What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And...
Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of
users. Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction
on the Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo
sharing, chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in–person
communications while increasing total communication (McAndrew & Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek &
Förster, 2017). While there may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its
drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is a change in self–perception and self–esteem after
Facebook usage. People tend to compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or
complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons,
through abilities, emotion, personality traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the
self (de Vries & Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014; van den Berg & Thompson, 2007) and self–perception is
how people see themselves (de Vries & Kühne, 2015). These social comparisons are continually
growing with the creation and expanded use of social networking sites. While Facebook and other
sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents and young adults, an excessive amount of
Facebook use can have a negative effect on self–esteem, self–perception, and well–being while
trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance.

Is Employer Monitoring of Employee Social Media Justified?...
Is Employer Monitoring of Employee Social Media Justified? Bus 330 Social networks have been
making a splash in the internet world over the past couple of years. In some studies into the
monitoring of social media activity by employees has once again brought to light the various
concerns and complaints that this contentious area inevitably generates. The idea of monitoring
employees' conversations has a certain Orwellian darkness that encourages accusations of privacy
invasion and corporate spying. Indeed, some companies have taken this too far – some reportedly
even requesting their employee's Facebook login details. However, by and large the concept of
employee monitoring – when done appropriately – seems to me to be relatively ... Show more

There are, of course, grey areas within this debate. It is appropriate that any social media post that
identifies the individual's employer is of justified interest to that employer. However, where an
individual discusses work situations without identifying the employer it is perhaps harder to justify
this intrusion. The obvious line here is that companies should, by and large, restrict themselves to
monitoring mentions of their brand or senior executives and should stay away from monitoring
individual staff names on their own unless otherwise justified. Indeed, we have picked up significant
quantities of content from client's employees without specifically monitoring for individuals.
Examples include a delivery driver who tweeted about how little work he did and an individual who
expressed support for a group protesting against their employer. These posts – where the individual
clearly named their employer – could have had a significant impact on the companies' public
reputations and therefore were of justified interest to the companies in question. Yes, there are
subsequent questions about how a company should act upon this sort of information. Whether one
should discipline an employee for discussing workplace conditions online could be a legal
minefield, but that is an HR issue and not a monitoring one. What seems certain is that

As reported by Shih (2010), in The Facebook Era, "more than 750 million people around the world
are on social networking sites," where they seemingly spend more than 20 billion minutes a day.
With so many people spending time on social networking sites, it only seems logical that these sites
might be used as a stage for marketing, sales, employment prospects, and making business contacts,
just to name a few possibilities.
With so many choices for social networking platforms, it is important to know what the social web
is all about, what different sites are out there and how they differ from one another. Chief among the
popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Each of these sites is utilized
for different reasons, and to best use them to your advantage in business, you should be aware of the
differences. Facebook, according to Shih (2010) and many of her sources, "is the largest social
networking site globally by an order of magnitude," and "recently even beat out Google in
becoming the most trafficked site on the Internet." With that said, it should be obvious that there is
tremendous business potential for marketing, advertisement, and sales on sites such as Facebook.
Besides Facebook, LinkedIn is also a very popular site; "used by more than 95% of

Online Social Networking Service Created By Paul Budnitz...
Ello is an online social networking service created in 2014 by Paul Budnitz and Todd Berger. This
website was created as an ad–free replacement for the existing social media networks such as
Facebook and Pinterest. Ello's manifesto as mentioned on its website is that "we believe in beauty,
simplicity, and transparency. We believe that the people who make things and the people who use
them should be in partnership." Ello is designed by creators, for creators. It is not a service to sell or
buy products via advertisements. Ello is a website that allows its users to be spread their art and
their creativity to make a living. Ello has formed a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) in which the

This missing feature should have been added when they got feedback from users while the product
was in production' however it was not taken care of; which made it one of the reasons behind the
products failure in the market. In today's generation, the one thing a new upcoming company or
business should remember is that mobile phones are becoming a daily driver for most of the
consumer. Thus, creating an app would make the company more profitable in the market. Not
having a mobile app is a major downside since most people use social media on their phone while
commuting somewhere or when they wake up in the morning. No one would want to turn on their
laptop and scroll through. It would just make it a big hassle for people. If you want to be successful
in today's market you have to be different than what your competition is using or you won't survive.
In a world of quick technology advancement being ad–free doesn 't cut it, you need to be different.
Competing to Facebook and Pinterest, social media websites that have already established in the
market, it would be hard for a startup with a similar idea to get to that level. Most people are already
comfortable with and trust the existing and well–known companies rather than someone new and
upcoming that isn't popular. In order to make this product successful the first thing to change would
be to make the service be public for all of its users. It should not be an invite only social media

Social Networking with a Purpose: Creating a Positive Online Profile Although social networking
sites are still in their infancy, they have certainly become a primary means of communication and
connectivity for millions of consumers. While most Internet users have heard of the largest online
social networks like Facebook and MySpace, thousands of smaller networks exist that connect
individuals through specific user communities (e.g. educators, physicians, professors, etc.). Boyd

