lack free will and
are not morally responsible for their actions. Benjamin Franklin helped incorporate America's first lending library, the library company of Philadelphia,
in 1731. Benjamin Franklin later purchased the Pennsylvania Gazette newspaper from a former boss. In 1731 Benjamin Franklin join the freemasons

Benjamin Franklin Rationalism
The Man of Reason: Benjamin Franklin The rationalism movement was responsible for moving the colonists into a more educated time and pushed for
revolution, leading to the colonies to later become independent. Benjamin Franklin was one of the first well–known rationalists. As portrayed in an
excerpt of his work, The Autobiography,Benjamin Franklin represents the ideals of rationalism through his instinctive reasoning. Franklin uses pure
instinct to immediately adapt to Philadelphia as soon as he steps off of the boat. Looking around at the new town that was not familiar to him,
Franklin says "I knew no soul nor where to look for lodging" (Franklin 68). Now hungry, Franklin sees a boy with bread and remembers how he "had

When explaining his process of becoming more virtuous, he says "While my care was employed in guarding against one fault, I was often
surprised by another; habit took the advantage of inattention; inclination was sometimes too strong for reason" (Franklin 69). Franklin is able to step
back and analyze his daily tendencies, and decide if they are faults or not. He is now set above an everyday person, who normally does not analyze
everyday habits. Benjamin then went on to list thirteen virtues he will tackle and try to improve in order to live a better life for him and the people
around him. Thirteen virtues are a lot to face, and difficult all at once. But he is able to categorize them, and say "Temperance first, as it tends to
procure that coolness and clearness of the head, which is so necessary where constant vigilance was to be kept up, and guard maintained against
unremitting attraction of ancient habits, and force perpetual temptations" (Franklin 70). Franklin chose Temperance as the most important and urgent
virtue because it allows his head to be clearer. A clear head, to Franklin, is vital to making the right decisions to follow other virtues, ultimately
leading him to living a virtuous life. Franklin was able to conjure this plan entirely on his own. He wanted to improve life so he can live happier, not

Benjamin Franklin Contributions
Benjamin Franklin is known for his numerous contributions to society, science, and politics. His works have influenced both America and the entire
world so greatly that it's difficult to find something that wasn't influenced at least in part by him. He played a massive role in the revolution and the
development of the country, pushing for unity amongst the colonies, helping to establish a foundation for the country to build itself on, and holding
several political offices. He also was an exemplary citizen, having performed many services to society, which included founding many public
organizations, which in turn influenced many others to follow suit. As a result of Franklin's numerous contributions, he has earned many nicknames.
Some of his most prominent nicknames include "the first American" and "the Newton of electricity". Franklin influence on society is so strong that
many of the services we have today wouldn't have existed if it weren't for him. Through Franklin's assistance, the Union Fire Company was founded.
This very early volunteer fire department was created in order to bring attention to the need to implement better methods of dealing with fires. This
creation of this fire department inspired many others to establish additional fire departments. He is also known for founding the Pennsylvania Hospital,
the first public hospital in the country. Franklin also emphasized the importance of the education of youth. In order to promote this belief, he
co–founded the Academy of Philadelphia, now known as the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to this, he had also founded the Library Company of
Philadelphia. Franklin was determined to make books, which were very expensive at the time, available to the common person. In the years following
this, many other cities opened their own libraries. Another part of this endeavor was publishing the Poor Richard's Almanack, an incredibly popular
almanac that included, in addition to a calendar, weather forecasts, and other things a standard almanac would contain, small entertainments, such as
pieces of advice, puzzles, trivia, and more. He published his almanac using the alias of Richard Saunders, the "Poor Richard" in the title. This was one

The Autobiography Of Benjamin Franklin
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin has many things, but maybe more than anything else about Benjamin Franklin it
explains about him being a politician, and there is no more reason to look out for an unbiased autobiography from Franklin than from any other
politician. This Franklin is a persona, a conscious literary creation bestowed for our contention One of Franklin's virtues is humbleness, and his
humbleness comes out in the form of his book. His narrative is extremely informal, not only in the first part, which was seemingly addressed to his son,
however in the later sections the autobiography was controlled upon four separate occasions. The informal nature of the book exhibits Franklin's
intended humility, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In spite of the fact that Franklin was hardly a puritan, he was nevertheless very much a child of the Puritans. This is not displayed merely in his
promotion of the virtues, but in his abstaining from excessiveness in eating, drinking, conversation, or whatever. Franklin is strongly influenced with
self–governance In numerous ways, this is, to someone coming to it for the first time, a very amazing book. Franklin is, of course, one of the most
celebrated Americans who ever lived, and his credentials in a wide arrangement of endeavors are a part of American knowledge and popular history.
A great deal of this knowledge and numerous of his accomplishments are missing from this account of his life. He never finished the autobiography,
earlier in his life on account of the fact that he was too engaged with what he terms public employment's, and later in life by virtue of the opium he was
taking for kidney stones left him incapable to concentrate adequately. Had Franklin been able to write about every period of his life and all of his
achievements, his autobiography would have been one of the most exceptional and outstanding documents every produced. It is astonishingly
imperious. However, his record as an office–holder is stained by the use he made of his position to advance his relatives. He was one of the most
important statesmen in the new America and was a historical figure who shaped our nations history. He was a very

Benjamin Franklin Metaphors
One of America's founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, had an idea to share principles that anyone can use in everyday life to make themselves a
better and wiser person. Through the struggles that comes with everyday life, these key principles have so much meaning. Even though the world is
moving so fast around us, these principles stated by Franklin are great ones for anyone in today's society to follow. Ben Franklin was the oldest man
in the Philadelphia convention as well as the oldest man to have signed the Declaration of Independance. He played a major role in helping make
history in America. Among being actively involved in majorly everything, he was also involved in theAmerican Revolution as an inventor , an author

