Propaganda In 1984
Propaganda has been used throughout history to promote and publicize a certain political cause or
point of view. Propaganda gained its use by the German Nazi Party in the years leading up to and
during Adolf Hitler's leadership of Germany. It was a crucial instrument for acquiring and
maintaining his corruption of power. The pervasive use of propaganda by the Nazis is largely
responsible for the word "propaganda" itself acquiring its present negative reputation. In Nazi
Germany posters of Jewish people with exaggerated features would be hung on buildings to make
them appear like rats. These posters created an image in people's minds that the Jewish people were
not in fact humans and would lead to their oppression. The use of propaganda ... Show more content

War is peace can be interpreted as the country is fighting and people within the country are on the
same side, which furthers the party's uncontested power. Nobody questions their government while
a war. By keeping the masses believing that a constant war is being waged, the government will
have a way of controlling the population. War elicits great patriotism and devotion to one's country;
it also promotes sacrifice and giving to the community over oneself. So, if there is constant war, the
people are constantly blindly pledging devotion to their government. This keeps the people from
seeing the large picture and keeps the government in control, and therefore, peaceful. Ignorance is
strength can be explained as, if people remain ignorant, they will not question the Party hence
making the country "stronger." When the government has no on questioning or looking at them they
are free to do what they want. Big Brother implements this by creating Newpeak, which eradicates
most words from existence. Words such as rebellion were taken out in hopes that people would
forget what it means and stop practicing it. Freedom is slavery can be described as, if people are free
to do things and express ideas contrary to the Party's doctrine, everybody is made weak and
powerless under the government. They are slaves to their own ideas and not strong under

What Is Propaganda In Ww1
Propaganda was a predominant and effective weapon of warfare during WW1 (1914–1918) and to a
very large extent; it influenced the involvement of civilians in several movements of the war. There
were several elements, both stylistic and technical, incorporated within the propaganda, which
created conceptions of nationalism and anti–national sentiment and involved different demographics
such as North Americans and women. All these factors contributed to the enormity of war and
increased the extent of people who participated in the war, whether it was in the trenches at front
lines or in their towns at the home front.
Nationalism was one of the driving factors of the war and the main objective the propaganda of
WW1 intended to portray through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Images of women were often exploited in wartime propaganda, as they were romanticized and
significant female figures. An example is England's image of Britannia, a Romanesque warrior, who
encouraged men to fight for their country and protect their women and children (Welch D,
Propaganda for Patriotism and Nationalism, 2014). This information substantiates with Jo Fox in
her article, Women in World War One Propaganda (2014), as she says "Women served as the
embodiment of the nation: Mère–Patrie, Marianne, 'the spirit of Australia', Mother Russia, 'Liberty',
and Britannia all took the female form, appearing as both demure and combative." German and
French propaganda on postcards romanticized war and women, depicting soldiers thinking of their
loved ones while at war and helped them envisage heroic returns (McCallum, 1996, pg.141).
Women were used as a tool of propaganda in WW1, their involvement due to propaganda issued
was a preponderant factor since women had partial support of the war. More than 175 000 women
were involved in the industrial activity of the war because of campaigns such as the "Register of
Women for War Service" as claimed by McAndrew M, Thomas D and Cummins P (1997, pg.224–
225), authors of The Great War; 1914–1918; Problems, Issues, Sources, Skills. Moreover,

Examples Of Propaganda In 1984
Propaganda is a word for the distribution of information that reflects the views and interests of those
advocating such information. In other words, if the government is the source of the information, it is
probably pro–government. Propaganda manipulates you by directing the aggression that would
normally be directed at them, to another entity or group, such as Hitler blaming the Jews for
Germany's poor economy. It can also work to destroy the very logic that could be used to resist it,
such as claiming that two plus two is five. Propaganda also tries to silence or discourage any of
those who oppose it. There are ways to resist propaganda, such as researching what is being told to
you, in an attempt to find the truth about what is being said, ... Show more content on

The "party" has every citizen in Oceania shout at a telescreen with Goldstein's face on it for 2
minutes every day. The Ingsoc Party encourages belief in Goldstein and his resistance, so that they
can blame acts of sabotage and any disloyalty among party members on him. An example of this
sort of blame–shifting today, is the notion that school shootings are caused by video game violence.
Kentucky governor Matt Bevin has been quoted saying, "guns are not the problem." Devin follows
up by saying that video games "have desensitized people to the value of human life." These
government officials are attempting to divert frustration from their perceived lack of legislative
progress to video game companies. The way for you to resist this form of propaganda is to stay
informed instead of listening to what others say and immediately believing it. If you looked up
studies relating to video game violence and actual violence, you would realize that there is no
connection between the two. We have all heard that there is a connection between the two, but not
many of us have actually researched it for

Propaganda Propaganda Analysis
Soon after the tragic and devastating attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1942 by the Japanese
Empire, America was quick to retaliate and went in with full force on the offense against our
aggressors. About 50 million men were drafted into the armed forces, forcing them to leave their
homes and family behind. This especially caused adverse effects to the job market. Jobs and tasks
still needed to be continued while the war was in effect, so women, kids, and those people unable to
qualify for military service had to step in. In order to achieve this goal, propaganda was utilized to
target specific groups by distorting the mind into believing it's a duty that must be accomplished.
More specifically, we will analyze a specific propaganda poster created and published by the RCA
Manufacturing Company in the year 1942. The propaganda poster displays the following context in
bold and conspicuous lettering, " United we stand, Divided we fall: Beat The Promise."
Furthermore, we are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

applying the big six principles of general semantics mentioned also in Flemings article. Non–
Identity is utilized with the use of the words "United" and "Divided", by increasing the motivation
to work as a team. Even though the phrase does not represent the real underlying meaning of the
poster, which is to surpass the original established quota. Non–allness begins to become more
noticeable as years pass, factory workers felt it was their duty to work hard and increase production,
no questions were asked. Conclusively, the blue collar workers subconsciously accepted to work