In 2005, Facebook became available to students at other universities, in high school, and eventually
to anyone who wanted to join. At this time, Facebook is the fastest growing social networking site
on the Internet (Nielson, 2008). As the social networking phenomenon enters its second decade, new
issues arise as so much personal information becomes ever more available through the Internet.
Since their inception, social networks have attracted millions of young people who have made social
networking an integral part of their daily practice (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). In November 2008,
MySpace had over 59 million unique visitors to its site, each spending about two minutes per visit.
Facebook members logged in over 47 million times in the same month, an increase of 116% over
the previous year (Nielson, 2008). But social networking isn't just for kids anymore.
Social Networks and Teachers
As the teenage pioneers of social networks such as MySpace and Facebook reach adulthood, less–
than–appropriate information that they innocently posted on their blogs years ago can affect their
image in the professional world. In fact, the MySpace (2009) homepage now includes the following

is that everyone can see it. Think twice before posting a photo or

Taking a Look at Facebook and Linkedin
The social networking service, Facebook, was created by Mark Zuckerberg with his college
roommate, who both attended Harvard University, and launched Facebook in February 2004
(Phillips, 2007). Once the social networking sight went viral, the website's membership was no
longer limited to Harvard students– college students from the rest of the United States and Canada
soon started to use the social media service (History of Facebook, 2014). Facebook has become so
popular and globally spread, that it is now being used by individuals and businesses worldwide.
Mark Zuckerberg stated that the core idea of Facebook was to create a platform for people to share
and connect with others who are prevalent in one's life (Our Community to the Facebook
Community, 2011). Facebook has created a borderless world and civilians can connect with friends
and family who are dispersed all over the world. Publicising one's life on the internet is risky, and
has lead the Facebook team to create privacy settings to limit others access to the user's information.
Facebook wanted to ensure that users would feel comfortable to share moments and events about
their real lives without being fearful of unwanted individuals viewing this information (Knibbs,
2014). This defining fact gave way to individuals, for the first time, having tools that they can use to
broadcast their lives and connect with others. With this new found knowledge that the social media
website could be used to communicate easily and

On Aristotle's Friendship and Social Network
CHAPTER I
A. INTRODUCTION Technology is changing the world in a fast pace. This is evident most
especially in social networks. Due to the widespread and growing use of these new social media,
especially social networking sites such as Facebook, researchers began to study its ethical
implications. Social networking services or social networking sites are widespread in all parts of the
world. It serves as means of communication and is considered as the most convenient and easiest
way of communication. It is convenient in a way that it is better than other means of communication
such as telephone. In social networking sites, there is a video call and the one being called and the
one calling can see each other. It is easy by the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There can still be other questions that can help the researcher arrive at the right answer to the main
problem. However, the researcher will give more emphasis on the above–mentioned questions. As
the research progresses, the researcher will post substantial questions that can be beneficial to
answer the main problem.
The researcher will answer the said questions in the light of theoretical and practical reason. The
researcher will conduct simply survey to be able to arrive at the proper conclusion. C. SCOPE AND
LIMITATION The study focuses on Aristotelian ethical principles applied to Facebook. These
ethical principles are mainly about Aristotle's concept of friendship. The researcher includes the
discussion of virtue and other ethical principles governing friendship as support to the said topic.
There are several ethical principles that can be applied to Facebook such as Confucian ethics and
Heideggerian concept of technology but the researcher prefers Aristotelian ethical principles for the
said topic.
The study will tackle Aristotle's concept of friendship with the inclusion of virtue and other ethical
principle substantial on the discussion of friendship. The study will be limited to Facebook
particularly the online friendship it offers. This Aristotelian concept and other ethical principles
supporting it will be used in order to explain how the online friendship offered by

The Internet : Addiction To The Internet
Today's youth generation, has a strong attachment to the online world. Many adolescents spend most
of their time online versus offline. Therefore, one can consider these adolescents as a social network
addict, a person who spends a fair amount of time on one or many social platforms. Throughout the
three articles, "Social Networking Addiction: An Overview of Preliminary Findings" by Mark
Griffiths, "Social Network Sites: Definition, History, and Scholarship" by Nicole B. Ellison and
"Taking Risky Opportunities in Youthful Content Creation: Teenagers' use of Social Networking
Sites for Intimacy, Privacy, and Self–expression" by Sonia Livingstone, demonstrate how this
addiction has impacted people's communication among people. While there are positive and
negative aspects of social networking, the negative aspects tend to overpower the positive ones
when it comes to communication. Although it increases a person's ability to contact with others
quickly, it also decreased people's ability to have those face to face conversations because they
spend a significant amount of time online. Although social networking is addicting, it contributes to
an easier, wider, quicker, and broader communication with others. It has been shown through studies
that people who are on social sites create more and new contacts from other places. Being connected
helps workers "leverage their business" (Ellison 220) to enhance a person's career. Though social

Online Social Networking sites have been rapidly emerging over the past decade. They are changing
the way people interact, make and break friendships, gossip and communicate. This essay will
explore the extent to which social networking has re–defined social relationships and consider
whether or not the impact of social networking is generationally specific. Online social networking
could be defined in many ways depending on which book, article or journal you are reading. One
way social networking is defined is; an online service or website that focuses on reflecting the social
networks or social relationships among young people who may share the same interests or activities.

