Solar Power Essay
Solar Power: An Alternative Energy Source
Since first discovered in the 1860s, the concept of storing energy from the sun to use as a source of power has been studied and pursued by many
programs. Either using solar collectors or photovoltaic cells, the methods of using solar power are becoming more efficient and cost–effective. Solar
technology is currently being used by homes and businesses, but is still too expensive and risky for many residents. Researchers are still making
advances to solar technology for it to be a feasible energy source in the future.
Solar energy was first started in the 1860s when Auguste Mouchout and William Adams found a way for storing solar radiation into tanks of water.
Since then, there have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because silicon cells are only semi–conductive, it is harder to generate an electrical current, and therefore require collective grids to transfer electrons
through a series of thin wires. Although collective grids are the
Solar Power 3 most efficient way of solving conductive issues, it is expensive to produce. Instead, photolithography is used to attach the metal grid
to the cell. After the development of PV cells in the 1940s, little progress was made for the next few years because of its expensive cost. However,
it was used in the space industry in the 1950s and 60s. Now, with nanotechnology and other improvements, there is possibility for cheaper and more
efficient production. Finally, there are uses of solar furnaces to collect solar energy in a small area by reflecting the heat using mirrors. An example
of this is a solar furnace in Odellio, France that has the ability to heat up to 33,000 degrees Celsius (Darvill, 2007, para. 11).
Experiments with Solar Power Plants:
The Mojave Desert is an ideal place for solar power plants since it is so insolated and has more sunlight than most areas of the United States. The
Solar Energy Generating Systems were nine trough power plants built in 1980s converting sunlight into electricity. Combined, they produced 354 MW
of power, enough to support 500,000 people and making it a successful project. (Wikipedia, 2007, para. 1).

A Brief Note On The Civil Common Room
Introduction:
The civil common room is very much the relaxing room of a university or school, so to have a successful, useful, sustainable and fascinating room, it
has to be designed perfectly and focus on how to deal with the size, shape, hazards of the location, access, ventilation, wreathing, speed wind, solar
power and access. This essay will illustrate all there parts.
Size of the room:
Basically, there is no perfect volume, it should be made as big as needed because to avoid getting many empty areas or overfull. This means, the
area must be planed and take a place depending on the location which is 40 m2 x 50 m2, so this design will take form the position a square by
choosing 15 m2 x 15 m2, and this area will be for toilets, locker section, mini kitchen and the rest is for sitting side. Moving to the height of the
shape, ceiling might needs roughly 6.23m in order to get more space for lights and electricity which will take 0.5 and the triangular prism that needs
2.73 m high with angles equals 20o, 140o and 20o, and the rest is for walls which is 3m. Thus, the total volume is almost 1094m3, the pictures of
figure 11 present how it will be.

Entrances of the room:
There will be one entrance which will located in south of the room and another one will be an emergency exit which will be in north which is

Expansion Of Solar Energy : Solar Power
EXPANSION OF SOLAR ENERGY
< Address>
ABSTRACT
Solar power has increasingly gained demand over the years. It is due to the rising energy requirement by industries, and also population growth that
energy requirements have increased as years go by. However, the demand has brought the challenge of expanding the production ofsolar energy. This
paper focuses on how engineering concept of Lean can be used to bring efficiency in the expansion of solar power production.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Solar power harness the sun 's energy to create electricity. Solar energy assets are enormous and boundless, and they can be tackled anyplace that gets
sunlight. The measure of solar radiation, otherwise called insolation, coming to the earth 's surface consistently is more than all the energy at present
devoured by every single human activity yearly [1]. Various variables, including geographic area, time of day, and current climate conditions, all
influence the measure of energy that can engage in for electricity creation or heating purposes.
Although solar energy is copiously accessible, it is likewise variable and discontinuous. Solar power can 't produce electricity during the evening
without capacity components, and is less powerful in cloudy or overcast conditions. Hence, solar energy is frequently utilized as a part of conjunction
with the base–load era from coal, regular gas, atomic, and hydro wellsprings of power that can save the period in times of irregularity.

According to Source B, solar power is defined as the collection of solar radiation to produce electricity. While the energy of the sun is free and
abundant, debates have grown whether or not it provides for our energy needs. Is solar energy clean or does it pollute our environment. Solar energy is
the answer to the Earth's energy needs for the future because, it will get cheaper, be more efficient, and it produces no pollution during operation. First,
solar power energy will soon be cheaper. While others may say that the installation is expensive, will become cheaper throughout the decades.
Source C says that we will hit a peak in oil where we will start exporting as oil prices rise. This means as oil prices rise, solar energy will become
cheaper.

Solar thermal power generation technologies
Solar Thermal Power systems, also known as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated solar radiation as a high temperature energy source
to produce electricity using thermal route. Since the average operating temperature of stationary non–concentrating collectors is low (max up to
1200C) as compared to the desirable input temperatures of heat engines (above 3000C), the concentrating collectors are used for such applications.
These technologies are appropriate for applications where direct solar radiation is high. The mechanism of conversion of solar to electricity is
fundamentally similar to the traditional thermal power plants except use of solar energy as source of heat.
In the basic process of conversion of solar into heat energy, an incident solar irradiance is collected and concentrated by concentrating solar collectors
or mirrors, and generated heat is used to heat the thermic fluids such as heat transfer oils, air or water/steam, depending on the plant design, acts as
heat carrier and/or as storage media. The hot thermic fluid is used to generated steam or hot gases, which are then used to operate a heat engine. In
these systems, the efficiency of the collector reduces marginally as its operating

Sustainable Development And Energy Development : The G8...
The ongoing demand and patterns of industrial energy production and consumption are highly unsustainable which may lead to face multiple
challenges like global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, geopolitical conflicts, consecutive fuel price rises and at last fossil fuel reserves depletion.
Worldwide all the developing countries are working to make a vibrant industrial sector where entrepreneurs will make investments and thus
opportunities will be created for new jobs. To achieve sustainable development and alleviating poverty, most of the developing countries followed the
energy strategy to be focused on combating energy poverty by improving integration systems to the reliable and renewable energy services, enhancing
energy efficiencies and promoting renewable energy to meet rising energy demand in industrial areas. Moreover, in reference to UNIDO (2007b),
potential of renewable and clean energy resources to protecting the environment is yet to be realized. The G8 Summit Declaration of 7 June 2007
states: "Improving energy efficiency worldwide is the fastest, the most sustainable and the cheapest way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
enhance energy security." [3,5–8, 52] However, in places without sufficient solar energy supply, it's not possible to create solar energy system
integration in industries or other promising sectors. Now–a–days these industrial processes are using electricity or liquid or gaseous petroleum fuels to
meet the demand of industrial process

