Overview of Goal Setting Unit
Goal of Instructional Unit Given a prompt, 8th grade students at Wasatch Jr. High will be able to
write a measurable fitness goal using at least 3 principles from the F.I.T.T. principle. After having
written a fitness goal, these students will then be able to evaluate their progress on that goal by using
the F.I.T.T. principle.
Target Population Overview The target population of this instructional unit are 8th grade physical
education students at Wasatch Jr. High. These students are very high achieving students who do very
well on state and district standardized tests. There are 51 students in this 8th grade physical
education class. There are seven students who require special accommodations and no English

Alabama Employee Relations
In the early 20th century, race relations in the United States were at an all–time boiling point. To
maximize profitability and favorable employee relations, mine owners in the South, specifically
Alabama, attempted to capitalize on African–American workers' unrest and contempt with American
capitalism by appealing to them with offers of workplace sanctuaries away from white oppression
and intervention. These mine owners enlisted the help of local African–American preachers to
convey this message via a familiar and trusted entity. In addition to promising optimistic working
and living conditions, the mine owners also used these preachers to push anti–union sentiment on
Alabama's black workforce. The strategy behind these tactics focused on ... Show more content on

Due to the probable lack of mutual trust between management and African–American labor, the
enlistment of black preachers as messengers for the coal mine operators' strategy was meant to
address this hurdle. In doing this, management could convey their aspirations for the widespread
implementation of non–union black labor in the mines more effectively than they could have ever
done so themselves. The newspaper clipping "Condition in the Mining Camp" asserts that it was
necessary for the union to attempt to reach out to Reverend Raymeau, as he clearly had the ear of his
black constituents in conveying the mine owners' message of black, non–union, non–white
sanctuary in the Alabama mines. Considering the apparent desperation on the part of unionized
white workers to get the ear of black preachers, one can assume that the strategy employed was at
least moderately effective to the time of the paper's publishing. Over time, given the materials
provided in this case study, it appears that not only did this strategy bring about a sense of
impending success in the eyes of those it would hurt the most, but also led to somewhat of a shift in
the thoughts and sentiments of prominent mine operators. This shift is most prevalent in the

Essay On Climate Change
The establishment of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
has made efforts to address the effects of climate change. The goal of this convention to facilitate
international efforts discuss commitments to mitigation greenhouse gas emissions within
industrialized and developing countries through annual COPS. Throughout the years, the UNFCCC
has reached many negotiations that have both positive and negative outcomes.
One of the positive outcomes of the UNFCCC is that it has facilitated the international communities
to make contribution to mitigate effects of climate change based on the principle of common, but
differentiated responsibilities (243). This principle is essential because the North and South ... Show

To make matter worst, the U.S withdraw from the signing of the Kyoto Protocol (243). The
UNFCCC could not do anything about these results because it does not have the power to shift the
attitudes of countries to truly embrace an ecocentric lens or practice sustainability for the betterment
of the environment.
Although the results of Kyoto Protocol should not be celebrated, the UNFCCC should still be given
at least some credit for its effort. Another positive outcome from the UNFCCC is that has facilitate
negotiations in the Marrakesh Accord for developed countries to pledge 172.84 million for the
Least–Developed Country Fund to help developing countries secure financial resources to meet
future commitments to mitigate effect of climate change (246). Furthermore, the UNFCCC has
implemented the Paris agreement signed by many countries to reduce emissions and pledge to aid
less developed countries. According to Scientific Journals, China emissions will peak mid 2020s and
does pledge $3.1 billion in aid to climate–vulnerable countries (Holden et.al). Although the Paris
agreement did lead to a positive outcome, the United States withdrawal from Paris is still a negative
outcome. It further highlights the UNFCCC inability to keep a heavy polluter to engage in
sustainability or embrace an ecocentric lens.
The main stumbling block in the outcomes of the UNFCCC is that countries involved in

Communism: An Extreme Form Of Socialism
Communism is an extreme form of socialism in which most things are publicly owned. A
communistic economic system is based on equality and expounds positive and negative effects.
To begin, communism is based on equivalence for all members of a workforce. Communism is an ".
. . economic doctrine that aims to replace private property . . . with public ownership . . . of at least
the major means of production" (Ball). In fact, Christianity has also partially influenced
communism. Holy Bible verses instructed early Christians to "let go of worldly possessions." A
main goal of communism is for social classes to view things as similarly as possible. Selfishness
was greatly discouraged, as it was believed that ownership should be shared of at least ... Show

For example, "The inefficiency of these economies played a large part in the collapse of the Soviet
Union in 1991," (Ball). This shows that communism isn't strong enough to maintain countries. Lots
of countries have left communism behind for this reason. Throughout history, there have been
adverse effects as well. Although the industrial revolution played a part in the creation of
communism, industries have also been badly affected by communism. For example, during the
Russian Civil War, industrial production dropped down to one–fifth of how it was before the war.
This caused wages to drop by two–thirds. Workers decided to stop working because they had been
putting just as much effort into their work as they did before the war, yet they were being paid a lot
less (War Communism).
Last but not least, communism also has some benefits. For instance, the ". . . public ownership of the
major means of production and distribution of goods and services. . . principle" (Ball). This shows
that a majority of things is fairly shared. People have similar visions of the world around them
because of the less social division. As a result, the absence of social classes has also led to more
mingling among people. Poverty is also no longer much of an issue. As all people put their own part
in the workforce, things are equally distributed which prevents a person from becoming poor (Ball).
In all, communism is built upon the principle of equal opportunity and it has its pros and cons. Do

Arts Principles
Chapter 2: Principles for Effective, High–Quality Out–of–School Time Arts Programs
Chapter 2 is centered on ways to implement effective improvements to OST art programs using
stated and latent needs gathered from the participating teens and tweens. Researchers compiled ten
principles that ought to be followed/implemented in order to engage more low–income urban youth.
The ten principles are:
Principle 1: Instructors are professional, practicing artists, and are valued with compensation for
their expertise and investment in their professional development
Principle 2: Executive directors have a public commitment to high–quality arts programs that is
supported by sustained action
Principle 3: Arts programs take place in dedicated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Closing Remarks
In the closing of the article, researchers were able to conclude that the reason we are seeing an
underutilization of OST arts programs amongst low–income urban youth is because of poor past
experiences that have soiled their desire to participate. Ultimately, what the youth that participated
in the team's focus groups said they wanted aligned with the KOL and case–study informed
principles.
Basically, the lesser engaged youth desired the principles utilized in higher quality arts programs by
the highly engaged youth. Researchers go on to suggest that this is the aspect that could lead the
lesser engaged youth to the next level. To fix the damage that has been done, the team suggests that
improving the quality of art programs overall will start to affect an increasing number of youth.
According to this line of thinking, word of mouth will eventually spread, which would greatly
increase.
How It Applies
Although the work that we do may not clearly align with the topic addressed by this article, there are
elements that parallel a couple issues with resident turn–out and an overall lack of full–utilization
when it comes to the resources offered by the CHA. The following are a few of my suggestions and
thoughts, but keep in mind that I am not completely

Why Do Students Procrastinate?
Throughout my college career, there have been many moments where I've procrastinated doing
homework, starting projects and studying for exams. I look back and constantly find myself coming
up with excuses for why I couldn't get an assignment accomplished prior to the night before it's due.
When in reality, the work should have been completed at least a week in advance. However, I'm not
the only one whom delays getting school obligations done. Including myself, numerous college
students struggle with procrastination. Julian Gordan's presentation, "No All–Nighters: How to End
Procrastination & Perfectionism Forever," did an outstanding job at addressing postponing school
work. His principles consisted of comprehending the act of procrastination. Why do students
procrastinate? How do they delay their obligations? And what specifically do they postpone? More
in depth, his examples consisted of the effort–outcome grid, time management, knowing when to
say no, and setting long and short–term goals. All of which I can say have been stable in my life,
especially as a student leader. Continually, the role that I play in the student body gives me a great
advantage in implementing these strategies in other people's life. Of course, I haven't perfected
them, but I believe in everything being a learning experience, so, while implementing these
principles in other people's life, I will keep on being educated along with them.
In defining procrastination, my definition is letting a

What Does Nozick Say That Liberty Upsets Patterns
Justice Paper 2
–Ankur Shah
Nozick says that "liberty upsets patterns." Critically assess this claim. Be sure to: I. Explain what the
quoted phrase means (what Nozick means by "liberty" and by "patterns"); II. Discuss how Rawls
would respond to Nozick's thesis; III. Explain whether Nozick is right that liberty upsets patterns;
IV. If Nozick is right, then discuss whether such "upsetting" of patterns provides a sound reason for
rejecting patterns, or for regulating liberty.