Propaganda In The Vietnam War
Propaganda advertises a political issue through the means of humor, speech, and cartoons, or any
other sources found necessary. Bandwagon or peer pressure is often shown in propaganda.
Propaganda is mainly used for politics but can be used for other topics. "By 1918, and the end of of
hostilities in the European theater, more than a hundred Americans had lost their lives." This song
talks about the soldiers who fought in the war that passed in 1918" (Miller). This is effective
propaganda because of its appeal to emotion (pathos). When we need the lyrics, we could feel the
strong emotion of loss of the American soldiers who fought for us. "Take up our quarrel with the
face: To you from failing we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high. Of

Propaganda In Triumph Of The Will
A simple definition of propaganda could be spreading ideas and information to help or harm a
person but mostly a group and propaganda films has propaganda in it. When I was watching the
movie "Triumph of the Will" I can clearly see a great example of political propaganda. What Hitler
was doing here is spreading his ideas and beliefs to convince the public. The article Paradox of
Propaganda states that "When Luis Bunuel showed his edited version of Triumph of the Will to an
audience consisting of President Roosevelt, Rene Clair and Charles Chaplin they all agreed the film
was too good to be used against itself". (Summary Critique 71) The iconic representation of

Symbols In The Military Propaganda
Propaganda can be seen as any information of a biased or misleading nature that is used to promote
a political point of view. The oversized warning with an exclamation mark in a red box on the
propaganda suddenly captures the reader's mind; as the reader gazes at the propaganda they read,
"our homes are in danger now!" The propagandas goal is to tell the citizens of the United Stated that
there homes are in danger; the symbols used in the propaganda are two army men, one from German
and one from Japan, looking at the North America, on the globe, with warfare in there hands. The
slogan they use is, "our job, keep'em firing," intended for the American workers to keep
manufacturing the warfare supply. This propaganda elicit an emotional response

public opinions that they should devour and accept as truth without the slight sense of questioning.
The power of propaganda can be seen in history by the influence of the great countries and
notorious dictator to command nations not only in their speeches over the radios and televisions that
broadcasted throughout the lands they governed but also strongly can be seen in retrospect to people
of today of the seemly subtle messages in the past, present, and our future in posters,

a message with an endorsement is that one will mimic the chooses and life style of a celebrity or

Propaganda In Advertising
In advertisement, propaganda is all around. It is in newspaper articles, television ads, movies, and a
plethora of other things. Propaganda is a type of advertisement that shows how good or how much
better a product is that anything else in that department. "Advertisers lean heavily on propaganda to
sell products, whether the "products" are a brand of toothpaste, a candidate for office, or a particular
political viewpoint." (The Longman Writer McClintock's Essay Pg. 232). There are seven main
types of propaganda, Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card
Stacking, and Bandwagon. Since its first use, most people when they hear propaganda, think only
about political ads but that is not all that propaganda is used for. "Although propaganda may seem
relevant only in the political arena, the concept can be applied fruitfully to the way products and
ideas are sold in advertising." (The Longman Writer McClintock's Essay Pg. 232) Two very good
examples of using propaganda techniques are a State Farm commercial, and a Farmers
advertisement. The State Farm ad is a beautifully done, two minute long commercial that is meant to
pull on the heart string of the watcher with a technique such as Plain Folks. The farmers
advertisement on the other hand is a think out of the box comical commercial that does not cause
emotions to stir but instead makes up it up with a Testimonial. Both ads are very appealing to the
eyes and don't use attacks on another

During World War II, governments would create propaganda in hopes of inspiring or convincing
citizens in their country to make a contribution to the war effort. Most of the propaganda was related
to the need of the factory workers in the factories and the factories needed as many people as
possible to help make materials necessary for the war. Therefore, the techniques used to persuade
their citizens to join the war movement was through different fonts, pop of colors, and images to
catch the reader's eyes. The government used different fonts in attempt to give a slogan that would
resonate with any citizen that read the propaganda. Even though slogans are useful, different fonts

This enables the audience to look at the colors, then realize the words and comprehend their
meaning. The government intended to make certain words stand out as their citizens read the
propaganda so they could look at the vibrant colored words to convince them to take action. Then,
citizens would consider helping their country during the war and actually go work in the factories to
make necessities for the war. While citizens think the government appreciates their efforts, the
materials given during war are important to win the war. Lastly, when images are used in the
propaganda, it helps the audience understand what the government needs from their citizens to be
part of the war effort. While vibrant colored words emphasize specific words, images present
concepts that can not be told in a few words. These images can inspire citizens through the use of
colors or making certain objects bigger than it really is in real life. Therefore, it would bring
emphasis on who is needed or what is need from the citizens that the government is attempting to

Uncle Sam Propaganda
One can see the use of recurring propaganda in today's time. The first poster of Uncle Sam, named
"I Want You for the U.S Army" rose during 1917 as the original artist, James Montgomery Flagg
created this poster to encourage recruitment in the United States Army at the advent of World War I.
"I Want You for the U.S Army" poster was extremely popular as it had over four million copies of it
printed and displayed throughout the United States. Flagg created the image to symbolize America
and America's demand for young recruits for the war effort. The representation of the colors of the

point revealed the type of features Flagg incorporated to explain ... Show more content on

