ALLOWS USING TAPE RECORDER
TO DICTATE WRITING.
Tape Recorder used as teaching strategies/ teaching aid.
A tape recorderis an audio
storage device that records and
plays back sounds, including
articulated voices, usually
using magnetic tape, either wound
on a reel or in a cassette, for
storage.Who would have thought
this device would be used not only
for musical purposes but also as a
teaching aid.
Studies have shown that some students do not have a
long attention span in the classroom.Tapes in the
classroom enable teachers to constantly shift the
attention of the students and hopefully work with the
students' short attention spans.Tapes also allow
teachers to take a backseat and not be the focus of the
lesson.Whether using prerecorded activities or
recordings in the classroom, tapes provide teachers a
long and varied list of activities for their classroom.The
tapes can even be used in a school or classroom time
capsule. Recorded stories are especially beneficial in
younger classrooms to help students read.
The tape-recorder has come to be an invaluable aid
to the learner and teacher, and after
the blackboard, is probably most commonly
used pieces of equipment in the classroom. So far,
all the activities we have mentioned have used the
tape-recorder for playing back previously recorded
material. Another frequently neglected use of the
tape-recorder is for making recordings in the
classroom, particularly of the students themselves.
The teacher can record the students during a
discussion etc., and can thus diagnose problem
areas more easily.
A very motivating activity for students is to let then
write and record their own dialogues. You could
also record students telling a story. Later on the
story could be written in good English and the text
could be used for reading practice.
The teachers useTape Recorders as a teaching aid
for students who are more relying on auditory.
On Special Education, Tape Recorders are also used
by theVisually Impaired students especially the low
Vision students. Since they are more relying on their
auditory, it is more advisable for them to use tape
recorder to be able for them to cope up with their
lesson.
Again, there are two types of recorders to consider:
one that the students can borrow and one that stays
in the classroom. A classroom tape recorder should
have a loudspeaker. Tape recorders for student use
should resemble a cassette tape Walkman, light and
cheap. Example, if the low-visioned student is
mainstreamed in a regular class and he knew that he
can’t possibly follow the writings on the board, he
can use an alternative way to cope up to the
discussion with the use of Tape Recorder. After the
class, he can listen to it all over again.
For the MR/MC, to get their attention
especially when identifying the sound of
the objects, animals, and etc., he can listen
over a tape recorder and with the help of
the teacher, he can identify the name of the
object.
They can experience learning in a
fresh way such as using the tape recorder as
a teaching aid and they can also enjoy
listening to the sound on the tape recorder.
Generally, digital recorders have surpassed tape
recorders in popularity. However, in the
classroom, teachers should use tape recorders
because they are much less expensive than
digital recorders.This way, teachers can feel
comfortable allowing students to borrow
recorders when necessary.There are two types
of recorders to consider: one that the students
can borrow and one that stays in the classroom.
