My Passion For Running Research Paper
If you're looking for the perfect running partner, look no further than your dog. Your loyal companion can be a great motivator, teacher, and all around
friend for the trails, and can help to reinvigorate your passion for running.
For years, I ran alone. I didn't want to hold anyone else up, be held up by anyone else, or have to worry about aligning schedules to run with
someone. I also like to play it by feel, and if I'm not feeling up to a run one morning, I don't do it..... after all, I run for enjoyment.
We had two Siberian Huskies in years past, which were great for running (though I could barely keep up with them), but now only had a small Shih–tzu
mix lap dog (certainly not a runner). We missed having a larger dog so we began to look for one at local shelters and rescues. We found a local
rescue and started inquiring about some dogs they had available. Every time we inquired on a new dog, it had already been reserved by someone.
After a few months of looking, and inquiring with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trixie turned out to be the perfect running partner, and a great teacher. Dogs have a passion for running. They have nothing to gain from it. They
don't need to run to catch their dinner, run to avoid predators, or run to make a living. They're in it for the pure joy of it. Just seeing the excitement in
their face as you get ready for a run is a great motivator, and can provide you with that extra push you need to get out there and run.
Dogs know how to be a better runner, and it's pretty simple. Run until you don't want to run anymore. Then rest until you want to run again. This is
something that is easily overlooked, and turn many people away from running. Don't feel obligated to run, to get a certain amount of mileage in each
week. Recovery can play as big a part in running gains as actual running does. Don't be afraid to rest or take a day off, listen to your body.
Got any tips or tales about running with your dog? Let me know in the comments or submit a

Personal Narrative: Cross Country Vs. Other Team Sports
Cross country is a sport for the dreamers. This fact becomes abundantly clear once setting foot out on the course. The atmosphere created by this
determination and drive is palpable. A defining difference that separates cross country from other team sports is the lack of ill will towards other
teams, rivalries are present but they provide for a greater sense of competition between schools. When looking up sportsmanship in the dictionary it
says "refer to cross country". What creates such a friendly environment that many other sports seem to lack? It all goes back to the shared goal, to
finish. I was raised in Birch Run, Michigan and was taught to loathe Frankenmuth High School. They were the perfect villains for our town: wealthy
with a successful football team and on top of that they almost completely ignore us omitting their yearly triumph over our football team. They were the
perfect negligent antagonist. When I was still young and naive, I found myself falling under this hive mentality with the rest of the town. This stigma
and prejudice was completely demolished thanks entirely to my cross country coach, Dr. Rev. Roger Rothe.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first year was such a success that the entire team was impatient for the current season to be over simply due to the fact that they wanted to go to
cross camp again at the start of next season. The hype was unreal, that was until Coach Rothe announced that we would be bunking alongside the
Frankenmuth cross team. Absolutely no one was excited for this sudden change of events. It was going to be miserable, having to bunk with the stuck
up snobs of Frankenmuth High was going to ruin all of the spectacular memories from the previous year. I couldn't have been more

Cross Country Research Paper
Cross country and track, same thing right? Oh no, not even close. They may both have to do with running, but they are not as alike as many people
ignorant of the running world think. Some differences between cross country and track include the distance, the circumstances, and the scoring. The
most prominent difference between cross country and track is the distance. Cross country consists of just one race of three miles or five kilometers.
Track is much more complex. It includes at least twelve running events ranging from 100 meters to 3200 meters (2 miles). Not only does track have
many more events that cross country, but it has field events, as well. Cross country is strictly limited to running, but track has high jump, long jump,
triple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because cross country is only one event, it has a smaller team of anywhere from one to seven runners for varsity, but the race itself has anywhere
from 50 to 200 runners. A track team can have up to 60 runners on varsity, but the race will only have about eight to fifteen competitors. Due to the
different number of competitors in the two sports, the awards and scoring vary. Since cross country has so many competitors, the top ten to twenty
runners will receive an award that is usually a t–shirt. Sadly, track does not have as many winners in each event. Only the top three runners receive an
award, which usually consists of a medal or t–shirt, for each event. All of these things make the scoring of the two sports completely different. In a
cross country meet, each team receives points from the top five of the seven on their team. Whatever place the runners finish in is the amount of points
the team receives. For example, if someone finished 22nd, they would give their team 22 points. Like golf, the team with the least amount of points
wins. On the contrary, the track team with the most points wins. Each team receives points by placing. First place receives 10 points, second 9, third 8,
and so on. All of the many aspects of the distance, the circumstances, and the scoring make cross country and track completely different. Many people
see them as just running

Personal Narrative: Patellar Tracking Disorder
My lungs were burning. The wind whipped past my face as I listened to the echos of the cheering crowd. I could see the straight white ribbon
stretched across the finish line. I remember complete euphoria as I tore past that ribbon first. Sweat dripping into my eyes, I smiled as I walked
off the track. The weight of the gold metal on my chest, was a glorious symbol of all my hard work. I would never get another one for sprinting
again. Patellar Tracking Disorder (PTD) is characterized as "an imbalance in the knee area that causes the kneecap to shift out of place as the leg
moves". It feels as if your knee bones are grinding together and could give out any second. I began to develop PTD when I was twelve years old, the
summer after my last gold

Connecticut State Track Committee Case Analysis
The Connecticut State Track Committee,
Upon your request to design a 200 meter indoor track that fulfills the constraints of straightaways measuring 34 to 44 meters and lanes measuring 1.07
to 1.22 meters wide, I have designed a track that should fulfill these requests. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two
measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were
chosen first as they would make further calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular ends of the
track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and therefore, would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location. This was needed to be found because otherwise, all
runners except the one in lane 1 would end up running more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater distance,
it would take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting position by distance, was determined by taking the total
distance found in the step before and subtracting it from the intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each subsequent
runner after the first had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was used because one of the criteria of the track design was that the
total distance for one lap was to be 200 meters. Finding the starting position by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more complicated. To begin, I
knew the circumference of the ends of the track from a previous step and and the length of the offset from determining the starting position in meters.
With this information, I could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could then rearrange this formula to solve for the AM, the measure of the
central angle of the arc in degrees. This rearrangement resulted in the following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this application because
the central angle of the arc

Personal Narrative: My Best Opportunity At State Track
I had one of the best opportunities my freshman year. Throughout the whole track season I trained to make it to state track. This is a huge event in
the state of Iowa for some of the top athletes who are involved in track and field. I was lucky enough to make it. Personally, I think my best event is
hurdles. That is also what event I ran in during state. It was a team effort to qualify. I was apart of the shuttle hurdle team along with Avriel Miller,
Livia Miller, and Johanna Vaske. All season, we practiced and ran this event at track meets. We broke the school record in the middle of the season.
After breaking the record, we continued to better our overall time. I wanted to lower my personal time. I'm still working on getting my time lower,

