Importance Of Writing Reflection
When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I
thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal.
As the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality did
not match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of this
course by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective.
As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn about
different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of journals, but it
was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research paper, it just did not
seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how to use Chicago Style
referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it nor to working on the
essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our understanding. I think that this
essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been spending time in class learning
about various historical journalists and how their work impacted the region in which it was created.
It just did not seem as though our homework matched our class work, so I was a little thrown off.
This imbalance was especially apparent because the room was deemed technology free, so we could
not even work on our essays while in class.

Identifying Their Usefulness Towards Students Studying...
Sustainability as stated in the oxford dictionary is defined as the ability of something to be
maintained at a certain rate or level. For Geographers this term is often widely used within the
discipline. It can be used to refer to sustainable development or to describe aspects within nature
such as sustainable environments. In this literature review, we will be looking at three different types
of resources that discuss sustainability. Before evaluating their usefulness towards students studying
geography. We will begin by looking at the most traditional form of resource used by students, a
book by Cabezas et al, that discusses a multi–disciplinary view of sustainability, then more on
towards more modern resources such as academic journals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

early on the book the importance of sustainability is stressed, linking it both the human and physical
geographical viewpoints in its analysis. Stating that the overconsumption, coupled with the dramatic
increase in our population, taxing the earth in what they argue in a way our species has not done so

disciplines. The book then proceeds to discuss the subject from a biological point of view, before
discussing the other disciplines views relating to the subject.

North Nicaragua. Stating that the majority of Nicaragua poor live in these semi–arid areas, where
access to natural resources is limited (Ravera et al 2013). Coupled along with the over–farming and
high population living within the area, the area suffers the undernourishment. Leading to low levels

With healthcare being such a rapidly developing field, it is essential that we, as aspiring medical
professionals, understand what is progressing in our profession. Within the blink of an eye health
care changes; doctors, professors, researchers, are all developing new theories, journals and studies
daily. It is our responsibility as current students in this field to do our best to further understand
these journals, studies, researches and the writing that is involved in our field. Why you may ask?

Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death
In Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Masque of the Red Death," he is trying to convey that people
can't ignore death, even if they try to distract themselves from it because death doesn't come at a
specific time. Prince Prospero tries to distract people from the Red Death by throwing a party,
thinking he can keep everyone safe from the Red Death because they're not thinking about it. Poe
uses the setting of the short story, the castle, to portray where everyone is hiding from the Red
Death, it's a beautiful place that is supposed to be protected. Then he uses the Prince to symbolize
distraction, as he attempts to keep everyone's mind of what was coming to them. He says, "The
Prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. There were buffoons, there were improvisatori,
there were ballet–dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was wine. All these and
security were within. Without was the "Red Death""(Poe. Pg 1). ... Show more content on

The author uses the clock's symbolism to set the idea that time is running out and that death is near.
The seven rooms were there to show how far everyone was in in their lives. No matter which room
somebody was in, the clocks chime could kill anybody at any given time. In the text it says, "And
one by one dropped the revellers in the blood–bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in a
despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the gay"(Poe.
page 4). At any given time death comes. It doesn't always meet someone at their last stage of life.
When the clock chimes one by one, the people follow the Prince into the doorway of death. The
author uses the Prince's death and everyone following to convey that not even those who distract
themselves can escape death, or their fears. Prince Prospero's death caused the distractions to end,
which caused everyone to face death one by

The Help Analysis
In "The Help", a film directed by Tate Taylor, an aspiring journalist and novelist named Skeeter is
bothered by the treatment black maids receive from their white employers. In order to open other's
eyes to said treatment, Skeeter decides to interview numerous black women and turn their
troublesome stories and unfair pasts into a published novel. One particular black woman, whom is
named Aibileen, shares with Skeeter her journal that contains both prayers and in–depth, heart–
wrenching stories of her life as a maid. Though I do not have any heart wrenching stories like
Aibileen does, nor do I plan to publish an eye–opening book like Skeeter did, I do have a situation
on my hands that bothers me. This particular situation slightly reminded me of "The Help" in the
sense that I also have a journal I have been keeping about the issue at hand which is bothering me.
Therefore, I found it fitting to follow the example Aibileen and Skeeter set by doing something
about their bothersome situation by attempting to do something about my own situation. I have been
a legal assistant at a law firm not far from my home since the time I was sixteen years old. When I
began working there, I had no previous work experience apart from babysitting, I was not very
outspoken, and I had zero legal knowledge. However, a partner attorney recognized that I had a
burning desire within me to learn and to become a talented, successful, respectable attorney once I
had graduated from high school. Therefore,

The British Medical Journal Separates A Genius 's Creative...
For the sake of this report, mental stability can be defined as the psychological condition of an
individual, based on exterior influence and inner conflict. Mental instability can include social
insecurity, lack of self–esteem, affective disorders, and other forms of mental illness. There is no
consistent link between creativity and mental instability, but there are inexplicably diverse
relationships between creativity and mental instability. Creative genius is the ability to think unlike
the general population in order to solve a problem or to come up with an imaginative innovation.
Geniuses tend to have a range of areas of expertise rather than one subject that they focus on so that
they can use multiple angles to approach their work. The British Medical Journal separates a
genius's creative process into three stages: acquiring information, subconsciously contemplating this
information over a long period of time, and finally reaching a "eureka moment," at which point they
synthesize the information into a coherent product. Creative geniuses lead a crucial role in society
because they promote infrastructural and cultural development. Thus, it is necessary to maintain the
mental health of creative geniuses in order for them to have a high quality of life and for society as a
whole to continue to develop.
Scientifically, there is a genetic link between creative genius and mental instability, excluding
complete insanity. According to Dean Keith Simonton, a well–known

Journaling Is A Common Practice
"An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across
the fingertips" (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn
't confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible
verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another.
Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a
source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful.
Journaling does not necessarily have a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us" (ESV, Ps.
62.6–8). The Psalms were like David's personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and
people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most
revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even
known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney
251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the
Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves.
They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, "The fact that
many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the
reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they
opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith" (qtd. in
Whitney 253–254). All of these people kept a journal