Franklin was not always wealthy– he started out as a member of the lower middle class and eventually with hard work rose to be one of the most
admirable men in America. When Franklin wrote his book "Poor Richard's Almanac," he displayed a set of twenty six metaphors that can be taken
as wise words for all to listen, see, and interperet. One of the aphorisms I have come to choose is "Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead."
(Franklin) This quote comes from the 1735 July issue of "Poor Richard's Almanac". This aphorism means that one person who shares a secret with two
others will slowly yet absolutely get around in one way, shape, or form. Another aphorism I have chosen is "Nothing brings more pain than too much
pleasure; nothing more bondage than too much liberty."(Franklin) This is yet another aphorism that was featured in the 1735 July issue of "Poor
Richard's Almanac". The meaning behind this aphorism is that you get what you get, and deserve nothing more nor less. Nothing brings more trouble
than having too much easiness and nothing has harsher consequences when there is a ton of freedom allowed. Lastly, I chose, "Love your neighbor,
yet don't pull down your hedge."(Franklin) This aphorism has a meaning stating that one cannot simply let their shield down, and must always protect

The Pennsylvania fireplace, sometimes called
the Franklin stove, acquired its name from
Franklin, its inventor. This device, he said,
"made my living room twice as warm as it used
to be with a quarter of the wood I formerly
consumed . . . " (Donovan 55). The heating of
houses was growing more expensive, the wood
was being used extremely inefficiently, and
much of the heat was lost up the chimney.
Franklin's fireplace solved these problems by
using a number of passages and vents so that
the cold air was drawn in from outside the
building, warmed in the air passages, and
then blown into the room. He said "your whole
room is equally warmed, so that the people
need not crowd so close round the fire, but
may sit near the window, and have the benefit
of the light for reading, writing, and
needlework. They may sit with comfort in any
part of the room, which is a very
considerable advantage in a large family,
where there must often be two fires kept,

considered the fireplace a luxury for the

Benjamin Franklin's autobiography starts off with him addressing it "Dear Son" and beginning with this history of his family. He traces it back to
three hundred years. His father and his wife settled in Boston along with Franklin and his siblings. Although Franklin is identified as intelligent it
was also known that he struggles in school(he is told he must take up a trade). He strongly disliked his father's trade and so he tried out a few
others before being apprenticed to his brother James, a printer. He enjoys this trade and spends his leisure time perfecting his own writing. James
and Franklin did not get along. So, Franklin and his friend John Collins run away to Philadelphia. There Franklin gets work with a printer, with
whom he has a pleasant enough relationship. Sir William Keith(the Governor of the province) was impressed by Franklin's work, and offers to help
Franklin convince his father that he should open his own shop. However, his father thinks he is too young and tells him he has to spend time working
hard for his trade. Franklin agreeing because he had no other choice and hopes in the near future to have his own shop. In the meantime, he has a

Franklin High School Sports Narrative
It was finally game day for us freshman. Winter break just finished about two weeks ago and we finally have a home game. This time it's against

focused and put myself in the right mindset for the upcoming. I couldn't have any distractions. Looking back, I was probably a little too serious. It
was necessary, though, if I wanted to have a good game. Once school finally ends, I get my basketball stuff and go straight to the locker room to
change. I put my uniform and sneakers on. I was Kobe getting ready for the first game of the 2010 NBA Finals against the Celtics. I was ready to

around before the game. I look around and all I see is an empty court. Just looking at the court fueled the excitement that I felt for this upcoming game.

Benjamin Franklin Influence
Perhaps, one of the most quotable men in the United States history is Benjamin Franklin. He was a visionary who coined multitudes of aphorisms
such as, "Have you something to do tomorrow? Do it today" and "Industry gives comfort and plenty and respect." However, his talent was not only
limited to his ability to make memorable phrases, he was also a pioneer in inventions from the stove to bifocals to the lighting rod. He is a man who
has become known as one of the founding fathers of the United States and who, to this day, graces our hundred dollar bills. Ironically enough, this man

He believed that uniting the colonies and England would lead to a stronger nation. Franklin was sure that having the crown, as a mother country, was
not an ailment but rather a powerful helping hand for the colonies. In fact, as he and the colonies grew in independence and self–sufficiency, Franklin
and other leaders drew up a proposal to ensure their voice in legislation without being free of the power of the English. He states, "By this plan the
general government was to be administered by a president–general, appointed and supported by the crown, a grand council was to be chosen by the
representative assemblies" (Franklin 102). However, the English rejected the idea and deemed it too "democratic" and although the proposal was
not approved, Franklin still held some levels of patriotism towards Britain. Keeping in mind the high regard he held England it is no wonder he
was more so inclined around the time of the Seven Years War to fight alongside the British. He was quick to come up with plans on defense and
was efficient in acquiring what was needed in terms of money and defense. He worked closed with Generals and Governors, and was an instrumental
part of the war. Franklin was sure to solidify his place as an American who was highly regarded by the English and in a sense might have been due to

Satire In Benjamin Franklin
Satire is the strongest tool of revealing the truth. But it becomes sharper in the hands of very clever people or genius such as Benjamin Franklin.
Taking into consideration literature analysis, satire is a very strong and sharp display of comic art, which is based on a humiliating rebuke of poetic
phenomena using different comic funds such as irony, sarcasm. Satire is both a literary genre and a particular technique that ridicules or condemns
individuals or society for having a lower standard of values, attitudes, and behavior. The satirist exposes popular views in order to bring about
intellectual or social reform (Rasenber).