Personal Narrative Essay: Running On The Cross-Country Team
It was freezing cold out, and the coach had made the call that there was still going to be running today. Some of the runners on the cross–country team
were relieved to hear this news, but I was frustrated with this weather. "Is there any way I can just run farther tomorrow? We've already had to run
three to five miles each day for the past week," I commented. "I know it's tough running in this heat Michael, but it builds endurance and stamina,"
coach replied. "You need to push through the heat in order to perform well." Coach had been making us do mile repeats to prepare us for the next
meet, but I was already feeling discouraged about the upcoming meet from my last performance. My goal was to make varsity before the end of the
season, which

Born To Run Chapter Summary
I would recommend the book, Born to Run to any person that enjoys running, or even just sports in general. To begin, this story is mainly about
ultrarunning. If the reader do not have any interest in sports at all this book will not be for them. For example, most of this book dealt with ultra
marathons such as the race in Leadville which took around five chapters to explain everything about the race, and the effect of the Tarahumara which
could disinterest readers of this book. Similarly, this book was also about the science behind the Tarahumara, and how they can run hundreds of miles
without rest. Because of this, the story delves into the science behind their running, as well as other running techniques performed by other ultrarunners
such as Ann Transon, and Scott Jurek, intense studying to perfect running by David Carrier, and extreme training routines performed by Emil Zatopek.
Finally, the reader must have some experience in running, or sports to know how incredible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gives great insight to many situations that occur throughout the story. To be more specific, he gives many specific events such as the Badwater
marathon, and how runners such as Scott Jurek, and Barefoot Ted run through the California's Death Valley. He explains some runners even have crews
that bring coffin–like boxes for them to cool down in. McDougall's writing style can also cause the story to become prolonged at some points. He
puts so much detail into each situation which helps the reader visualize and understand what he is portray, but it seems unnecessary, and over
explained at some points in the story. To conclude, this book has great flow and structure. He starts off the chapter by giving a general overview of a
certain topic, and the rest of the chapter is about that topic. This makes it very easy for the reader to understand the story and is why I would
recommend this book to anyone who likes

The C-H-A-R-I-Personal Narrative Essay
"C–H–A–R–L–I–E!" "Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, one fight, one team!" With a rousing cheer we bounced on our toes, yelling in a steady roar, our
arms around each other's shoulders. With the command to start running, we raced across the pavement, leaping over curbs and tree roots, yelling
"STEP" as a warning to those behind us. When people could no longer run they fell out of the group, only to be joined by a fellow company
member encouraging them to continue running. At 0530 all 500 of us made it to the field, leaning on each other and gasping for air, only to be
greeted by a former Navy Seal ready to begin our workout. Before my week at the United States Naval Academy, I'd always prided myself on my
independence, whether it be the product of having two working immigrant parents, or an unwillingness to "owe" something to someone else. When

Sea Trials was the ultimate test of physical and mental strength, waking early in the morning to do physical training for 8 hours. We drilled martial
arts, swam laps, flipped tires, crawled through mud, and clambered through an endurance course all while subsisting on 5 hours of sleep and no chance
to rest. My arrogant assumption of self–sufficiency was completely shattered by the brutal physicality of Sea Trials. When a wall was too high for me
to climb, I didn't have the option of struggling by myself. When my arms were so exhausted my hands were shaking, I couldn't simply will myself
to tread water holding a 10 pound rifle over my head. I needed to ask my squadmates for help when my own body wasn't enough. My squadmates

Personal Narrative: I Am A Cross Country
When times get tough, don't give up. If you want to be the best you can be you don't have a choice but to push your limits and try. As these words of
encouragement have made me become who I am, cross country has shaped me into the person I am today.
It all started in August on my first day of 6th grade where I came out for the cross country season not knowing what I was about to get myself into. My
dad said I had to either get a job or do sports in school, so I chose to do a sport because what 13 year old would want to get a job anyway? Soon after
the first week of practice was over, I was running as the number two runner. Staying as the number one and two runner as the rest of my middle school
years, almost breaking the school record and being named "top dog" I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As soon as I joined the team, I made new friends and had lots of new workouts I have never done before that were tremendously hard. For example,
one specific workout I can remember that was super hard fell on a Thursday. That Thursday was a repeat day which means you keep doing the
same thing over and over again until the amount you have to do is up. We had to do 18 400's with 45 seconds of rest. If you did not stay above or
below three seconds of your goal, coach would tell you to stop the workout because you're not trying your best. Talk about puking after practices and
sweat dripping down your face and back! When I joined the team, we were eligible to go to nationals all over the United States. So throughout the
time I was on the private team, I went to nationals for cross country five times and went to nationals for track and field four times just during my three

I enjoy doing cross country in the fall of the my school year and track in the spring of my school year. I love running cross country after school

activities are playing tennis and American Sign Language. During my free time, I like to play tennis with my friends, especially during the summer

Cross Country Persuasive Speech
Ready, set, "bang," the starter gun goes off, thousands of people cheer, hundreds of runners on your left and right, and the only thing you're focus on
is crossing the finish line. Your heart is pounding, your stomach twists around itself, and the lactic acid builds in your legs to a point where all you can
focus on is the pain that each step takes. But this is Cross Country. Outlasting the pain is part of the sport and if you hadn't known that from the start
you wouldn't have joined right? And you wouldn't have stayed all four years either. The competition is another factor too, because in each race you are
lined up against two hundred to three hundred other competitors, each of whom wants it as much as you do. Knowing that, every runner... Show more

Like a story, the end of the race tells you who's the winner and gives you new insight on how to race based on what you did right or wrong during
the race. By reflecting on your mistakes, you can approve on it and make sure it doesn't happen next time. With about eight hundred meters left to go,
pick up your pace because it's going to be a battle to the finish. Always finish strong. The last two hundred meters of the race–sprint! Your legs are
going to feel wobbly like a noodle, your body heated, and everything just aches, but don't give in. Use the energy of the crowd cheering to motivate
you and also keep your running form. Whatever energy you have left on reserve, use it, because when it comes down to it, every runner you pass or
get passed by can be the difference between your team winning or losing. All the hard work you put in comes to this, it's time to show what you're made