Meta Description: Learn how solar panels harness the power of the sun to create a clean and renewable form of electricity that can save you money on
energy costs.
Simply stated, the definition of "solar energy" is energy that is created by the sun. In the context of modern usage, "solar energy" may refer to
technology that converts radiation from the sun into usable energy sources, such as electricity. In essence, solar panels gather energy from the sun 's
rays and send the energy out through a process that results in electricity, that can be used to power homes, machinery and much more. Solar energy is a
sought–after source of alternative energy because the sun offers a clean, renewable and cost–effective resource as long as it continues to burn and
power life on Earth.
Where It All Begins
Solar energy from the sun begins with a fusion process called the PP, which is short for "proton–proton," chain. The PP chain begins with gravity, as
the core of the sun is extremely dense due to immense gravitational forces. The protons from hydrogen atoms in the core resist the force and create
energy, which makes the temperature rise. The energized protons engage in violent collisions and eventually fuse to each other to create helium.
Helium atoms begin to stabilize and release energy in the form of electromagnetic waves that

Notes On Parabolic Trough Collector Tube
Parabolic trough collector tube I. Introduction General information Nowadays the energy consumption is on such high level that scientists all over
the world are looking for other solution. The greenhouse effect is becoming more and more disturbing effect and some steps need to be taken to at
least prevent some of damages which it may cause. First of all, I will try to explain what parabolic trough collector is. It is one of the types of solar
thermal collectors which is straight in one dimension and curved as a parabola in the other. As you can see in the picture 1. the whole device can be
divided into following parts: parabolic reflective mirror, linear receiver tube or heat collection element, steel support structure/frame and a single–axis
drive mechanism. Parabolic trough solar field consists of hundreds or even hundreds of hundreds of solar collector located parallel through the field.
Every single collector assembly is an independently tracking subsystem so that it makes the whole system more efficient. picture 1 A parabolic solar
collector assembly Parabolic trough collectors need to be designed as simple as possible, not to generate extra costs, easy to assembly which also
means they can be transported in sections to ensure accurate parabola with high rigidity and to lengthen the field to its maximum (which can differ
from several meters to over 150 meters). The objectives of parabolic collectors are to explain why concentration is important and what

Energy Sources Of Solar Energy
The earth has lots of energy sources such as nuclear energy, fossil energy, and renewable sources. Solar, wind, geothermal, and water are renewable
sources of energy. These energy sources are clean. They do not produce any pollution. But the most reliable energy source is the sun. The sun is an
important part of living things. It produces an energy called solar energy. Solar energy is the earth's main source of energy which can be transformed
into heat and electricity. Its energy was used to heat and to light homes during the earliest centuries. Without the sun, living things on earth would not
surely survive because it would be extremely cold and dark. According to the article "Solar Energy," every year the sun carries an average of 1.5
kilowatt–hours of energy to the earth in the form of visible light, X–ray, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation (Solar Energy). Solar energy can be
converted into electricity in two ways. The first one is with the use of solar thermal or electric power plants that creates power by concentrating the
sun's energy to heat the liquid and produce steam which is used to power a generator. (Solar Explained). This is mostly similar to coal and nuclear power
plant.
Another way is by using photovoltaic cells or solar cells that transform sunlight directly into electricity (Solar Explained). In May 1954, photovoltaic
cell, which is made out of a semiconductor called silicon, was developed by three research scientists at Bell Telecommunication

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar energy is able to be generated economically.
Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides
jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits
outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to
install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the
savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however
paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to
handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying
utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner 's energy use may exceed the generated amount.
Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not paying for utility

Although solar energy is provided for an environmental friendly option however there are studies that reveal that it has health effect on humans as
they produce toxins furthermore it has implications on our ecosystems and the provision of goods, for example crops, and services, such as soil

construction and the placement of the power plant may have long–term impacts on plant and animal life by reducing habitat areas for native plants and
animals. Power plants may require water for cleaning solar collectors or concentrators and may require water for cooling turbine–generators. Using
ground water or surface water in some waterless locations with major solar potential may affect the ecosystem. In addition, birds and insects can be
killed if they fly into a concentrated beam of sunlight created by a solar power tower. Another disadvantage is solar panels' dependence on the weather.

Science Fair Research Report: Solar Oven
Science Fair Project Research Report Rough Draft Many people these days have been wasting electricity for cooking for hundreds of years. Many of
them do not realize that they always did not have to cook with a stove, microwave, oven or any type of heating or cooling product. Instead, they should
have used the sun; it's everywhere and allowing us to use its energy to cook. So, here are some basics about solar energy. People have a tendency to
forget that they can use the sun's energy to heat up things. The sun has always been producing energy for billions of years and billions to come. The
energy that is from the sun that is used to heat up things is called solar energy. Solar energy is used for heating up water, spaces, and fluids. For water,...

The main purpose of a solar oven is to harness the sun's energy for free. It does not matter if it is a homemade or a product solar oven because they
both cook food completely if outside long enough. A solar oven is an oven that uses solar energy to cook or heat up things. The best time to use a
solar oven is between eleven a.m. through three p.m. Before cooking, make sure to leave the solar oven outside between thirty minutes through an
hour. To activate the solar oven, it has to be in direct sunlight so the sun can reflect off the reflectors. The sun's energy heats the inside of the solar
oven. Sunlight, both reflected and direct enters the glass or plastic top of the solar oven. The more the glass or plastic directly faces the sun, the
greater possibility that the solar oven will gain more heat. To make possibility greater add single or multiple reflectors to the glass or plastic top to
increase the internal temperature. To increase more heat, use a dark cooking pot. The reason to use a dark pot is because it will absorb the sun's
energy. The sunlight that was absorbed by the pot(s) is made into a longer wavelength heat energy that radiates the inside of the solar oven. The
sunlight is either absorbed by the materials in it, passed throughout the glass back, or wavelength does not change any bit. The heat input causes the
temperature within the solar oven to rise until the solar oven's heat loss is equivalent to the heat gain. This is the way that both homemade and product

The Benefits Of Solar Energy
In today's modern industrial society vast amounts of energy are needed to make living more comfortable, productive and enjoyable. The increase in
energy consumption not only caused a global spike in energy costs, but also negatively impacted our environment. Climate change, the threat of an
unsecured energy supply and rising energy costs have emphasized the need for improved energy efficiency. Efficient energy use is essential as it
enables financial savings, preserves fossil fuel resources, and reduces air pollution. Reducing energy consumption and lowering Greenhouse gas
emissions are the two most important reasons to improve energy efficiency. Pollution is a major disadvantage of fossil fuels causing air pollution,
water pollution, damage to public health, wildlife and habitat loss, and global warming emissions. However renewable energy sources such as wind,
solar, geothermal, biomass, and hydropower provides sustainable energy services, of which solar energy is one of the cleanest, abundant and most
sustainable ways to generate electricity. The increase in oil prices, the depletion of fossil fuel, and increase in consumption of energy has led to finding
an alternate source of electricity generation through sustainable energy resources. The sun was humankind's first source of power, and with a little
effort to make it more efficient, it may be the only source of energy we may need for the future. Among various sustainable sources, solar energy is the
fastest growing,