And again his talent and knowledge helped him to achieve this aim. The substance behind the "Rules" was scarcely new. Franklin had, in more sober
fashion, made almost every point before. He touched hardly at all upon the constitutional issues that the Bostonians had set boiling, no doubt because
they were difficult to treat satirically; but he marshaled most of the other themes that were his stock in trade as a controversialist. Some related to the
colonies in general, some to Massachusetts in particular, and they ran the gamut from old trade restrictions and novel taxes to the oppression wrought
by the army and navy; the result was, as he said, comprehensive. These themes were so familiar from long reiteration that in their usual form they
might well have evoked no more than a shrug from the British public. By recasting them in the "out–of–the–way" form of satire he gave them a new

Someone that has influenced encouraged and contributed to the Revolutionary War and the United States of America, is none other than Benjamin
Franklin. Enough cannot be said about this man, I will touch on his early life, education, politics and his achievements. One of the most well–known
historical figures ever, Benjamin Franklin has greatly helped and contributed to American history. His creativeness and intelligence goes beyond
compare. He has invented and sacrificed much for this country especially during the Revolutionary War. Without him the world as a whole could not
be where it is today. Benjamin Franklin was born in a little house on Milk Street on January 17, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts. Benjamin Franklin's
parents were Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger. His father was a native to England; he married twice, and had 17 children. Franklin's father was a soap

Benjamin was the eighth of ten children of Josiah and Abiah. When Franklin was eight, his farther sent him to Boston Latin School. This public school

Benjamin Franklin Reputation
The essay will cover Benjamin Franklins reputation in modern society, his relationship with Catherine Ray Greene, his two families, and the
importance of cleaning up Franklin's reputation for posterity. Benjamin Franklin had quite a few women in his life. He had his wife, daughter, and
women he would pick up when traveling. He was intrigued by the stereotypes that were portrayed on the role of women in society. His women
ranged in age, but he advised those to choose older because older women are grateful. He was a supporter of equal education, but his reputation of
sleeping with multiple of them would be hard to clean up. Benjamin Franklin's reputation would not fair well in the modern world of social media.
There is no privacy. Although he had his theory of older women being more discreet about affairs, social media would make it harder for him to
keep his affairs a secret, but make it easier for him to find more women. The role of women in society and women stereotypes is different today than it
was back then. He was a supporter of equal education for men and women. Not long before his death, he submitted "The Left Hand." The Left Hand
was created to support education for young women and for them to grow up with other areas of education like reading, writing, and arithmetic, but still
took the traditional classes like spinning, knitting, and embroidery. Although he was supportive of the education of women and treated each relation as

a older man with spectacles propped up on his nose standing in a great room full of distinguished gentlemen signing the Declaration of Independence.
Both of these facts about Benjamin Franklin's life would be true. However, there was so much more to Mr. Franklin. He was a diplomat, a statesman,
a scientist, and a writer. His contributions to our society were more than just to America but to the world. For the purpose of this paper we will just
discuss the inventions he produced which had a world impact. (Fish 2).

This ingenious invention helped avert a natural disaster from occurring. Many people's lives changed once lightening rods appeared on church
steeples and tall buildings. It gave them a large sense of security. Prior to the installation of these lightening rods the homes, towns and cities were at
high risk for burning due to lighting strikes. It was unfortunately a common event. One fire could bring down half a town and cost many lives. Thanks
to Mr. Franklin, fires caused by lightning strikes were averted. The lightening rod was placed on buildings, homes and even boats (Morgan 13). His
invention actually saved lives of people and saved an unmeasurable amount of money. Franklin's design of the lightening rod remains the basis of
modern lightening codes up to today.
Sometime in 1784 Benjamin Franklin was traveling from one location to another. He loved to read while he was traveling. One day he noticed that he
was quite inconvenienced every time he had to switch from his reading glasses to his other glasses and every time he wanted looked up at the scenery
outside the window (Isaacson 426). He then decided to see his optician. He told his optician to cut out a half section of glass from his eyeglasses he
used to see in the distance and then to cut a half section from his eyeglasses to see close up. He then combined the two half lenses together in one
eyeglass. He wanted the farsighted section to be on top

The Characteristics Of Rosalind Franklin
2. To what extent did the personalities of each of the three scientists affect the way in which they did their research? (10)
Rosalind Franklin.
Rosalind Franklin was a very independent woman, and was very stubborn. This led her to be a loner in her scientific research. She had some close
friends in Paris especially, but she did not form the argumentative relationships and did not benefit from the constructive criticism that James Watson
and Francis Crick could. (Robinson A, 2012)
Franklin was intelligent, assertive, and directly confrontational, which made it difficult for her to work with other scientists should they make mistakes
or be slower than her in finding solutions. This was one of the reasons why her relationship with Maurice Wilkins deteriorated at King's – she was
highly critical and he was shy and submissive. (Elkin L, 2009)

How did the structure of DNA identified by Watson and Crick differ from the model previously? Do you think Rosalind Franklin received enough
acknowledgement for her work from Watson and Crick? Give reasons for your answer. (5)
Linus Pauling proposed a structure of DNA before Watson and Crick, in 1952. He suggested that the structure of DNA was a three chain helix, bonded
with hydrogen bonds. His model had placed the sugar and phosphate components of the nucleotide in the centre of the triple helix. He also believed that
the nitrogenous bases were facing out of the helix and not inside. (Paulingblog.wordpress.com, 2009) The problem with this model however, was that it
was impossible to have so many negatively charged phosphates in the centre of the helix without it blowing itself apart. (Paulingblog,wordpress.com,
2009)
The Watson and Crick model of the structure of DNA differed from this in the sense that it was a double helix, the nitrogenous bases were on the
inside of the helix and the phosphate and sugar groups were on the outside of the helix. These were all bonded with hydrogen bonds. (Biography.com,

"Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated"; this seemingly simple statement is found in a letter written by Rosalind Franklin to her
father. Over seventy years after this declaration was made, an abundance of people have proven its truth and unknowingly use this statement to
influence their education and life. Although Rosalind Franklin underwent various trials throughout her life, generational research can attend that her
persistence made her into the brilliant chemist that is still remembered today. Rosalind Franklin's most recognized piece of work is her important
contributions in understanding the structure of DNA, a remarkable discovery considering her unexpectedly short lifespan. When looking at the impact

This opportunity made Norrish particularly unhappy and pessimistic, and because of which it, it can be easily assumed that the work environment
became dreadful, and therefore Rosalind left the lab within a year. Even though Rosalind had a poor start to her scientific career, she continued to
pursue her passion; her direction of work slightly altered as her second job focused on helping the soldiers at war. Rosalind joined the Coal
Utilization Research Association and was assigned to explore in great detail the density and porous nature of coal, more specifically, Rosalind
focused on the micropores which were found at a molecular scale. It was during this time that people began fearing this war would be like the First
World War in the sense of the rapidly–spreading poisonous gas. Therefore, research into coal as filters for gas masks was urgent. This complex
research proved to be valuable for her following work positions which dealt with more microstructures. Cambridge University awarded Rosalind a
Doctorate based on her substantial research in this field of Physical Chemistry. Two years after receiving her Doctorate she moved to Paris where she
found a job using X–ray diffraction; this was generally used to determine the structure of crystal structures, but use began to explore the shape of
structure–less molecules. In 1950 she was invited to build an X–ray diffraction laboratory at King's College and because of her expertise gained over
the years, Rosalind was the lead researcher for specific X–ray efforts. When Maurice Wilkins returned to his laboratory he immediately assumed that
she was hired as an assistant to him. Both Wilkins and Rosalind started off on the wrong foot yet both researched DNA, but did not collaborate with
their efforts. Franklin quickly learned of the drastic gender differences when she was instructed to eat in a

cultural differences in writing has changed since the 18th century one can learn a lot about one of America's greatest forefathers through this book. It
accounts for Franklin's life when he was born January 17th, 1706 till the year 1757. Unfortunately, he died in 1790 and was never able to finish his

Franklin may have started at the bottom but he soon worked his way to the top. He had many jobs in his lifetime. Helping his father in his candle
shop was one of Franklin's first jobs. However, he became bored with his work at his father's candle shop and soon moved to Philadelphia. Upon
arriving to Philadelphia Franklin began working as a printer assistant. It did not last long though and soon he was looking for another job. This is when
Benjamin Franklin began to work for the Pennsylvania Gazette, an extensive newspaper. He soon sold the paper though to venture into other
endeavors. Benjamin Franklin was an inventor, printers assistant, politician, scientist as well as other things.
Franklin also played the harp, violin, and guitar which expresses his great love for music and his love for learning. Benjamin cared that young people

even went to France for their help in wars. In 1766 he was sent before the House of Commons regarding the Stamp Act, Ben was thought to be behind
the idea. It was there that testimony repealed the stamp act. Not only did he rewrite the declaration of independence, but he also drew up the U.S.
constitution. We have Ben Franklin to thank for our independence in what we call America.
Before he was a politician, Ben Franklin was also an inventor. When people think of his inventions, the first thing that usually comes to mind is
electricity. However, he did much more. For example, in colonial America, most people warmed their homes by building a fire in a fireplace even
though it was kind of dangerous and used a lot of wood. Ben figured that there had to be a better way. His invention of an iron furnace stove allowed
people to warm their homes less dangerously and with less wood. The furnace stove that he invented is called a Franklin stove. Interestingly enough,
Ben also established the first fire company and the first fire insurance company in order to help people live more safely. Another great invention was
the bifocals. Ben had poor vision and needed glasses to read.

bring money into the city, and he chartered a university that is name after him today, called the University ofPennsylvania.
Franklin's print shop had made him a wealthy man, and in 1748 the success of the print shop had allowed Franklin to retire early. Franklin could now
use his time to focus on his two other favorite things: science and politics.
Soon after his retirement Franklin became extremely interested in experimenting with electricity. Franklin was one of the first people to suggest that
lightning was merely naturally occurring electricity, and that it could be drawn from the clouds. In 1752, Ben Franklin performed his kite experiment.
Here Franklin had his proof of lightning's electrical nature. Franklin wrote specifics on how the experiment was to be done, it said.
This kite is to be raised when a thunder–gust appears to be coming on, and the person who holds the string must stand within a door or window, or
under some cover, so that the silk ribbon may not be wet; and care must be taken that the twine does not touch the frame of the door or window. As
soon as any of the thunder–clouds come over the kite, the pointed wire will draw electric fire from them, and the kite, with all the twine, will be
electrified, and the loose filaments of the twine will

credited properly, such in the case of Rosalind Franklin, whose photograph "51" evolved the fields of science, medicine and more. Rosalind
Franklin was born in London, England in 1920 to a wealthy Jewish family. Though, her family valued education and public service, some sources
say that her father did not believe in university education for women. Nevertheless, Franklin enrolled at Newnham Women's College at Cambridge