Life's most important social interactions no longer rely on face–to–face exchanges. Brown's
research tells us that "the internet has drastically re–shaped our individual social lives over the
distance of just a couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions such
as living, loving, belonging and separating require new protocols" (Brown, A, 2011 p 29). For many
in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website. Dating sites,
which we have once thought of as an "uncool" way to meet and connect with new people, have
grown in popularity. They may perhaps be seen to have taken on the role that was once filled by
family and friends. 'Facilitating and managing relationships online is projected to become close to a
billion dollar industry in the United States in 2011', (Brown, A, 2011 p30). Changes in online social
relationships have increased rapidly, particularly over the past 30 years. 'Generational differences
increase as the pace of social change increase', Shapiro said, (Salman, J, 2009). Several different
generations, for example the baby boomer generation, generation Y and generation X, have
embraced online social networking. As of 2009, 73% of teenagers between the ages of 12–17 use
online networking sites. This is an increase from 58% in 2007. Specifically, 82% of teenagers
between the ages of 14 & 17 and 55% of youth between 12 & 13 year olds have a social networking

Social Media And Its Effects On Society Essay
Social media sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram, provide
opportunities for people to connect with each other and have become exceedingly popular in recent
years. However, there are increased numbers of mental health problems such as mood problems,
emotional issues, and addiction in teenagers as they overuse social media. Advocates of social
media may claim that social networking platforms benefit adolescents by increasing connectivity,
helping people make friends, and giving young adults a sense of belonging. However, they
overestimate the benefits of new technology and lack of consideration on the dangerous influence it
has. In fact, social media generates addiction, causes feeling of inferiority, and promotes bullying
that trigger bad moods and unhealthy emotion which endanger teenagers' mental health. Social
networking platform offer a convenient way for individuals to post their comments, views, personal
experiences, and share their profiles with others. Duggan and Smith (2013) interviewed 1,801
teenagers and found that 73% of respondents used various forms of social media (p. 1). Social
media sites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram, are widely used around
the world, and 13– to 19–year–olds account for the largest segment of users for most social media
sites (Kulraj, 2015, p. 4). In a recent poll, O'Keeffe and Clarke–Pearson (2011) analyzed the

The Use of Social Networking Sites
Introduction:
Human beings by and large are social. They feel an inherent need to connect and expand their
connections. There is a deep rooted need among humans to share.
In the past, due to geographical distances and economic concerns, connections between people were
limited. A social network is made up of individuals that are connected to one another by a particular
type of interdependency. It could be ideas, values, trade, anything. Social networks operate on many
levels. Initially social networking happened at family functions where all relative and friends ...

2) Reducing Worker Productivity
There has been evidence to suggest social networking sites are harming businesses. Their employees
are wasting time right throughout the day by participating in social networking sites rather than
actually working. It has been stated that Facebook alone is accountable to wasting more than £130
million a day in the UK.
3) How Much Do Social Networking Sites Know?
Perhaps social networking sites have learnt a bit too much information for comfort, Facebook
knows via their program 'Facebook Beacon' that analyses our natural online behaviour – how long
we are on the internet for, how often we visit certain websites etc. They monitor your activity even
when you aren't actually even logged in to Facebook!
4) Potential to Cause Harm
There has been many reported cases, where fake accounts have been made, that lead to horrific
tragedies. Such as in October 2006 a fake MySpace account was created that was given the name of
Josh Evans that was closely linked to the suicide of Megan Meier.
5) The Case of Cyber–Bullying
As many young teenagers are using social networking sites as a form of communication, this just
provides bullies with another opportunity to traumatise their victims. With few

Argumentative Essay On Social Media
As social media has been on the rise for the past 10 years, so has the concern about the effect on
people. A college student name Alexandra Tendler wrote an article about how social media make us
anti–social and how the world evolves their lives around social media. Though social media has
now become one of the world's biggest resources, it's now affecting people on how they deal with
things going on in the real world. This argument contains visual evidence and insights to support
their claims and it also contains a flaw or two. It's not that Alexandra misworded or miss the point of
the arguments, but this is indeed an opinionated topic and it misses the reality of things and how
people deal with it. In the article, Alexandra stated that" How did the world get so interesting in
phones than the world around us, I feel that the statement holds a piece of truth and it's also wrong
at the same time. This statement holds true because somehow people get too involved with their
phone and forget their surroundings. This statement also holds flaws because in today's world
phones are people life, they do have their Jobs, Family, and Money all tied up into their phones.
Alexandra also stated that "Social media has become a form of commutation", this statement is
considered to be factual and true because social media has helped people find their High school

a variety of issues, including safety concerns, privacy, and usage. A social network is "an online

Sometimes, people get so socially attached to something online that they lose touch with friends,
"creating small gaps and holes in close friendships/relationships" (Roots of Action). Another big
downside of social networking is cyberbullying. The use of social networks exposes individuals to
harassment or inappropriate contact. "Social media is one of the foremost causes of cyberbullying in
recent years" (Final Inquiry Project). Cyberbullying victims no longer put schoolwork or homework
first. They think that if they attend school and try to make friends, they will be judged the same way
they were online. Three million teens and kids are absent from school per month due to bullying
online. In several cases, victims of cyberbullying have been driven to suicide. "20% of kids
cyberbullied think about suicide, and 1 in 10 attempt it" (Cyber Bully). Social media is available to
predators as well as friends and has spread widely among young people. Due to social networking
sites, employee productivity is lost in the workplace. "The unrestricted usage of social media is
having a negative impact on employee productivity" (Digital Vidya 2017). Facebook is the most
popular and most frequently visited social network platform used in the workplace. "People get in
after lunch hours and then lose themselves on social media. We estimate to be losing around 20%
productivity because of this juvenile behavior" (Digital Vidya 2017). It