Essay on Nonsense for APA Formatting
This paper isn't going to make any sense at all; it's written just to practice APA formatting for
various references and to practice various in–text citations. I can tell that this paper is going to be
boring to write; therefore, it is probably going to be boring to read. Even so, it's still good practice
for future reference. The first type of references I'm using in this paper is two academic journals. I'm
going online to find two random academic journals to do so. In the journal, African Journal of
Business Ethics, Ogunyemi (2013) starts his writing with the quote, "Ethical reasoning is the
process of arriving at moral judgements." I have no idea of what else Ogunyemi writes about next.

audience. Newspapers are widely used for information, so I'm going to cite one as well. The nearest
newspaper to me is The Sun Star, and an interesting article in this newspaper is written by Kurtis
Gosney. He states in his article that, "The UAF Men's basketball team played in the annual GCI
Alaska Invitational last Thursday..." (Gosney, 2012, p. 1), and I got bored of reading the article from
there. Nonetheless, good job Nanooks for being champions. Speaking of champions, writing

1. Thesis– The author, M. Nick Hajli, succeeds in conveying to the reader the ways in which social
media provokes social interaction amongst society. Hajli specifically states that he strives to "
...show how social media facilitate(s) the social interaction of consumers, leading to increased trust
and intention to buy" ( Hajli, 387) . Furthermore, Hajli accomplishes his goal of displaying the
significance of trust on the consumers' intention to buy. Hajli accomplishes these goals by explicitly
stating his intentions for the entire paper in the abstract and at the beginning of each paragraph in his
research. Additionally, Hajli maintains a structured format in his paper that is supported by relevant
research for this topic.
2.Subject (5–8 sentences)– The subject of this journal is the impact of social media on consumers.
This subject particularly pertains to the business side of social media, however, the research can be
applied in multiple fields of study. The subject is broken down into a series of questions that need to
be answered. These questions include: Do social media and social networking sites affect user's trust
and does PU ( perceived usefulness) and trust affect the user's intention to buy? These questions,
among many more, are viably answered through support in multiple complex research projects and
tests. The research projects and tests are discussed in depth to support the

Electronic Medical/Health Record: Journal Article Analysis
Journal Article Analysis of Patient satisfaction with electronic medical/health record: a systematic

strengths and shortcomings of this article in relation to patient satisfaction with electronic medical
records. This journal article aimed to accomplish two objectives, the first being to establish if
patients are satisfied with the electronic medical record system and if so to what degree (Liu, Luo,

electronic health record (EHR) system lead to patient satisfaction. The hope was once these factors

Before this article there was not much supportive documentation on the patient response to the
implementation of EMR/EHR systems. The article concluded that patients are satisfied with the use
of EMR/EHR but there are flaws within this study. The studies conducted themselves have
shortcomings, such as their inability to precisely quantify patient satisfaction. The article
acknowledges that the measurements obtained for patient satisfaction have potential flaws.
Additionally, two survey studies conducted obtained extremely low response rates at 33% and 46%
(Liu, Luo, Zhang & Huang, 2013, 788). The low response rate is indicative of a selection biases
which if this is true, questions the validity of the article's conclusion. Since the survey was optional
to complete, it is possible that only patients who were informed about the system and strong positive
feelings associated with it chose to respond (Liu, Luo, Zhang & Huang, 2013, 788). More in depth
studies need to be completed to further quantify the validity of this study's results and aim to remove
any potential selection bias. Measuring patient satisfaction is highly subjective and difficult to

A major outbreak of Lead Poisoning in Northern Nigeria
Preliminary Issues A major outbreak of Lead Poisoning in Northern Nigeria, more specifically in the
area of the Zamfara State, is described by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) as the "biggest epidemic
of Lead Poisoning in modern history." The height of the outbreak caused children mortality rates to
sky rocket. This situation is still a current crisis today – for those who still suffer from lead
poisoning, and for the survivors who are now struggling with the dire disabilities. According to
news report released by NPR Health, the original crisis was caused due to locals processing of ore
for gold. The area that was being processed for ore was laced with lead; when the ore was grinded to
extract the gold, the process generated clouds of "lead–laden" dust, which was carried home by the
workers and inhaled by the children (NPR Health News). The result showed an alarming impact on
the mortality rate of children who were exposed to lead. According to The African Journal of
Medicine and Medical Sciences, approximately 400 children died within the first couple days of the
lead infested mining incident, and a total of 40% of children died in the village of Zamfara within
the year (The African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences). Medical attention was brought to
the area when there was an unusual notice for the experience of deaths, vomiting of blood, and
seizures in children. Health professionals discovered that while the international concerned level of

In general, technology is never perfect, and that is why it is important that people become more
informed about cybersecurity. In the online Academic Journal "Building Cybersecurity Awareness:
The need for evidence–based framing strategies." By Hans de Bruijn and Marijn Janssen. Hans de
Bruijn states "Almost everybody has heard of cybersecurity, however, the urgency and behavior of
persons do not reflect high level of awareness. The internet is all too often considered as a safe
environment for sharing information, transactions and controlling the physical world, yet cyberwars
are already ongoing and there is an urgent need to be better prepared." That just shows how in
reality we as a society are not looking at the bigger picture. We worry less about how with a push of
a button tons of information can be stolen or even erased. As Hans mentioned cyberwars are
happening in front of us without us realizing it. That is why as a society with access to a great deal
of technology people need to be more aware of cybersecurity. There are many ways that the public
can be made aware of it. One of those ways is to show actual evidence to people who tend to
prioritize technology, and the online network instead of just giving them a warning. That way
awareness can spread on how to be prepared in case that person is a target in the future. Another