Personal Narrative: Gaining Happiness From An Injury
Gaining Happiness From an Injury I stared longingly watching my team prepare and train diligently, with heated motivation, for the upcoming
Regional Varsity Track Meet. That could have been me practicing with the girls, but that piercing pain being inflicted on my back at that moment
reminded me of the injury that prevented me from a successful track season ; an injury that would end up terminating my track career. The label of
being a track athlete was something that made me feel essential and needed. Running had encompassed my life for about 5 years until an unanticipated
injury came my way. I hurt my back two weeks before the season started my sophomore year of high school. I could never have foreshadowed such a

I had to come to terms that unforeseen circumstances are beyond our control which was difficult to accept and instill in myself. Adapting to such a
challenge helped me grow as a person. I didn't let this injury allow me to lose sight on the things that mattered. I used the fact I was on varsity to
mentor the junior varsity team in ways I couldn't before. I became a manager without the official title. The injury shed light on a subject I tended
to ignore before. I had become unhappy with track. Nothing stressed me out more, nothing felt like a job more, and nothing felt so unsatisfying
more than track had become for me. It is contradicting to express how track helped me expand as a person, but had become something I grew to
dread. This sport requires every ounce of dedication and attention from its participants. I was incapable of allowing my life to be entirely engulfed
by a sport. I personally could not submit my identity to something I knew I didn't aspire to practice in college. Now, as I look back over that year, I
can watch as the blaze died in me that used to hold unfathomable passion. I lost the will to be a part of track. I knew this hobby was negatively

40 Yard Dash Research Paper
The most important event in my life was when I beat the record for the fastest time in running the 40 yard dash for all of the University in the whole
world, and for Kentucky University track team. It took place at the Mercede–Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 12, 1922. The day
after my grandpa died from helping a lady crossing the street when a car came and the driver was texting and then suddenly ran him over. So if I
would win nationals I would dedicate the win for him. Before I was about to run the 40 yd. dash the whole track team and Coach Saban prayed for,
we can win the track meet. Once our praying time was done the whole team ran out to the track all electrified and pumped up to win this meet. After

Personal Narrative: Overcoming Obstacles
Imagine being at the peak of your high school career, personally, academically, and athletically. For me, that was my sophomore year. I was

average. I was pulled up to Varsity basketball, I became the 100 meter hurdle regional champion, and I qualified for two events at the Division 4
State meet for track and field. In one split second, a clip of a hurdle, that was over. My first race of the day was the preliminary 100 meter hurdles.

Later that night, I would find out that I fractured my femur, clean into two. My doctor told me that I would be out from sports for at least nine to

a long recovery, but I did not know that it was going to be a mental setback as much as physical. At first it was nice to have my loved ones come
around all the time to visit me and check up on me, but after a while they all moved on. They all headed off to enjoy their summer while I laid on the
couch watching television and attempting to do some leg exercises. I had to have help with everything, which led to many arguments. Being
independent, I abhorred the fact that I needed help with the simplest things, such as grabbing the remote or even getting up. I became so upset about it
that I quit arguing about it. It led me into a lazy mindset that made me not feel as motivated to do things. Once I started physical therapy it felt as

Personal Narrative: My Runner's High
Lynn Jennings, an American long–distance runner, once said, "I succeed on my own personal motivation, dedication, and commitment. My mindset
is: if I'm not out there training, someone else is." (Found on www.active.com). When I saw this quote, it immediately stuck out to me. Running is
not only a physical activity; it is also a mental activity. Most people think I'm crazy to run, but I think otherwise. I run because of the "runner's high"
during a race, of the friendships I've made, and of the beautiful places I run through. Most runners experience something called a "runner's high." To
me, my runner's high makes me feel invincible. All the aches and pains I had at the beginning of my run drift away, and my body feels as if I am
floating on a white, fluffy cloud. I crave for that feeling because it gets me through long, awful runs and tough races. Runner's high creates the
possibility of doing anything imaginable. It is a wonderful experience; I have never felt anything like it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My cross country teammates understand all the excruciating pain I'm going through, help me celebrate when I run my fastest time, and struggle with

emotional bond. They help me improve on my running and they listen to me when I rant about my last meet. Reactions of my friends who run are
much different that my friends who do not. Friends who don't run usually say "Running is so boring" or "I hate running, I'd never go on a run with

What Does Running Mean To Me
Running is my sport, but it is so much more than a sport. Over the last few years, running has had a large influence on my life. I compete in both
cross country and track, completed a marathon, ran over 300 miles last summer, and ran 250 miles over the previous one. The amount of time I spend
running may seem excessive to some, but I know that what the sport has taught me about myself and about life is well worth the miles. Running has
become my escape and has taught me how to better deal with the ups and downs of life. When I am stressed or upset, there is nothing like a run. For
just a little while nothing else matters except for charging up the next hill, dodging the next puddle, or hopping over the next branch. Runs give me
perspective. When my world seems to be testing, studying, stress, and headaches, a good run centers me. The familiar sounds of my racing heart, my
steady breaths, and my feet hitting the ground relaxes me and reminds me that everything will to turn out alright. This is why I first fell in love with
running and why I plan on never stopping. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personal Eassy On Cross Country
One activity that has helped me grow a tremendous amount over the past four years has been my involvement with cross country and track. Running

My Defining Moment Essay
The summer before my sophomore year, my cross country coach challenged our team to run 400 miles over the summer in preparation for the
oncoming season. Numerous athletes on our team participated, including myself. Equating to running over four miles a day, it was not going to be
effortless, however the challenge sparked a drive for success in me, and I was determined to satisfy that drive. In the final weeks, I grew excited as
the finish drew near, and I eclipsed the 400 mile mark with a day to spare. Success soon followed, as for the first time our coach could remember, our
team won our home meet. Overall, we were much more competitive as a team that year, and it was a fantastic experience. Partaking in those

Not only did I continue running, I continued to enjoy success as well, winning a mile race that summer. Around 300 miles in however, I pulled up
limping as a sudden pain shot up my leg and festered in my right knee. To this day, I'm still unsure exactly what happened, but my chances of reaching
400 miles again were over. From that fateful day, until cross–country started, I rested my legs, but I still was not fully healed. Just how much I truly
cared about running and my teammates soon became clear to me. The pain continued to plague me, as physical therapy did nothing to aid my pain.
Eventually, I came to the decision that I was too passionate about running and my team to surrender to the inconvenience of injury. For the majority of
the season, I ran through the ever–present pain in my knee. The competitive fire in me would not allow myself to take the easy way out. A few races
ended with me writhing on the ground in pain after crossing the finish line, but I felt worse emotionally after the race I did not run than I felt
physically after any race that put me through pain. No pain was too much for me to put up with to be able to run with my closest friends at school. I