To illustrate the meaning behind "liberty upsets patterns," I will closely examine the Chamberlain's
example. This example demonstrates that free exchange, which rises from the idea of self–
ownership, will upset the patterned distribution. Basically, if people have the right to dispose their
legitimately earned wealth as they see fit. The following outlines the Chamberlain's logic as
presented by Nozick (Pg 160–161) 1. There exists a patterned distribution D1, which is a favorite
patter of non–entitlement conception of justice 2. Wilt Chamberlain, a skilled basketball player who
attracts home crowds, signs a contract where 0.25 is put apart for every home game for him 3. Since
people are excited to see him play, they freely contribute 0.25 towards Wilt Chamberlain. 4. Thus, if
let's say a million people come to watch, Chamberlain ends up with 250,000, which is more than
everyone else. 5. Since the distribution D1 no longer holds, there exist a new distribution where
everyone has 0.25 less than original and Wilt Chamberlain has 250,000 more than original 6. Since,
all exchanges were done with willing participants there was no injustice done in order for the new
distribution to come into place, and therefore D2 is a just distribution.
Now, in order to revert to D1, the wealth acquired by Chamberlain would have to be taken away and
redistributed to its original form. In doing so, Chamberlain's rights to his wealth would be

satisfying their needs, then the result will be obtaining the greatest market shares. In addition,

The 80-20 Rule
The 80–20 rule is a universal principle that states that for any group of people or things that have a
common attribute, 20% of them will have 80% of the attribute. However, the actual 80/20 split
doesn't always hold up in the real world. Sometimes it is 90/10 or 70/30 or some other ratio that
favors unevenness. The main point is that things are not distributed evenly. This observation holds
true for things such as the distribution of wealth among the population, or of the distribution of
talent among the population. It doesn't matter if the talent is musical, athletic, or ability to make
sales. For example, within any business organization, academic school, or sports team, there will
always be a few top performers. As mentioned before, the 80–20 rule doesn't just apply to people.
Vilfredo Pareto for example, the man who first noticed this rule, found that 80% of the peas in his
garden were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exploitation however, is straightforward. Simply spend more time and more resources on the few
things that bring the most results while spending less time and resources on whatever brings in
marginal results. Most of us do this intuitively with our choice of careers. Few people would ignore
their natural talent for engineering to become concert pianists if they had little talent for it. In terms
of inbound marketing, you should use the 80–20 rule in a deliberate way. You will need to have
plenty of data to accurately sort out your top performers from the rest. As an example of this,
suppose you are repurposing your blog content into other content formats such as video, podcasts,
white–papers, ebooks, and slide–shows and are then submitting these to the big distribution centers
for each type of content. This is a fair amount of work and if your time and resources are limited,
you should use the 80–20 rule to choose which content formats to focus

The Difference Principle Essay
The Difference Principle Every citizen aspires to obtain a just society in which to live. Some
political philosophers hold differing opinions as how to reach this just society. One of the more
widely accepted approaches is John Rawl's Difference Principle. To achieve a just society, Rawls
believes in two principles. The first principle states that each person is to have an equal right to the
most extensive basic liberty compatible with a similar liberty for others. The second principle is that
social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both a)reasonably expected to be
to everyone's advantage, and b) attached to positions and offices open to all (Rawls, 60). Within
Rawls' second principle of justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The worst possible outcome in this case would be earning no money at all. The third possibility
would be based on the Difference Principle. This economy has regulated capitalism and protects the
worst off. For instance, with unequal wages, some people will be earning a great deal more than
others. The least advantaged will receive $20,000 dollars no matter what. So we see here, that with
the Difference Principle, we still maintain the society's justice while in the same note raising the
least advantaged citizen's standard of living. Therefore, not only is it a just society, but all members
benefit from the unequal distribution of wealth. With this rise in income, citizens can afford more
than the bare necessities. They will develop a greater capacity to save and will increase their
economic growth over time. These being the facts, all members of society will eventually choose the
difference principle on their own. Rawls states, "Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged
so that they are both to the greatest benefit of the least advantaged, consistent with the just savings
principle". The question now is what determines the least advantaged in a society? Rawls seems to
consider them as members of the lower social class or those who have an income lower than the
society's

Justice, And Nozick's Utilitarian Theory Of Justice
Justice means giving each person what he or she deserves. Justice and fairness are closely related
terms that are often today used interchangeably (Manuel Velasquez, 2014). Similarly distributive
justice is concerned with the fair allocation of resources among different members of the
community. Fair allocation normally takes into account the total amount of goods to be dispersed,
the dispensing procedure, and the pattern of dispersion that results (Maiese, 2013). This essay is
based on distributive justice or fair distribution of social goods in health care setting. Justice is the
most important principle in public health ethics. The main aim of this essay is to recognize the

Here I will be discussing about the john Rawls Justice as Fairness, Mill's utilitarian theory of justice
and Nozick's Libertarian Theory of Justice.
Rawls Justice as Fairness
According to this theory everyone is to have an equal right to the most extensive total system of
equal basic liberties compatible with a similar system of liberty for all (Gray, 2011). In Rawls
general concepts it says that all social primary goods – liberty and opportunity, income and wealth,
and the bases of self–respect – are to be distributed equally unless an unequal distribution of any or
all of these goods is to the advantage of the least favored (Rawls, 1971). Rawls has two principles in
justice as fairness. First principle is liberty and second one is wealth. In principle of liberty everyone
is to have equal right to the most extensive total system of equal basic liberties compatible with a
similar system of liberty for all. In wealth principle Social and economic inequalities are to be
arranged so that they both are:
At the greatest benefit of the least advantaged, consistent with the just savings

4. Corporations have a duty to correct adverse social impacts they cause. GE failed the basic
elements of corporate social responsibility which is to take voluntary actions that go beyond what is
compelled by law, regulations, or other mandates. It not only did not cut its pollution outputs to
below the legally permitted levels, it missed minimum allowable levels completely, according to the
text. Many of the 39 offenses mentioned earlier, most were from pollution hazards. Additionally, GE
failed to correct adverse environmental impact caused by its manufacturing plants. According to the
text, GE was responsible for polluting the Hudson River with toxins from its manufacturing plant in
New York. As oppose to collaborating with governmental agencies utilizing its financial and
corporate positioning to correct or at the very least, mitigate the issue; GE instead spent almost a
half of billion to win the fight against the cleanup efforts.
5. Social responsibility varies with company characteristics such as size, industry, products,
strategies, marketing techniques, locations, internal cultures, and external demands. GE's line of
businesses mostly consisted of 85% manufacturing in the 80's and eventually grew into 70%
services driven. Thus, GE has a greater social obligation to protect the environment because of the

Examining Public Policy and Creating Solutions for Improvement
Reflections on Public Policy
The chosen public policy issue is the ongoing effort within nursing to advance the field through
taking action. In this case, action takes four distinct activities: advocacy, policy, learning as a
lifelong process and involvement in philanthropy. This action can be applied through community–
based participatory research which is a research partnership seeking the involvement of all members
of the community. Under this approach, all participants contribute their knowledge to the process in
an effort to better the quality of life in that community members (Israel et al., 2008). It is because
there are so many under–served populations and in under–serving these populations nursing fails to
live up to its professional and this is a policy change that must be made. This issue of public policy,
that is, the issue of the prevalence of under–served populations which clearly requires changing, and
the role that nursing can play in this public policy process is discussed at length in Burkhardt and
Nathaniel (2013).
To influence public policy, nurses must act as professionals with the ability and the responsibility to
affect the current and future debate over the delivery of health care. This

Belmont Report Ethics
In examining how nanotechnology can eliminate a virus like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

biomedical and behavioral research . . . in order to know what activities ought to undergo review for
the protection of human subjects of research" (The Belmont Report). A researchers first concern is
not the outcomes of the experiment but the participants safety. The Belmont Report states there are
three basic ethical principles: respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The first ethical principle
stated by the Belmont Report is respect for persons. "Respect for persons incorporates at least two
ethical convictions: first, that individuals should be treated as autonomous agents, and second, that
persons with diminished autonomy are entitled to protection" (The Belmont Report). The researcher