Welcoming DORA, Rafols24 goes a step further and asks "Will it now become shameful in science
to boast of the IF of one's publications?" Bruce Alberts points out that the misuse of journal IF is
highly destructive, and argues that it encourages gaming that can bias journals against publishing
certain types of papers, waste time overloading some journals with inappropriate submissions, and
encourage 'me–too' science in favour of more risky, potentially groundbreaking work23.
Brembs et al.,26 have argued that the current system of journal ranking "is not only technically
obsolete, but also counter–productive and a potential threat to the scientific endeavour". Eve27
recommends an alternative to the existing journal publishing systems where scholarly
communication will be restored to the research institutions in an archival publication system,
managed by a 'research output team,' in which both text and raw data are archived and made
accessible, after peer–review. The new system will have its own metric of evaluation.
However, one thing that seems to be universal is the preference of almost all who write research
papers to get them published in journals of high IF. Journals, even the most prominent ones, flaunt
their latest impact factor on the cover page! What is worse,

A Genre Analysis of Graduate-Level Reading Response Blogs...
Introduction
As a community, academics are increasingly accepting the use of public, online, journal style
writings known as weblogs (blogs) as a valid pedagogy for the classroom. The attraction of using
blogs within a classroom setting stems mainly from the discursive possibilities that the new
technology offers: namely, that blogs allow for a discussion of nearly any topic in a socially
moderated medium that encourages participants to compare, expand upon, and modify their
understanding of that topic in relation to the ideas of their peers. While these discourses may serve
any variety of purposes, one growing use of the medium is as a format for reading responses–a
somewhat traditional pedagogical approach within Composition Studies, ... Show more content on

Second, because they are written by students seeking advanced degrees, their language,
sophistication, and features are likely in sharp contrast to blogs written by undergraduate and K–12
students. Finally, they do not appear to follow any special criteria for classroom blogs, although (as
will become evident in the following analysis) they do display a few moderating characteristics that
show evidence of conformity to a common set of discursive moves and practices.
The value of the academic blog, both in general and in its many sub–genres, is that it allows students
to write for an audience broader than the teacher (who inevitably becomes the "real" audience for
most graded assignments) and yet narrower and more specific than the often described "general
academic audience;" in other words, by writing for and often responding to their peers, students are
able to develop a rhetorical awareness of audience that they are rarely afforded in more traditional

Strategic Issues the Association Should Address Essay
TO: APSA Council
RE: Council Discussion Topic: Organized Sections
This overview is designed to help launch a Council small group discussion about journals, and about
strategic issues the Association may wish to address. The memo notes salient issues the Association
is or will soon face. The themes included here are surely not complete and the goal is for a
discussion that helps ferret out or sharpen heretofore unarticulated issues as well as the ones we see
now.

APSA Organized Sections have been a mainstay of the Association since first formed in the early
1980's. There has not been a comprehensive review of Sections and the ways in which the
prominence of Sections has shaped the Association since then, ... Show more content on

This increases the total cost of APSA membership commensurately, especially consequential if a
member seeks to join multiple sections. We worry this may discourage multiple section
membership, diminish opportunity for "cross–fertilization" among fields; and create sticker shock
for APSA membership in general.
At the same time, there may be potential value for the Association of being aligned with a "bundle"
of journal content organized across topical areas – a kind of journal–based analogue to the annual
meeting division structure.
As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy Organized Section
purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by lending the Section money with
payback revenues over 10 years. Assuming the business deal made sense, would such a step make
sense from the standpoint of an Association–wide journals policy.
APSA might seek to bring Section journals more under the Association umbrella itself and applying
journal guidelines, unbundling subscriptions from Section membership (while leaving editorial
control with the Sections.)
C. Governance and Liabilities
APSA's Organized Sections operate under the Association's Tax ID number, and legally are elements
of APSA as a corporation. A few APSA sections engage in outside activities such as separate
conferences. Generally, these are handled entirely by section members

Compare The Relationship Between William Wordsworth And I...
From my reading of both the 'Grasmere Journals' written by Dorothy Wordsworth and also the poem
'I wandered lonely as a cloud' written by William Wordsworth, I believe that there is a strong
relationship between the two. I think that both William and his sister Dorothy experienced the same
relationship with the Daffodil's they saw. The only difference is that William expressed his
experience through poetry while Dorothy expressed hers through diary entries. From the evidence
we have with the dates of when both were written, I believe William wrote his poem based on
Dorothy's journals. I would be of the opinion that Dorothy's journals were written from her
experience alone while Williams's poem was written under the influence of Dorothy's 'Grasmere ...

Much of Dorothy's diary entries include reflective moments in her life. As Sara Crangle said
''[T]here is much of this solitary, reflective image that can be transposed to the larger depiction of
Wordsworth's life.'' Dorothy's journals are mostly written either at the beginning of the day or in the
evening. This time of day is when she is either reflecting on the day gone by or thinking about the
day ahead. As she is often out walking with William or Coleridge it is probable that she is reflecting
on these events quite a lot. On May 14th she writes ''I sate a long time upon a stone at the margin of
the lake, and after a flood of tears my heart was easier.'' Dorothy explains how after she reflects she
becomes happier. Reflection is a sense of relief for her. This sense of relief shows how significant
writing diary entries are for her. They are her escape where she can be alone with her

British Medical Journal Comparison Essay
Journal Comparison between British Medical Journal and Wiley Interdisciplinary reviews I decided
on two topics about Lupus. I chose to select this topic because my sister was diagnosed Lupus 8
years ago. It has been a constant battle for her. There are periods where she seems like a healthy girl,
I even forget that she has lupus until once we go out somewhere like bowling I can see her suffering
whenever she wants to throw the ball. My parents call this sickness a devil's curse. I completely
agreed with them and that is probably the main reason why I have not gone to church in the last 6
years. I grew up believing that God will always find a way for you to be happy, but instead I felt
betrayed by him the moment I learned about my sister