Personal Narrative: The Way I Run
The most challenging thing I have ever been through was when I broke my left collarbone. I was at the park after school last year with a couple of
my friends and I saw an odd looking tree. I felt the need to sit on a weird curving branch so I started running towards the tree. Why I felt the need
to run, I still don't know to this day. The park has a winding sidewalk that runs alongside the road. In between the two is a small decline of grass
and ground. Whilst running, I tripped on my own two feet on that small slope and fell on my shoulder. I rolled over so my back was on the ground.
At this point in time I couldn't feel any pain, I was in shock. As soon as I started to get up, pain shot through me and I had to lay back down. Once

Cross Country Running Comparison
Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms of doing it. Comparisons a lot of people make is that cross country and track are the same
thing, but those two sports are entirely different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to change the
workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner enjoys long distance running then they also should go out for
track since it has long distance events. Even though it has those events it doesn't change the fact the two are very different. Cross country mostly
deals with long distance running, but its running on a grass and on hills. The works one would have to do to prepare for cross country meets would
be transitions of 400 mile repeats, long runs that could be around five to ten miles on grass, gravel, or muddy, and dreaded hill workouts. These
types of workouts work out the legs and core of a person to be ready for any rugged terrain that they would run on. Cross country also deals with the
fact one must compete with a lot of more people. A normal cross country race would consist of seventy to over hundred runners, and with... Show more

Focusing on the track portion of the sport, it seems like cross country but there are many aspects of it that's it different. The workouts dealing with
track focus more on the weight lifting then the actual stretching. Track deals with more sprinting since most the events in track go only for a short
distance that call for sprinting. Since these are only short distances and that there are so many events that athletes can do the numbers for competitors
aren't as huge. With each event having a set number of competitors, track is not as a team oriented sport. To go farther it relies mostly on the person
doing the event, with only having the exception of relay races with three other

Graduation Speech: State Bound Dreams
State Bound Dreams The final seconds of a cross country meet when you are sprinting down the straight away, looking at the finish line, trying to beat
just one more person, is one of the most mentally and physically exhausting moments I've ever encountered. In the Fall of 2014 things just clicked with
our girls cross country team. Winning Bi–county, Conference, Sectional, and advancing to Regional and Semi–state, was unexpected to everyone
around us. Losing five of our seven varsity runners the year before got us moved from our small school rank of 3rd to 13th. Getting moved ten spots
on that list motivated us even more to prove to everyone what we could do without those graduated seniors. Making it to Semi–state that year was
unexpected,

College Admissions Essay: Perseverance In Cross Country
The superpower that I exemplify is perseverance. This is a personality strength that has helped me a great deal both in and out of the classroom. As a
Cross country runner, my mental and physical endurance is tested frequently. Before even stepping up to the starting line, Cross Country athletes must
be prepared for the adversity that they will face in the span of four or five kilometers and are aware of the mental doubt that is likely to cross their
mind on occasion. In Cross Country, finishing is not enough. It is the understanding as well as the demand of the sport to finish being mentally and
physically depleted. There have been moments in races that did not image I could prevail and desired nothing more than to stop. However, that
instantaneous desire does not hold a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am the type of person who makes a schedule for events in my free time and follows it vigilantly. With a demanding course load and other
obligations that come with having a life outside of school, focus is crucial. Having this skill fine toned has been the foundation of a balanced
lifestyle. Controlling my emotions, on the other hand, was something that I struggled with in the past. My family has a history of Alzheimer's which
frankly and justifiably terrifies me. I could not be farther from having medical expertise but it would not take a doctor to recognize, my dad's
downward mental trajectory which reminds me of that of a disease that I have seen too many times. Initially, I would be furious at my dad for
forgetting meaningless and insignificant things. I thought he was not listening or did not care, but under the surface the possibility of these problems
intensifying in the future threw me into a panic. While I know that this has not been easy for me, this is likely only the tip of the iceberg, and I
acknowledge it must be so much harder for my dad. I have grown to realize that the situation is out of my control but my emotions are

Personal Essay Of Being Broken: Cross Country
Barriers being Broken
Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. I struggled very hard with getting myself to wake up in the morning to run to
achieve my goal. When I ran Cross Country I really wanted to run every meet and get a personal record but I never had the motivation to practice
harder but with determination on a Saturday morning I ran my personal record!
During Summer Training I fell and sprained my ankle very badly and was out for the first month of the season. I would use my injury as an excuse
sometimes to not have to practice. That never did me well because after I got cleared to run again I could really feel everything because i didn't train
for a long time. I struggled with getting up early in the mornings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Practices were during my summer break at 7 in the morning and sometimes I had a swim meet the night before or I have one that night and I really
dreaded running those mornings. When school started practices after school were tough because after a full day at school I was very tired and
ready to go home but from 4 to 6 I was out training in any time of weather. The rainy workouts were very tiring because you just wanted to walk
when you got tired but you can't because all you are doing is cheating yourself out. Cross Country season was very brutal because many practices
were in the pouring rain. You had to have the determination to keep running through the pain especially because since my ankle was not fully
healed I had to put past the pain barrier. There were days that practices were very hard and I just felt like I couldn't go anymore yet the teamwork that
my team showed to push each other just motivated everyone to keep running to the finish line. You had to have so much commitment to run Cross
Country because you could not just show up to meets and run an outstanding race if you didn't run every practice and train as hard as you could. The
meets were all after school towards the night and so as a team we were all very tired, worn out, and nervous so sometimes

Personal Narrative: Jessica's Journey
Have you ever loved one thing so much that you just can't stop thinking about it? Well, running was that "thing" for 16–year–old track star Jessica
Carlisle. She lived, breathed, and ate running every single day up until the accident. When her track team's bus is coming home from their meet, they
collide with another vehicle that is going the opposite way. One of their teammates' dies and Jessica ends up losing her leg.
Crushing her dreams, the surgical doctors tell her that eventually, she would be able to walk with a prosthetic, but would never run again. The news
breaks her heart and sends her into a depressing, mentally challenged mindset. Things get rough for Jessica, but she learns to overcome the obstacles
God's given her, and stay strong. Jessica heals emotionally and physically, coming back better than ever. In her first couple days... Show more content