Research Paper on Facebook Diminishing Privacy
Privacy is often defined as freedom from the observation, intrusion, or attention of others. If that
was taken away from daily life the world would become a collection of omniscient beings that walk
around with potentially harmful information about those surrounding them. Stalking would be
unnecessary because the internet would do all for the work for us. Social networking sites are
creating many such concerns. One of the most widely known social networking sites is Facebook.
When reviewing Facebook's privacy policy, you may want to keep in mind that "an examination of

All you have to do to understand some of the implications of such a situation is assume that your
friend has a parent or family member as their friend. That family member can now see where your
friend is, who they're with, and what they're doing. This is usually a less than desirable occurrence.
Another popular feature is the ability to upload photos. "Users share four Billion pieces of content
per day, including uploads of 250million photos" (Wilson). When you add a picture to your
Facebook you're given the ability to tag your friends in it. This presents the same privacy issues as
tagging a friend in your status. Some may even consider being tagged in a picture to be worse than
being tagged in a status. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and most of us don't think
about what implications those words may have on our friends before tagging them in seemingly
harmless photos. Besides your friends and possible risqué activities being displayed in your
pictures, your location may be obvious. Deriving your location based on your surroundings may be
harder than looking at a location check–in, but it is far from impossible, especially with motivation.
If someone is determined to invade your privacy they'll be able to do just that. Often looked past is
the email constraint that comes along

Online Social Networking Service Company
0. Facebook is an online social networking service company since 2004. It was started as the online
platform to be connected for ivy–league university students and later extended to general public. It
has a market worth of $ 148 billion in 2014 and has more than 1 billion subscribers online. The case
illustrates about the exploitation of user data by Facebook to generate revenue. The user data is used
to deliver to highest bidder and earn revenue. 1. Facebook is collecting the extensive personal
information from its users. The information is in the form of personal details, pictures and life
events. The reason for turning the information into big databases is to serve relevant advertising that
suits the taste of a particular person. But, collecting the information to generate revenue is the
unethical practice in business and that is the biggest dilemma of Facebook to earn revenue without
privacy damage of the users as it provides free service. The company faced various lawsuits for
gathering user data without user consent. Even they keep the track of the users visiting Facebook's
widget on other websites by capturing time and IP address information. It is not sure whether the
company will stop finding alternative ways to exploit data and selling it to highest bidders for
advertising. The reason being the limited source of revenues and failure of management to take care
of privacy concerns. 2. Facebook's mainstream revenue is entirely dependent on advertising. In the

Social Networking Effects On The Socialization Of People
What if Facebook was used to its fullest potential? In twelve years the social networking
site has surely grown quite a bit from the site intended to allow Harvard students to connect with
one another. Today, Facebook is a site filled with advertisements and cheaply made free–to–play
games. Cat pictures and cheery posts that say, "Like/share if you love Jesus!" riddle the
landscape of a service that is supposed to be actually connecting people. Things like this have led
people to lose hope in online social networking. To some it seems like it has become a detriment
to society. However, the results of what happens when it is used properly should not be
overlooked. Online social networking in general promotes actual relationships and benefits our
society by providing a medium perfect for connecting with people in a variety of ways. As with
everything, there are those who think differently, believing that social
networking has adverse effects on the socialization of people. "It's still surprising to me,
however, this combination of Orwell and WALL–E that has humans watching one another
through computer screens and socializing through in quasi–isolation," remarks an article
on Times.com (Davis). Those of that opinion think that indirect communication via online
social networking will lead to increased isolationist tendencies. While these seem like valid
concerns, if anything, those feared online social networks actually help people in social

Introduction
The internet is one of the most dynamic inventions in the history of mankind. It spreads knowledge
and allows for rapid communication amongst untold numbers of people on a scale previously
unimaginable. It has revolutionized countless aspects of the modern world, ranging from its effects
on business practices and the economy to creating new forms of leisure activities and educational
content. The multitude of ways the internet has affected the modern world is truly astonishing.
Online social networking is a relatively recent phenomenon of the internet. Online social networks

Dean trailed in the polls miserably, garnering support that was typically less than the margin of
error. But Dean was a unique candidate. Part of his appeal was that he was not a traditional polished
politician, but was an "outsider" to the political game. The Dean campaign was not getting much
media coverage (Trippi called them "dismissive"). The Dean camp felt the only way to succeed was
to bypass the traditional means of building a campaign and "appeal directly to the American people"
(Rampton, 2004).
Joe Trippi brought with him a background of working for dot–coms in Silicon Valley, giving him
significant exposure to the web. He noticed that while Dean trailed in the polls, the social
networking portal Meetup.com (where users group up on a specific topic and propose meeting times
at local venues) had 432 members for the Howard Dean group, more than any other political
candidate. Trippi put a link to the Meetup.com portal on the Dean campaign site–membership leapt
to 2,700, while the next closest Democratic candidate, John Kerry, had only 330 members
(Rampton, 2004). These numbers would continue to grow: in January of 2004, just before the Iowa
caucuses, Dean boasted 177,000 people registered