Module 2 DQ1 and DQ2 Essay
Module 2 DQ1 Doctoral learners/researchers must become information–literate individuals that are
able to identify, locate, evaluate, organize, and communicate regarding research sources and
materials. The evaluation component of information literacy includes considering the article's
accuracy, objectivity, currency, authority, and relevance. Why is the skill of evaluation important for
doctoral learners/researchers?
In order to be an academia researcher into a particular field one must be able to gather and identify
materials that are appropriate to what they are researching and what they are trying to prove or to
disprove. It is imperative for the doctoral learner to be able to locate the needed information and be

You stated in your posting, " Brandgruwel, Wopereis, and Vermetten (2005) states: not all resources
are created equal, and learners must be judicious in their approach to evaluating research.
Information literacy requires a learner to identify, understand, and evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of each source before they can use it." This statement is absolutely true, because a
student of higher education must be able to read through articles and papers and be able to see the
strength and weakness of a particular paper and be able to analyze the information to see how this
either applies to what they are looking for or be able to identify if it does not. Scholarly research and

In this case, Ron Birch, product manager for the new pasteurized king crab of Phillips Foods, needs
to make a decision for the phase II of launch of king crab. He planned to continue the magazine
strategy used in phase I, but Cherry Stockworth, vice–president of marketing of Phillips Foods,
recommended him to use the budget to support half of cost of International Boston Seafood Show.
According to the information given in this case, I don't think this is an either–or choice, and my
recommendation for Ron Birch is to decrease the cost of ads in trade magazines, change the content

Opportunity: U.S. seafood market grew rapidly in recent years, and the biggest part of seafood sales
is fresh seafood, which is 54% of all seafood retail sales. The king crab of Phillips belongs to fresh
seafood, which means it has huge market potential. Customers tend to buy food that is easy–cooked
and fresh, which is a feature of the king crab product. The IBSS is a nation–wide trade show which
could attract a lot of exhibitors and attendance. Making use of this platform could help Phillips to
build its reputation and promote its products at the same time. Threat: Just because the IBSS could
attract a large amount of exhibitors, the competition during the trade show is fierce. Though there
are so many potential customers would appear at the trade show, how could Phillips beat the
competitors and attracts enough customers to its booth. Another threat for king crab is the possible
rejection of the retailers because they would feel risky to replace an old product with a new product.
Pros and Cons of Alternative Strategies
Trade advertising strategy
Pros: Trade magazine is one of the most important sources for decision–makers and they will spend
relatively long time in reading magazines. This strategy would cost less than trade show strategy and
would reach broader potential customers. Cons: Effectiveness for brand building and lead generation
of ads on magazines are 50.2% and 47.4%, lower than effectiveness of trade show, which are 60.9%

Writing And Writing Of Writing
Everyone says that writing of Communication has become a cliché. It is a cliché, however that is
true. Personally, I do not like writing, but over time it has become a big part of me that I appreciate.
Writing for me started in elementary school. I started with writing my ABCs and my name to
perfection, until I did not make any mistakes. Over my years of writing I have enhanced my
expressiveness, originality, and creativity. Growing up, I loved writing poems. My love for poems
developed from listening and loving nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had
A Little Lamb, Ring around the Rosie, and many others. When I was five years old, I wrote and
presented a poem of mine in my church auditorium with members present. I had anger problems
growing up, and my psychologist taught me to let out my anger in different forms of writing. One
thing I have realized is that I write good personal papers whenever I am either upset at someone or a
situation. I have minimal experiences in writing academic papers. I use the writing process I was
taught in high school which was: Invention, Draft and Revision, then Proof Reading and Editing. I
also know how to incorporate words into sentences, and utilize sentences to form paragraphs. What
are my assumptions about writing? Concerning a personal writing, nothing. Good, bad, awful,
mediocre; writing is about self–expression. If it makes sense to the author, then nothing else matters.
I mean, it is a personal writing; the

Saunders Medical Center OR: Preceptor Day Nine This is my ninth clinical shift with my preceptor

the chance to work back in the OR. I had the choice to stay after my shift to place an IV in a

care, a little bit of postoperative care, and helping clean up the OR after surgery. The patient census
included: K. S. a 51–year–old female scheduled for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy with
intraoperative cholangiogram; and T. M. a 30–year–old male scheduled for excision sebaceous cysts

which I don't have the information for this patient because I was only going in to place the IV. It was

Reflection Of Journal Writing : Personal Aspects Of...
Reading your own writing can be excruciatingly boring. Your mind already knows what's on the
paper because it made the words form the piece you are looking at. I always try to make the
experience an adventure. Thinking of the rereading as a deep dive. Deep diving sounds exciting,
almost pirate–like. You get to look for treasure. Or in this case writing devices that keep popping up
in your writing. My deep dive produced a few things I hadn't noticed while writing my journals. I
found that in my journals I tend to follow the troupe of chronologically filing the events, that I'm
secretive and very emotional. As I dived into researching myself, I found that in my technique for
journal writing I'm very straight forward. I wrote down what happened each day in chronological
order. For example in Artifact 1, I go through a bad day, "Waking up late on days of my morning
class is absolutely the worst." On to "When class ended I hurried out to my car to get food before
work. Lo and behold, I had a parking ticket because I hadn't picked up my parking pass yet." Lastly,
"I get on my comfiest pajamas, sit down and start homework, but the internet isn't working." After
reading over this artifact I came to the conclusion, I do this because when I go back to reflect, it
makes the most sense to go in order. When you read my journals, you get a perception of what my
days are like and how I feel about them. They make sense because I go in order, which in a sense is
logos. The logical

Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay
Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms
Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to
become involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a beneficial
tool for student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are many types
of journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different types of
journals that exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide what the
most effective journal for this classroom would be.
First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an
alternate way of expression. It promotes individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain
manner in order to receive a good grade.
Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the freedom in
which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist's notebook. Journal
entries are "normally" done by using words, however there is a move to allow students to use
photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to express
themselves. According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of journal writing
is for students to use journals to 1) record personal experiences, 2) explore reactions and
interpretations, and 3) record and analyze information. These criteria or aspects can be applied to
any and all disciplines. I think that the most important place to include journal wrtiting is in the
English classroom. This is where writing begins to take shape. Since it such a vital aspect of
everyday life, students should feel comfortable expressing themselves and should have the means to
do so. Journals allow students the opportunity to visual express themselves and to see their ideas on