Additionally, she becomes friends with a girl at school named Rosa. One thing is different with Rosa than any of her other friends. She lives her life
in a wheelchair and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age. Rosa ends up giving Jessica the spirit she once had before the accident, maybe
even a little more than before.
In an effort to get Jessica back running again, her teammates and coach form a plan. They start a fundraiser to help pay for a prosthetic running leg. A
grace from God, an anonymous donor ends up donating all of the money for it. This was a very bittersweet moment for me in the book. The track
team gives the special prosthetic leg to her, motivating Jessica to enter in her first race since the accident.
The race I am talking about is the River–Run race. Rosa hadn't ever experienced running before, and Jessica wanted to help her with that. Jessica
enters herself and Rosa in a 10 mile race, where she has to push her in the wheelchair the whole course. The reason she does it is to thank Rosa for
being there for her when she needed it the

The Human Heart: A Short Story
I believe that the obstacles that test the ability of the human heart, are the ones that shape and define our character the most. As a long distance, I
found myself running different trials that pushed me beyond my limits every weekend. However, it wasn't until my senior district meet, that I
surprised myself, by reaching what I had been working for. With 3.2 miles to go, every runner speeds up and fights for a good spot. My adrenaline
has rushed off with me at the sound of the gunshot. This is it, the district meet is here. As I take the first hill, my mind goes to a different state, and
my goal of coming in the top ten pushes me to move forward. However, I find myself stuck in between a couple of girls. "Push it Luisa, this is what
you've been working for," I recognize my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Your focus can only be on what is in front of you, not beside you or behind you." In life, we are always going to have to make decisions, which is
why it is important that we weigh our options and know where our focus lies. For most teenagers the idea of waking up at six in the morning to go
on a seven mile run, would sound like a drag. Simply because their focus is somewhere else. However, for me and my teammates, our focus has
always been past the finish line. A place where we have always obtained a sense of accomplishment. To a personal level, the past two summers
have been a challenge, but with the energy of my teammates and the idea of becoming better, I was able to get through summer workouts. However,
being long distance runner requires discipline yearlong. Keeping up with school work, eating healthy, and not going out so that I could be in bed by
nine to wake up at five am, became part of a lifestyle that I eventually built into. Realizing how much I had grown from my first meet to today, made
me value my efforts. Thanks to coach's workouts and my hard work, I was able to keep pushing my strides in today's

Personal Narrative: Track And Field
A personal experience I have went through in my life would be making it to districts in track and field my sophomore year of high school. Making it
to districts was a big accomplishment for me and my teammates because track is something that I take a lot of my time to focus on and do multiple
hours of training so I am able to compete with the other athletes. I come from a small town in Ohio called Oak Hill. The sport track and field is
something you do not hear that much about because our high school is not very big and very few athletes actually run track to make it somewhat far in
competition, so for my 4x1 team to make it to regionals was a big deal for me considering it is something that does not happen that often at my local
high school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The preparation was mainly to make sure that our legs where loose and stretched out. My coaches always made sure we would stretch before the
race because they did not was us to get any sort of injury whatsoever. If you are any kind of athlete who competes in some sort of competition at
all, knows how nerve racking the experience can be. The main reason I was so nervous was because there were eight teams competing and only
the top four would move on to the regional semifinals. We were predicted to finish fifth from the previous time we ran that week, so that
automatically put a doubt in our mind that we might not make it. The race starts and I am the second leg of our team. When I take the baton it is
too close to tell what position we are actually in. I run as hard as I can, like I always do and hand it off to the third runner of our team. As I look up
and cheer for my teammates to go as fast as they possibly can they suddenly stop. They are all the way across the football field so I am having
trouble finding out why they would stop in the middle of the race. I run over there to see that the baton is laying on the ground next to them. I ask
them "what happened "and they reply "we just dropped it during the exchange". Of course I was disappointed that we got disqualified because we still

The Longest-Personal Narrative
With my heart pounding I stepped forward. As the other competitors are doing everything to stay loose and ready, I simply could not stop shaking. To
my left and right stood two seniors, the fastest half–mile runner in the state and my biggest rival of that year. I felt very out of place, only a sophomore
that season. In Montana, the 800m race at the state meet had been dominated by seniors for decades. The echoing silence filled the arena after the
starter yelled, "set!." If I were to recall the longest is second in my life, undoubtedly it would be that moment. Many times I have been asked to
provide one word that describes myself. My peers would describe me as smart, athletic, and personable. However, I do not believe that any of those

Throughout the active school year, I take part in cross country, track and basketball. I also played volleyball for a year, but I decided to concentrate

ever since I was old enough to run in the munchkin races. The sport has been passed down through the family, almost every single one of my
siblings have run or at least tried it. In track, I have ran the mile and two mile since the seventh grade. These last couple years I joined into the long

Cross Country Camp Narrative
Cross–country season my sophomore year is one I will never forget! It all started back in August 2013 at cross–country camp. It was my first year
attending camp because unfortunately we could not have it my freshman year. Coach Martin had a "late" start to practice because of a few issues
with the construction of the turf. Luckily, Martin still coached us and still coaches us to this very day! As camp began we became pretty close as
a team. This was the first time Coach had seen his team have a strong bond of friendship. Even though camp was really fun, it sure was a tough
week! The week consisted of running twice a day and eating lots and lots of food. By the end of the week, your legs felt like bricks. The first two
months of the season had flown by and it was already October. It was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were fighting the pain to make it to the last two races of the season, Regionals and States. Regionals was a very emotional race for us. The
previous year we were defeated by Parkersburg and was unable to attend states. We had ruined the streak for the girls varsity of PHS to make it to
states. We were devastated. This race was different than the others. This race determined who ran in states. We knew we had to give it our all. At
the start line, Coach wrote a "1" on our leg to keep in mind the one year we didn't make it to states. We knew that staying home this year was not an
option. We raced hard with everything we had. As everyone finished we had this feeling of defeat. We cried and just put ourselves down. We were
not confident in our performances. Coach Martin and P. Sines knew it was a close race. However they had more information than we did. They
knew the results. They watched us cry as a team and continue to believe we didn't make top three. This was the moment I will never forget. "Coming
in third place is.....PRESTON HIGH SCOOOOOOL" announced the official. No longer were we crying sad tears. We were crying tears of

Girl On Fire Meaning
"Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys is a pretty good song to explain me and running. When I run long distance I love it and would never stop but let's say
there's a big hill in front of me that's when I have to push through and feel like I could do it. "This girl is on fire." is a part of the song and sometimes
during cross country we sprint up pretty big hills and if I sing that in my head it makes me go faster. Also if i'mrunning in a race (which is a 5k) and I
want to slow down or start walking I sing this to myself and it helps me out. In the end this song helps me get through the hardest but funnest part of the
day.