Ethical Considerations In Health Care
Abstract
Varying departments, universities, and private corporations have different ways in researching and
determining the ethical components of their programming. These varying elements can influence
communities in many different ways. When examining the values associated, and the public health
considerations we must take into account the following values, as outlined by the University of
Toronto.
Table 1. Individual Liberty Restrictions to liberties should be proportional, necessary, and relevant.
Employ least restrictive means; be equitable.
Protection of the public from harm To protect the public, authorities may infringe individual

`` Still Separate, Still Unequal `` By David Matthews Essay
The battle to achieve a sense of fairness and equality has been relevant amongst humans since the
beginning of time. Advocates who effortlessly argue the need for an equal socioeconomic system
recognize that little to no change has been made throughout time. Philosopher John Rawls's
principles of fairness and equality state that everyone has a right to basic liberties and the greatest
social and economic privileges are granted only if the greatest social and economic benefits are
granted to the most disadvantaged people. The articles, "Still Separate, Still Unequal" by Jonathan
Kozol, "Rethinking Affirmative Action" by David Leonhardt, and "Progress Made, but Science Still
a Man 's World: News" by David Matthews, all illustrate how John Rawls's principles are still not
being realized today to their fullest extent. In Jonathan Kozol's article, he demonstrates how the
educational system in America is still racially divided despite the end of segregation in the 1900s. In
David Leonhardt's article, he conveys the notion that although people have equal rights there still
exists a gap in fairness. In David Matthews's article, he focuses on the fact that women are still
overruled by men in the workplace despite previous strong efforts of gender equality in the United
States. Based on the article "Still Separate, Still Unequal" by Jonathan Kozol, it is clear that John
Rawls's principles are not being realized in today 's society due to a still–segregated educational
system. Kozol

The 's Views On Distributive Justice And Justice
Throughout the world's history there has been a hierarchy in regards to how justice works in a town,
community, province, cities, and countries. Justice to this day still varies depending on where you
are. This is even seen in the many states within America. Many of our great ancestors have
attempted to figure out the best way to run a country going over several different forms of laws and
procedures to make America what it represents, equal equality, a melting pot for all people, age,
race, color, and background. Even today's society that were all living in now battle to find justice
and equality and that is what philosopher John Rawls was looking to do when he came up with his
theory on law and justice. On a basic platform, Rawls is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first basic principle of Rawls states that every person is entitled to all basic rights and freedoms.
Each person in a society, well off or not, have all basic abilities that everyone else has in the society
i.e. voting rights, same pay for equal work, and even the pursuit of happiness. He feels that everyone
that is in a given society should all have equal opportunities to succeed regardless of being born in
an environment that was well off or not.. The second principle of his is equal opportunity principle,
giving everyone a fair shot at office positions as long as you put forth effort and work hard. Looking
at this idea is where he mentions those who have the same motivations and willingness to work hard
should have the same chances of holding office and making laws. Being that each person has the
same opportunities to hold office and make laws this is only able to happen because of the first
principle, which give everyone equal liberties. Both of these principles can be and are applied in
everyday society now and you may not have even recognized it. Lets take a look and see how this is
possible.
Taking a deeper look into the theory of Rawls we can focus on his First and Second principles.
According to Rawls, the first principle being "Each person is to have an equal right to the most
extensive total system of equal basic liberties compatible with a similar system of liberty for all",

Human Reason, By, And The Truth And Sufficiency Of Its...
Human reason, in one sphere of its cognition, is called upon to consider questions, which it cannot
decline, as they are presented by its own nature, but which it cannot answer, as they transcend every
faculty of the mind.
It falls into this difficulty without any fault of its own. It begins with principles, which cannot be
dispensed with in the field of experience, and the truth and sufficiency of which are, at the same
time, insured by experience. With these principles it rises, in obedience to the laws of its own nature,
to ever higher and more remote conditions. But it quickly discovers that, in this way, its labours
must remain ever incomplete, because new questions never cease to present themselves; and thus it
finds itself compelled to have recourse to principles which transcend the region of experience, while
they are regarded by common sense without distrust. It thus falls into confusion and contradictions,
from which it conjectures the presence of latent errors, which, however, it is unable to discover,
because the principles it employs, transcending the limits of experience, cannot be tested by that
criterion. The arena of these endless contests is called Metaphysic.

Rawls' Difference Principle and its Compatibility with Democratic Equality
Introduction
With a limited availability of wealth and resources, all societies are posed with a common dilemma:
how ought these goods be distributed among members of the community in a way that is just? In A
Theory of Justice, John Rawls, an influential political philosopher of the 20th century, attempts to
provide a solution to this dilemma by presenting a hypothetical situation, known as the Original
Position, in which multiple parties determine the principles that will constitute the basic structure of
the society they will live in. In order to ensure that the party members make their choices impartially

The other component of Rawls' justification of inequalities is the difference principle. It holds that
inequalities in wealth and social status are permitted just in case that they benefit the least well–off.
Thus, "Injustice [...] is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all (Rawls, 1971)." Rawls
suggests that the least well–off can be defined as those who occupy the class of unskilled workers
and hold the least amount of wealth in society. He also suggests that inequalities be evaluated
through an 'index of primary goods'. Primary goods are those that are essential for one to exercise
his moral powers, such as rights and liberties, power and opportunity, and health and intelligence
(Quong, 2017). Thus, the index of primary goods is representative of one's expectations of having
the necessary primary goods in order to function as a citizen while exercising his moral powers.
Examples of permissible inequalities as according to the difference principle lie in idea of incentive.
For instance, Rawls argues that inequalities in income are just, because they provide an incentive to
work and contribute to the overall well–being of the society. Thus, the skilled or 'talented' workers
of the society would require more income in order to stay productive. Without the higher income as
an incentive, the talented workers would not be as productive, which in turn negatively impacts the
least well–off, as there

An Ethical Dilemma Regarding The Hiring Of A New Organization
The FIDA organization faces an ethical dilemma regarding the hiring of a new organizational leader.
Consideration is being given to someone who expects a salary far outside FIDA's ethical compass
used to establish salaries. Applying either a care ethics or the Rawls's difference principle of ethical
reasoning to the circumstance supports not hiring the person. However, applying the Rawls's
difference principle provides the stronger argument in support of this decision, as it allows the
decision–maker to impartially determine if the decision is just and fair for the broadest group of key
stakeholders affected.
As a global justice organization, FIDA employs a hiring policy that provides for a limit on the salary
of employees to be hired. Thus, the highest paid salary will not exceed three times that which is paid
to the lowest paid member of the organization. However, FIDA needs a new chief executive officer
and is considering a candidate, Joan, who wants three times the outgoing officer's salary. Joan has
indicated that she is worthy of the higher salary as she can significantly increase funds raised.
Applying the Rawls's difference principle would support hiring Joan at the higher salary only if it
resulted in a greater share of resources available to all stakeholders and benefited the least well off
of that group. Therefore, the key stakeholders must be identified and it must be determined whether
they would be better off under the circumstances.

The Importance Of Matching Principles
While I am still not happy with the grade that I received on this exam, I am seeing improvement not
only within my understanding of the class, but also within my assignments. I feel that this exam was
a huge step forward from my first exam. While I did receive a lower grade than my first exam if the
curve is not added in, I know that this is not anything to feel ashamed of. The reason my grade was
lower was simply because I did not have sufficient time to finish the exam. I spent too long
attempting to balance the bank reconciliation and did not have time to check over any of my work,
including the few questions that I had decided to save for the end, or the questions that I had marked
to double check. I also was unable to even begin the last page. Instead, I circled and wrote random
answers. I feel that this exam was too long for the class period. I genuinely believe that I understood
the material and would have vastly improved from my first exam if given a larger time frame. While
yes I now understand that I should have moved on instead of taking extra time to balance the bank
reconciliation, I am glad that this was my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

able to identify the principle in question as matching, but was not at all aware of the four guideline
of the principle itself. When it was brought up in class what could have been different on the exam
for the class to have further excelled and a student answered that he did not believe that class
dedicated enough time to certain portions of the exam, I believe that this may have been one of the