Who was Benjamin Franklin? Probably not quite who we think he was. Yes, he was one of the "Founding Fathers," the only one who put his name to
all three of the founding documents of the United States: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the
Constitution under which we still live. He may have become famous for his many sayings in praise of being industrious and frugal in one's calling,
but he left his own calling as a printer and retired from business at the age of forty–two to become what he spoke crudely of for years, a gentleman.
Once retired, he devoted the rest of his life to public service, but the most important services he performed at the public's demand were not quite what

James had just returned from England to set up as a printer in Boston. After realizing Franklin's talents, James had him sign an unusually long nine
year contract. While working for his brother, Franklin read anything he could get his hands on. He had such a hunger for knowledge that he even
made friends with apprentices of booksellers to gain more access to more books. Franklin attempted to write poetry but was not satisfied with the
outcome or quality of his work, so therefore read Joseph Addison and Richard Steele's Spectator papers to not only improve his writing but to polish it.
In reading these Franklin learned the concepts of "prose writing" and attempted to master it. Writing competently was such a rare skill that anyone who
could do it well immediately acquired importance. All of the founding fathers achieved their first reputations through something they wrote. In 1721,
James decided to establish his own paper named the New England Courant. Unlike the other three newspapers established in Boston, James' newspaper
actually argued many political views. Franklin sent in many essays to his brother portraying a middle–aged woman under the name of Silence Dogood.
He brought up many controversial issues such as schooling at Harvard. Once James finally figured out that Silence Dogood was no one other than his
own sixteen year old brother he took on the role of the "Master and Apprentice." From that point on

Critical Analysis Of The Franklin Series By Paulette...
Critical analysis of the Franklin series by Paulette Bourgeois A children's story is the first step a child is introduced to in terms of reading and
literature. These books give children enjoyment, develops their feeling and imagination. And it might also help children resolve problems by creatively
portraying the issue in the book and also by teaching how to deal with it in an entertaining way. For example in Franklin Fibs, Paulette Bourgeois
innovatively explains how lying can be bad and how it can impact a child. This probably teaches the child moral values and also entertains them.
Getting a child to sit through an entire book is a hard task. Since children are known to be fidgety and playful. To get the child's attention Paulette
Bourgeois uses rhyme scheme and words which are simple. Eg. In Finders keepers for Franklin "Franklin can count by twos and tie his shoes".
These makes children like them and enjoy them. Brenda Clark the illustrator of the Franklin series uses colors which "pop" and are vivid to get a
child's attention. The colors which are used in the Franklin series are bright red, green, and yellow and so on. From this one can conclude that Clark
uses colors which are bright and signify happiness avoiding colors like black which are gloomy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When most people think of Benjamin Franklin, they tend to think of "that guy who discovered electricity", or "one of the many founding fathers".
While both of those statements are correct, Franklin's skills and contributions to the country were much, much more than that. As an author, inventor,
civic activist, diplomat, printer, and more, Franklin definitely fits the role of a founding father. With such a wide variety of skills, Franklin's
contributions in his many fields were needed for developing the colonies and building a foundation for America. While Franklin was great at many
things, he was, most importantly, human. Originally trying to live the American Dream himself, Franklin set off at a very young age to try to start a
life of his own. Before he became more popular, Franklin was most notable for his skills in reading in writing. He was born in Massachusetts in 1706.
While growing up, he was a self–taught literary fanatic, reading many books in his free time. It's perhaps his penchant for reading that allowed him to
go where he did and achieve what he could. Franklin first experimented with fictional writing with the book Pamela, though such endeavours were not
successful. He later printed the bible, which was a risky move, as it was prohibited for anyone except the king's press to do so. But, Franklin's first
success in printing was becoming a partner of the Pennsylvania Gazette in seventeen twenty nine. Under an alias, Franklin used the gazette to publish

American colonies. Historically, Ben Franklin was in favor of self–government.
In fact, nearly forty years of service as a public official began when Franklin was elected for the Pennsylvania Assembly. At first, he wanted to get

Further, as the legislature strategist and writer for the weakly formed Quaker party, "he defended the powers of the elected representatives of the

Further, Benjamin Franklin's political views with regard to various
British taxation upon the colonists show him leaning away from Britain. The
Townshend Acts, Stamp Act, and other taxes and duties on colonial goods were opposed by Franklin. He wrote in connection with the American Stamp
Acts, "The
Sovereignty of the British Legislature out of Britain, I do not understand."
(Wright, page 207). Franklin felt that the colonies were capable of writing their own legislation. The colonies had their own parliaments and Franklin
was confidant that these assemblies could properly legislate for the colony. In one of Franklin's letters he writes that possibly an extreme case would

The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin's life made a huge impact on the history of America. He also was an influence for many
citizens. Since Franklin lived during the eighteenth century, a period of growth for America, he also played a part in the political founding of the
United States. To help future generations, Franklin wrote an autobiography of his life. An autobiography is a piece of literature about someone's own
life. He separates his into four parts, each one depicting a different phase of his life. In The Autobiography by Benjamin Franklin, the author uses his
life events to describe values and ways of life that every man should believe and follow. In part one, Franklin examines his adolescent years. ... Show

Many people looked up to him, and this is one of the reasons he wrote his autobiography. Part two specifically shows how Franklin was an
enlightened man and dives into major detail about his morals and his path to moral perfection. Parts three and four are the business portions of
The Autobiography. Part three, the longest of the four sections, began in 1788. This portion "marks a gradual change in focus from personal
anecdotes and advice on virtue to a comparatively dry rendering of his public activities and Philadelphia's political concerns" (Moss and Wilson
26). His change in topic, however, is not all boring. He describes his success in his everyday life. For example, Franklin discusses his jobs and,
more in depth, the part he played in the French and Indian War. He also briefly talks about his inventions and experiments with electricity. All of
his involvements back up the belief of his being a man of the Enlightenment period. He strived to succeed and never settled for less. This is evident
in part four of The Autobiography. Franklin discusses his travels to England, where he acts as a financial advisor (Moss and Wilson 26). Benjamin
Franklin's work The Autobiography uses his life experiences to show the model life and beliefs every man should live by. Franklin wrote his
autobiography to give a model to live by for his son and future generations.