Medical Journal Article: Addictions as Real Physical Disease
Charlie Van Houten HIS 240 Spring 2012 The definition of what constitutes a real "disease" is not
as clear cut as one might think. One major area of concern has been the debate between those that
believe that the conceptualization of a disease should be free from social influences/values versus
those that state that the criteria use to define a disease, especially psychiatric disease like addiction,
are a result of social definitions/values (e.g., Szasz, 2008). In general, most health professionals
agree that the determination of what is or is not labeled as a disease should be free of value
judgments and social influences and should rest on notions of intact biological functions in
organisms and statistical departures of these functions from normalcy. Unfortunately, even these
statistical foundations of normalcy are often based on social values (as is certainly the case in
addictions) and departures from normalcy can either be dysfunctional (e.g., someone who is born
with mental retardation) or relatively benign (e.g., someone who has extremely high intelligence).
Many ask where should the line to demarcate disease from normalcy be drawn, at one or both ends
of the spectrum of what is normal? Many contemporary definitions of the term "disease" still
describe a disease as consisting of some form of cellular abnormality or derangement. Szasz (2008)
suggested that in order to qualify as a disease any such deviation in cellular arrangement should
consist of three

Content & Coverage The audience for the magazine Education is more of scholarly audience rather
than a consumer audience. The proposed information is written secondary in nature because the
author is discussing a study on Hispanic parents' perception of education. The article does provide
in–depth information on the specific statistics and findings of the study. The article did have links to
other articles within the magazine based on key words such as education, community, academic
achievement, and family. Although there was no bibliography, there was an extensive list of
references mentioned in the article. There was a total of 26 references recognized in the article
(Hwang & Vrongistinos, 2010).
Timeliness
The magazine article was written in the summer of 2010. It did not specify a month and date. No
further updates appear to have been posted but the article was uploaded to the General OneFile
website on October 3, 2015. The citations appear to be outdated because some of the data used is
over ten years old. Even though the article is five years old, I would state that the information is
outdated. The limitation of the material is crucial since the article is focused on a survey which
needs to be current for this particular topic (Hwang & Vrongistinos, 2010).
Accuracy
The magazine article is linked to a commercial website with a .biz domain. It is not a community

The Privilege Of Attending The Bush House Museum
I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday
November 20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I've always
been quite intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the
culture. The Bush House belonged to Asahel Bush II (1824–1913) became editor and publisher of
The Oregon Statesman newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house
with Eugenia Zieber Bush (1833–1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856– 1942), Asahel (1858–
1953), Sally (1860–1946) and Eugenia (1862–1932). Later in 1863, Bush's wife died at age 39 with
Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their
own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my
good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally
arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell.
She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her
we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she
took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour, she said we did not even need to come back and
prove to her that we bought tickets, she said we simply needed to pay the admission price at the
nearby art gallery. When we went to go

The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients
The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy
studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti–acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose
of the study was to assess the "safety of non–inflammatory drugs " to treat cardiovascular disease
(BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study 's 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular
disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening
cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians
lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy–seven
who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack. Various ages, races, and
sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users.
Long–term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead
to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to consult a GI doctor before
consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen–enriched blood, which may result in heart
failure. Readers will draw focus on the alarm and potential health scares through medical evidence.
As I compared the British Medical Journal and the guardian, all relative information must be relayed
throughout the document. All research shown in the BMJ was fully factual evidence based upon the

Rhetorical Techniques
Rhetorical techniques can make or break a paper. The proper use of rhetorical 'tools' such as
metaphors or the overall structure of the paper allows for the writer to channel the reader's attention
to the argument(s) they're trying to make/prove. However, when used improperly, the reader
interprets the writer to be a non–credible source because the rhetorical techniques he/she is uses are
either too obvious or they do not create an easy and focused experience for the reader. Some of the
most significant rhetorical techniques are overall structure of the paper, the use of data and statistic
in the paper, and the appeal to credibility. In the papers, 'Why companies fail to respond to climate
change', by Tobias Finke, and 'How to Unleash Climate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same content, portrayed in a different order, can lead to a different interpretation of the
argument by the reader. In "How to Unleash Climate Action" by Frances Beinecke, the structure of
the paper walks the reader through the following steps: the problem, research studies, potential
solutions, how to carry out those solutions, and a conclusion. Beinecke starts by identifying and
putting down the 'opponent, "including the loud and powerful opposition from the fossil fuel
industry; climate deniers on the conservative soapbox; intransigence from some people and
complacency from others" (Beinecke, 713). Then, she introduces her proposal to fighting both
climate change and these opponents by saying, "...is the single most important thing our country can
do to ght climate change right now" (Beinecke, 716). At this point, the reader should have a
thorough understanding of the issue(s) and the solution to these issues. At this point, by introducing
the solution to the problem early on in the paper, Beinecke can use cited research and other
argumentative strategies to convince the reader that her solution and method of implementation is
ideal. In the paper's topic headed, "Lessons From Research", Beinecke simplifies what is stated in
the review of her cited research into several different points, which are then explained further. This
topic is then followed by action/application argument, which argues the best way to motivate people
to participate in climate change action. By following the research data/results with a qualitative
argument, Beinecke is able to link the two together and to carry over the reader's approval of the
data/facts to the actual argument. The paper has an overall conversational tone and structure on the
sentence level, and a story–like flow to it on a full scale level. The organization and