Egalitarianism In John Rawls : A Feminist Society
Rejecting the strict egalitarianism, Rawls does not support a laissez faire society where people are
entitled to their self–ownership of their wealth. They have the rights to their property. However, this
view ignores Rawls's emphasis on the original position. Rawls notes that, under the veil of
ignorance, no one knows his social status or his fortune in the distribution of natural assets and
abilities. (572) However, the best well off might enjoy their wealth only because they are fortunate
to born in a decent environment. This morally arbitrary fact remains an accident of natural
endowment which the person cannot choose. Bezos was born in a rich family which was among the
largest landholders in Texas. He graduated from an Ivy League school which most people could not
attend. In addition, a research on 38 colleges indicates that more students came from the top 1
percent of the income scale than from the entire bottom 60 percent. These examples indicate that the
advantaged begin their life at a more advanced starting point which they could not decide. Rawls
would argue that these morally arbitrary privileged claims on the wealth do not constitute a just
society. A just society, in contrast, needs to provide fair equality of opportunity ((2)(a) of Rawls's
theory of justice) which puts everyone at a same starting point. For instance, a just society gives
equal access to education or equal job application process.
What if people start at the same level but everyone is rewarded

Benefits Of A Living Wage
In order to achieve a more equal society those in the position of the least well off must have their
standard of living improved. The inclusion of a living wage in our society would greatly benefit
those in that position who are stricken by poverty. I will argue in favour of a living wage for those
who would benefit most from it, the marginalized. The living wage project seeks to promote
business's paying their employees a living wage rather than a minimum wage in the hopes of giving
families a decent standard of living. For Regina Saskatchewan the living wage for a family of four is
projected to be $16.46 an hour for each parent. This allows for a family to participate in various
recreational and community activities while keeping a modest amount of money for emergencies but
doesn't allow them to save for things like university education or retirement. (Gingrich, Banks, &
Enoch, 2014, p. 5–7) A living wage not only provides a solution to families living in poverty but
relieves many stresses associated with financial worries. Parents with more money could then take
care of their family better as having more stable finances means a family can afford to eat more
nutritious foods and afford medicine resulting in fewer days spent away from work due to illness
(Gingrich, Banks, & Enoch, 2014, p. 9–10). This then benefits employers as their employees are not
only happier but healthier as well, this also improves employee loyalty while making the company
or brand look better. In

The World Is A Complex Changing Environment
The world is a complex changing environment. Due to globalization, we as a nation are more
interconnected with the world around us and are affected by other nations. In the 21st century, we
have witnessed the rise of a new enemy, motivated by religious ideology, which is waging a war that
cannot be won through traditional means. If the United States Army wants to win in this changing
environment, there needs to be focused, sustained and collaborative efforts that unify capabilities
across war fighting functions to address the needs of the new world to accomplish the mission. The
Army does this by asking questions that will help to shape the future force. These questions come
from the Army Warfighting Challenges (AWFCs) which is a framework ... Show more content on

The Force 2025 concept is the physical and intellectual activities that help leaders integrate future
capabilities, and develop interim solutions to warfighting challenges through adapting, evolving and
innovating. This allows the Army to translate big ideas into concrete actions to improve the future
force.
Adapt
The Army must adapt faster than enemies and potential adversaries in order to retain the competitive
advantage in organizational, operational, and tactical missions and planning. To adapt, the Army will
modify its existing capabilities or decisions that adjust the balance between force structure,
readiness, and modernization.
Evolve
The Army must evolve to transform and develop its existing capabilities into a more complex or
better form. The Army accomplishes this through the use of DOD and Army resourcing processes
like the Program Objective Memorandum (POM), long–range investment requirement analysis
(LIRA), and the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS). The Army then
works to ensure that the material solutions are integrated fully with existing capabilities across
DOTMLPF solutions.
Innovate
The Army innovates by introducing new products or creating new uses for older designs and testing
these through applied research. The Army will work to balance the near–term requirements with
future development investments so there is always continuous innovation. Army

The Principle Of Distributive Justice
example, immunization programs, research opportunities, harmful practices, financial assistance,
etc. (Munson, 2014).
Principle of Utility
The principle of utility is essentially the balance between the principles of beneficence and non–
maleficence. It is defined as acting a manner that produces the greatest benefit and the least harm to
an individual (Munson, 2014). This principle is significant in healthcare because it can be applied by
healthcare professionals to help weigh the benefits of test and treatments compared to the harm. For
example, if a medical diagnosis suggests that treatment through surgery is the best option for a
patient, but the physician believes that the patient is not a candidate for surgery due to the patient's
medical condition, the physician is practicing the principle of utility. Healthcare professionals must
consider the harm and possible death (morbidity and mortality) of the patient before proceeding with
diagnosis, surgery, and treatment (Munson, 2014).
Principle of Distributive Justice Human beings all have the right to be treated justly or fairly. The
principle of distributive justice is a form of comparative justice – the application of laws/rules and
the distribution of burdens and benefits (Munson, 2014). Distributive justice specifically deals with
the distribution of benefits, such as healthcare benefits. If a patient cannot pay for healthcare, if the
patient is not education, if the patient is not a working member of

Special Education's History
All children have the right to an education, regardless of disability. However, children with
disabilities have not always had that right provided to them. Research and knowledge–based
evidence throughout the last century has greatly changed educators' opinions and positions on
special education. A key point that will be discussed in this essay is the enactment of the Individuals
with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as well as current and future challenges of special education.
The initial creation and development of our educational system disregarded the needs of children
with disabilities. Because of very limited educational options, most disabled children were either
educated in their homes or their parents paid for them to attend expensive ... Show more content on

Additionally, schools cannot discriminate against children based on their "race, culture or native
language" (Heward, 2009, p. 19). This means that tests must be presented to the student in their
native language.
Children with disabilities should be able to learn alongside children without disabilities. Inclusion in
the general classroom for children with disabilities is required under the Least Restrictive
Environment principle (Heward, 2009). The only time a child should be moved out of the general
classroom is when his or her disabilities prevent him or her from receiving an appropriate education
(Heward, 2009).
Just as with all individuals in the United States, children with disabilities and their parents have
rights. Schools are required, under the Due Process Safeguards rule, to support and protect the rights
of children with disabilities and their parents (Heward, 2009). This includes obtaining the parent's
consent before doing any testing with the student, as well as providing student records to the parents
(Heward, 2009).
Lastly, schools must make a collaborative effort to work with students with disabilities and their
parents. Collaborating on all levels is necessary and includes planning, designing, implementing,
and evaluating the special education provided, as well as encouraging the child to succeed. Ensuring

Mixed Culture And The Criminal Justice System
Culture concerns and influences, in conjunction with mixed culture, have a great effect on the justice
system we see in place today. Throughout this paper, these topics, as well as contemporary methods
that are used in societies of mixed culture and their relatedness and effect on nondiscrimination
policies will be analyzes and discussed. The nine principles related to Sir Robert Peel's position on
policing and the implications his theory may or may not have on organizing a police department in
America in today's day and age will also be examined. America has been deemed, and has always
been, a 'melting pot' cultures, and with this mixing of very diverse cultures comes many different

Because it is unreasonable to think that every member of the criminal justice system was raised with
exposure and understanding of all cultures, it is imperative that the officer (or any form of
government) makes an effort to become culturally competent, especially in the cultures that they
primarily work with. The direct effect the mixing of so many cultures has on the justice system is
that it is constantly being challenged, reformed, and changed. When trying to create a black–and–
white set of laws, it is nearly impossible to encompass multiple cultures, for example many
European countries are doing away with capital punishment, which has been in practice for
thousands of years, because of the cultural shift deeming it as cruel and unusual punishment– and
while in America there are still states that utilize capital punishment, it is obviously there is a similar
trend here in its decline of supporters. There are many contemporary methods used in societies of
mixed cultures. There are many motions set into place to create a fair and level justice system for all
of the people who may come into contact with it. On the most basic level, there is a trial given to
those accused of a crime in front of a jury of their peers, with emphasis on a jury of peers. This is
important because it allows the jurors to have an understanding of the

Disadvantages Of Complementary Interpretation
3 Complementary Interpretation among RT and CP
3.1 Basis of Complementary Interpretation
From what has been discussed above, it can be concluded that because of the differences of subject
in diverse verbal communication, the complication of discourse comprehension, and the variability
of context, any single theory is insufficient to explain the whole picture of utterance. CP and RT
respectively own their distinctive advantages and disadvantages, so as to induction of their
differences in various aspects is necessary to examine whether the two theories can be reciprocally
complemented..