Space Based Solar Power ( Sbsp )
Space–Based Solar Power It is no secret that the earth is in need of a new sustainable source of energy. There is a limited supply of fossil fuels on the
planet, and the energy–generating solutions that are currently in action are only decelerating the rate of consumption of nonrenewable energy. The U.S.
Energy Information Administration predicts that the earth will run out of useable fossil fuels by 2088 if the current rates of consumption continue. A
promising long–term solution to this crisis is space–based solar power (SBSP). To attain SBSP, satellites are sent up in space to obtain direct and
constant solar energy, then laser technology beams the gathered energy down to earth where it can be constantly and globally utilized. Space–based
solar power is not a new idea, the Department of Energy first studied it in the 1970s, and NASA took another look in the '90s. The stumbling block has
been less the engineering challenge than the cost (Sofge). Funding for space–based solar power is costly, but not unreasonable. As the current energy
on earth depletes and the urgency for a new sustainable source grows, there must be greater steps made towards a solution. Space–based solar power is
a viable solution to the world's looming need for a new energy source, but in order to make this idea a reality more funding is needed. "The challenge
is one of perception," says John Mankins, president of the Space Power Association and the leader of NASA 's mid–1990s SBSP study.

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Solar Energy
Concerns about the well–being of the environment have driven the world towards the use of renewable energy sources. The issue at hand was to
determine which salt, between CloKMag, FLiBe, and FLiNaK, would be the best option to be used in conjunction with a concentrated solar plant in
order to supply power to all 100,000 of Salt Bay's residents for the least cost. Since solar energy has been criticized for only being able to produce
daytime power, the addition of salt storage has allowed energy generation throughout the day. This power has to be available 24 hours a day, year
round. Through the use of mass and energy balances, the recommended salt was found to be FLiNaK, with a net cost per year of $147,000,000. In
order to break even, a utility cost on Salt Bay residents would be $0.16. This is 11% cheaper than the second least expensive option.

Physics for Industries
INTRODUCTION
Physics attempts to describe the fundamental nature of the universe and how it works, always striving for the simplest explanations common to the

The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of the wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top
must travel faster in order to conform to the shape of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the
streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of the region immediately above the wing. Because the
downward force on the top of the wing is less than the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond the
airfoil the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton 's third law, the reaction force to the net downward force exerted on the
air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of air is required relative to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through stationary air or for
moving past a stationary wing.
In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the resistance to forward motion) increases. According to
Breithaipt (2000), aircraft wings are designed so that pilots can change the wing shape during flight, producing greater lift for the slower speeds of
takeoff and landing and producing less drag at cruising extended

Solar Energy And Solar Power
Introduction
Solar energy is defined as the transformation of the sun's rays into useful forms of energy, for instance, electricity and heat. The capacity of solar
radiation a place receives depends on a variety of factors such as geographic location, time of day, season, and local weather. According to Knier (n.d.)
photo voltaic and concentrating solar power cells are the two forms of sources to produce electricity. Photo voltaic cells generate electricity directly
using solar cells and concentrated solar power cells generate electricity using steam. According to The World Bank– for the past three years, India has
taken a enormous step in forwarding and in implementing the green growth agenda by producing 2,000 MW of solar power at the world's cheap tariff.
Solar power is likely to reduce India's usage of imports of diesel and coal. A number of measurements are probably taking to generate 20,000 MW of
solar power in future by 2022. The Solar industry is likely to create 200–400 jobs in the industries like research, development and installation, for every
10 MW of solar power generated. Hence, the government of India had taken enormous steps to increase the productivity of the solar energy. This
research report will discuss the effectiveness and the limitations of solar power in India

Analysis Of Sunpower Corporation, An American Solar Energy...
Sunpower Corporation is an American solar energy company which manufactures, designs and deliver high efficiency solar solutions for homes,
businesses and utilities by being a global solar energy solutions company and technology leader. Sunpower was founded in 1985 by Dr. Richard
Swanson, a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University and its headquarters situated in San Jose, California, and the Company also
operates in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and North America. The main goal of the company was to commercialize solar concentrator
technology. (Sunpower Corporation, 2016; SRI World Group Inc, 2016; Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2015) Solar cell or photovoltaic (PV) systems
usually transformed energy from the sun in to electric current. It can be measured in terms of ''conversion efficiency'', the proportion of solar energy
transformed to electricity. (Henderson, Conkling, & Roberts, 2007) Sunpower primarily focused on the production of solar cell. But by moving in to
wafer manufacturing it soon incorporated in to manufacturing of solar power module units. In general Sunpower manufacturing process needed
approximately two times as many steps as the usual solar manufacturing process need and many of these steps were distinctive to Sunpower. Sunpower
has nearly 15 –20 established cell manufactures, a handful of silicon – based cell manufacturing upstarts and a number of thin film solar companies
offering potentially unsettling technologies.

Topic: Solar Energy
Improving Solar energy in the United States
Audience: Home owners
Executive Summary:
Solar energy has been in existence for a longer than any of us will imagine. Of course the sun is the oldest and most basic source of energy. Solar
technology has been in existence since the 7th century B.C. Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy that does not have most of the problems
fossil fuels have. There are three types of solar technology that can be utilized in both our homes and businesses. The three types of solar energy are
solar thermal and solar electric which can also be called photovoltaic (PV) and passive solar energy. Solar energy is developing and could be used as
an alternative for fossil fuel which emits dangerous gasses into the atmosphere. I will be discussing about the benefits, problems and how solar energy
can be improved in the United States.
Introduction:
The sun has been around since the beginning of time and it is one of the most efficient ways of generating electric power. Passive solar energy is
simply the heating of home and buildings through architectural designs. Solar thermal energy is where the sun rays are used to heat our homes and
water. It uses solar thermal collectors to collect heat energy and disperse it through our heating and plumbing system. This type of solar energy is very
cheap and can be afforded by home owners. Solar photovoltaic uses the sun rays to electricity

Energy, Reliable, Sustainable And Modern
This goals' objective is that everyone will have access to energy, and that the energy will be affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern. This is a
very hefty goal to achieve, only made harder by the goal's five targets. Targets are supposed to be measureable indicators of whether or not the goal
can be achieved. I believe that targets 7.1 and 7.2 are not truly measureable until certain aspects of the target have been defined. Target 7.1 aims to
ensure universal access to affordable energy. The reason that this cannot be measured is twofold. First, the word "affordable" needs to be defined.
The amount of money that countries and people can afford to allocate to energy differ vastly; what may be an acceptable price for one person or
one country may be drastically too high for another. The second reason this target is not measureable is because of the word "universal". Universal
means that everyone will have access. In 2015, it is estimated that there are 7.2 billion people on Earth. I believe that it is unrealistic for the UN to be
able to determine if every single person has access to energy, let alone if the energy is affordable/ sustainable, etc...Target 7.2 aims to substantially
increase the share of renewable energy. Again this target cannot be measured until it is clearly defined. The word substantially is not easily measured
because there is no value to it. Does substantially mean an increase by 5%, 70%, is it measured in terms of money, percentages, or other units?