The Dangers Of Social Media
Carlos M. Fernandez Cornelius Brownlee Fund. Of Speech September 18, 2015 Dangers of Social
Media In the offline world, communities are much more easily managed, and rules enforced.
However, in the virtual world that is the internet, rules become arbitrary. It is scary how much we
have incorporated social media into our lives, to the point we are almost dependent on it. While
social networking sites may have started off as places where we could share thoughts with our peers
and communicate with our family, they has since evolved into wild beasts. Privacy has become
practically non–existent, security concerns are arising, people are becoming more isolated; these,
among many others are the side effect of these so popular social networking sites. But what's worse
is most people can't see the dangers associated with them, and even those who do are too afraid to
be left out. As the internet becomes more populated, monetized, and anonymous, privacy becomes
more of a dream than a reality. I was recently shocked by an article titled " 'We didn 't mean to track
you '" that I came across on the Daily Mail. According to author Bates, Facebook admitted that is
has been monitoring the sites their users visit. The networking organization claimed that the privacy
violation was simply a mistake that would log the sites members accessed while logged in. In fact,
Facebook was watching their users' browsing history even after they logged out, which greatly

A Study On Data Collection
Data collection will be a combination of qualitative and quantitative. It is important to use a
combination of both because it will provide more information about application of the study and
how future research should be conducted. Before the semester meeting with professors of the ALI
program at UMKC to seek permission to begin the study is vital. Meeting early on also begins to
form strong communication which is necessary to ensure that assignments and ways of
incorporating Facebook in the classroom are different from previous studies. There will be one
introductory session with each of the four courses composed of 30 or so students, collectively there
will be about 120 students involved in this study. Students will not be informed on the purpose of
the study, only that their progress in English will be tracked. Information will be collection from the
students that wish to participate such as demographic and contact information, as well as how
comfortable they feel with their English. The rest of the surveys throughout the course of the
semester will be sent via email. Professors will be making notes of progress or possible problems
and at the end of the study they will share how Facebook impacted ELLs' motivation to learn
English, if it did at all. Twice a month students will take a survey that asks them to answer ranging
questions from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree", or "extremely well" to "not at all well".

Does online social networking hinder the development of...
The 21st century has seen the internet transformed into a tool that has made communication easier
and more accessible. This transformation came about side by side with ideas of online social
networks that would enable the interaction of citizens of different countries. Teenagers, being the
main players of the online generation, have been caught up in the mix of online social networks as
they have grown into a period whereby technology has revolutionized the way people go about their
daily activities. However, due to the excessive amount of time spent on these networks and the
online freedom that teenagers have, granted from social networking sites, they are left prone to
negative effects on their development. For the purposes of this ... Show more content on

Furthermore, from a 2010 nationwide survey of more than 1000 girls aged 14–17 conducted by Girl
Scouts of America, girls with low self esteem admitted that their online image did not match their
real image and were more likely to claim that they portrayed it as 'sexy' (Muscari). Therefore, online
social networking use should be monitored primarily on the creation of user identities to prevent
teenagers from developing exaggerated identities which do not match who they really are.
Furthermore, the exaggeration of personalities may lead to confusion between who a teenager really
is and who he/she portrays to the online realm. The terms of service of these online social networks
require a user to be age 13 or above (Facebook Terms of service). Erik Erikson, a developmental
psychologist who studied identity formation argues that "this age correlates with the stage of
identity versus identity confusion [whereby] teenagers seek to find out who they are, what they are
all about, and where they are going in life" (Cowie). This confusion could be detrimental to the
development of teenagers as it might lead to identity crises or lack of identity and other types of
depression diseases associated with it. Thus, online social networks hinder adolescent identity
formation because they allow them to exaggerate their personalities and form new identities which
can lead to identity confusion and associated disorders. Secondly, without supervision, the

The Importance Of Social Media
Social media as a whole has a major impact on human interaction and connectivity, networking
platforms such as Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook facilitate in the corrosion of real
communication in the community. Over the years, attachment to technology is becoming more and
more unavoidable because we receive instant gratification from our social media platforms. The
ability of social media to attract a wide variety of individuals in mass quantity prove extremely
beneficial for individuals of all sorts. However, this form of communication comes with real world
drawbacks as well. Essentially social media is eradicating face–to–face communication, doctoring
self–representation, an inevitable form of distraction and spreading fallacy of information.
Social media serves many purposes, increase physical communication is not one of them. Lack of
physical communication can be attributed to doctoring self–representation. Selective advertisements
and popularity thrive on social media. For example, YouTube, a social media that primarily allows
videos to be posted, encourages the individual to display their life in its best representation to attract
the most amount attention as possible. In doing so, individuals have the ability to paint their
personality in any way they please. This allows individuals to be perceived in a different light than
they are in reality. The Tinder Effect article further illuminates' the concept of digital eligibility