Aside from both being important theories of pragmatics field, there's another significant similarity
between the two, from the author's perspective. Generally speaking, the core of Cooperative
Principle is that communicators in a conversation will work together towards the final purpose of
utterance –– in other words, they share a common purpose or at least a common direction of
acceptance. At every stage of the conversation, in accordance with the needs of meeting
communication purpose or with the direction of acceptance, people are willing to make their due
contributions. Relevance Theory states that by the act of making an utterance the speaker is
conveying that what they have said is worth listening to, and it will provide "cognitive effects"
worthy of the processing effort required to find the meaning. It can be translated as the speaker only
has to convey as much information as needed in any given context, so that the audience can recover
his/her intended meaning from what was said as well as from the context and implications. It
coincides with the quantity and quality maxim of Cooperative

Social Contract Theory In Nursing
There comes a time where one tries to come in terms with what they want to do in life and
determine how they are going to reach that goal. In reality, there are many obstacles that are going to
come in one's way, but the only way to conquer it is determining what they can do, and what type of
effort they put forth. There are moral theories that can be used into the career/life goal that is set for
me as an individual. At this moment, the career goal that I set for myself is being able to become a
pediatrician, or a nurse. There are times when things get complicated with choosing what I actually
want to do, but that's all about life. With me wanting to further my education with a major in

Friedman Equality Before God
Q1: The different kinds of equality discussed by the Friedman's are equality before God; equality of
opportunity; equality of outcome. The legitimate kind is equality of opportunity which leads to a

The Book Successful Women Think Differently Essay
Analysis on the book Successful Women Think Differently
The book Successful Women Think Differently by Valorie Burton reveals the thought process of
how successful women think and how to maintain empowerment through adversity. Burton
expresses how to cultivate relationships as well as communicating effectively through thinking with
a sense of purpose and distinction. In the book Successful Women Think Differently, Burton wants
readers to learn nine habits and seven key principles to cultivate certain ways to think through any
problematic situation. Burton believes that she can help the reader create new thought processes that
strengthen thinking differently in order to set higher personal and professional goals for oneself. The
ability to bounce back from failure is certainly not an easy task, but implementing these steps
creates "safety nets" of comfort, and encouragement. According to Burton, the key decisions
contribute to restoring peace from within, building confidence, and boosting happiness during hard
times. Burton's introduction of the nine habits mainly teaches women how to navigate obstacles
when they come. She uses illustrations of various workshops and real life stories of women who
have found that harmony of purpose, resilience, and joy that defines success. Consequently, Burton
is asking the reader to commit and execute seven key decisions that are simple, profound, and easy
to follow in order to obtain the nine habits earlier stated.

The Pros And Cons Of The Kantian Universalization Principle
Comedian Robert Orben joked, "There is so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our
lungs there'd be no place to put it all." As Homer Simpson famously said, this joke is "funny because
it's true." The pollution of Earth has been going on for decades, but recently scientists have been
pushing very hard for practices that do not harm our planet. In 2006, the first Environmental
Performance Index (EPI) was published, ranking countries on how well they are protecting Earth
with their policies and practices. Who doesn't love a little competition? One would think America
would love a competition, looking at their competitive market economy. But America is not faring

controlling Congress blocking efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency to keep water meant
for drinking, recreation, and development safe. After the Clean Water Rule was released, the House
and Senate passed a resolution against the regulations. Congress thought it gave the government too
much control over water supplies for farmers, landowners, and developers who would now need a

The Harm Principle John Mill Summary
Firstly, we need to analyze what John Mill states with the passage which is the Harm Principle. Mill
main concern was the way that someone can control another person. Mill believes that the right to
control someone else can only be "warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the
liberty of action of any of their number, is self–protection" ( Mill ) I believe that Mill is saying that
people's liberty and freedom should not be controlled unless they are going to harm someone else.
By harm, I think he is referring to injuring someone's rights and impeding on things that will benefit
the person. Mill the says that "{T}he only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over
any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others" (Mill )In my
opinion he is saying that the only time someone who has the power such as the government can step
in and limit someone's actions is if that person would cause harm to someone. The last part of the
passage is "His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant."( Mill ). From this
statement, I concluded that people can essentially do what they want to themselves as authority has
no power over what they do to themselves also that if someone physically harms you or if
something that a person says or does is against your morals it is not a good enough reason for the
government to step in. All in all this passage states that there is a limit on the authorities action, it
distinguishes between when the government is allowed to interfere in an individual's life and when
is not. This passage does not only limit the authorities ability to interfere it also limits the public's
ability to interfere, just because something is unacceptable by the majority doesn't give people the
ability to interfere, for example, if someone is acting immorally but not causing harm it is not
justified to step in.
Mill is a libertarian, which means he believed that everyone's liberty and freedom should be
protected, Mill views liberty as "The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our
own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs or impede their
efforts to obtain it." ( Mill )

Public Policy And Creating Solutions For Improvement Essay
Examining Public Policy and Creating Solutions for Improvement
Reflections on Public Policy The chosen public policy issue is the ongoing effort within nursing to
advance the field through taking action. In this case, action takes four distinct activities: advocacy,
policy, learning as a lifelong process and involvement in philanthropy. This action can be applied
through community–based participatory research which is a research partnership seeking the
involvement of all members of the community. Under this approach, all participants contribute their
knowledge to the process in an effort to better the quality of life in that community members (Israel
et al., 2008). It is because there are so many under–served populations and in under–serving these
populations nursing fails to live up to its professional and this is a policy change that must be made.
This issue of public policy, that is, the issue of the prevalence of under–served populations which
clearly requires changing, and the role that nursing can play in this public policy process is
discussed at length in Burkhardt and Nathaniel (2013).
To influence public policy, nurses must act as professionals with the ability and the responsibility to
affect the current and future debate over the delivery of health care. This would seem natural enough
as nursing is based on the principle that all people are of value and their health should be advanced
throughout every socioeconomic tier of society (Brown,

Examples Of Social Determinants Of Health
The determinants of health as stated in the report are social and nonmedcial factors. They are related
to "employment income, housing, transportation, child care, education, discrimination, and the
quality of the places where people live, work, learn and play, which influence health" (Braveman et
al., pg. 14). The reason why they are considered social determinants is because there are guidelines
created by the government in which it affects the quality of life a person has. As well as what may
be accessible to them based on the "social policy"; "presumably because the provision of medical
care is the responsibility of social policy" (Braveman et al., pg. 14).

