1. TOPIC: Putting the mind to work
STUDENT: Carlos Andrés Caguazango Montenegro
A. DESCRIPTION OF THE CLASS
Level: Upper-intermediate
Ss between 20 -26 years old either women or men. The class takes place on Mondays from 3 PM to
5PM and Wednesdays from 4PM to 6PM. Students participate in an active way so that interaction is
frequently seen.
B. RECENT WORK
Ss have reported orally some articles related to daily life situations and have also socialized those
issues within the group
C. OBJECTIVES
1. To use Relative Clauses (Reduced – Non defining)
2. To learn new vocabulary related to the unit (Putting the mind to work)
D. CONTENTS
Objective 1: (Estimated time: 20 minutes)
A. Context: Students’ real life
B. Activity: T explains the topic by giving some examples on the slides which stress the
Relative clauses. T provides Ss some strips of paper that contain exercises related to the
previous explanations. T asks Ss to create some sentences with the Relative clauses.
C. Aids: slides, strips of paper.
D. Language: Relative clauses.
E. Possible problems: Ss might confuse the dropping of relative clauses in some sentences
Objective 2: (Estimated time:40 minutes)
A. Context: Students’ real life
B. Activity: After watching a video related to the unit (Putting the mind to work) T asks Ss
about what kind of qualities are needed for being creative. Ss give their point of view about
it. Then, T provides a list of vocabulary related to the topic with some professions found in
the paper, Ss will make sentences by using Relative clauses. Ss will be asked to make
groups of three people with the purpose of creating a special device they consider would be
2. useful for mankind, every group must present the device to their peers by explaining and
socializing what exactly is the object for.
C. Aids: Online video, photocopies, board, markers.
D. Language: Relative clauses, qualities to be creative.
E. Possible Problems: Ss might need some help with some vocabulary included in the unit.