The context of the propaganda piece is to spark interest in enlisting with the United States army.
However, Flagg creates Uncle Sam in a unique way to not only address the clustered population of
young soldiers but to directly encode the importance of the individual. The poster has the word
"YOU" in bolded and slightly bigger letters. When one looks at the parts of the poster that are
unique, one might look at the word "YOU" and straight towards the index finger pointed at the
individual. This use of linear perspective that Flagg creates is fundamental to the message of the
poster. If one were to draw lines from any part of the poster, it would lead to the index finger,
revealing the important placement of the finger in the middle of the poster. Additionally, the use of
lithographs, or authorized copy of an original work, was ubiquitous in the United States as higher
quality copy images of Uncle Sam were created consistently at a high rate. This recurring image that
was engraved in the minds of Americans exposed to newspapers and media outlets can identify
Flagg's poster as a symbol of wartime and demand for soldiers. Flagg's goal of building this
symbolic poster of Uncle Sam revealed a man with great fairness, reliability, and honesty; this man
was devoted to his country and is now allowing young Americans to carry out his legacy

What Is Propaganda?
Propaganda has long been used by governments and NGOs to spread their biased message to the
impressionable public, without regards to facts or repercussion. For example, this video was created
by a group with a clear bias against marijuana and displays it in such a way as to attempt to scare
people, especially impressionable youths and parents, to prevent them from using or even accepting
others who use marijuana. The film attempts to convey the idea that the drug will alter the users'
mind in such extreme ways as to induce psychosis, wonton sexual desires, extreme violence,
disconnection from reality, and suicidal tendencies. Medical research has disproven most, if not all,
of these as entirely false, with most users experiencing heightened

Throughout the course of humanity's existence, it is seen that change through action is simply
ignited by the power of thought. The ability to think or have a particular opinion, belief, or idea is
the very essence of human nature. Thoughts or human opinions are instigated from the everyday
interaction of beings – one's experiences, or the environment surrounding such. As noted by John
Stuart Mill, "The only way in which a human being can make some approach to knowing the whole
of a subject is by hearing what can be said about it by persons of every variety of opinion and

Such revolved around actions toward peace keeping habits, equality in the nation, and general
promotion of progressive stances. To begin with, within the realm of visual based propaganda
tactics, public enthusiasm in the past has been significantly increased. For example, during 1918
Soviet Russia, artist Dimitri Moor manipulated the antipathetic countenance of the Bolshevik Era
(1917–1921) and the New Economic Policy (1921–1927). Largely empowered by Moor's work,
disposition of the public was influenced to be largely positive as a result of the stark contrast

Propaganda is a type of communication that aims to get a response that satisfies the objective of the
propagandist. Persuasion works both ways regarding the need to satisfy the subject being persuaded
and the persuader. Propaganda is an example of how tactics such as persuasion and communication
are used in the propagandistic form of communication. Because both of these devices are used in
communication, we can categorize propaganda as an extremely relevant form of communication.

In the wide spectrum of politics, there are many manipulative tools that can be used to persuade an
audience. In communist countries, such as Russia, government leaders use propaganda to convince
their citizens to believe their actions are right. Just like in Animal Farm by George Orwell, Squealer
consistently spreads propaganda to the other animals throughout the book. Similarly, Frank Luntz, a
pollster and political consultant, often spreads his opinionated thoughts to the public. Using
propaganda as a tool to influence the masses is not justifiable because it causes the masses to only
hear one sided information and is often misunderstood.

Disguising Nazi Intentions Propaganda and media have always been very important in convincing
the public to agree with their government. Leaders have usually used propaganda and media in
common everyday matters, not just politics. In today's age it is easier to find out if information is
true or not because of all the technology (which also leaves more room for more false reports.)
Today we have Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat; the media list available to the public is almost
infinite. It has not always been like that though; people have not always had smart phones and the

Denying the Holocaust and misrepresentation of facts is a form of antisemitism. Holocaust deniers
ignore the overwhelming obvious evidence of the mass murders that occurred. They say the
Holocaust is a myth, invented by the Allies, the Soviet communists, and the Jews for their own ends.
Some deniers argue that since there was no written documentation of the killings, that the Holocaust
itself was a hoax. They reject all evidence submitted at the Nuremburg Trials(Deniers). The
Nuremburg Trials were held in Nuremburg, Germany to bring Nazi criminals to justice. The
defendants were convicted between 1943 and 1945, in a series of thirteen trials(History). Some
people even go as far to say that the "few" Jews who died were from natural causes or being killed
for committing a real crime. Deniers say the number of between 5.1 and 6 million Jews killed in the
Holocaust were exaggerated. Some say the Nazis didn't use gas chambers to kill Jews. (Deniers)
There is tons and tons of evidence to prove these deniers wrong. One example is on June 25, 1943,
the brand–new gas chamber/crematory 3 opens at Auschwitz. With this new killing facility being
completed, the four current crematories at Auschwitz now had a death rate of 4,756 bodies every

American Propaganda
Propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political
cause or point of view. It can be of a positive or negative nature, but its overall aim is to influence
those viewing it and hopefully persuade them to share the propaganda's creator's point of view.
When America joined the War in 1941, after remaining neutral and determined not to get involved
for two years, a great amount of propaganda was produced and displayed to the American citizens.
This propaganda was produced in many different forms, one of which was using American
companies' advertisements. Although this may seem unnecessary as there were many other media

This shows us that advertisements being used as forms of propaganda were being produced for
essentially the entire duration of America's participation in the War, which tells us that it was an
important form of propaganda. This meant that America felt that propaganda needed to be produced
and spread as soon as possible and advertisements of different companies were one of the first forms
of media to be used do so. And by using adverts, they could use both images and written words to
influence people. Using emotive language would have been very effective in persuading and
influencing others, and an image literally paints a picture for you to imagine. A picture can have an
effect without you putting much effort into observation – just by looking at an image you are taking
it in; you do not need to read. And by already creating an image for you, you immediately see what
they want you to see, and imagine exactly what they want you to imagine, how they want you to
imagine it (for example in source E how you see the evil in the Japanese pilot that they wanted the
American citizens to see and 'know about' and you see the destruction of the American plane and the
pilot, one of their own, falling seemingly lifeless to the ground, which would have immediately hurt
and offended the Americans seeing it). Another