Cross Country Season Analysis
Hello yellow jackets! This week was an off–week for us. What I mean by this is that during the cross country season we have meets every other week.
When I first came from high school, where I had a meet every weekend, I wasn't used to this, but now that I am in college I realize how beneficial this
is! In college our races are longer, the training is more rigorous and we also have an increased academic load as students. Having races every other
week also allows us to give our bodies rest and then when we race we can really give our all. Next week we will host the Friendship Invitational and
we have a lot of schools coming this year that haven't in the past, so we are looking forward to the tougher competition!
Coming off of Labor Day weekend this week, we had a workout on Tuesday. We did mile repeats on the cross country course. Although some people
were tired, as a majority our team saw improvements from the last time we did this workout and we even increased the volume. It was encouraging to
see girls hitting faster times and I am looking forward to seeing girls break their goals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Scripture you incorporate into practice and competition! Thank you and happy

Drenched in sweat, legs tired, heart pounding, and the finish line in sight. I needed to cross it, even if I end up crawling to accomplish my goal. My

last leg of the race was rough. Fortunately I successfully made it through. My drive to succeed gave me strength to do so. This drive and
determination has stayed with me all my life. A specific event that contributed to my decision to pursue a residency in family medicine occurred in my

The reason for this is that nearing my scheduled test date my family experienced a tragedy. My aunt, uncle along with 2 nieces all perished when
typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines in 2013. My aunt served as my second mother while studying overseas. Having heard the news of her sudden
passing certainly hit our family with great impact, especially my mother. I rescheduled my exam as I was in no shape mentally to partake in a test
that would ultimately dictate my future. Also, to make up for the idle time, I flew back to Chicago and did an externship in family medicine, internal
medicine and cardiology. My family medicine rotation was one of the best. There was significant independence, and numerous cases (viral exanthems,
diabetes, pulmonary hypertension) to comprehend and learn from, which I enjoyed. During my internal medicine rotation, my preceptor would assign
me in charge of the clinic. I felt elated by the fact that she showed confidence in me. At the same time it was reassuring that she was only a phone call
away for when I had questions regarding a patient's management plan. I also took it upon myself to teach incoming clinical clerks about medications,
treatment plans and answer their questions to the best of my abilities. Doing so also assisted me in remembering my basic sciences, clinical
knowledge and hone my clinical skills. This made me realize that I truly enjoyed teaching and would absolutely

A Career In Physical Therapy
As a young athlete, running had always been a least favorite past–time for me. Unfortunately, every sport I played was dependent on that very physical
act. Millions of suicide runs and lay–ups in basketball, and even more base runs in softball at least distracted me because I was running for a purpose.
My short stint on the cross–country team demonstrated to me that I may have excelled at fast–twitch running, but long–distance running was not my
forte, made clear by my omnipresent side stitches. My senior year of high school came and to my surprise, running would be the one thing I missed so
dearly. My short time as a starting varsity player in basketball came to an end when I completely tore my left ACL. A host of changes came from just
one incident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, I wanted to become a Physical Therapist. I had always put myself in this box, I told myself that I could never be good at math or
science, and to stick with what I was good at, which was art. My confined boundaries now broadened to greater pursuits. All it takes is a positive
attitude and practice to develop any skill you could fathom. My physical therapist, Deron Ramos was a great influence. He did his job with finesse
and he had a sense of humor that could ease even the most painful myofascial massage. I aspired to one day be as great at him, and I saw that if you
are passionate about something, you can master it. My seven months in rehab enlightened me to how movement dictates our lives. My once disdain for
running had now transformed into the desire to run; I was walking, then jogging, and finally running. I was in such great physical shape that I even ran
in my leisure. Physical therapy not only imposes physical change on people, but it also changes

Oudersluy: A Career Path
If you are a runner, whether new to the sport or a veteran, you know there are those days where being motivated to run is difficult. Whether it is the
distance or overcoming the soreness and pain associated with a previous run, there are days when the idea of running is completely unappealing.
Recently, University of Michigan graduate Barclay Oudersluys participated in a unique running experience, traveling on foot from Santa Monica,
California, to Port Clyde, Maine, a distance of 3,200 miles. While some people might complain about making that long of a trip in a vehicle,
Oudersluys ran at least a marathon a day on a regular basis during the 99–day cross–country trip.

Cool Like Me Analysis
Although running may not seem like a big sport like football, basketball or soccer, it takes a lot of courage, heart and strength to be able to run. In
the article called "Cool like me" by Donnell Alexander he says, "cool is finding the essential soul, while being essentially lost". When we feel stressed
and feel like we want time for ourselves away from society, running is a solution. Running is not just considered a sport, running is a lifestyle that
people choose to live. It makes them feel good, look good and it makes them happy. In the article called "Cool like me" by Donnell Alexander he

According to the article called "The Cool Hunt" by Malcolm Gladwell he expresses," because their definition of cool is doing something nobody
else is doing". This quote explains that sometimes doing something unique that nobody else does, can be considered cool rather than doing
something that everyone else is doing. This quote is significant in the way running works as a mental remedy. While other people are paying
expensive therapy sessions for depression or wasting money on medication that in the long run affect their body; others are simply using running as
their therapy. According to Runaddicts.net "The Physical and Mental Benefits of Running" by Jillian Fritsen, "running redeuces stress by boosting
levels of serotonin [chemical that helps send signals from one side of the brain to another], creating a more positive mood. Through running, runners
realize a greater sense of self reliance and accomplishment [ego boost].Running fights depression, with the brain's release of beta endorphins
[substances created by the pituitary glands [small glands located below the brain in the skull base], they function as conductors of messages between
nerve cells. Beta endorphins can boost a person's mood and create feeling of relaxation. These miracle compounds have 80 times as much pain easing