  • 1. Aretha Franklin Accomplishments When you hear the name Aretha Franklin what do you think? The woman of soul music, I hope! Not only did Aretha have a successful career, but she was able to maintain her personal life and accomplish what she wanted to. We are going to look at Aretha Franklin starting with her beginning and early career, the success from her career as one of the Queen's of soul and her personal accomplishments. Let's take a look at Aretha Franklin's beginning and early career. Aretha Franklin was born March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee; to Barbara and Clarence LaVaughn Franklin. Her mother was an accomplished piano player and vocalist while her father was an itinerant preacher. Franklin's father sermons were so emotionally driven that he was known as "million ... At the age of fourteen Aretha's talent for singing was recognized by her father, and he started managing her shortly after, so he could get her a recording deal. She started off by going on the road with her father and singing at various churches while he preached. This resulted in Aretha Franklin getting signed to her first record deal with J.V.B. Records Label. Her first studio album was titled "Songs Of Faith". Although this did not put her on the map as the Queen of Soul. Aretha decided at the age of 18 that she wanted to go in the direction of Sam Cooke and sing Pop music. It was not until she signed with the Columbia Records in 1960, that she had her first single chart the Billboard on the Hot 100 with her song "Won't Be Long" off her first pop studio album Aretha: With the Ray Bryant Combo. With her talent Franklin was able to record in diverse genres such as vocal jazz, blues, standards, rhythm and blues and doo–wop. • 2. Benjamin Franklin Contributions As one of our Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin helped set the path for our country, but he did much more than that in his life. He was a well known writer, scientist, leader, and statesman, but he was also a well known womanizer. Most of all he was known for his passion for liberty and the natural rights of people. Though he was the oldest, by a whole generation, of the Founding Fathers he was one of the most well–rounded and influential. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1706 to Abiah and Josiah Franklin. At the age of twelve his father began training him to be a tallow chandler and a soap boiler to no avail. He was then sent to apprentice his older brother, James, in the making of a Boston newspaper called the New England Courant. Franklin found interest in working at the print shop and in 1722, when James was jailed for printing critical remarks on authorities, he published the paper on his own and decided that he was going to establish himself as a writer and printer elsewhere. He left for Philadelphia, arriving in October of 1723, where he would begin his printing journey. Throughout his printing and writing career he produced many hoaxes, such as witch trials, illegitimate children and mistresses of royalty, and war stories. He also wrote, in his almanac, about a fictional character named Poor Richard who offered proverbs and sayings that showed Franklin's crude humor. Though he wrote mostly in his earlier years of life, Franklin continued to write till the day he died. Among writing and printing, Franklin was also known for his scientific discoveries. His most well known discovery was the way electricity flows with positive and negative forces, which resulted in his creation of the lightning rod. He also pioneered ways of measuring heat absorption in regards with color, the conductivity of substances with heat, and discovering storms appearing in the northeast are travelling from the southwest. Along with these discoveries he invented many gadgets that we still use today, bifocals, smokeless chimneys, the Franklin stove, and the flexible metal catheter. He continued to help with scientific discoveries and research, even after he his most famous accomplishments. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Benjamin Franklin Reputation Benjamin Franklin was a man of many different labels, some were desirable but some were detrimental. He was known for things such as the creator of the lightning rod, the Franklin Stove, and also the Bifocals. People saw him as an essential politician and a leading activist in the development of the Declaration of Independence, and U.S Constitution. But Franklin sorta had a history with women, he was known as being an icon to attract the ladies back in that time period. It all started at a young age, and only increased over time. Benjamin Franklin's relationships with women, his relationships with two different families, shaped him into the person he was and created his reputation. In today's society, social media is used by almost everyone, there's many different type of apps where others can communicate with one another. By saying that, that means your business is always out there for everyone to see. If this was in Benjamin Franklin's case, everyone would see how he was a man of many relationships and affairs. • 4. Benjamin Franklin Contributions "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." – Benjamin Franklin It was quotes like this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of America during pre–Revolutionary times. Franklin was a Founding Father, an inventor, a scientist, a polymath, a politician, a printer, and wore numerous other hats. He essentially changed the world's view of America, showing everyone that Americans were not idle or unsuccessful, rather respected, appreciated, and intelligent. Three important aspects of Franklin's life were his personal life, his scientific discoveries, and his impact on American history. Ben was the 15th child of 17, born in 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up, Ben was never quite satisfied with his lack of activities and experience. Though he learned to read at an early age, at the age of 10 he was pulled out of school to work full time at his father's store. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a printing shop. James mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to Philadelphia in 1723. Soon after this, Franklin traveled to London to purchase printing equipment, but ended up staying there for a couple years. He returned to Philadelphia in 1726 and opened his own printing shop. Upon his return, he also married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Read, in 1730. Not long after his marriage, he became the publisher of his own newspaper: The Pennsylvania ... • 5. Franklin Outsiders Edward Said believes that intellectuals can be divided into two different classes, "insiders ("yea–sayers," "professionals") and outsiders ("nay–sayers," "amateurs")." (Paper Instructions) Ursula Franklin can be argued to belong in the later group since she has quite a few number of the characteristics that Said used to describe what he calls the outsiders. The characteristics that Said mentioned includes how outsiders believe that there is are causes behind how things are and how these things are changeable, not infinitely permanent as some people may believe. Franklin