Therefore, propaganda is a really complex term which cannot be defined in absolute terms.
Moreover, Doob, who worked for the Office of War Information in WWII, argued that "a clear–cut
definition of propaganda" is not only impossible, it is also highly undesirable (1948, p. 375). He
believed that posing any types of limitation will harm the understanding of the term. Since
propaganda changes in regard to context and timing in which it occurs, different countries and
different time periods would experience different types of propaganda. Thus, propaganda occurring
in a given timeframe in a given country will not necessarily contain a propaganda message in the
eyes of a neighboring country, for instance. This notion clarifies the previously discussed remark by

idea of viewing propaganda as a negative effort of propagandist alone. He believes that propaganda
is rather a sociological phenomenon which cannot exist without public's willingness to accept the
"truths" presented to it (Ellul, 1965, p. xv). It would be unrealistic to believe that Hitler on his own

The Argument Of Propaganda And Propaganda Techniques
Crowd psychology is the fundamental idea behind the term propaganda. One of the most successful
public relations influencers Edward Bernays wrote in his book "Propaganda". "If we understand the
mechanisms and the motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the
masses according to our will without them knowing it." Many argue that propaganda is unethical
due to the fact that it is a manipulation and control of the group mind. In this paper, I will be
studying what makes propaganda ethical and compare the effective propaganda techniques that have
been used in some of the most recent campaigns. Specifically, focusing on public relations

I believe some companies genuinely have a caring culture and they carry themselves with ethics. It
is not only about the business side of things but actually how they can impact the humanity within
the business. Also, consumers want to make a statement when they purchase a product or item.
Purchasing or not purchasing is often the bigger statement that consumers are usually able to make.
With such a huge communication platform it is very difficult to do the wrong thing and not be
highlighted in the media. So I believe companies are looking more into creating positive and healthy
reinforcements in their brands.
One of the most effective advertisement campaigns of 2016 according to "WARC 100" was one paid
for by Always for women. The main initiative of this campaign was to change the stereotype of the
saying "Like a girl". There is a certain stereotype that is portrayed in media and in Emojis which are
the one the favorite ways of communication within females in present time. The Always campaign
went on to win a UN award for impact on Women 's empowerment and over one million shares on
the internet.
There were a few elements of this campaign that Always was able to capitalize on. One thing they
were precise in reaching their target audience. They needed to impact a new generation of females
that express themselves via the internet and were facing the challenge of negative stereotypes.

Examples Of Propaganda In 1984
Propaganda today is not really used in today's society. However in the book "1984" written by
George Orwell and in Nazi Germany, propaganda was used in every opportunity that was given. The
propaganda used was to serve two simple purposes. One purpose is to brainwash the people into
believing that whatever the government is doing is right and the second purpose is to get the people
to hate a certain group of people or ideology. In "1984" and in Nazi Germany they used propaganda
to the fullest extent. Propaganda can be used in multiple forms: posters, radio broadcasting, t.v.
broadcasting and a bunch of other ways.
In "1984" we learn that propaganda is used very strongly to push big brothers ideology and to make
it seem that the things the are doing in Oceania and around the world is correct. In the beginning of
the book they introduce to us two posters that are hanging on the walls around Oceania. One ...

germany there would posters which would slander the jews and the propaganda minister Joseph
Goebbels would do everything in his power to make sure the german people hated the jews. Both
"1984" and Nazi Germany both used propaganda for both purposes that I had mentioned earlier. All
propaganda used was to achieve the goal of brainwashing the people so that the people would
believe that everything that the government was doing was the right thing. With no questions asked.
Big Brother and Nazi Germany had installed fear in hatred into their own people with their
propaganda tactics. That's why the similarities between the two is

Propaganda Against Propaganda Essay
Title: Propaganda against Propaganda: Deconstructing the Dominant Narrative of the Print Media
during the Biafra War.1967–1970
The news coverage of the war has been of particular relevance to media and communication
researchers. This interest is due to the violence in conflicts, its importance to the people, the vast
amount of finance, men and equipment poured into it. The study of media and war has spurred a
contention on the role of the objectivity during a conflict. For a journalist covering a war, the ideal
should be, according to Howard Tumber in Handbook of Journalism states that 'The accepted norm
for individual reporters, based on their professional values is that they should adopt a neutral role in

Ww1 Propaganda
In times of trouble, governments turn to propaganda to persuade their civilians to stay positive.
After the onset of WWII in Britain, The Ministry of Information was given the task to create a set of
three propaganda pieces that worked to boost morale. Of the series, two displayed "Your Courage,
Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution; Will Bring Us Victory" and "Freedom is in Peril; Defend it
with all Your Might," while the final read "Keep Calm and Carry on." The first two were displayed
around the streets of Britain. The final was only to be released if Germany invaded Britain, and as it
never happened, it ultimately was never viewed by the public. Although never publicly debuted
during the war, the "Keep Calm and Carry on" propaganda piece ... Show more content on

The expression "Keep Calm and Carry on" was designed to reassure the viewer that if they maintain
their composure, that they can be safe once more. The propaganda was only to be released if
Germany invaded Britain by land. When one's native country is invaded, one clearly would feel
unsafe. With outside forces, patrolling your town, and battling in the distance it is clearly within an
individual's right mind to feel insecure, and unsafe. The propaganda's word choice worked to dull
some of the worries of the individuals at risk. The choice to use "Keep Calm and Carry on" is a
command to continue with a calmed attitude and to proceed with their intended plan. The section of
the phrase "Keep Calm" assumes that the individual is already remaining calm, which suggests to
the reader that the crown expects them to be amicable and mellow. The next section "Carry on"
works to remind the general person reading the piece of propaganda that it is possible to move
ahead with their dreams and future plans. The phrase in its entirety works by assuming the viewer is
already calm, and to move on to the next step which is carrying on. It mollifies the fear that should
be instated in its population. This propaganda piece "Keep Calm and Carry on" was designed with
the purpose to help its country's citizens feel safer during a potential