In many of the journal articles used the dependent variable was the outcome of an intervention being
tested or affirmed for efficacy. The independent variable used was the intervention being tested. This
was common in the primary analyses referenced in this paper. Confounding variables were vastly
differing, but usually fell within a couple of generalizable groups. Some confounding variables were
population based being that the size was too small, too healthy, the population geographical
background was not diverse enough for accurate results, and the level of knowledge of the test
population was not representative of the public. One big confounding variable that I did see was that
in some of these studies the variables were too controlled, the randomization was not double blinded
leading to research influenced bias, and the results lacked generalizability. However, for some of
these areas studied in this presentation, the research was primary research and there was not a vast
amount of previously done studies to contribute to a cohort type of study.
For many of the articles, two tests were run for statistical analysis. A vast majority were using the
ANOVA test, however some were using Chi square tests to analyze the difference between two
categorical variables. The ANOVA test was done to analyze the means between different groups
being tested. This test determined whether the means between groups are statistically significant

Importance Of Writing Reflection

  • 1. Importance Of Writing Reflection When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal. As the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality did not match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of this course by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective. As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn about different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of journals, but it was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research paper, it just did not seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how to use Chicago Style referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it nor to working on the essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our understanding. I think that this essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been spending time in class learning about various historical journalists and how their work impacted the region in which it was created. It just did not seem as though our homework matched our class work, so I was a little thrown off. This imbalance was especially apparent because the room was deemed technology free, so we could not even work on our essays while in class. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Identifying Their Usefulness Towards Students Studying... Sustainability as stated in the oxford dictionary is defined as the ability of something to be maintained at a certain rate or level. For Geographers this term is often widely used within the discipline. It can be used to refer to sustainable development or to describe aspects within nature such as sustainable environments. In this literature review, we will be looking at three different types of resources that discuss sustainability. Before evaluating their usefulness towards students studying geography. We will begin by looking at the most traditional form of resource used by students, a book by Cabezas et al, that discusses a multi–disciplinary view of sustainability, then more on towards more modern resources such as academic journals ... Very early on the book the importance of sustainability is stressed, linking it both the human and physical geographical viewpoints in its analysis. Stating that the overconsumption, coupled with the dramatic increase in our population, taxing the earth in what they argue in a way our species has not done so before (Cabezas et al. 2012). Before delving into the history of sustainability, and its various related disciplines. The book then proceeds to discuss the subject from a biological point of view, before discussing the other disciplines views relating to the subject. The second key resource, the academic journal as discovered on search engine Primo that is hosted by the University. With a link directing towards some of the journals articles located on the Journals homepage. This journal written by Ravera et al in 2013, looks at rural change and farms vulnerability within the semi–arid areas located within north Nicaragua. With the authors focusing mainly at the beginning of the article towards the ever increasing rural development within the North Nicaragua. Stating that the majority of Nicaragua poor live in these semi–arid areas, where access to natural resources is limited (Ravera et al 2013). Coupled along with the over–farming and high population living within the area, the area suffers the undernourishment. Leading to low levels of sustainability, considering ... Postgraduate Medical Journal With healthcare being such a rapidly developing field, it is essential that we, as aspiring medical professionals, understand what is progressing in our profession. Within the blink of an eye health care changes; doctors, professors, researchers, are all developing new theories, journals and studies daily. It is our responsibility as current students in this field to do our best to further understand these journals, studies, researches and the writing that is involved in our field. Why you may ask? There is arguably an infinite amount of perspectives in the medical field ranging from a vast amount of topics–– understanding how to read and write professional writing based on medicine is imperative for our future careers and their advancement ... This journal was written by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The journal was written on September 15, 2015. The publication is Pediatrics Volume 136, number 6. The AAP has recently come to the realization that more and more families are refusing to vaccinate their infants and young children. Because of all the recent refusals pediatricians and family physicians have started to dismiss families. • 5. Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death In Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Masque of the Red Death," he is trying to convey that people can't ignore death, even if they try to distract themselves from it because death doesn't come at a specific time. Prince Prospero tries to distract people from the Red Death by throwing a party, thinking he can keep everyone safe from the Red Death because they're not thinking about it. Poe uses the setting of the short story, the castle, to portray where everyone is hiding from the Red Death, it's a beautiful place that is supposed to be protected. Then he uses the Prince to symbolize distraction, as he attempts to keep everyone's mind of what was coming to them. He says, "The Prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. There were buffoons, there were improvisatori, there were ballet–dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was wine. All these and security were within. Without was the "Red Death""(Poe. Pg 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author uses the clock's symbolism to set the idea that time is running out and that death is near. The seven rooms were there to show how far everyone was in in their lives. No matter which room somebody was in, the clocks chime could kill anybody at any given time. In the text it says, "And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood–bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in a despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the gay"(Poe. page 4). At any given time death comes. It doesn't always meet someone at their last stage of life. When the clock chimes one by one, the people follow the Prince into the doorway of death. The author uses the Prince's death and everyone following to convey that not even those who distract themselves can escape death, or their fears. Prince Prospero's death caused the distractions to end, which caused everyone to face death one by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Help Analysis In "The Help", a film directed by Tate Taylor, an aspiring journalist and novelist named Skeeter is bothered by the treatment black maids receive from their white employers. In order to open other's eyes to said treatment, Skeeter decides to interview numerous black women and turn their troublesome stories and unfair pasts into a published novel. One particular black woman, whom is named Aibileen, shares with Skeeter her journal that contains both prayers and in–depth, heart– wrenching stories of her life as a maid. Though I do not have any heart wrenching stories like Aibileen does, nor do I plan to publish an eye–opening book like Skeeter did, I do have a situation on my hands that bothers me. This particular situation slightly reminded me of "The Help" in the sense that I also have a journal I have been keeping about the issue at hand which is bothering me. Therefore, I found it fitting to follow the example Aibileen and Skeeter set by doing something about their bothersome situation by