The Energy Generator Ofgem Announced
Energy, especially electricity, is vital in today's economy however demand for electricity is currently so high that the available supply may not be
sufficient over the next 25 years. Electricity lights our homes, powers our technology and is a fundamental factor in everybody's day to day lives.
In 2012, the energy generator Ofgem announced that Great Britain risks running out of energy. (Business, 2012). In theUnited Kingdom, equipment
which is used to generate electricity has suffered from years of under investment. This has resulted in an inefficient system that distributes energy
across the country. Most of the UK's electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels. In 2010, Energy UK reported that the UK currently use 47%
natural gas and 28% coal to supply the countries power. (Energy–uk.org, 2010).
In 2007, the United Kingdom Government agreed to an overall European Union target of generating 20% of the European Union 's energy supply
from renewable sources by 2020. The total of all renewable electricity sources provided for 14.9% of the electricity generated in the United Kingdom
in 2013, reaching 53.7 TWh of electricity generated. (Daley, 2015).
Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat. Renewable energy technologies
range from solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity/micro hydro, biomass and biofuels for transportation. Solar power is recently becoming more

1.Introduction
South Africa is currently experiencing many problems and crises with its supply of sufficient and consistent energy. South Africa as a country can no
longer rely on its current electricity providers like Eskom to provide it with sufficient daily energy. The main problem is that in South Africa the main
resource for obtaining electrical energy is through the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. In this report there will be an examination of many
alternative methods for obtaining energy in this country that is not only more sustainable but more or less completely renewable. Renewable energy is
the logical step forward for South Africa.

It does not pollute its environment in any way, it doesn't disturb the eco–systems around it and is preferred over wind power in communities because it
does not make noise like wind turbines do. 4.2.Disadvantages
The disadvantages of solar is first of all the cost of solar panels and the installation of them. For many South African households it is not even
possible to afford solar panels so the possibility of every home with a solar panel system and providing itself with renewable energy falls a bit out of
reach. Although it is costly, the solar panels pay for themselves after the first 5 years and from then on your electricity is completely free and
environmentally friendly. It is also more secure than relying on Eskom to provide electricity at the current state of the national power grid.
There is almost the fact that the storage of energy in any type of solar energy household unit it not extremely effective. The batteries themselves can't
store a massive amount of energy and are very large and quite difficult to find any space for them in a normal home.

Can The Sun Arrange For Sufficient Power? Run A Business...
Can the sun arrange for sufficient power to run a business or home? The answer is totally yes. But it depends on the solar powered system and its
application. There are three elementary types of solar powered systems obtainable today, Grid–tie, Grid–tie with battery backup and Off–grid.
Deregulation and net metering laws make a grid–tie system eye–catching. If there is no utility in the least, then the choice would be clear, off–grid
inverter. If you want back up power in case of a power failure, then a grid–tie system with battery backup would be the commonsensical choice. For a
bit more clarification of the similarities and differences between all three systems, please continue to read.
Grid–tie is also called as grid interactive or utility interconnected. This works only in regions of the nation that permit net metering. Solar power turns
the electric meter backward when generating more power than used. A grid–tie system entails solar panels, a grid–tie inverter, fuses and a power cut
off switch. This kind of solar hybrid inverter is wired straight to the utility feed through the main breaker panels and utility meter. Grid–tie with battery
backup is a type of solar system that is approximately the same as the grid tie system with a few additions. Accompanied by the inverter and solar
panels, you would need 12–volt batteries, a battery charger and a solar charge controller. With the adding of the batteries comes a little more upkeep.
A solar charge controller is used so

CSP, or concentratingsolar power, plants are a modern method of generating energy through utilization of sunlight and thermal energy. With the
assistance from internal mirrors, solar energy is concentrated onto a small area allowing electricity to be created from the drive of steam turbines. There
are three main systems in which CSP plants occur: trough systems, power tower systems, and dish/engine systems. In the trough system, mirrors are
used to reflect sunlight onto oil–filled pipes in order to heat the pipes, and eventually, boil surrounding water to create steam to power the turbine. The

Solar Energy Essay
Another topic that DeBono talked about was the kind of electricity solar panels generate. "PV solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity.
With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction around a circuit" (DeBono). One interesting fact that DeBono stated was "AC electricity was
chosen for the U.S. electrical power grid, primarily because it is less expensive to transmit over long distances. However, solar panels create DC
electricity. How do we get DC electricity into the AC grid? We use an inverter" (DeBono). Since the United States usesalternating current electricity for
its electrical power grid, and solar panels generate direct current electricity. if we want to use the energy that is generated by the panels, we would need
to use a solar inverter to convert direct current electricity into alternating current electricity.
Overall, the solar panel system functions when sunlight shines its energy on solar panels, which would allow panels to generate direct current
electricity, then the solar inverter comes into play, and convert the direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. At this point, an
individual would be able to use the power that have been generated and converted, for their homes or businesses. One of the biggest concern that
people have regarding solar energy is that the initial cost for solar panels are expensive, but what they do not know is that the cost for solar panel
installation have been dropping down, and it does not look like they will stop dropping down anytime soon. According to Eric Wesoff and Stephen
Lacey in their article, "Solar Costs Are Hitting Jaw–Dropping Lows in Every Region of the World". "GTM Research expects a 27 percent drop in
average global project prices by 2022, or about 4.4 percent each year. Those improvements are not limited to the U.S. They are occurring globally, and
in some cases resulting in even sharper price declines than those America is experiencing" (Wesoff and Lacey). This shows that many experts in the
field of solar power have come up with a conclusion, which is the price of cost to install solar panel system will keep reducing all around the world.
According to Sara Matasci in her article, "2017 Average Cost of

Factories were created to have a bigger work force in one place rather than use the Putting out system. Originally located next to streams, factories
started using coal to power the factories instead of water power as it would produce more products faster. Coal was used because of its reliability to
power the factories. The overuse of coal caused widespread pollution across countries. As the industrial revolution progressed, other methods to power
machines were introduced. Some countries decided to stick with coal powered as they did not want to spend money on the new methods to power the
machines. As a result, the pollution increased and countries started to suffer from the bad air quality. China's factories did not switch to cleaner
methods and the pollution increased all over china. China has over 2 million across the country, but the majority of the factories run on the same
resource. Coal, since coal is powering the majority of the factories, the harmful toxins released in the air has caused widespread pollution throughout
china's towns. The pollution impacted china the most in 2013. "A cloud of smog had collected above the town of Beijing." (Beam __) The pollution
in china is not just from the factories. Some is from the production of electricity which comes from coal and nuclear power plants. The chemicals and
smoke from the power plants have polluted the environment and contaminated the water. "But it was also left many people with