  • 3. Alabama Employee Relations In the early 20th century, race relations in the United States were at an all–time boiling point. To maximize profitability and favorable employee relations, mine owners in the South, specifically Alabama, attempted to capitalize on African–American workers' unrest and contempt with American capitalism by appealing to them with offers of workplace sanctuaries away from white oppression and intervention. These mine owners enlisted the help of local African–American preachers to convey this message via a familiar and trusted entity. In addition to promising optimistic working and living conditions, the mine owners also used these preachers to push anti–union sentiment on Alabama's black workforce. The strategy behind these tactics focused on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the probable lack of mutual trust between management and African–American labor, the enlistment of black preachers as messengers for the coal mine operators' strategy was meant to address this hurdle. In doing this, management could convey their aspirations for the widespread implementation of non–union black labor in the mines more effectively than they could have ever done so themselves. The newspaper clipping "Condition in the Mining Camp" asserts that it was necessary for the union to attempt to reach out to Reverend Raymeau, as he clearly had the ear of his black constituents in conveying the mine owners' message of black, non–union, non–white sanctuary in the Alabama mines. Considering the apparent desperation on the part of unionized white workers to get the ear of black preachers, one can assume that the strategy employed was at least moderately effective to the time of the paper's publishing. Over time, given the materials provided in this case study, it appears that not only did this strategy bring about a sense of impending success in the eyes of those it would hurt the most, but also led to somewhat of a shift in the thoughts and sentiments of prominent mine operators. This shift is most prevalent in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay On Climate Change The establishment of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has made efforts to address the effects of climate change. The goal of this convention to facilitate international efforts discuss commitments to mitigation greenhouse gas emissions within industrialized and developing countries through annual COPS. Throughout the years, the UNFCCC has reached many negotiations that have both positive and negative outcomes. One of the positive outcomes of the UNFCCC is that it has facilitated the international communities to make contribution to mitigate effects of climate change based on the principle of common, but differentiated responsibilities (243). This principle is essential because the North and South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To make matter worst, the U.S withdraw from the signing of the Kyoto Protocol (243). The UNFCCC could not do anything about these results because it does not have the power to shift the attitudes of countries to truly embrace an ecocentric lens or practice sustainability for the betterment of the environment. Although the results of Kyoto Protocol should not be celebrated, the UNFCCC should still be given at least some credit for its effort. Another positive outcome from the UNFCCC is that has facilitate negotiations in the Marrakesh Accord for developed countries to pledge 172.84 million for the Least–Developed Country Fund to help developing countries secure financial resources to meet future commitments to mitigate effect of climate change (246). Furthermore, the UNFCCC has implemented the Paris agreement signed by many countries to reduce emissions and pledge to aid less developed countries. According to Scientific Journals, China emissions will peak mid 2020s and does pledge $3.1 billion in aid to climate–vulnerable countries (Holden et.al). Although the Paris agreement did lead to a positive outcome, the United States withdrawal from Paris is still a negative outcome. It further highlights the UNFCCC inability to keep a heavy polluter to engage in sustainability or embrace an ecocentric lens. • 9. Communism: An Extreme Form Of Socialism Communism is an extreme form of socialism in which most things are publicly owned. A communistic economic system is based on equality and expounds positive and negative effects. To begin, communism is based on equivalence for all members of a workforce. Communism is an ". . . economic doctrine that aims to replace private property . . . with public ownership . . . of at least the major means of production" (Ball). In fact, Christianity has also partially influenced communism. Holy Bible verses instructed early Christians to "let go of worldly possessions." A main goal of communism is for social classes to view things as similarly as possible. Selfishness was greatly discouraged, as it was believed that ownership should be shared of at least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, "The inefficiency of these economies played a large part in the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991," (Ball). This shows that communism isn't strong enough to maintain countries. Lots of countries have left communism behind for this reason. Throughout history, there have been adverse effects as well. Although the industrial revolution played a part in the creation of communism, industries have also been badly affected by communism. For example, during the Russian Civil War, industrial production dropped down to one–fifth of how it was before the war. This caused wages to drop by two–thirds. Workers decided to stop working because they had been putting just as much effort into their work as they did before the war, yet they were being paid a lot less (War Communism). Last but not least, communism also has some benefits. For instance, the ". . . public ownership of the major means of production and distribution of goods and services. . . principle" (Ball). This shows that a majority of things is fairly shared. People have similar visions of the world around them because of the less social division. As a result, the absence of social classes has also led to more mingling among people. Poverty is also no longer much of an issue. As all people put their own part in the workforce, things are equally distributed which prevents a person from becoming poor (Ball). In all, communism is built upon the principle of equal opportunity and it has its pros and cons. Do you think the pros are worth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arts Principles Chapter 2: Principles for Effective, High–Quality Out–of–School Time Arts Programs Chapter 2 is centered on ways to implement effective improvements to OST art programs using stated and latent needs gathered from the participating teens and tweens. Researchers compiled ten principles that ought to be followed/implemented in order to engage more low–income urban youth. The ten principles are: Principle 1: Instructors are professional, practicing artists, and are valued with compensation for their expertise and investment in their professional development Principle 2: Executive directors have a public commitment to high–quality arts programs that is supported by sustained action Principle 3: Arts programs take place in dedicated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Closing Remarks In the closing of the article, researchers were able to conclude that the reason we are seeing an underutilization of OST arts programs amongst low–income urban youth is because of poor past experiences that have soiled their desire to participate. Ultimately, what the youth that participated in the team's focus groups said they wanted aligned with the KOL and case–study informed principles. Basically, the lesser engaged youth desired the principles utilized in higher quality arts programs by the highly engaged youth. Researchers go on to suggest that this is the aspect that could lead the lesser engaged youth to the next level. To fix the damage that has been done, the team suggests that improving the quality of art programs overall will start to affect an increasing number of youth. According to this line of thinking, word of mouth will eventually spread, which would greatly increase. How It Applies Although the work that we do may not clearly align with the topic addressed by this article, there are elements that parallel a couple issues with resident turn–out and an overall lack of full–utilization when it comes to the resources offered by the CHA. The following are a few of my suggestions and thoughts, but keep in mind that I am not completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Why Do Students Procrastinate? Throughout my college career, there have been many moments where I've procrastinated doing homework, starting projects and studying for exams. I look back and constantly find myself coming up with excuses for why I couldn't get an assignment accomplished prior to the night before it's due. When in reality, the work should have been completed at least a week in advance. However, I'm not the only one whom delays getting school obligations done. Including myself, numerous college students struggle with procrastination. Julian Gordan's presentation, "No All–Nighters: How to End Procrastination & Perfectionism Forever," did an outstanding job at addressing postponing school work. His principles consisted of comprehending the act of procrastination. Why do students procrastinate? How do they delay their obligations? And what specifically do they postpone? More in depth, his examples consisted of the effort–outcome grid, time management, knowing when to say no, and setting long and short–term goals. All of which I can say have been stable in my life, especially as a student leader. Continually, the role that I play in the student body gives me a great advantage in implementing these strategies in other people's life. Of course, I haven't perfected them, but I believe in everything being a learning experience, so, while implementing these principles in other people's life, I will keep on being educated along with them. In defining procrastination, my definition is letting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. What Does Nozick Say That Liberty Upsets Patterns Justice Paper 2 –Ankur Shah Nozick says that "liberty upsets patterns." Critically assess this claim. Be sure to: I. Explain what the quoted phrase means (what Nozick means by "liberty" and by "patterns"); II. Discuss how Rawls would respond to Nozick's thesis; III. Explain whether Nozick is right that liberty upsets patterns; IV. If Nozick is right, then discuss whether such "upsetting" of patterns provides a sound reason for rejecting patterns, or for regulating liberty. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– "Liberty upsets patterns" In his book "Anarchy, state and utopia", Nozick provides a moral defense for Libertarianism, which is traditionally defined as "the advocacy of individual liberty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate the meaning behind "liberty upsets patterns," I will closely examine the Chamberlain's example. This example demonstrates that free exchange, which rises from the idea of self– ownership, will upset the patterned distribution. Basically, if people have the right to dispose their legitimately earned wealth as they see fit. The following outlines the Chamberlain's logic as presented by Nozick (Pg 160–161) 1. There exists a patterned distribution D1, which is a favorite patter of non–entitlement conception of justice 2. Wilt Chamberlain, a skilled basketball player who attracts home crowds, signs a contract where 0.25 is put apart for every home game for him 3. Since people are excited to see him play, they freely contribute 0.25 towards Wilt Chamberlain. 