attempting to do something about my own situation. I have been a legal assistant at a law firm not far from my home since the time I was sixteen years old. When I began working there, I had no previous work experience apart from babysitting, I was not very outspoken, and I had zero legal knowledge. However, a partner attorney recognized that I had a burning desire within me to learn and to become a talented, successful, respectable attorney once I had graduated from high school. Therefore, ... • 7. The British Medical Journal Separates A Genius 's Creative... For the sake of this report, mental stability can be defined as the psychological condition of an individual, based on exterior influence and inner conflict. Mental instability can include social insecurity, lack of self–esteem, affective disorders, and other forms of mental illness. There is no consistent link between creativity and mental instability, but there are inexplicably diverse relationships between creativity and mental instability. Creative genius is the ability to think unlike the general population in order to solve a problem or to come up with an imaginative innovation. Geniuses tend to have a range of areas of expertise rather than one subject that they focus on so that they can use multiple angles to approach their work. The British Medical Journal separates a genius's creative process into three stages: acquiring information, subconsciously contemplating this information over a long period of time, and finally reaching a "eureka moment," at which point they synthesize the information into a coherent product. Creative geniuses lead a crucial role in society because they promote infrastructural and cultural development. Thus, it is necessary to maintain the mental health of creative geniuses in order for them to have a high quality of life and for society as a whole to continue to develop. Scientifically, there is a genetic link between creative genius and mental instability, excluding complete insanity. According to Dean Keith Simonton, a well–known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Journaling Is A Common Practice "An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across the fingertips" (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn 't confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful. Journaling does not necessarily have a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us" (ESV, Ps. 62.6–8). The Psalms were like David's personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and times of significant triumph in his life. Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, "The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith" (qtd. in Whitney 253–254). All of these people kept a journal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Nonsense for APA Formatting This paper isn't going to make any sense at all; it's written just to practice APA formatting for various references and to practice various in–text citations. I can tell that this paper is going to be boring to write; therefore, it is probably going to be boring to read. Even so, it's still good practice for future reference. The first type of references I'm using in this paper is two academic journals. I'm going online to find two random academic journals to do so. This journal article aimed to accomplish two objectives, the first being to establish if patients are satisfied with the electronic medical record system and if so to what degree (Liu, Luo, Zhang & Huang, 2013, 785). Before this article there was not much supportive documentation on the patient response to the implementation of EMR/EHR systems. The article concluded that patients are satisfied with the use of EMR/EHR but there are flaws within this study. The article acknowledges that the measurements obtained for patient satisfaction have potential flaws. Additionally, two survey studies conducted obtained extremely low response rates at 33% and 46% (Liu, Luo, Zhang & Huang, 2013, 788). The low response rate is indicative of a selection biases which if this is true, questions the validity of the article's conclusion. Since the survey was optional to complete, it is possible that only patients who were informed about the system and strong positive feelings associated with it chose to respond (Liu, Luo, Zhang & Huang, 2013, 788). A major outbreak of Lead Poisoning in Northern Nigeria Preliminary Issues A major outbreak of Lead Poisoning in Northern Nigeria, more specifically in the area of the Zamfara State, is described by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) as the "biggest epidemic of Lead Poisoning in modern history." The height of the outbreak caused children mortality rates to sky rocket. This situation is still a current crisis today – for those who still suffer from lead poisoning, and for the survivors who are now struggling with the dire disabilities. According to news report released by NPR Health, the original crisis was caused due to locals processing of ore for gold. The area that was being processed for ore was laced with lead; when the ore was grinded to extract the gold, the process generated clouds of "lead–laden" dust, which was carried home by the workers and inhaled by the children (NPR Health News). The result showed an alarming impact on the mortality rate of children who were exposed to lead. According to The African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, approximately 400 children died within the first couple days of the lead infested mining incident, and a total of 40% of children died in the village of Zamfara within the year (The African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences). Medical attention was brought to the area when there was an unusual notice for the experience of deaths, vomiting of blood, and seizures in children. Hans de Bruijn states "Almost everybody has heard of cybersecurity, however, the urgency and behavior of persons do not reflect high level of awareness. The internet is all too often considered as a safe environment for sharing information, transactions and controlling the physical world, yet cyberwars are already ongoing and there is an urgent need to be better prepared." That just shows how in reality we as a society are not looking at the bigger picture. We worry less about how with a push of a button tons of information can be stolen or even erased. As Hans mentioned cyberwars are happening in front of us without us realizing it. That is why as a society with access to a great deal of technology people need to be more aware of cybersecurity. There are many ways that the public can be made aware of it. One of those ways is to show actual evidence to people who tend to prioritize technology, and the online network instead of just giving them a warning. Introduction As a community, academics are increasingly accepting the use of public, online, journal style writings known as weblogs (blogs) as a valid pedagogy for the classroom. The attraction of using blogs within a classroom setting stems mainly from the discursive possibilities that the new technology offers: namely, that blogs allow for a discussion of nearly any topic in a socially moderated medium that encourages participants to compare, expand upon, and modify their understanding of that topic in relation to the ideas of their peers. As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy Organized Section purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by lending the Section money with payback revenues over 10 years. Personally, I do not like writing, but over time it has become a big part of me that I appreciate. Writing for me started in elementary school. I started with writing my ABCs and my name to perfection, until I did not make any mistakes. Over my years of writing I have enhanced my expressiveness, originality, and creativity. Growing up, I loved writing poems. My love for poems developed from listening and loving nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Ring around the Rosie, and many others. When I was five years old, I wrote and presented a poem of mine in my church auditorium with members present. I had anger problems growing up, and my psychologist taught me to let out my anger in different forms of writing. One thing I have realized is that I write good personal papers whenever I am either upset at someone or a situation. I have minimal experiences in writing academic papers. I use the writing process I was taught in high school which was: Invention, Draft and Revision, then Proof Reading and Editing. I also know how to incorporate words into sentences, and utilize sentences to form paragraphs. What are my assumptions about writing? Concerning a personal writing, nothing. Deep diving sounds exciting, almost pirate–like. You get to look for treasure. Or in this case writing devices that keep popping up in your writing. My deep dive produced a few things I hadn't noticed while writing my journals. I found that in my journals I tend to follow the troupe of chronologically filing the events, that I'm secretive and very emotional. As I dived into researching myself, I found that in my technique for journal writing I'm very