clearly possess the first characteristic and this is shown so when Franklin talked in her lecture about how she does not simply accept the way things are and that nothing is really god–given. She supported this claim by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Franklin 172) The division of labour was introduced and jobs were divided into smaller tasks that required little to no skills to complete. This division resulted in a change in relations between people and certain losses in regards to autonomy as their decision making opportunities are taken away from them and put into the hands of people like the managers. (Franklin 70) The other description Said gives us about outsiders is how they do not see things as permanent and can be changed. Franklin shows this characteristic when she was talking about technology in her sixth lecture. Technology, according to her, is not god–given and is liable to change to adapt with the time: there is no one set way of doing things and as times past, there would be newer and more efficient ways of doing things. (Franklin 113) In addition, technology has become a lot more essential in society and it is not surprising that the government has increased its role in promoting and supporting ... • 7. Benjamin Franklin Rationalism The Man of Reason: Benjamin Franklin The rationalism movement was responsible for moving the colonists into a more educated time and pushed for revolution, leading to the colonies to later become independent. Benjamin Franklin was one of the first well–known rationalists. As portrayed in an excerpt of his work, The Autobiography,Benjamin Franklin represents the ideals of rationalism through his instinctive reasoning. Franklin uses pure instinct to immediately adapt to Philadelphia as soon as he steps off of the boat. Looking around at the new town that was not familiar to him, Franklin says "I knew no soul nor where to look for lodging" (Franklin 68). Now hungry, Franklin sees a boy with bread and remembers how he "had made many a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When explaining his process of becoming more virtuous, he says "While my care was employed in guarding against one fault, I was often surprised by another; habit took the advantage of inattention; inclination was sometimes too strong for reason" (Franklin 69). Franklin is able to step back and analyze his daily tendencies, and decide if they are faults or not. He is now set above an everyday person, who normally does not analyze everyday habits. Benjamin then went on to list thirteen virtues he will tackle and try to improve in order to live a better life for him and the people around him. Thirteen virtues are a lot to face, and difficult all at once. But he is able to categorize them, and say "Temperance first, as it tends to procure that coolness and clearness of the head, which is so necessary where constant vigilance was to be kept up, and guard maintained against unremitting attraction of ancient habits, and force perpetual temptations" (Franklin 70). Franklin chose Temperance as the most important and urgent virtue because it allows his head to be clearer. A clear head, to Franklin, is vital to making the right decisions to follow other virtues, ultimately leading him to living a virtuous life. Franklin was able to conjure this plan entirely on his own. He wanted to improve life so he can live happier, not to please ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Benjamin Franklin Contributions Benjamin Franklin is known for his numerous contributions to society, science, and politics. His works have influenced both America and the entire world so greatly that it's difficult to find something that wasn't influenced at least in part by him. He played a massive role in the revolution and the development of the country, pushing for unity amongst the colonies, helping to establish a foundation for the country to build itself on, and holding several political offices. He also was an exemplary citizen, having performed many services to society, which included founding many public organizations, which in turn influenced many others to follow suit. As a result of Franklin's numerous contributions, he has earned many nicknames. Some of his most prominent nicknames include "the first American" and "the Newton of electricity". Franklin influence on society is so strong that many of the services we have today wouldn't have existed if it weren't for him. Through Franklin's assistance, the Union Fire Company was founded. This very early volunteer fire department was created in order to bring attention to the need to implement better methods of dealing with fires. This creation of this fire department inspired many others to establish additional fire departments. He is also known for founding the Pennsylvania Hospital, the first public hospital in the country. Franklin also emphasized the importance of the education of youth. In order to promote this belief, he co–founded the Academy of Philadelphia, now known as the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to this, he had also founded the Library Company of Philadelphia. Franklin was determined to make books, which were very expensive at the time, available to the common person. In the years following this, many other cities opened their own libraries. Another part of this endeavor was publishing the Poor Richard's Almanack, an incredibly popular almanac that included, in addition to a calendar, weather forecasts, and other things a standard almanac would contain, small entertainments, such as pieces of advice, puzzles, trivia, and more. He published his almanac using the alias of Richard Saunders, the "Poor Richard" in the title. This was one of Franklin's most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Autobiography Of Benjamin Franklin The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin has many things, but maybe more than anything else about Benjamin Franklin it explains about him being a politician, and there is no more reason to look out for an unbiased autobiography from Franklin than from any other politician. This Franklin is a persona, a conscious literary creation bestowed for our contention One of Franklin's virtues is humbleness, and his humbleness comes out in the form of his book. His narrative is extremely informal, not only in the first part, which was seemingly addressed to his son, however in the later sections the autobiography was controlled upon four separate occasions. The informal nature of the book exhibits Franklin's intended humility, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of the fact that Franklin was hardly a puritan, he was nevertheless very much a child of the Puritans. Franklin is strongly influenced with self–governance In numerous ways, this is, to someone coming to it for the first time, a very amazing book. Franklin is, of course, one of the most celebrated Americans who ever lived, and his credentials in a wide arrangement of endeavors are a part of American knowledge and popular history. A great deal of this knowledge and numerous of his accomplishments are missing from this account of his life. Franklin was not always wealthy– he started out as a member of the lower middle class and eventually with hard work rose to be one of the most admirable men in America. When Franklin wrote his book "Poor Richard's Almanac," he displayed a set of twenty six metaphors that can be taken as wise words for all to listen, see, and interperet. One of the aphorisms I have come to choose is "Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead." (Franklin) This quote comes from the 1735 July issue of "Poor Richard's Almanac". This aphorism means that one person who shares a secret with two others will slowly yet absolutely get around in one way, shape, or form. Another aphorism I have chosen is "Nothing brings more pain than too much pleasure; nothing more bondage than too much liberty."