4. Thus, if let's say a million people come to watch, Chamberlain ends up with 250,000, which is more than everyone else. 5. Since the distribution D1 no longer holds, there exist a new distribution where everyone has 0.25 less than original and Wilt Chamberlain has 250,000 more than original 6. Since, all exchanges were done with willing participants there was no injustice done in order for the new distribution to come into place, and therefore D2 is a just distribution. Now, in order to revert to D1, the wealth acquired by Chamberlain would have to be taken away and redistributed to its original form. In doing so, Chamberlain's rights to his wealth would be ... • 19. The 80-20 Rule The 80–20 rule is a universal principle that states that for any group of people or things that have a common attribute, 20% of them will have 80% of the attribute. However, the actual 80/20 split doesn't always hold up in the real world. Sometimes it is 90/10 or 70/30 or some other ratio that favors unevenness. The main point is that things are not distributed evenly. This observation holds true for things such as the distribution of wealth among the population, or of the distribution of talent among the population. It doesn't matter if the talent is musical, athletic, or ability to make sales. For example, within any business organization, academic school, or sports team, there will always be a few top performers. As mentioned before, the 80–20 rule doesn't just apply to people. In terms of inbound marketing, you should use the 80–20 rule in a deliberate way. You will need to have plenty of data to accurately sort out your top performers from the rest. As an example of this, suppose you are repurposing your blog content into other content formats such as video, podcasts, white–papers, ebooks, and slide–shows and are then submitting these to the big distribution centers for each type of content. • 23. The Difference Principle Essay The Difference Principle Every citizen aspires to obtain a just society in which to live. Some political philosophers hold differing opinions as how to reach this just society. One of the more widely accepted approaches is John Rawl's Difference Principle. To achieve a just society, Rawls believes in two principles. The first principle states that each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive basic liberty compatible with a similar liberty for others. The second principle is that social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both a)reasonably expected to be to everyone's advantage, and b) attached to positions and offices open to all (Rawls, 60). Within Rawls' second principle of justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The worst possible outcome in this case would be earning no money at all. The third possibility would be based on the Difference Principle. This economy has regulated capitalism and protects the worst off. For instance, with unequal wages, some people will be earning a great deal more than others. The least advantaged will receive $20,000 dollars no matter what. So we see here, that with the Difference Principle, we still maintain the society's justice while in the same note raising the least advantaged citizen's standard of living. Therefore, not only is it a just society, but all members benefit from the unequal distribution of wealth. With this rise in income, citizens can afford more than the bare necessities. They will develop a greater capacity to save and will increase their economic growth over time. These being the facts, all members of society will eventually choose the difference principle on their own. Rawls states, "Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both to the greatest benefit of the least advantaged, consistent with the just savings principle". The question now is what determines the least advantaged in a society? Rawls seems to consider them as members of the lower social class or those who have an income lower than the society's ... Justice and fairness are closely related terms that are often today used interchangeably (Manuel Velasquez, 2014). Similarly distributive justice is concerned with the fair allocation of resources among different members of the community. Fair allocation normally takes into account the total amount of goods to be dispersed, the dispensing procedure, and the pattern of dispersion that results (Maiese, 2013). This essay is based on distributive justice or fair distribution of social goods in health care setting. Justice is the most important principle in public health ethics. Rawls Justice as Fairness According to this theory everyone is to have an equal right to the most extensive total system of equal basic liberties compatible with a similar system of liberty for all (Gray, 2011). In Rawls general concepts it says that all social primary goods – liberty and opportunity, income and wealth, and the bases of self–respect – are to be distributed equally unless an unequal distribution of any or all of these goods is to the advantage of the least favored (Rawls, 1971). Rawls has two principles in justice as fairness. First principle is liberty and second one is wealth. In principle of liberty everyone is to have equal right to the most extensive total system of equal basic liberties compatible with a similar system of liberty for all. Running head:EXAMINING PUBLIC POLICY AND CREATING Examining Public Policy and Creating Solutions for Improvement Rowe Western Governors University Examining Public Policy and Creating Solutions for Improvement Reflections on Public Policy The chosen public policy issue is the ongoing effort within nursing to advance the field through taking action. In this case, action takes four distinct activities: advocacy, policy, learning as a lifelong process and involvement in philanthropy. This action can be applied through community– based participatory research which is a research partnership seeking the involvement of all members of the community. Under this approach, all participants contribute their knowledge to the process in an effort to better the quality of life in that community members (Israel et al., 2008). It is because there are so many under–served populations and in under–serving these populations nursing fails to live up to its professional and this is a policy change that must be made. This issue of public policy, that is, the issue of the prevalence of under–served populations which clearly requires changing, and the role that nursing can play in this public policy process is discussed at length in Burkhardt and Nathaniel (2013). To influence public policy, nurses must act as professionals with the ability and the responsibility to affect the current and future debate over the delivery of health care. This ... • 36. `` Still Separate, Still Unequal `` By David Matthews Essay The battle to achieve a sense of fairness and equality has been relevant amongst humans since the beginning of time. Advocates who effortlessly argue the need for an equal socioeconomic system recognize that little to no change has been made throughout time. Philosopher John Rawls's principles of fairness and equality state that everyone has a right to basic liberties and the greatest social and economic privileges are granted only if the greatest social and economic benefits are granted to the most disadvantaged people. The articles, "Still Separate, Still Unequal" by Jonathan Kozol, "Rethinking Affirmative Action" by David Leonhardt, and "Progress Made, but Science Still a Man 's World: News" by David Matthews, all illustrate how John Rawls's principles are still not being realized today to their fullest extent. In Jonathan Kozol's article, he demonstrates how the educational system in America is still racially divided despite the end of segregation in the 1900s. In David Leonhardt's article, he conveys the notion that although people have equal rights there still exists a gap in fairness. In David Matthews's article, he focuses on the fact that women are still overruled by men in the workplace despite previous strong efforts of gender equality in the United States. Based on the article "Still Separate, Still Unequal" by Jonathan Kozol, it is clear that John Rawls's principles are not being realized in today 's society due to a still–segregated educational system. Each person in a society, well off or not, have all basic abilities that everyone else has in the society i.e. voting rights, same pay for equal work, and even the pursuit of happiness. He feels that everyone that is in a given society should all have equal opportunities to succeed regardless of being born in an environment that was well off or not.. The second principle of his is equal opportunity principle, giving everyone a fair shot at office positions as long as you put forth effort and work hard. Looking at this idea is where he mentions those who have the same motivations and willingness to work hard should have the same chances of holding office and making laws. Being that each person has the same opportunities to hold office and make laws this is only able to happen because of the first principle, which give everyone equal liberties. Both of these principles can be and are applied in everyday society now and you may not have even recognized it. Lets take a look and see how this is possible. Human reason, in one sphere of its cognition, is called upon to consider questions, which it cannot decline, as they are presented by its own nature, but which it cannot answer, as they transcend every faculty of the mind. It falls into this difficulty without any fault of its own. It begins with principles, which cannot be dispensed with in the field of experience, and the truth and sufficiency of which are, at the same time, insured by experience. With these principles it rises, in obedience to the laws of its own nature, to ever higher and more remote conditions. But it quickly discovers that, in this way, its labours must remain ever incomplete, because new questions never cease to present themselves; and thus it finds itself compelled to have recourse to principles which transcend the region of experience, while they are regarded by common sense without distrust. It thus falls into confusion and contradictions, from which it conjectures the presence of latent errors, which, however, it is unable to discover, because the principles it employs, transcending the limits of experience, cannot be tested by that criterion. The arena of these endless contests is called Metaphysic. Time was, when she was the queen of all the sciences; and, if we take the will for the deed, she certainly deserves, so far as regards the high importance of her object–matter, this title of honour. Daisy Duong Professor Quong PHIL 174 23 September 2017 Rawls' Difference Principle and its Compatibility with Democratic Equality Introduction With a limited availability of wealth and resources, all societies are posed with a common dilemma: how ought these goods be distributed among members of the community in a way that is just? In A Theory of Justice, John Rawls, an influential political philosopher of the 20th century, attempts to provide a solution to this dilemma by presenting a hypothetical situation, known as the Original Position, in which multiple parties determine the principles that will constitute the basic structure of the society they will live in. In order to ensure that the party members make their choices impartially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other component of Rawls' justification of inequalities is the difference principle. It holds that inequalities in wealth and social status are permitted just in case that they benefit the least well–off. Thus, "Injustice [...] is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all (Rawls, 1971)." Rawls suggests that the least well–off can be defined as those who occupy the class of unskilled workers and hold the least amount of wealth in society. He also suggests that inequalities be evaluated through an 'index of primary goods'. Primary goods are those that are essential for one to exercise his moral powers, such as rights and liberties, power and opportunity, and health and intelligence (Quong, 2017). Thus, the index of primary goods is representative of one's expectations of having the necessary primary goods in order to function as a citizen while exercising his moral powers. Examples of permissible inequalities as according to the difference principle lie in idea of incentive. For instance, Rawls argues that inequalities in income are just, because they provide an incentive to work and contribute to the overall well–being of the society. Thus, the skilled or 'talented' workers of the society would require more income in order to stay productive. Without the higher income as an incentive, the talented workers would not be as productive, which in turn negatively impacts the least well–off, as there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. An Ethical Dilemma Regarding The Hiring Of A New Organization The FIDA organization faces an ethical dilemma regarding the hiring of a new organizational leader. Consideration is being given to someone who expects a salary far outside FIDA's ethical compass used to establish salaries. Applying either a care ethics or the Rawls's difference principle of ethical reasoning to the circumstance supports not hiring the person. However, applying the Rawls's difference principle provides the stronger argument in support of this decision, as it allows the decision–maker to impartially determine if the decision is just and fair for the broadest group of key stakeholders affected. As a global justice organization, FIDA employs a hiring policy that provides for a limit on the salary of employees to be hired. Thus, the highest paid salary will not exceed three times that which is paid to the lowest paid member of the organization. However, FIDA needs a new chief executive officer and is considering a candidate, Joan, who wants three times the outgoing officer's salary. Joan has indicated that she is worthy of the higher salary as she can significantly increase funds raised. Applying