straight forward. I wrote down what happened each day in chronological order. For example in Artifact 1, I go through a bad day, "Waking up late on days of my morning class is absolutely the worst." On to "When class ended I hurried out to my car to get food before work. Lo and behold, I had a parking ticket because I hadn't picked up my parking pass yet." Lastly, "I get on my comfiest pajamas, sit down and start homework, but the internet isn't working." After reading over this artifact I came to the conclusion, I do this because when I go back to reflect, it makes the most sense to go in order. In general, most health professionals agree that the determination of what is or is not labeled as a disease should be free of value judgments and social influences and should rest on notions of intact biological functions in organisms and statistical departures of these functions from normalcy. Unfortunately, even these statistical foundations of normalcy are often based on social values (as is certainly the case in addictions) and departures from normalcy can either be dysfunctional (e.g., someone who is born with mental retardation) or relatively benign (e.g., someone who has extremely high intelligence). Many ask where should the line to demarcate disease from normalcy be drawn, at one or both ends of the spectrum of what is normal? Many contemporary definitions of the term "disease" still describe a disease as consisting of some form of cellular abnormality or derangement. Szasz (2008) suggested that in order to qualify as a disease any such deviation in cellular arrangement should consist of three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Article On Content And Coverage Magazine Article Content & Coverage The audience for the magazine Education is more of scholarly audience rather than a consumer audience. The proposed information is written secondary in nature because the author is discussing a study on Hispanic parents' perception of education. The article does provide in–depth information on the specific statistics and findings of the study. The article did have links to other articles within the magazine based on key words such as education, community, academic achievement, and family. Although there was no bibliography, there was an extensive list of references mentioned in the article. There was a total of 26 references recognized in the article (Hwang & Vrongistinos, 2010). Timeliness The magazine article was written in the summer of 2010. It did not specify a month and date. No further updates appear to have been posted but the article was uploaded to the General OneFile website on October 3, 2015. The citations appear to be outdated because some of the data used is over ten years old. Even though the article is five years old, I would state that the information is outdated. The limitation of the material is crucial since the article is focused on a survey which needs to be current for this particular topic (Hwang & Vrongistinos, 2010). Accuracy The magazine article is linked to a commercial website with a .biz domain. It is not a community site where any individual can make changes (Hwang & Vrongistinos, 2010). An individual is ... • 35. The Privilege Of Attending The Bush House Museum I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday November 20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I've always been quite intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the culture. The Bush House belonged to Asahel Bush II (1824–1913) became editor and publisher of The Oregon Statesman newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house with Eugenia Zieber Bush (1833–1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856– 1942), Asahel (1858– 1953), Sally (1860–1946) and Eugenia (1862–1932). Later in 1863, Bush's wife died at age 39 with Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell. She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour, she said we did not even need to come back and prove to her that we bought tickets, she said we simply needed to pay the admission price at the nearby art gallery. • 36. The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti–acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose of the study was to assess the "safety of non–inflammatory drugs " to treat cardiovascular disease (BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study 's 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy–seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack. Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users. Long–term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen–enriched blood, which may result in heart failure. Readers will draw focus on the alarm and potential health scares through medical evidence. As I compared the British Medical Journal and the guardian, all relative information must be relayed throughout the document. All research shown in the BMJ was fully factual evidence based upon the experiment. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Rhetorical Techniques Rhetorical techniques can make or break a paper. The proper use of rhetorical 'tools' such as metaphors or the overall structure of the paper allows for the writer to channel the reader's attention to the argument(s) they're trying to make/prove. However, when used improperly, the reader interprets the writer to be a non–credible source because the rhetorical techniques he/she is uses are either too obvious or they do not create an easy and focused experience for the reader. Some of the most significant rhetorical techniques are overall structure of the paper, the use of data and statistic in the paper, and the appeal to credibility. In the papers, 'Why companies fail to respond to climate change', by Tobias Finke, and 'How to Unleash Climate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same content, portrayed in a different order, can lead to a different interpretation of the argument by the reader. In "How to Unleash Climate Action" by Frances Beinecke, the structure of the paper walks the reader through the following steps: the problem, research studies, potential solutions, how to carry out those solutions, and a conclusion. Beinecke starts by identifying and putting down the 'opponent, "including the loud and powerful opposition from the fossil fuel industry; climate deniers on the conservative soapbox; intransigence from some people and complacency from others" (Beinecke, 713). Then, she introduces her proposal to fighting both climate change and these opponents by saying, "...is the single most important thing our country can do to ght climate change right now" (Beinecke, 716). At this point, the reader should have a thorough understanding of the issue(s) and the solution to these issues. At this point, by introducing the solution to the problem early on in the paper, Beinecke can use cited research and other argumentative strategies to convince the reader that her solution and method of implementation is ideal. In the paper's topic headed, "Lessons From Research", Beinecke simplifies what is stated in the review of her cited research into several different points, which are then explained further. This topic is then followed by action/application argument, which argues the best way to motivate people to participate in climate change action. By following the research data/results with a qualitative argument, Beinecke is able to link the two together and to carry over the reader's approval of the data/facts to the actual argument. The paper has an overall conversational tone and structure on the sentence level, and a story–like flow to it on a full scale level. The organization and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many of the journal articles used the dependent variable was the outcome of an intervention being tested or affirmed for efficacy. The independent variable used was the intervention being tested. This was common in the primary analyses referenced in this paper. Confounding variables were vastly differing, but usually fell within a couple of generalizable groups. Some confounding variables were population based being that the size was too small, too healthy, the population geographical background was not diverse enough for accurate results, and the level of knowledge of the test population was not representative of the public. One big confounding variable that I did see was that in some of these studies the variables were too controlled, the randomization was not double blinded leading to research influenced bias, and the results lacked generalizability. However, for some of these areas studied in this presentation, the research was primary research and there was not a vast amount of previously done studies to contribute to a cohort type of study. For many of the articles, two tests were run for statistical analysis. A vast majority were using the ANOVA test, however some were using Chi square tests to analyze the difference between two categorical variables. The ANOVA test was done to analyze the means between different groups being tested. This test determined whether the means between groups are statistically significant from each other ...