Propaganda Vs Persuasion
If you were to walk down the street and survey people on the difference between propaganda and
persuasion, most people would probably ask themselves, "Is there really a difference between the
two? Aren't they synonymous?" This response wouldn't be unheard of because the two terms are
similar in nature at first glance. Both terms describe a tactic in which people try to manipulate their
audience into choosing their side of an issue. However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that the
definitions of propaganda and persuasion have slight differences that set the two apart from one
another. It is important to note these distinctions because they help decipher more accurately the
kind of information sent, leading to better decision–making. ... Show more content on

However, these two terms differ slightly when it comes to taking into account how people perceive
their intended purposes. Persuasion relies on emotional, moral, and logical appeals to convey a
message, without relying too heavily on any one of these. It likes to strike a nice balance between
the three so that the message seems well rounded and cohesive. Persuasion is also " more concerned
with the mutual benefit of both the persuader and those being persuaded" (Difference, n.d.).
Propaganda relies heavily on emotional appeal alone because propaganda is typically used to
convey a message in a short amount of time, and the quickest and easiest way to get somebody to
remember something is by leaving an emotional impact. Propaganda doesn't take into account the
consequences of its message. This is why it can be said, "the aim of propaganda is only to cater to
the needs of the propagandist" (Difference,

The Influence Of Propaganda Posters
The comic style is an art form in its own right that grew amongst the various movements that
evolved throughout the years, such as classism to the modern art we see throughout the world today.
Through these movements, the level of emotion, professional skills and ideas fluctuate and swaps in
importance as art switches between the real and the unknown. These sometimes may not have an
impact on the art movement as a whole, yet still has enough unique differences to showcase a whole
new style. This is how the comic style was born. The comic style has appeared in various

Vincent is displaying the terror that the Chinese are taking over the nation and leaving Australia

stopping the immigration in Australia. The playful nature of the cartoon makes it more persuasive
due to its subtle themes. This effect could be seen all throughout the world on propaganda posters

military services and help with supplies. The imagery of these posters included enemies being
represented as giant beasts and civilians being harassed for example. Unfortunately the names of a

light, solid colour. This particular imagery shows a cocktail party with civilians and a soldier.

Propaganda is the use of techniques to easily sway or mislead individuals. It is campaigning and
convincing people with what is trying to be advertised. The word propaganda came into use in 1914
during the end of WWl but the use of propaganda actually started a very long time ago, but the term
propaganda wasn't used, there was no name for it. Propaganda is a language of power by spreading
false information, shaping society's opinion, and being able to control people. One of the reasons
propaganda has such power is because of it, in a way, brainwashes people to believe something over
the other. People can easily use propaganda to control people or convince them to believe that they
are correct even if they were talking complete nonsense. Document

Animal Farm Propaganda
Animal Farm: Timeless Propaganda
Upon Animal Farm's first publication in 1945, it quickly became a success and is now regarded as
one of the best allegories of Soviet totalitarianism ever written. All of its characters provided a
representation of Soviet Russia's political figures, with its main character, Napoleon, illustrating
Joseph Stalin and a corrupt totalitarian rule. The book parodies Stalin's rise to power and his
eventual total control of nearly every aspect of personal and private behavior. Animal Farm's
message does not strictly coincide to the events of the 1930's, however. In Animal Farm, three
specific tactics of propaganda arise which are visible today. These propaganda devices are fear,
deceit, and isolationism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after their birth, Napoleon took the young puppies from the farm dogs in order to raise them
personally. He completely isolated them from the rest of the animals in order to mold them into his
own instruments of political oppression. Ahmadinejad does the same through strict isolation via
information control. Any newspapers which post information deemed unfit for the Iranian public are
quickly suspended. The journalists who wrote these articles are often arrested and imprisoned. Iran
also has placed several restrictions on high speed internet in an effort to filter out Western influence.
Iranian connection speeds were reduced to 128KB per second, making it impossible to receive fast
broadband packages. This makes it impossible to receive any western movies, music, or television.
They claim it as an attempt to protect Iranian youth, but quite plainly, it's nothing more than a way
of restricting any outside ideas and further strengthening their own. Animal Farm is a good example
of how timeless certain techniques of propaganda can be. Even after almost 70 years, Animal Farm's
message of propaganda based totalitarianism still carry on. Current Iranian leader Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad closely parallels Stalin's methods of propaganda. Both have methods rooted in three
main devices: fear, deceit, and isolationism. Through these devices, Ahmadinejad is able to mold
Iranian ideas to fit his own. He sways public opinion and shows how

historical propaganda poster was used to invoke the emotions of the mases of people and persuade

Media Propaganda
Media propaganda
Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community
toward some cause or position.
As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense, presents
information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus
possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce
an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a
change of the attitude toward the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda.
Propaganda can be used as a form of political warfare.

The Creel Commission provided themes for speeches by "four–minute men" at public functions, and
also encouraged censorship of the American press. The Commission was so unpopular that after the
war, Congress closed it down without providing funding to organize and archive its papers.
The war propaganda campaign of Lippmann and Bernays produced within six months such an
intense anti–German hysteria as to permanently impress American business (and Adolf Hitler,
among others) with the potential of large–scale propaganda to control public opinion. Bernays
coined the terms "group mind" and "engineering consent", important concepts in practical
propaganda work. The file Century of the Self by Adam Curtis documents the immense influence of
these ideas on public relations and politics throughout the last century.
The current public relations industry is a direct outgrowth of Lippmann's and Bernays' work and is
still used extensively by the United States government. For the first half of the 20th century Bernays
and Lippmann themselves ran a very successful public relations firm. World saw continued use of
propaganda as a weapon of war, both by Hitler's propagandist Joseph Goebbels and the British
Political Warfare Executive, as well as the United States Office of War Information.