the Rawls's difference principle would support hiring Joan at the higher salary only if it resulted in a greater share of resources available to all stakeholders and benefited the least well off of that group. Therefore, the key stakeholders must be identified and it must be determined whether they would be better off under the circumstances. The stakeholders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Egalitarianism In John Rawls : A Feminist Society Rejecting the strict egalitarianism, Rawls does not support a laissez faire society where people are entitled to their self–ownership of their wealth. They have the rights to their property. However, this view ignores Rawls's emphasis on the original position. Rawls notes that, under the veil of ignorance, no one knows his social status or his fortune in the distribution of natural assets and abilities. (572) However, the best well off might enjoy their wealth only because they are fortunate to born in a decent environment. This morally arbitrary fact remains an accident of natural endowment which the person cannot choose. Bezos was born in a rich family which was among the largest landholders in Texas. He graduated from an Ivy League school which most people could not attend. In addition, a research on 38 colleges indicates that more students came from the top 1 percent of the income scale than from the entire bottom 60 percent. These examples indicate that the advantaged begin their life at a more advanced starting point which they could not decide. Rawls would argue that these morally arbitrary privileged claims on the wealth do not constitute a just society. A just society, in contrast, needs to provide fair equality of opportunity ((2)(a) of Rawls's theory of justice) which puts everyone at a same starting point. For instance, a just society gives equal access to education or equal job application process. What if people start at the same level but everyone is rewarded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Benefits Of A Living Wage In order to achieve a more equal society those in the position of the least well off must have their standard of living improved. The inclusion of a living wage in our society would greatly benefit those in that position who are stricken by poverty. I will argue in favour of a living wage for those who would benefit most from it, the marginalized. The living wage project seeks to promote business's paying their employees a living wage rather than a minimum wage in the hopes of giving families a decent standard of living. For Regina Saskatchewan the living wage for a family of four is projected to be $16.46 an hour for each parent. This allows for a family to participate in various recreational and community activities while keeping a modest amount of money for emergencies but doesn't allow them to save for things like university education or retirement. (Gingrich, Banks, & Enoch, 2014, p. 5–7) A living wage not only provides a solution to families living in poverty but relieves many stresses associated with financial worries. Parents with more money could then take care of their family better as having more stable finances means a family can afford to eat more nutritious foods and afford medicine resulting in fewer days spent away from work due to illness (Gingrich, Banks, & Enoch, 2014, p. 9–10). • 54. The Principle Of Distributive Justice example, immunization programs, research opportunities, harmful practices, financial assistance, etc. (Munson, 2014). Principle of Utility The principle of utility is essentially the balance between the principles of beneficence and non– maleficence. It is defined as acting a manner that produces the greatest benefit and the least harm to an individual (Munson, 2014). This principle is significant in healthcare because it can be applied by healthcare professionals to help weigh the benefits of test and treatments compared to the harm. For example, if a medical diagnosis suggests that treatment through surgery is the best option for a patient, but the physician believes that the patient is not a candidate for surgery due to the patient's medical condition, the physician is practicing the principle of utility. Healthcare professionals must consider the harm and possible death (morbidity and mortality) of the patient before proceeding with diagnosis, surgery, and treatment (Munson, 2014). Principle of Distributive Justice Human beings all have the right to be treated justly or fairly. The principle of distributive justice is a form of comparative justice – the application of laws/rules and the distribution of burdens and benefits (Munson, 2014). It is a decision making tool that is intended to help the family stay together and avoid the kind of devastating disruption and damage that disputes and unforeseen events can cause. ... • 68. Friedman Equality Before God Q1: The different kinds of equality discussed by the Friedman's are equality before God; equality of opportunity; equality of outcome. The legitimate kind is equality of opportunity which leads to a free market and a system where the "ordinary man has been able to attain levels of living never dreamed of before." (Friedman pg. 146) Q2: According to Rawls', the feudal or caste system, the libertarian, and the meritocratic theories would be rejected by the contracting parties because these "three theories base distributive shares on factors that are arbitrary from a moral point of view – whether accident of birth, or social and economic advantage or natural talents or abilities. Only the difference principle avoids basing the distribution of income and wealth on these contingencies." (Sandel pg. 167) Q3: Rawls' rejects the claim that people are morally entitled to all the income derived from the exercise of their natural talents are incentives and effort. Incentives is the difference principle permitting income inequalities for the sake of incentives, provided the incentives are needed to improve those less fortunate. Effort may even be from the product of a favorable upbringing and not just your ... The Book Successful Women Think Differently Essay Analysis on the book Successful Women Think Differently The book Successful Women Think Differently by Valorie Burton reveals the thought process of how successful women think and how to maintain empowerment through adversity. Burton expresses how to cultivate relationships as well as communicating effectively through thinking with a sense of purpose and distinction. In the book Successful Women Think Differently, Burton wants readers to learn nine habits and seven key principles to cultivate certain ways to think through any problematic situation. Burton believes that she can help the reader create new thought processes that strengthen thinking differently in order to set higher personal and professional goals for oneself. The ability to bounce back from failure is certainly not an easy task, but implementing these steps creates "safety nets" of comfort, and encouragement. According to Burton, the key decisions contribute to restoring peace from within, building confidence, and boosting happiness during hard times. Burton's introduction of the nine habits mainly teaches women how to navigate obstacles when they come. She uses illustrations of various workshops and real life stories of women who have found that harmony of purpose, resilience, and joy that defines success. Consequently, Burton is asking the reader to commit and execute seven key decisions that are simple, profound, and easy to follow in order to obtain the nine habits earlier stated. ... • 72. The Pros And Cons Of The Kantian Universalization Principle Comedian Robert Orben joked, "There is so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all." As Homer Simpson famously said, this joke is "funny because it's true." The pollution of Earth has been going on for decades, but recently scientists have been pushing very hard for practices that do not harm our planet. In 2006, the first Environmental Performance Index (EPI) was published, ranking countries on how well they are protecting Earth with their policies and practices. Who doesn't love a little competition? One would think America would love a competition, looking at their competitive market economy. But America is not faring well in this environmental competition. Take a look at the facts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If, however, the result of everyone's following your action will be very undesirable, do not follow through with the plan. Considering the United States' ranking in the Environmental Performance Index, the Kantian Universalization Principle must not play a large role in the American environmental policy. An illustration of the lack of Kantian ethics is the Republican Party controlling Congress blocking efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency to keep water meant for drinking, recreation, and development safe. After the Clean Water Rule was released, the House and Senate passed a resolution against the regulations. Congress thought it gave the government too much control over water supplies for farmers, landowners, and developers who would now need a permit just to dig a ditch. President Obama vetoed the resolution. Apply the Kantian Universalization Principle and imagine if every country in the world tried to stop regulations for keeping water ... • 74. The Harm Principle John Mill Summary Firstly, we need to analyze what John Mill states with the passage which is the Harm Principle. Mill main concern was the way that someone can control another person. Mill believes that the right to control someone else can only be "warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number, is self–protection" ( Mill ) I believe that Mill is saying that people's liberty and freedom should not be controlled unless they are going to harm someone else. By harm, I think he is referring to injuring someone's rights and impeding on things that will benefit the person. Mill the says that "{T}he only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others" (Mill )In my opinion he is saying that the only time someone who has the power such as the government can step in and limit someone's actions is if that person would cause harm to someone. The last part of the passage is "His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant."( Mill ). From this statement, I concluded that people can essentially do what they want to themselves as authority has no power over what they do to themselves also that if someone physically harms you or if something that a person says or does is against your morals it is not a good enough reason for the government to step in. All in all this passage states that there is a limit on the authorities action, it distinguishes between when the government is allowed to interfere in an individual's life and when is not. This passage does not only limit the authorities ability to interfere it also limits the public's ability to interfere, just because something is unacceptable by the majority doesn't give people the ability to interfere, for example, if someone is acting immorally but not causing harm it is not justified to step in. Mill is a libertarian, which means he believed that everyone's liberty and freedom should be protected, Mill views liberty as "The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs or impede their efforts to obtain it." • 76. Public Policy And Creating Solutions For Improvement Essay Examining Public Policy and Creating Solutions for Improvement Reflections on Public Policy The chosen public policy issue is the ongoing effort within nursing to advance the field through taking action. In this case, action takes four distinct activities: advocacy, policy, learning as a lifelong process and involvement in philanthropy. This action can be applied through community–based participatory research which is a research partnership seeking the involvement of all members of the community. This would seem natural enough as nursing is based on the principle that all people are of value and their health should be advanced throughout every socioeconomic tier of society (Brown, ... • 78. Examples Of Social Determinants Of Health The determinants of health as stated in the report are social and nonmedcial factors. They are related to "employment income, housing, transportation, child care, education, discrimination, and the quality of the places where people live, work, learn and play, which influence health" (Braveman et al., pg. 14). The reason why they are considered social determinants is because there are guidelines created by the government in which it affects the quality of life a person has. As well as what may be accessible to them based on the "social policy"; "presumably because the provision of medical care is the responsibility of social policy" (Braveman et al., pg. 14). The fundamental principles that guide action to achieve health equity are: If we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