Managing Big Data Systems
Definite answers regarding how much usable data is actually being generated by city–sized
populations, and best places to get it could be the subject of a future study, but social media
platforms may be the source most easily tapped into for this type of data. Employees of local IT
departments are in danger of having difficulties storing and processing data from social media
platforms to use as a foundation for aligning social network analysis with the systems . There is a
growing demand for those having the necessary skillsets to deal with big data. Local governments
(especially smaller–sized ones) might have special difficulty acquiring these resources which makes
finding a comprehensive solution for combining "big data", SNA, and GIS even more difficult, as
data manipulators are in short supply. A survey supporting a Public CIO Special Report ("The
Trouble with Big Data Talent," 2013), finds that more than half of government agencies polled were
experiencing data–related hiring difficulties – meaning there is a shortage of individuals who
possess an engineering background, can model data mathematically and can contribute to
organizations effectively using data insights for decision making.

advantages of easily obtainable information is easy to access and very convenience to use social
media. We can access social media from most of the smart phones, iPad, iPhone, Tablet, etc. It is
easy and convenient for everyone to go to one place and get the latest news, to connect with family
and friends instantly, and listen to music, charts with friends and family. We can even watch a video
while we are charting with many different people at the same time. It is much better than we must

communications at the same time instantly with social media.

Online Consumer Behaviors And Social Networking
ABSTRACT
With businesses seeking to seize the momentum of social media and social networking, technology–
enabled social commerce has emerged to combine the power of online social networking with
shopping. This study examines an emerging area in E–commerce, i.e., social commerce. Extending
the online consumer behavior typology, this study categorizes online consumer behaviors into three
types: transactional, informational, and social. While traditional E–commerce supports the
transactional and informational aspects of online shopping, social commerce fulfils the social
aspects of shopping, and potentially enhances the informational aspect as well. This research
examines the online shopper as a prospective user of an emerging social commerce platform, the
social shopping website, which are sites designed specifically to support social interactions while
online consumers shop. The study augments the Technology Acceptance Model with constructs that
enhance the specificity of the model to the social shopping application of social commerce. The
model was empirically tested and supported. The results provide empirical evidence to support the
importance of distinguishing the social aspect of shopping from the information and transactional
aspects, as well as the potential advantage to using technology to promote social interactions on E–
commerce sites. Implications and future research are discussed. Keywords: E–commerce, internet,

Recent studies, for example, Golder, Wilkinson and Huberman (2007), Arvanitis and Loukis (in

of human behaviour to fulfil the need to communicate and connect with people they know, meet
new people who share a common interest, collaborate, participate and share information and
knowledge as well as gain new knowledge. Generally, these are also the reasons why individuals
engage in social behaviour via the Internet. To many, the Internet provides effective social
networking opportunities and their online behaviour includes building individual relationships,
expanding their personal network of friends, finding people who have had similar experiences,
discussing common topics of interest, dating and finding potential life partners, staying connected to
old friends or distant family and virtually meeting peers, including work colleagues, to discuss
current issues or topics of interest.

Business and Human Services organizations all over the world try to look for different ways to
improve and be successful. One of the ways organizations have been able to maintain success is by
networking and linking themselves with similar organizations. A website that provides organizations
with this type of networking is LinkedIn. In week two I was given the task to research and

Being tied into an online community helps an organization stay connected to other human service
agencies and the ability to offer more types of support services. For example, one human service
agency may provide speech and occupational therapy, where as their community link specializes in
integration behavioral therapy, which their client needs. What then happens is a quality referral to
that agency. These two organizations were able to work together, provide more services, all for the
greater good of the client's needs. How it works is that an online user can search for an organization
under the search tool. Once an organization is found the user could research statistics regarding the

Social Media And Its Impact On The Workplace Essay
Social media becomes important in people's lives despite age, gender, social level, profession,
language or locality. Modern technologies are used by individuals including student nurses across
the world for different purposes, such as, to stay up to date with worldwide news; exchange
information or ideas and share views; aid in recovery and education; keep in touch with family and
friends. This comes with great responsibilities for nurses not only to become confident social media
users and incorporate this knowledge into practice for patient and nurses benefits, but also to be
aware of organisational policies and legislations in the workplace to avoid consequences on a "legal,
ethical and professional" level for improper use of social media (Kientz & Kupperschmidt, 2011,
p.1).
Social media can also known as social networking. As Kaplan and Haenlein (2010, p.61) defined, "a

To launch social media marketing campaigns, all businesses need to do is sign up for free with each
social network they want to use. Once registered, businesses can create individual profiles for their
business and start posting content, such as industry trends, company news and promotional
information right away. This phenomenon has only developed within the last decade, thus social
media research has largely focused on (1) defining what it is through the explanation of new
terminology and concepts that makeup its foundations, and (2) exploring the impact of a company's
integration of social media on consumer behavior. This paper begins with an explanation of
terminology that defines social media marketing, followed by a discussion of the four main themes

examining what factors affect consumer behavior relative to social networking. Despite the initial
progress made by researchers, development in this area of

what to do if a stranger approaches them online. Monitoring software will allow you to monitor,

fear in your child that their phones will be taken away from them if they do encounter problems. If
problems do occur, talk through the issues in a calm and rational way, and try to help your child
devise sensible self–protection strategies should they encounter problems again in the future.
Use inbuilt tools and services – Mobile operators take safety issues very seriously, and there are a

How Technology Can Be Dangerous For Youth
In this day and age, technology is a major part of our everyday lives. Think of our schedules and
where technology fits into them. We wake up, with an alarm clock; technology. We make breakfast,
in a microwave; technology. We commute, in cars; technology. Almost everything we do involves
technology. One form that commonly occupies our attention and focus is social media. Social media
is any communication that can be done using electronics. Not only do older people find themselves
immersed in social media, but so do children. This form of technology can be dangerous for youth,
tactically imbedding snares, which can easily entangle them. One thing, or person should I say, that
children don't think about when they are networking on social media, is the adult predator.
According to the article "Children Must Be Protected from the Content of Social Networking Web

adolescents are very vulnerable. They can accidentally give out too much information to these older

What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And...