(Franklin) This is yet another aphorism that was featured in the 1735 July issue of "Poor Richard's Almanac". The meaning behind this aphorism is that you get what you get, and deserve nothing more nor less. Nothing brings more trouble than having too much easiness and nothing has harsher consequences when there is a ton of freedom allowed. Rosalind Franklin was a very independent woman, and was very stubborn. This led her to be a loner in her scientific research. She had some close friends in Paris especially, but she did not form the argumentative relationships and did not benefit from the constructive criticism that James Watson and Francis Crick could. (Robinson A, 2012) Franklin was intelligent, assertive, and directly confrontational, which made it difficult for her to work with other scientists should they make mistakes or be slower than her in finding solutions. His model had placed the sugar and phosphate components of the nucleotide in the centre of the triple helix. He also believed that the nitrogenous bases were facing out of the helix and not inside. (Paulingblog.wordpress.com, 2009) The problem with this model however, was that it was impossible to have so many negatively charged phosphates in the centre of the helix without it blowing itself apart. (Paulingblog,wordpress.com, 2009) The Watson and Crick model of the structure of DNA differed from this in the sense that it was a double helix, the nitrogenous bases were on the inside of the helix and the phosphate and sugar groups were on the outside of the helix. Rosalind joined the Coal Utilization Research Association and was assigned to explore in great detail the density and porous nature of coal, more specifically, Rosalind focused on the micropores which were found at a molecular scale. It was during this time that people began fearing this war would be like the First World War in the sense of the rapidly–spreading poisonous gas. Therefore, research into coal as filters for gas masks was urgent. This complex research proved to be valuable for her following work positions which dealt with more microstructures. Cambridge University awarded Rosalind a Doctorate based on her substantial research in this field of Physical Chemistry. Two years after receiving her Doctorate she moved to Paris where she found a job using X–ray diffraction; this was generally used to determine the structure of crystal structures, but use began to explore the shape of structure–less molecules. Franklin's print shop had made him a wealthy man, and in 1748 the success of the print shop had allowed Franklin to retire early. Franklin could now use his time to focus on his two other favorite things: science and politics. Soon after his retirement Franklin became extremely interested in experimenting with electricity. Franklin was one of the first people to suggest that lightning was merely naturally occurring electricity, and that it could be drawn from the clouds. In 1752, Ben Franklin performed his kite experiment. Here Franklin had his proof of lightning's electrical nature. Franklin wrote specifics on how the experiment was to be done, it said. This kite is to be raised when a thunder–gust appears to be coming on, and the person who holds the string must stand within a door or window, or under some cover, so that the silk ribbon may not be wet; and care must be taken that the twine does not touch the frame of the door or window. As soon as any of the thunder–clouds come over the kite, the pointed wire will draw electric fire from them, and the kite, with all the twine, will be electrified, and the loose filaments of the twine will ... • 34. Benjamin Franklin Essay Who was Benjamin Franklin? Probably not quite who we think he was. Yes, he was one of the "Founding Fathers," the only one who put his name to all three of the founding documents of the United States: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the Constitution under which we still live. He may have become famous for his many sayings in praise of being industrious and frugal in one's calling, but he left his own calling as a printer and retired from business at the age of forty–two to become what he spoke crudely of for years, a gentleman. Once retired, he devoted the rest of his life to public service, but the most important services he performed at the public's demand were not quite what he thought the... After realizing Franklin's talents, James had him sign an unusually long nine year contract. While working for his brother, Franklin read anything he could get his hands on. He had such a hunger for knowledge that he even made friends with apprentices of booksellers to gain more access to more books. Franklin attempted to write poetry but was not satisfied with the outcome or quality of his work, so therefore read Joseph Addison and Richard Steele's Spectator papers to not only improve his writing but to polish it. In reading these Franklin learned the concepts of "prose writing" and attempted to master it. Writing competently was such a rare skill that anyone who could do it well immediately acquired importance. All of the founding fathers achieved their first reputations through something they wrote. In 1721, James decided to establish his own paper named the New England Courant. Unlike the other three newspapers established in Boston, James' newspaper actually argued many political views. Franklin sent in many essays to his brother portraying a middle–aged woman under the name of Silence Dogood. He brought up many controversial issues such as schooling at Harvard. Once James finally figured out that Silence Dogood was no one other than his own sixteen year old brother he took on the role of the "Master and Apprentice." From that point on ... And it might also help children resolve problems by creatively portraying the issue in the book and also by teaching how to deal with it in an entertaining way. Getting a child to sit through an entire book is a hard task. Since children are known to be fidgety and playful. The Townshend Acts, Stamp Act, and other taxes and duties on colonial goods were opposed by Franklin. He wrote in connection with the American Stamp Acts, "The Sovereignty of the British Legislature out of Britain, I do not understand." (Wright, page 207). Franklin felt that the colonies were capable of writing their own legislation. The colonies had their own parliaments and Franklin was confidant that these assemblies could properly legislate for the colony.