War Propaganda
Propaganda is a key aspect to any kind of war. The elements of boosting morale of citizens in a
nation or community in order to gain benefit have been used for many generations of wars and
conflicts. As World War II General Douglas MacArthur stated; "One cannot wage war under present
conditions without the support of public opinion, which is tremendously molded by the press and
other forms of propaganda." This means that, if your country agrees with your reason to go to war,
you will have plenty of support to start defending what you believe in. Because of this, many
strategies in propaganda were used to heavily influence fear into the hearts of the nation, further
boosting morale. Untruthful ideas and images were used to convey such ideas. ... Show more

It becomes evident when Mathew gains more support, as his new "power" involves gaining support
from Sydney's own family. She asked for "forgiveness" for Sydney's "side of the family" which
majorly reflects how strong his support his. The aunt clearly wants nothing to do with Sydney and
treats it as a disowning situation. "Mathew at thirty–three was like a restless young god, where one
boy's death and another man's agony kept him glowing under a false sun." (150) He is referred to
here as a "god" because he is over so much support, it treats him as immortal. Framing Sydney for
"one boy's death" is what he used to get this support. He is kept "glowing" or supported under the
"false sun" which is the fabrication that Sydney actually committed a crime. For this, he continues
to glow under Sydney's "agony", so when Sydney suffers, Mathew gains more power. It is further
indicated that Mathew is well supported when Mathew "Stood tall at the community centre; he rose
above anyone else there, because of the death of a child he used to beat." (150) Mathew Pitt is now
the subject of woe, as he "stood tall at the community centre" indicating the amount of support that
he has behind him. In an ironic fashion, it is implied that Mathew did not care about Trenton,
because he was once a "child he used to beat." The irony behind this is that people are

Examples Of Propaganda In 1984
Propaganda is used as a powerful tool in order to persuade and manipulate the general public into

political figures, and specific ideals. However, propaganda is not always used for positive feedback.
This form of advertisement can enlist fear, suppress, and brainwash the population. In the novel
1984, propaganda is used in this manner of negativity. A few examples of this form of publicity is
the language of Newspeak, the Party's slogan, and the two–minute hate. Nevertheless, the

During the daily hate sessions, crowds join together into a frenzy to despise Emmanuel Goldstein,
the leader of the supposed Brotherhood (the rebellious group against the Party). During this hate,
people "...were leaping up and down in their places and shouting at the tops of their voices in an
effort to drown the maddening bleating voice that came from the screen" (Orwell 14). It acted as a
way to shift tension and hatred away from the society of Oceania itself and force it onto someone
else. The Party also started to teach this concept to children through, "...careful early conditioning,
by games and cold water, by the rubbish that was dinned into them at school and in the Spies and
the Youth League, by lectures, parades, songs, slogans, and martial music, the natural feeling had
been driven out of them" (Orwell 67). The natural feeling discussed is compassion, morals, and
overall the childhood itself. These early development stages of life are crucial, and whatever
someone says, children will listen since they have not yet been taught what is right or wrong. The
Party rips the natural innocence and pure nature of children from under their feet and replaces it

Subway Propaganda
People have used propaganda, in many forms, to convince people into believing in their message for
various reasons. One example is Subway's advertisements and commercials. Subway is known for
allowing customers to choose what goes on their sandwiches from their selection of bread, meats,
cheese, and vegetables. In several of Subway's commercials, one of their employees is making a
sandwich for a customer. During these commercials, the customer or employee always emphasizes
how Subway's sandwiches are made fresh every day, and then their commercials end with their
widely–known slogan, "Subway, eat fresh." In these commercials, Subway keeps mentioning the
use of fresh ingredients in their commercials and even putting the word "fresh" in their own slogan.
As a result, Subway has millions of people that believe Subway's food is actually fresh. But
according to Subway's ingredient list, the restaurant uses preservatives to make the product last
longer. Subway is one of many fast food chains that use propaganda in order to make people believe
that their restaurant's food is fresh. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

During wartime, a nation will do what it can to keep itself safe and bolster the morale of its citizens
to keep them happy and to maintain the peace. The U.S. is no different, so I began to search for
examples of wartime propaganda. I came across an article written by Gerd Horton in September
1996 titled, "Radio Days on America's Home Front," where Horton goes over the influence of radio
and how it was essential to propaganda during World War 2. World War 2 took place right as the
Great Depression was ending, and the wartime economy greatly benefitedbenefitted the nation.
There was a lot of rationing that went on however, and the public was very displeased by this.
Horton talked about how the government took advantage of the fact that "90 per

Propaganda Analysis
The techniques used to persuade the citizens contain very simple techniques of propaganda; plain
folks and bandwagon are the two main ones. These types of propaganda are very useful and very
easily caught on by the masses. What I mean by that is that everyone can either relate to the
propaganda being used or have some sort of understanding of it. This by far is probably the most
easiest and inexpensive propaganda to use as well as being simple with not much time to spend on
producing in whatever way or form you decide to place it or put out.
The main things that hook are in the names themselves, bandwagon meaning; to follow or get
something because everyone else is. Plain folks being what the name is, persuades you to feel that
whatever characters in the propaganda are selling are just like you and are easily relatable to your
life. To me every propaganda bad or good always has either plain folks or bandwagon. The other
types of propaganda used are more flashy and easier to spot to the average person because of the
fact that it may be too pushy or extra with what they are trying to sell you. Glittering generalities is
one, only using very big grand words to provoke an emotional appeal attracting all audiences
because of the vagueness of the words and promotion. Doing this by using only everything with
positive feeling and fronts leaving gaps to show you that it is not 100 percent effective or proven in
whatever case the propaganda is used in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The "it" that I'm speaking of is known as propaganda. Propaganda can be a tricky word to define