Pros And Cons Of Green Energy
Solar energy is energy harnessed from the sun's rays and turned into power. This is considered green energy because green energy is a natural source
used for energy. Solar power works by special energy cells converting sunlight into a direct current to power houses. Basically the particles of sunlight
hits a solar panel. The solar panel then turns this into a direct current which is then used to power electronic things. Solar energy is used very often and
has been a growing economy for years. A lot of Americans are now switching and jobs are going up.
The future of solar energy is looking good, new advancements are coming out, people are switching and the field overall is improving. Some new
advancements for the future are stronger power. Thats right multi terawatt power in panels is one improvement engineers are working on for the
future. The panels will be cheaper and that means more affordable. More affordable means people save money and get more power! So more will
want to flock to this field and that's a major economy win. Not only will it be cheaper with more power they are also predicted to be easier to
produce to keep up with the crowds and having more products for the crowds is just what it needs.
The pros of solar energy is that it's renewable, it has a lot of potential for the growing market. Solar energy doesn't cause pollution and it can be
contained so we don't have too, too much. It's available all over the world too! Even though this pro is more of an upside to people in general is that
it's silent unlike most electric methods. Some cons of this energy is that it can be pricey sometimes, however they are working on it. Another con is
that it collects from the sun so it could be a problem when it's cloudy but it does save so you won't be powerless. Space is also a concern because
typically these large panels take up your roof but what if your roof isn't applicable it has to be on the ground or elsewhere.
To show solar to another green energy here is a compare and contrast of wind and solar.Wind power is more popular than solar in the USA and that is
a fact, but wind powers turbines take up way more space than solar panels. If the area you are in is not windy the wind power

Solar Power Importance
Solar power is an important aspect of life that people should consider putting in their homes. Solar power is the process of obtaining the energy from
the sun and converting it to multiple uses. It can be used to light, heat, and cool homes for cheaper than electric companies. Solar power is created by
using a device called a solar panel. Solar panels are used to soak up the sun's rays to create renewable energy for homes and businesses. Solar power is
saved during the daylight so that it can be used during the night. If it is a cloudy day; enough energy can be preserved. If it isn't, the solar panel can
still get the energy it needs if the sun's rays shine through the clouds. On a cloudy day, the thicker the clouds the less energy obtained(U.S. Department
of Energy,2009).
Solar power is mostly used in places with the most sunshine. For example, they are majorly used in places in the United States like California, New
Mexico, and Arizona. Another good place to have solar panels is in other countries, especially close to the equator. Close to the equator is a good spot
for the use of solar panels because the sun's rays are stronger there.
The process of creating the Solar panel is not an easy process. Solar panels are made up of mostly different types of silicon and glass–like substances.
The process of making them and installing them is costly, but after that they are done, they are fine. A photovoltaic cell is a cell that convertssolar
energy into electrical energy(

Compare and Contrast Essay
"Compare and contrast solar power with coal powered energy"
Energy is an important factor in todays society, it is neccesary to power business, manufacturing and the transportation of goods and services all
around the world. Solar powered energy is energy from the sun. This energy can be conerted into different energy like heat and electricity. Heat can be
used to heat water or heat spaces, for example heating for houses, buildings or even swimming pools. Solar energy can be converted in two ways, by
Photovoltaic or "solar cells" which change sunlight directly into electricity or by concentrating solar power plants which generate electricity by using
heat from solar thermal collectors. Coal powered energy has played an important role in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Electricity costs in the United States average 7 cents per kilowatt–hour. A currently inexpensive solar system running at an average of 30% peak
capacity due to no sun at night or cloudiness which produces 3 kilowatts will cost $6,552. This system will take about 10 years before it costs less
than paying for electricity which has been made from coal. However there are some cases where solar energy makes economic sense. Photovoltaics
power remote data storage devices can be highly beneficial where electricity is not available such as poor developing countries. Countries such as
Africa use inexpensive solar collection devices for cooking and heating water, special design of new houses and buildings can greatly reduce the cost
since much of the house becomes an effective solar collector. At the moment the price of coal is relatively cheap and stable due to easy access and an
abundant amount that will last up to 250 years longer. Although solar energy is at disadvantage right now, the availability of "free" sunlight will
continue to contribute to the development of new ideas that can make solar power more affordable in the future.
The biggest concern associated with coal energy is the affect it has on the environment. It is a dirty fuel that pollutes the air, water and land. Burning
coal releases harmful waste such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide,