  • 1. What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And... Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of users. Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction on the Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo sharing, chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in–person communications while increasing total communication (McAndrew & Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek & Förster, 2017). While there may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is a change in self–perception and self–esteem after Facebook usage. People tend to compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons, through abilities, emotion, personality traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the self (de Vries & Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014; van den Berg & Thompson, 2007) and self–perception is how people see themselves (de Vries & Kühne, 2015). These social comparisons are continually growing with the creation and expanded use of social networking sites. While Facebook and other sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents and young adults, an excessive amount of Facebook use can have a negative effect on self–esteem, self–perception, and well–being while trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance. ... • 2. Is Employer Monitoring of Employee Social Media Justified?... Is Employer Monitoring of Employee Social Media Justified? Bus 330 Social networks have been making a splash in the internet world over the past couple of years. In some studies into the monitoring of social media activity by employees has once again brought to light the various concerns and complaints that this contentious area inevitably generates. The idea of monitoring employees' conversations has a certain Orwellian darkness that encourages accusations of privacy invasion and corporate spying. Indeed, some companies have taken this too far – some reportedly even requesting their employee's Facebook login details. However, by and large the concept of employee monitoring – when done appropriately – seems to me to be relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are, of course, grey areas within this debate. It is appropriate that any social media post that identifies the individual's employer is of justified interest to that employer. However, where an individual discusses work situations without identifying the employer it is perhaps harder to justify this intrusion. The obvious line here is that companies should, by and large, restrict themselves to monitoring mentions of their brand or senior executives and should stay away from monitoring individual staff names on their own unless otherwise justified. Indeed, we have picked up significant quantities of content from client's employees without specifically monitoring for individuals. Examples include a delivery driver who tweeted about how little work he did and an individual who expressed support for a group protesting against their employer. These posts – where the individual clearly named their employer – could have had a significant impact on the companies' public reputations and therefore were of justified interest to the companies in question. Yes, there are subsequent questions about how a company should act upon this sort of information. Whether one should discipline an employee for discussing workplace conditions online could be a legal minefield, but that is an HR issue and not a monitoring one. What seems certain is that ... • 3. Social Networking in the Business World Essay Abstract Business professionals today face challenges that just did not exist centuries ago. In a world of tough competition and ever–changing trends, to be successful and effective in business, you must constantly strive to stay one step ahead of your competitors, and be on the lookout for new ways to get noticed. Social networking has emerged as one of the latest trends in business today, and utilizing the social media for sales, marketing, and recruiting can drive your business and help it flourish. Online social networks are becoming critical business tools, and with this technology at your fingertips, you must take advantage of the opportunity, and let the social media take some of the guesswork out of your business strategies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As reported by Shih (2010), in The Facebook Era, "more than 750 million people around the world are on social networking sites," where they seemingly spend more than 20 billion minutes a day. With so many people spending time on social networking sites, it only seems logical that these sites might be used as a stage for marketing, sales, employment prospects, and making business contacts, just to name a few possibilities. With so many choices for social networking platforms, it is important to know what the social web is all about, what different sites are out there and how they differ from one another. Chief among the popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Each of these sites is utilized for different reasons, and to best use them to your advantage in business, you should be aware of the differences. Facebook, according to Shih (2010) and many of her sources, "is the largest social networking site globally by an order of magnitude," and "recently even beat out Google in becoming the most trafficked site on the Internet." With that said, it should be obvious that there is tremendous business potential for marketing, advertisement, and sales on sites such as Facebook. Besides Facebook, LinkedIn is also a very popular site; "used by more than 95% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Online Social Networking Service Created By Paul Budnitz... Ello is an online social networking service created in 2014 by Paul Budnitz and Todd Berger. This website was created as an ad–free replacement for the existing social media networks such as Facebook and Pinterest. Ello's manifesto as mentioned on its website is that "we believe in beauty, simplicity, and transparency. We believe that the people who make things and the people who use them should be in partnership." Ello is designed by creators, for creators. It is not a service to sell or buy products via advertisements. Ello is a website that allows its users to be spread their art and their creativity to make a living. This missing feature should have been added when they got feedback from users while the product was in production' however it was not taken care of; which made it one of the reasons behind the products failure in the market. In today's generation, the one thing a new upcoming company or business should remember is that mobile phones are becoming a daily driver for most of the consumer. Thus, creating an app would make the company more profitable in the market. Not having a mobile app is a major downside since most people use social media on their phone while commuting somewhere or when they wake up in the morning. No one would want to turn on their laptop and scroll through. It would just make it a big hassle for people. If you want to be successful in today's market you have to be different than what your competition is using or you won't survive. In a world of quick technology advancement being ad–free doesn 't cut it, you need to be different. Competing to Facebook and Pinterest, social media websites that have already established in the market, it would be hard for a startup with a similar idea to get to that level. Most people are already comfortable with and trust the existing and well–known companies rather than someone new and upcoming that isn't popular. In order to make this product successful the first thing to change would be to make the service be public for all of its users. It should not be an invite only social media ... • 5. Questions On Social Networking, Concussion And Athletes,... 