My Passion For Running Research Paper

  • 1. My Passion For Running Research Paper If you're looking for the perfect running partner, look no further than your dog. Your loyal companion can be a great motivator, teacher, and all around friend for the trails, and can help to reinvigorate your passion for running. For years, I ran alone. I didn't want to hold anyone else up, be held up by anyone else, or have to worry about aligning schedules to run with someone. I also like to play it by feel, and if I'm not feeling up to a run one morning, I don't do it..... after all, I run for enjoyment. We had two Siberian Huskies in years past, which were great for running (though I could barely keep up with them), but now only had a small Shih–tzu mix lap dog (certainly not a runner). We missed having a larger dog so we began to look for one at local shelters and rescues. We found a local rescue and started inquiring about some dogs they had available. They don't need to run to catch their dinner, run to avoid predators, or run to make a living. They're in it for the pure joy of it. Just seeing the excitement in their face as you get ready for a run is a great motivator, and can provide you with that extra push you need to get out there and run. Dogs know how to be a better runner, and it's pretty simple. Run until you don't want to run anymore. Then rest until you want to run again. This is something that is easily overlooked, and turn many people away from running. Don't feel obligated to run, to get a certain amount of mileage in each week. Recovery can play as big a part in running gains as actual running does. Don't be afraid to rest or take a day off, listen to your body. Got any tips or tales about running with your dog? • 2. Personal Narrative: Cross Country Vs. Other Team Sports Cross country is a sport for the dreamers. This fact becomes abundantly clear once setting foot out on the course. The atmosphere created by this determination and drive is palpable. A defining difference that separates cross country from other team sports is the lack of ill will towards other teams, rivalries are present but they provide for a greater sense of competition between schools. When looking up sportsmanship in the dictionary it says "refer to cross country". What creates such a friendly environment that many other sports seem to lack? It all goes back to the shared goal, to finish. I was raised in Birch Run, Michigan and was taught to loathe Frankenmuth High School. They were the perfect villains for our town: wealthy with a successful football team and on top of that they almost completely ignore us omitting their yearly triumph over our football team. They were the perfect negligent antagonist. When I was still young and naive, I found myself falling under this hive mentality with the rest of the town. This stigma and prejudice was completely demolished thanks entirely to my cross country coach, Dr. Rev. Roger Rothe.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first year was such a success that the entire team was impatient for the current season to be over simply due to the fact that they wanted to go to cross camp again at the start of next season. The hype was unreal, that was until Coach Rothe announced that we would be bunking alongside the Frankenmuth cross team. Absolutely no one was excited for this sudden change of events. It was going to be miserable, having to bunk with the stuck up snobs of Frankenmuth High was going to ruin all of the spectacular memories from the previous year. I couldn't have been more ... • 3. Cross Country Research Paper Cross country and track, same thing right? Oh no, not even close. They may both have to do with running, but they are not as alike as many people ignorant of the running world think. Some differences between cross country and track include the distance, the circumstances, and the scoring. The most prominent difference between cross country and track is the distance. Cross country consists of just one race of three miles or five kilometers. Track is much more complex. It includes at least twelve running events ranging from 100 meters to 3200 meters (2 miles). Not only does track have many more events that cross country, but it has field events, as well. Cross country is strictly limited to running, but track has high jump, long jump, triple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because cross country is only one event, it has a smaller team of anywhere from one to seven runners for varsity, but the race itself has anywhere from 50 to 200 runners. A track team can have up to 60 runners on varsity, but the race will only have about eight to fifteen competitors. Due to the different number of competitors in the two sports, the awards and scoring vary. Since cross country has so many competitors, the top ten to twenty runners will receive an award that is usually a t–shirt. Sadly, track does not have as many winners in each event. Only the top three runners receive an award, which usually consists of a medal or t–shirt, for each event. All of these things make the scoring of the two sports completely different. In a cross country meet, each team receives points from the top five of the seven on their team. Whatever place the runners finish in is the amount of points the team receives. For example, if someone finished 22nd, they would give their team 22 points. Like golf, the team with the least amount of points wins. On the contrary, the track team with the most points wins. Each team receives points by placing. First place receives 10 points, second 9, third 8, and so on. All of the many aspects of the distance, the circumstances, and the scoring make cross country and track completely different. Many people see them as just running ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Personal Narrative: Patellar Tracking Disorder My lungs were burning. The wind whipped past my face as I listened to the echos of the cheering crowd. I could see the straight white ribbon stretched across the finish line. I remember complete euphoria as I tore past that ribbon first. Sweat dripping into my eyes, I smiled as I walked off the track. The weight of the gold metal on my chest, was a glorious symbol of all my hard work. I would never get another one for sprinting again. Patellar Tracking Disorder (PTD) is characterized as "an imbalance in the knee area that causes the kneecap to shift out of place as the leg moves". It feels as if your knee bones are grinding together and could give out any second. I began to develop PTD when I was twelve years old, the summer after my last gold ... • 5. Connecticut State Track Committee Case Analysis The Connecticut State Track Committee, Upon your request to design a 200 meter indoor track that fulfills the constraints of straightaways measuring 34 to 44 meters and lanes measuring 1.07 to 1.22 meters wide, I have designed a track that should fulfill these requests. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were chosen first as they would make further calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular ends of the track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and therefore, would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location. This was needed to be found because otherwise, all runners except the one in lane 1 would end up running more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater distance, it would take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting position by distance, was determined by taking the total distance found in the step before and subtracting it from the intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each subsequent runner after the first had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was used because one of the criteria of the track design was that the total distance for one lap was to be 200 meters. Finding the starting position by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more complicated. To begin, I knew the circumference of the ends of the track from a previous step and and the length of the offset from determining the starting position in meters. With this information, I could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could then rearrange this formula to solve for the AM, the measure of the central angle of the arc in degrees. This rearrangement resulted in the following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this application because the central angle of the arc ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Personal Narrative: My Best Opportunity At State Track I had one of the best opportunities my freshman year. Throughout the whole track season I trained to make it to state track. This is a huge event in the state of Iowa for some of the top athletes who are involved in track and field. I was lucky enough to make it. Personally, I think my best event is hurdles. That is also what event I ran in during state. It was a team effort to qualify. I was apart of the shuttle hurdle team along with Avriel Miller, Livia Miller, and Johanna Vaske. • 7. Personal Narrative Essay: Running On The Cross-Country Team It was freezing cold out, and the coach had made the call that there was still going to be running today. Some of the runners on the cross–country team were relieved to hear this news, but I was frustrated with this weather. "Is there any way I can just run farther tomorrow? We've already had to run three to five miles each day for the past week," I commented. "I know it's tough running in this heat Michael, but it builds endurance and stamina," coach replied. "You need to push through the heat in order to perform well." • 8. Born To Run Chapter Summary I would recommend the book, Born to Run to any person that enjoys running, or even just sports in general. To begin, this story is mainly about ultrarunning. If the reader do not have any interest in sports at all this book will not be for them. For example, most of this book dealt with ultra marathons