Solar Power Essay

  • 1. Solar Power Essay Solar Power: An Alternative Energy Source Since first discovered in the 1860s, the concept of storing energy from the sun to use as a source of power has been studied and pursued by many programs. Either using solar collectors or photovoltaic cells, the methods of using solar power are becoming more efficient and cost–effective. Solar technology is currently being used by homes and businesses, but is still too expensive and risky for many residents. Researchers are still making advances to solar technology for it to be a feasible energy source in the future. Solar energy was first started in the 1860s when Auguste Mouchout and William Adams found a way for storing solar radiation into tanks of water. Since then, there have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because silicon cells are only semi–conductive, it is harder to generate an electrical current, and therefore require collective grids to transfer electrons through a series of thin wires. Although collective grids are the Solar Power 3 most efficient way of solving conductive issues, it is expensive to produce. Instead, photolithography is used to attach the metal grid to the cell. After the development of PV cells in the 1940s, little progress was made for the next few years because of its expensive cost. However, it was used in the space industry in the 1950s and 60s. Now, with nanotechnology and other improvements, there is possibility for cheaper and more efficient production. Finally, there are uses of solar furnaces to collect solar energy in a small area by reflecting the heat using mirrors. An example of this is a solar furnace in Odellio, France that has the ability to heat up to 33,000 degrees Celsius (Darvill, 2007, para. 11). Experiments with Solar Power Plants: The Mojave Desert is an ideal place for solar power plants since it is so insolated and has more sunlight than most areas of the United States. The Solar Energy Generating Systems were nine trough power plants built in 1980s converting sunlight into electricity. Combined, they produced 354 MW of power, enough to support 500,000 people and making it a successful project. (Wikipedia, 2007, para. 1). The Solar Energy Technology Program (SETP) set up solar initiatives in hopes of replacing fossil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Brief Note On The Civil Common Room Introduction: The civil common room is very much the relaxing room of a university or school, so to have a successful, useful, sustainable and fascinating room, it has to be designed perfectly and focus on how to deal with the size, shape, hazards of the location, access, ventilation, wreathing, speed wind, solar power and access. This essay will illustrate all there parts. Size of the room: Basically, there is no perfect volume, it should be made as big as needed because to avoid getting many empty areas or overfull. This means, the area must be planed and take a place depending on the location which is 40 m2 x 50 m2, so this design will take form the position a square by choosing 15 m2 x 15 m2, and this area will be for toilets, locker section, mini kitchen and the rest is for sitting side. Moving to the height of the shape, ceiling might needs roughly 6.23m in order to get more space for lights and electricity which will take 0.5 and the triangular prism that needs 2.73 m high with angles equals 20o, 140o and 20o, and the rest is for walls which is 3m. Thus, the total volume is almost 1094m3, the pictures of figure 11 present how it will be. Figure 11 (sketch up .S A. 2016)) Entrances of the room: There will be one entrance which will located in south of the room and another one will be an emergency exit which will be in north which is opposite side of entrance, they will be the same level with ground or the doors will be slightly up from the ground by ... It is due to the rising energy requirement by industries, and also population growth that energy requirements have increased as years go by. However, the demand has brought the challenge of expanding the production ofsolar energy. This paper focuses on how engineering concept of Lean can be used to bring efficiency in the expansion of solar power production. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Solar power harness the sun 's energy to create electricity. Solar energy assets are enormous and boundless, and they can be tackled anyplace that gets sunlight. The measure of solar radiation, otherwise called insolation, coming to the earth 's surface consistently is more than all the energy at present devoured by every single human activity yearly [1]. Various variables, including geographic area, time of day, and current climate conditions, all influence the measure of energy that can engage in for electricity creation or heating purposes. Although solar energy is copiously accessible, it is likewise variable and discontinuous. Solar power can 't produce electricity during the evening without capacity components, and is less powerful in cloudy or overcast conditions. Hence, solar energy is frequently utilized as a part of conjunction with the base–load era from coal, regular gas, atomic, and hydro wellsprings of power that can save the period in times of irregularity. This indicates that India's future energy requirements are going to be very high and solar energy can be one of the efficient and eco–friendly ways to meet the same. Solar thermal power generation technologies Solar Thermal Power systems, also known as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated solar radiation as a high temperature energy source to produce electricity using thermal route. Since the average operating temperature of stationary non–concentrating collectors is low (max up to 1200C) as compared to the desirable input temperatures of heat engines (above 3000C), the concentrating collectors are used for such applications. These technologies are appropriate for applications where direct solar radiation is high. The mechanism of conversion of solar to electricity is fundamentally similar to the traditional thermal power plants except use of solar energy as source of heat. In the basic process of conversion of solar into heat energy, an incident solar irradiance is collected and concentrated by concentrating solar collectors