Propaganda is used to promote a certain cause to a mass audience through mass media. Propaganda
can be used to spread information for good or bad reasons and has been known to do both. The use
of propaganda for bad reasons has caused many people to view it as a deceitful word, one that
stretches the truth and blows things out of proportion to gain support––even though that is not
always the case. For example, propaganda likes to use testimonials, glittering generalities, card
stacking, and other techniques to present information in the best and most biased light (Ogelsbee,
n.d.). The article "Defining Propaganda"(n.d.) explains that propaganda can spread its message
through a variety of mediums such as pictures, drawings, exhibits, speeches, parades, songs, and so
forth. It can present itself in such a way that the audience won't even realize what it is, which can
help with its effectiveness. Basically, this means "propaganda can be concealed or open." It can also
weasel its way into your life and leave a lasting emotional effect by using "a combination of
emotional and logical appeals" (Defining Propaganda, n.d.). Propaganda typically appeals to
emotion because it helps get a message across in a short amount of time and is the most effective.
All of this means that propaganda can come in many different forms and can be adapted to fit pretty

Propaganda And The World Of Doublespeak
The use of propaganda and double–speaking have a long history, going back to the ancient societies.
Propaganda and doublespeak are the use of verbal exchange to have an effect on the emotions,
attitudes, and opinions of human beings. To try to get them to accept a particular political, religious,
or financial point of view, or even to start a war. It is careful manipulation of the opinions of the
societies mostly by their government. In the effort to control the nation 's thought process, the
government has stemmed to using mass propaganda for selling a war.
In the essay, "Propaganda: How Not to be Bamboozled," and "The World of Doublespeak," both
authors discuss and explains the unusual types of propaganda and the misleading nature of
doublespeak. First, Donna Woolfolk Cross describes the constructions and the specific methods
propaganda presented in our day by day life, and how to avoid being tricked. Also Cross believes
that it is important for People in a democratic society to be well informed about propaganda due to
how people get manipulated into simply doing something except thinking. Additionally, Cross
explains for us as readers the different sorts of propaganda and how we view the topics in a positive
way. She highlights in her essay that propaganda is not continually negative; however, it also used in
significant ways. Cross presents in her essay that there are thirteen different types of propaganda;

acknowledging that it exists. The main goal of propaganda is trying to sell your product or idea to
other people, one major form of Propaganda occurs in the news. Propaganda is used for companies
and trend setters who want to get their products and ideas out in the world so that they could
potentially become popular. Smart propagandists discovered that to create the best propaganda, the
viewer must not even realize that the product or idea is being sold to them. Propaganda creates an
extremely large impact on us and is sometimes mistaken for being "just another advertisement"
when they actually change the way we live our lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Propaganda not presents us with information and news but it also can broaden our knowledge of
certain topics. Newspaper and news on the television are both great examples of this because, yes,
they could be bias but they also inform us about what is going on in the world currently and can
present us with interesting trends that we may want to follow. Without propaganda society would
not know about some events that affect them or the rest of the world such as natural disasters and
wars. Without propaganda citizens of all over the world would be secluded from the popular and hip
ideas, although those ideas would never have been made popular because there was no one to see
and follow the trend. Therefore making every place in the world underdeveloped different. For
instance if one country created a new extra fast computer and sold it in another country then the
other country could create an even faster and better computer and share it with the original country.
Countries are interdependent in the sense that advances in one lead to advances in the other one.
Propaganda is what creates the virtual tunnel that connects many countries to each other.
Newspapers and other forms of news are very vital communication methods in the world today. The
goal of news is to sell us their ideas by being biased and talking about how their idea is best. News