such as the race in Leadville which took around five chapters to explain everything about the race, and the effect of the Tarahumara which could disinterest readers of this book. Similarly, this book was also about the science behind the Tarahumara, and how they can run hundreds of miles without rest. Because of this, the story delves into the science behind their running, as well as other running techniques performed by other ultrarunners such as Ann Transon, and Scott Jurek, intense studying to perfect running by David Carrier, and extreme training routines performed by Emil Zatopek. Finally, the reader must have some experience in running, or sports to know how incredible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains some runners even have crews that bring coffin–like boxes for them to cool down in. McDougall's writing style can also cause the story to become prolonged at some points. He puts so much detail into each situation which helps the reader visualize and understand what he is portray, but it seems unnecessary, and over explained at some points in the story. To conclude, this book has great flow and structure. He starts off the chapter by giving a general overview of a certain topic, and the rest of the chapter is about that topic. This makes it very easy for the reader to understand the story and is why I would recommend this book to anyone who likes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With a rousing cheer we bounced on our toes, yelling in a steady roar, our arms around each other's shoulders. With the command to start running, we raced across the pavement, leaping over curbs and tree roots, yelling "STEP" as a warning to those behind us. When people could no longer run they fell out of the group, only to be joined by a fellow company member encouraging them to continue running. At 0530 all 500 of us made it to the field, leaning on each other and gasping for air, only to be greeted by a former Navy Seal ready to begin our workout. Before my week at the United States Naval Academy, I'd always prided myself on my independence, whether it be the product of having two working immigrant parents, or an unwillingness to "owe" something to someone else. As these words of encouragement have made me become who I am, cross country has shaped me into the person I am today. It all started in August on my first day of 6th grade where I came out for the cross country season not knowing what I was about to get myself into. My dad said I had to either get a job or do sports in school, so I chose to do a sport because what 13 year old would want to get a job anyway? Nothing stressed me out more, nothing felt like a job more, and nothing felt so unsatisfying more than track had become for me. It is contradicting to express how track helped me expand as a person, but had become something I grew to dread. This sport requires every ounce of dedication and attention from its participants. Running is not only a physical activity; it is also a mental activity. Most people think I'm crazy to run, but I think otherwise. I run because of the "runner's high" during a race, of the friendships I've made, and of the beautiful places I run through. Most runners experience something called a "runner's high." I compete in both cross country and track, completed a marathon, ran over 300 miles last summer, and ran 250 miles over the previous one. The amount of time I spend running may seem excessive to some, but I know that what the sport has taught me about myself and about life is well worth the miles. • 22. My Defining Moment Essay The summer before my sophomore year, my cross country coach challenged our team to run 400 miles over the summer in preparation for the oncoming season. Numerous athletes on our team participated, including myself. Equating to running over four miles a day, it was not going to be effortless, however the challenge sparked a drive for success in me, and I was determined to satisfy that drive. In the final weeks, I grew excited as the finish drew near, and I eclipsed the 400 mile mark with a day to spare. Success soon followed, as for the first time our coach could remember, our team won our home meet. Overall, we were much more competitive as a team that year, and it was a fantastic experience. Partaking in those experiences again was something... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only did I continue running, I continued to enjoy success as well, winning a mile race that summer. Around 300 miles in however, I pulled up limping as a sudden pain shot up my leg and festered in my right knee. To this day, I'm still unsure exactly what happened, but my chances of reaching 400 miles again were over. From that fateful day, until cross–country started, I rested my legs, but I still was not fully healed. Just how much I truly cared about running and my teammates soon became clear to me. The pain continued to plague me, as physical therapy did nothing to aid my pain. Eventually, I came to the decision that I was too passionate about running and my team to surrender to the inconvenience of injury. For the majority of the season, I ran through the ever–present pain in my knee. The competitive fire in me would not allow myself to take the easy way out. A few races ended with me writhing on the ground in pain after crossing the finish line, but I felt worse emotionally after the race I did not run than I felt physically after any race that put me through pain. • 23. Personal Narrative: The Way I Run The most challenging thing I have ever been through was when I broke my left collarbone. I was at the park after school last year with a couple of my friends and I saw an odd looking tree. I felt the need to sit on a weird curving branch so I started running towards the tree. Why I felt the need to run, I still don't know to this day. The park has a winding sidewalk that runs alongside the road. In between the two is a small decline of grass and ground. Whilst running, I tripped on my own two feet on that small slope and fell on my shoulder. I rolled over so my back was on the ground. At this point in time I couldn't feel any pain, I was in shock. • 24. Cross Country Running Comparison Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms of doing it. Comparisons a lot of people make is that cross country and track are the same thing, but those two sports are entirely different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to change the workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner enjoys long distance running then they also should go out for track since it has long distance events. Even though it has those events it doesn't change the fact the two are very different. Cross country mostly deals with long distance running, but its running on a grass and on hills. The works one would have to do to prepare for cross country meets would be transitions of 400 mile repeats, long runs that could be around five to ten miles on grass, gravel, or muddy, and dreaded hill workouts. These types of workouts work out the legs and core of a person to be ready for any rugged terrain that they would run on. Cross country also deals with the fact one must compete with a lot of more people. A normal cross country race would consist of seventy to over hundred runners, and with... Graduation Speech: State Bound Dreams State Bound Dreams The final seconds of a cross country meet when you are sprinting down the straight away, looking at the finish line, trying to beat just one more person, is one of the most mentally and physically exhausting moments I've ever encountered. In the Fall of 2014 things just clicked with our girls cross country team. Winning Bi–county, Conference, Sectional, and advancing to Regional and Semi–state, was unexpected to everyone around us. Losing five of our seven varsity runners the year before got us moved from our small school rank of 3rd to 13th. Getting moved ten spots on that list motivated us even more to prove to everyone what we could do without those graduated seniors. Making it to Semi–state that year was unexpected, ... This is a personality strength that has helped me a great deal both in and out of the classroom. As a Cross country runner, my mental and physical endurance is tested frequently. Before even stepping up to the starting line, Cross Country athletes must be prepared for the adversity that they will face in the span of four or five kilometers and are aware of the mental doubt that is likely to cross their mind on occasion. I struggled very hard with getting myself to wake up in the morning to run to achieve my goal. During Summer Training I fell and sprained my ankle very badly and was out for the first month of the season. I would use my injury as an excuse sometimes to not have to practice. The rainy workouts were very tiring because you just wanted to walk when you got tired but you can't because all you are doing is cheating yourself out. Cross Country season was very brutal because many practices were in the pouring rain. You had to have the determination to keep running through the pain especially because since my ankle was not fully healed I had to put past the pain barrier. There were days that practices were very hard and I just felt like I couldn't go anymore yet the teamwork that my team showed to push each other just motivated everyone to keep running to the finish line. Making it to districts was a big accomplishment for me and my teammates because track is something that I take a lot of my time to focus on and do multiple hours of training so I am able to compete with the other athletes. I come from a small town in Ohio called Oak Hill. The sport track and field is something you do not hear that much about because our high school is not very big and very few athletes actually run track to make it somewhat far in competition, so for my 4x1 team to make it to regionals was a big deal for me considering it is something that does not happen that often at my local high school. ...