Solar Energy Definition, Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy Title: Solar Energy Definition Meta Tags: solar energy definition, solar panels definition, solar power definition, alternative energy, solar energy power Meta Description: Learn how solar panels harness the power of the sun to create a clean and renewable form of electricity that can save you money on energy costs. Simply stated, the definition of "solar energy" is energy that is created by the sun. In the context of modern usage, "solar energy" may refer to technology that converts radiation from the sun into usable energy sources, such as electricity. In essence, solar panels gather energy from the sun 's rays and send the energy out through a process that results in electricity, that can be used to power homes, machinery and much more. Solar energy is a sought–after source of alternative energy because the sun offers a clean, renewable and cost–effective resource as long as it continues to burn and power life on Earth. Where It All Begins Solar energy from the sun begins with a fusion process called the PP, which is short for "proton–proton," chain. The PP chain begins with gravity, as the core of the sun is extremely dense due to immense gravitational forces. The protons from hydrogen atoms in the core resist the force and create energy, which makes the temperature rise. The energized protons engage in violent collisions and eventually fuse to each other to create helium. Helium atoms begin to stabilize and release energy in the form of electromagnetic waves that ... • 11. Notes On Parabolic Trough Collector Tube Parabolic trough collector tube I. Introduction General information Nowadays the energy consumption is on such high level that scientists all over the world are looking for other solution. The greenhouse effect is becoming more and more disturbing effect and some steps need to be taken to at least prevent some of damages which it may cause. First of all, I will try to explain what parabolic trough collector is. It is one of the types of solar thermal collectors which is straight in one dimension and curved as a parabola in the other. As you can see in the picture 1. the whole device can be divided into following parts: parabolic reflective mirror, linear receiver tube or heat collection element, steel support structure/frame and a single–axis drive mechanism. Parabolic trough solar field consists of hundreds or even hundreds of hundreds of solar collector located parallel through the field. Every single collector assembly is an independently tracking subsystem so that it makes the whole system more efficient. picture 1 A parabolic solar collector assembly Parabolic trough collectors need to be designed as simple as possible, not to generate extra costs, easy to assembly which also means they can be transported in sections to ensure accurate parabola with high rigidity and to lengthen the field to its maximum (which can differ from several meters to over 150 meters). The objectives of parabolic collectors are to explain why concentration is important and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Energy Sources Of Solar Energy The earth has lots of energy sources such as nuclear energy, fossil energy, and renewable sources. Solar, wind, geothermal, and water are renewable sources of energy. These energy sources are clean. They do not produce any pollution. But the most reliable energy source is the sun. The sun is an important part of living things. It produces an energy called solar energy. Solar energy is the earth's main source of energy which can be transformed into heat and electricity. Its energy was used to heat and to light homes during the earliest centuries. Without the sun, living things on earth would not surely survive because it would be extremely cold and dark. According to the article "Solar Energy," every year the sun carries an average of 1.5 kilowatt–hours of energy to the earth in the form of visible light, X–ray, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation (Solar Energy). Solar energy can be converted into electricity in two ways. The first one is with the use of solar thermal or electric power plants that creates power by concentrating the sun's energy to heat the liquid and produce steam which is used to power a generator. (Solar Explained). This is mostly similar to coal and nuclear power plant. Another way is by using photovoltaic cells or solar cells that transform sunlight directly into electricity (Solar Explained). • 14. Solar Power And Solar Energy Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner 's energy use may exceed the generated amount. Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not paying for utility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of them do not realize that they always did not have to cook with a stove, microwave, oven or any type of heating or cooling product. Instead, they should have used the sun; it's everywhere and allowing us to use its energy to cook. So, here are some basics about solar energy. People have a tendency to forget that they can use the sun's energy to heat up things. The sun has always been producing energy for billions of years and billions to come. The energy that is from the sun that is used to heat up things is called solar energy. Solar energy is used for heating up water, spaces, and fluids. For water,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main purpose of a solar oven is to harness the sun's energy for free. It does not matter if it is a homemade or a product solar oven because they both cook food completely if outside long enough. A solar oven is an oven that uses solar energy to cook or heat up things. The best time to use a solar oven is between eleven a.m. through three p.m. Before cooking, make sure to leave the solar oven outside between thirty minutes through an hour. To activate the solar oven, it has to be in direct sunlight so the sun can reflect off the reflectors. The sun's energy heats the inside of the solar oven. Sunlight, both reflected and direct enters the glass or plastic top of the solar oven. The more the glass or plastic directly faces the sun, the greater possibility that the solar oven will gain more heat. To make possibility greater add single or multiple reflectors to the glass or plastic top to increase the internal temperature. To increase more heat, use a dark cooking pot. The reason to use a dark pot is because it will absorb the sun's energy. The sunlight that was absorbed by the pot(s) is made into a longer wavelength heat energy that radiates the inside of the solar oven. The sunlight is either absorbed by the materials in it, passed throughout the glass back, or wavelength does not change any bit. The heat input causes the temperature within the solar oven to rise until the solar oven's heat loss is equivalent to the heat gain. • 17. The Benefits Of Solar Energy In today's modern industrial society vast amounts of energy are needed to make living more comfortable, productive and enjoyable. The increase in energy consumption not only caused a global spike in energy costs, but also negatively impacted our environment. Climate change, the threat of an unsecured energy supply and rising energy costs have emphasized the need for improved energy efficiency. Efficient energy use is essential as it enables financial savings, preserves fossil fuel resources, and reduces air pollution. Reducing energy consumption and lowering Greenhouse gas emissions are the two most important reasons to improve energy efficiency. Pollution is a major disadvantage of fossil fuels causing air pollution, water pollution, damage to public health, wildlife and habitat loss, and global warming emissions. However renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and hydropower provides sustainable energy services, of which solar energy is one of the cleanest, abundant and most sustainable ways to generate electricity. The increase in oil prices, the depletion of fossil fuel, and increase in consumption of energy has led to finding an alternate source of electricity generation through sustainable energy resources. • 18. Space Based Solar Power ( Sbsp ) Space–Based Solar Power It is no secret that the earth is in need of a new sustainable source of energy. There is a limited supply of fossil fuels on the planet, and the energy–generating solutions that are currently in action are only decelerating the rate of consumption of nonrenewable energy. The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts that the earth will run out of useable fossil fuels by 2088 if the current rates of consumption continue. A promising long–term solution to this crisis is space–based solar power (SBSP). To attain SBSP, satellites are sent up in space to obtain direct and constant solar energy, then laser technology beams the gathered energy down to earth where it can be constantly and globally utilized. Space–based solar power is not a new idea, the Department of Energy first studied it in the 1970s, and NASA took another look in the '90s. The stumbling block has been less the engineering challenge than the cost (Sofge). Funding for space–based solar power is costly, but not unreasonable. As the current energy on earth depletes and the urgency for a new sustainable source grows, there must be greater steps made towards a solution. Space–based solar power is a viable solution to the world's looming need for a new energy source, but in order to make this idea a reality more funding is needed. "The challenge is one of perception," says John Mankins, president of the Space Power Association and the leader of NASA 's mid–1990s SBSP study. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Solar Energy Concerns about the well–being of the environment have driven the world towards the use of renewable energy sources. The issue at hand was to determine which salt, between CloKMag, FLiBe, and FLiNaK, would be the best option to be used in conjunction with a concentrated solar plant in order to supply power to all 100,000 of Salt Bay's residents for the least cost. Since solar energy has been criticized for only being able to produce daytime power, the addition of salt storage has allowed energy generation throughout the day. This power has to be available 24 hours a day, year round. Through the use of mass and energy balances, the recommended salt was found to be FLiNaK, with a net cost per year of $147,000,000. In order to break even, a utility cost on Salt Bay residents would be $0.16. This is 11% cheaper than the second least expensive option. 1. The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of the wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top must travel faster in order to conform to the shape of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of the region immediately above the wing. Because the downward force on the top of the wing is less than the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond the airfoil the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton 's third law, the reaction force to the net downward force exerted on the air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of air is required relative to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through stationary air or for moving past a stationary wing. In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the resistance to forward motion) increases. According to Breithaipt (2000), aircraft wings are designed so that pilots can change the wing shape during flight, producing greater lift for the slower speeds of takeoff and landing and producing less drag at cruising extended ... Renewable Energy : Improving Solar Energy Kwaku Sefah Jr Major: Math November 27, 2014 Topic: Solar Energy Improving Solar energy in the United States Audience: Home owners Executive Summary: Solar energy has been in existence for a longer than any of us will imagine. Of course the sun is the oldest and most basic source of energy. Solar technology has been in existence since the 7th century B.C. Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy that does not have most of the problems fossil fuels have. There are three types of solar technology that can be utilized in both our homes and businesses. The three types of solar energy are solar thermal and solar electric which can also be called photovoltaic (PV) and passive solar energy. Solar energy is developing and could be used as an alternative for fossil fuel which emits dangerous gasses into the atmosphere. I will be discussing about the benefits, problems and how solar energy can be improved in the United States. Introduction: The sun has been around since the beginning of time and it is one of the most efficient ways of generating electric power. Passive solar energy is simply the heating of home and buildings through architectural designs. Solar thermal energy is where the sun rays are used to heat our homes and water. It uses solar thermal collectors to collect heat energy and disperse it through our heating and plumbing system. This type of solar energy is very cheap and can be afforded by home owners. • 28. Energy, Reliable, Sustainable And Modern This goals' objective is that everyone will have access to energy, and that the energy will be affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern. This is a very hefty goal to achieve, only made harder by the goal's five targets. Targets are supposed to be measureable indicators of whether or not the goal can be achieved. I believe that targets 7.1 and 7.2 are not truly measureable until certain aspects of the target have been defined. Target 7.1 aims to ensure universal access to affordable energy. The reason that this cannot be measured is twofold. First, the word "affordable" needs to be defined. The amount of money that countries and people can afford to allocate to energy differ vastly; what may be an acceptable price for one person or one country may be drastically too high for another. The second reason this target is not measureable is because of the word "universal". Universal means that everyone will have access. In 2015, it is estimated that there are 7.2 billion people on Earth. I believe that it is unrealistic for the UN to be able to determine if every single person has access to energy, let alone if the energy is affordable/ sustainable, etc...Target 7.2 aims to substantially increase the share of renewable energy. Again this target cannot be measured until it is clearly defined. The word substantially is not easily measured because there is no value to it. Does substantially mean an increase by 5%, 70%, is it measured in terms of money, percentages, or other units? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But it depends on the solar powered system and its application. There are three elementary types of solar powered systems obtainable today, Grid–tie, Grid–tie with battery backup and Off–grid. Deregulation and net metering laws make a grid–tie system eye–catching. If there is no utility in the least, then the choice would be clear, off–grid inverter. If you want back up power in case of a power failure, then a grid–tie system with battery backup would be the commonsensical choice. For a bit more clarification of the similarities and differences between all three systems, please continue to read. Grid–tie is also called as grid interactive or utility interconnected. • 34. 1. Introduction CSP, or concentratingsolar power, plants are a modern method of generating energy through utilization of sunlight and thermal energy. With the assistance from internal mirrors, solar energy is concentrated onto a small area allowing electricity to be created from the drive of steam turbines. There are three main systems in which CSP plants occur: trough systems, power tower systems, and dish/engine systems. In the trough system, mirrors are used to reflect sunlight onto oil–filled pipes in order to heat the pipes, and eventually, boil surrounding water to create steam to power the turbine. The mirrors in power tower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Solar Energy Essay Another topic that DeBono talked about was the kind of electricity solar panels generate. "PV solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity. With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction around a circuit" (DeBono). One interesting fact that DeBono stated was "AC electricity was chosen for the U.S. electrical power grid, primarily because it is less expensive to transmit over long distances. However, solar panels create DC electricity. How do we get DC electricity into the AC grid? We use an inverter" (DeBono). Since the United States usesalternating current electricity for its electrical power grid, and solar panels generate direct current electricity. if we want to use the energy that is generated by the panels, we would need to use a solar inverter to convert direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. Overall, the solar panel system functions when sunlight shines its energy on solar panels, which would allow panels to generate direct current electricity, then the solar inverter comes into play, and convert the direct current electricity into alternating current electricity. At this point, an individual would be able to use the power that have been generated and converted, for their homes or businesses. One of the biggest concern that people have regarding solar energy is that the initial cost for solar panels are expensive, but what they do not know is that the cost for solar panel installation have been dropping down, and it does not look like they will stop dropping down anytime soon. According to Eric Wesoff and Stephen Lacey in their article, "Solar Costs Are Hitting Jaw–Dropping Lows in Every Region of the World". "GTM Research expects a 27 percent drop in average global project prices by 2022, or about 4.4 percent each year. Those improvements are not limited to the U.S. They are occurring globally, and in some cases resulting in even sharper price declines than those America is experiencing" (Wesoff and Lacey). This shows that many experts in the field of solar power have come up with a conclusion, which is the price of cost to install solar panel system will keep reducing all around the world. According to Sara Matasci in her article, "2017 Average Cost of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Water Pollution Essay Factories were created to have a bigger work force in one place rather than use the Putting out system. Originally located next to streams, factories started using coal to power the factories instead of water power as it would produce more products faster. Coal was used because of its reliability to power the factories. The overuse of coal caused widespread pollution across countries. As the industrial revolution progressed, other methods to power machines were introduced. Some countries decided to stick with coal powered as they did not want to spend money on the new methods to power the machines. As a result, the pollution increased and countries started to suffer from the bad air quality. China's factories did not switch to cleaner methods and the pollution increased all over china. China has over 2 million across the country, but the majority of the factories run on the same resource. Coal, since coal is powering the majority of the factories, the harmful toxins released in the air has caused widespread pollution throughout china's towns. The pollution impacted china the most in 2013. "A cloud of smog had collected above the town of Beijing." (Beam __) The pollution in china is not just from the factories. Some is from the production of electricity which comes from coal and nuclear power plants. The chemicals and smoke from the power plants have polluted the environment and contaminated the water. • 37. Pros And Cons Of Green Energy Solar energy is energy harnessed from the sun's rays and turned into power. This is considered green energy because green energy is a natural source used for energy. Solar power works by special energy cells converting sunlight into a direct current to power houses. Basically the particles of sunlight hits a solar panel. The solar panel then turns this into a direct current which is then used to power electronic things. Solar energy is used very often and has been a growing economy for years. A lot of Americans are now switching and jobs are going up. The future of solar energy is looking good, new advancements are coming out, people are switching and the field overall is improving. Some new advancements for the future are stronger power. Thats right multi terawatt power in panels is one improvement engineers are working on for the future. The panels will be cheaper and that means more affordable. More affordable means people save money and get more power! So more will want to flock to this field and that's a major economy win. Not only will it be cheaper with more power they are also predicted to be easier to produce to keep up with the crowds and having more products for the crowds is just what it needs. The pros of solar energy is that it's renewable, it has a lot of potential for the growing market. Solar energy doesn't cause pollution and it can be contained so we don't have too, too much. It's available all over the world too! Even though this pro is more of an upside to people in general is that it's silent unlike most electric methods. Some cons of this energy is that it can be pricey sometimes, however they are working on it. Another con is that it collects from the sun so it could be a problem when it's cloudy but it does save so you won't be powerless. Space is also a concern because typically these large panels take up your roof but what if your roof isn't applicable it has to be on the ground or elsewhere. To show solar to another green energy here is a compare and contrast of wind and solar.Wind power is more popular than solar in the USA and that is a fact, but wind powers turbines take up way more space than solar panels. If the area you are in is not windy the wind power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Solar Power Importance Solar power is an important aspect of life that people should consider putting in their homes. Solar power is the process of obtaining the energy from the sun and converting it to multiple uses. It can be used to light, heat, and cool homes for cheaper than electric companies. Solar power is created by using a device called a solar panel. Solar panels are used to soak up the sun's rays to create renewable energy for homes and businesses. Solar power is saved during the daylight so that it can be used during the night. If it is a cloudy day; enough energy can be preserved. If it isn't, the solar panel can still get the energy it needs if the sun's rays shine through the clouds. On a cloudy day, the thicker the clouds the less energy obtained(U.S. Department of Energy,2009). Solar power is mostly used in places with the most sunshine. For example, they are majorly used in places in the United States like California, New Mexico, and Arizona. Another good place to have solar panels is in other countries, especially close to the equator. Close to the equator is a good spot for the use of solar panels because the sun's rays are stronger there. The process of creating the Solar panel is not an easy process. Solar panels are made up of mostly different types of silicon and glass–like substances. The process of making them and installing them is costly, but after that they are done, they are fine. A currently inexpensive solar system running at an average of 30% peak capacity due to no sun at night or cloudiness which produces 3 kilowatts will cost $6,552. This system will take about 10 years before it costs less than paying for electricity which has been made from coal. However there are some cases where solar energy makes economic sense. Photovoltaics power remote data storage devices can be highly beneficial where electricity is not available such as poor developing countries. Countries such as Africa use inexpensive solar collection devices for cooking and heating water, special design of new houses and buildings can greatly reduce the cost since much of the house becomes an effective solar collector. At the moment the price of coal is relatively cheap and stable due to easy access and an abundant amount that will last up to 250 years longer. Although solar energy is at disadvantage right now, the availability of "free" sunlight will continue to contribute to the development of new ideas that can make solar power more affordable in the future.