1. What is your possible topic? Brainstorm five questions about it. In this section pick a topic from the above list and then brainstorm five questions you have about it. If you feel disconnected from the topics on the list, choose one of your own, but make sure it is not an "overused topic," such as abortion, gun control, capital punishment, or legalization of marijuana (unless you have personal experience with the topic and can offer a unique perspective). Also, beware of current issues that might not be well–researched yet; you may not find enough sources at this time. When I was a manager at a company, I had to administer many policies as they related to my employees. On of these policies was called the Social Media Policy. This policy was meant to protect the company from malicious posts regardless of the intent. To summarize this policy stated that if you in anyway identified yourself as an employee. So if an employee wanted to they could rant about the company or other employees as long as they did not identify the company, list the company as an employer or list the names of employees that are know to work for the company. Social Networking with a Purpose: Creating a Positive Online Profile Although social networking sites are still in their infancy, they have certainly become a primary means of communication and connectivity for millions of consumers. While most Internet users have heard of the largest online social networks like Facebook and MySpace, thousands of smaller networks exist that connect individuals through specific user communities (e.g. educators, physicians, professors, etc.). At this time, Facebook is the fastest growing social networking site on the Internet (Nielson, 2008). As the social networking phenomenon enters its second decade, new issues arise as so much personal information becomes ever more available through the Internet. Since their inception, social networks have attracted millions of young people who have made social networking an integral part of their daily practice (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). In November 2008, MySpace had over 59 million unique visitors to its site, each spending about two minutes per visit. Facebook members logged in over 47 million times in the same month, an increase of 116% over the previous year (Nielson, 2008). But social networking isn't just for kids anymore. Taking a Look at Facebook and Linkedin The social networking service, Facebook, was created by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommate, who both attended Harvard University, and launched Facebook in February 2004 (Phillips, 2007). Once the social networking sight went viral, the website's membership was no longer limited to Harvard students– college students from the rest of the United States and Canada soon started to use the social media service (History of Facebook, 2014). Facebook has become so popular and globally spread, that it is now being used by individuals and businesses worldwide. Mark Zuckerberg stated that the core idea of Facebook was to create a platform for people to share and connect with others who are prevalent in one's life (Our Community to the Facebook Community, 2011). Facebook has created a borderless world and civilians can connect with friends and family who are dispersed all over the world. Publicising one's life on the internet is risky, and has lead the Facebook team to create privacy settings to limit others access to the user's information. Facebook wanted to ensure that users would feel comfortable to share moments and events about their real lives without being fearful of unwanted individuals viewing this information (Knibbs, 2014). This defining fact gave way to individuals, for the first time, having tools that they can use to broadcast their lives and connect with others. Therefore, one can consider these adolescents as a social network addict, a person who spends a fair amount of time on one or many social platforms. Throughout the three articles, "Social Networking Addiction: An Overview of Preliminary Findings" by Mark Griffiths, "Social Network Sites: Definition, History, and Scholarship" by Nicole B. Ellison and "Taking Risky Opportunities in Youthful Content Creation: Teenagers' use of Social Networking Sites for Intimacy, Privacy, and Self–expression" by Sonia Livingstone, demonstrate how this addiction has impacted people's communication among people. While there are positive and negative aspects of social networking, the negative aspects tend to overpower the positive ones when it comes to communication. Although it increases a person's ability to contact with others quickly, it also decreased people's ability to have those face to face conversations because they spend a significant amount of time online. Although social networking is addicting, it contributes to an easier, wider, quicker, and broader communication with others. It has been shown through studies that people who are on social sites create more and new contacts from other places. For many in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website. However, there are increased numbers of mental health problems such as mood problems, emotional issues, and addiction in teenagers as they overuse social media. Advocates of social media may claim that social networking platforms benefit adolescents by increasing connectivity, helping people make friends, and giving young adults a sense of belonging. However, in the virtual world that is the internet, rules become arbitrary. It is scary how much we have incorporated social media into our lives, to the point we are almost dependent on it. While social networking sites may have started off as places where we could share thoughts with our peers and communicate with our family, they has since evolved into wild beasts. Privacy has become practically non–existent, security concerns are arising, people are becoming more isolated; these, among many others are the side effect of these so popular social networking sites. Therefore, online social networking use should be monitored primarily on the creation of user identities to prevent teenagers from developing exaggerated identities which do not match who they really are. Furthermore, the exaggeration of personalities may lead to confusion between who a teenager really is and who he/she portrays to the online realm. The terms of service of these online social networks require a user to be age 13 or above (Facebook Terms of service). Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist who studied identity formation argues that "this age correlates with the stage of identity versus identity confusion [whereby] teenagers seek to find out who they are, what they are all about, and where they are going in life" (Cowie). This confusion could be detrimental to the development of teenagers as it might lead to identity crises or lack of identity and other types of depression diseases associated with it. Thus, online social networks hinder adolescent identity formation because they allow them to exaggerate their personalities and form new identities which can lead to identity confusion and associated disorders.