Propaganda In 1984

  • 1. Propaganda In 1984 Propaganda has been used throughout history to promote and publicize a certain political cause or point of view. Propaganda gained its use by the German Nazi Party in the years leading up to and during Adolf Hitler's leadership of Germany. It was a crucial instrument for acquiring and maintaining his corruption of power. The pervasive use of propaganda by the Nazis is largely responsible for the word "propaganda" itself acquiring its present negative reputation. In Nazi Germany posters of Jewish people with exaggerated features would be hung on buildings to make them appear like rats. These posters created an image in people's minds that the Jewish people were not in fact humans and would lead to their oppression. The use of propaganda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... War is peace can be interpreted as the country is fighting and people within the country are on the same side, which furthers the party's uncontested power. Nobody questions their government while a war. By keeping the masses believing that a constant war is being waged, the government will have a way of controlling the population. War elicits great patriotism and devotion to one's country; it also promotes sacrifice and giving to the community over oneself. So, if there is constant war, the people are constantly blindly pledging devotion to their government. This keeps the people from seeing the large picture and keeps the government in control, and therefore, peaceful. Ignorance is strength can be explained as, if people remain ignorant, they will not question the Party hence making the country "stronger." When the government has no on questioning or looking at them they are free to do what they want. Big Brother implements this by creating Newpeak, which eradicates most words from existence. Words such as rebellion were taken out in hopes that people would forget what it means and stop practicing it. Freedom is slavery can be described as, if people are free to do things and express ideas contrary to the Party's doctrine, everybody is made weak and powerless under the government. They are slaves to their own ideas and not strong under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. What Is Propaganda In Ww1 Propaganda was a predominant and effective weapon of warfare during WW1 (1914–1918) and to a very large extent; it influenced the involvement of civilians in several movements of the war. There were several elements, both stylistic and technical, incorporated within the propaganda, which created conceptions of nationalism and anti–national sentiment and involved different demographics such as North Americans and women. All these factors contributed to the enormity of war and increased the extent of people who participated in the war, whether it was in the trenches at front lines or in their towns at the home front. Nationalism was one of the driving factors of the war and the main objective the propaganda of WW1 intended to portray through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Images of women were often exploited in wartime propaganda, as they were romanticized and significant female figures. An example is England's image of Britannia, a Romanesque warrior, who encouraged men to fight for their country and protect their women and children (Welch D, Propaganda for Patriotism and Nationalism, 2014). This information substantiates with Jo Fox in her article, Women in World War One Propaganda (2014), as she says "Women served as the embodiment of the nation: Mère–Patrie, Marianne, 'the spirit of Australia', Mother Russia, 'Liberty', and Britannia all took the female form, appearing as both demure and combative." German and French propaganda on postcards romanticized war and women, depicting soldiers thinking of their loved ones while at war and helped them envisage heroic returns (McCallum, 1996, pg.141). Women were used as a tool of propaganda in WW1, their involvement due to propaganda issued was a preponderant factor since women had partial support of the war. More than 175 000 women were involved in the industrial activity of the war because of campaigns such as the "Register of Women for War Service" as claimed by McAndrew M, Thomas D and Cummins P (1997, pg.224– 225), authors of The Great War; 1914–1918; Problems, Issues, Sources, Skills. • 3. Examples Of Propaganda In 1984 Propaganda is a word for the distribution of information that reflects the views and interests of those advocating such information. In other words, if the government is the source of the information, it is probably pro–government. Propaganda manipulates you by directing the aggression that would normally be directed at them, to another entity or group, such as Hitler blaming the Jews for Germany's poor economy. It can also work to destroy the very logic that could be used to resist it, such as claiming that two plus two is five. Propaganda also tries to silence or discourage any of those who oppose it. There are ways to resist propaganda, such as researching what is being told to you, in an attempt to find the truth about what is being said, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "party" has every citizen in Oceania shout at a telescreen with Goldstein's face on it for 2 minutes every day. The Ingsoc Party encourages belief in Goldstein and his resistance, so that they can blame acts of sabotage and any disloyalty among party members on him. An example of this sort of blame–shifting today, is the notion that school shootings are caused by video game violence. Kentucky governor Matt Bevin has been quoted saying, "guns are not the problem." Devin follows up by saying that video games "have desensitized people to the value of human life." These government officials are attempting to divert frustration from their perceived lack of legislative progress to video game companies. The way for you to resist this form of propaganda is to stay informed instead of listening to what others say and immediately believing it. If you looked up studies relating to video game violence and actual violence, you would realize that there is no connection between the two. • 4. Propaganda Propaganda Analysis Soon after the tragic and devastating attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1942 by the Japanese Empire, America was quick to retaliate and went in with full force on the offense against our aggressors. About 50 million men were drafted into the armed forces, forcing them to leave their homes and family behind. This especially caused adverse effects to the job market. Jobs and tasks still needed to be continued while the war was in effect, so women, kids, and those people unable to qualify for military service had to step in. In order to achieve this goal, propaganda was utilized to target specific groups by distorting the mind into believing it's a duty that must be accomplished. More specifically, we will analyze a specific propaganda poster created and published by the RCA Manufacturing Company in the year 1942. The propaganda poster displays the following context in bold and conspicuous lettering, " United we stand, Divided we fall: Beat The Promise." Furthermore, we are able ... Fleming's article "Understanding Propaganda From a General Semantics Perspective."The glittering generality technique can be recognized in the background and initial phrase from the poster, " United we stand, Divided we fall: Beat the Promise." Non– Identity is utilized with the use of the words "United" and "Divided", by increasing the motivation to work as a team. Even though the phrase does not represent the real underlying meaning of the poster, which is to surpass the original established quota. "By 1918, and the end of of hostilities in the European theater, more than a hundred Americans had lost their lives." This song talks about the soldiers who fought in the war that passed in 1918" (Miller). This is effective propaganda because of its appeal to emotion (pathos). When I was watching the movie "Triumph of the Will" I can clearly see a great example of political propaganda. What Hitler was doing here is spreading his ideas and beliefs to convince the public. The article Paradox of Propaganda states that "When Luis Bunuel showed his edited version of Triumph of the Will to an audience consisting of President Roosevelt, Rene Clair and Charles Chaplin they all agreed the film was too good to be used against itself". "Advertisers lean heavily on propaganda to sell products, whether the "products" are a brand of toothpaste, a candidate for office, or a particular political viewpoint." (The Longman Writer McClintock's Essay Pg. 232). There are seven main types of propaganda, Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Since its first use, most people when they hear propaganda, think only about political ads but that is not all that propaganda is used for. "Although propaganda may seem relevant only in the political arena, the concept can be applied fruitfully to the way products and ideas are sold in advertising." (The Longman Writer McClintock's Essay Pg. 232) Two very good examples of using propaganda techniques are a State Farm commercial, and a Farmers advertisement. The State Farm ad is a beautifully done, two minute long commercial that is meant to pull on the heart string of the watcher with a technique such as Plain Folks. • 10. Essay On Ww2 Propaganda During World War II, governments would create propaganda in hopes of inspiring or convincing citizens in their country to make a contribution to the war effort. Therefore, the techniques used to persuade their citizens to join the war movement was through different fonts, pop of colors, and images to catch the reader's eyes. The first poster of Uncle Sam, named "I Want You for the U.S Army" rose during 1917 as the original artist, James Montgomery Flagg created this poster to encourage recruitment in the United States Army at the advent of World War I. "I Want You for the U.S Army" poster was extremely popular as it had over four million copies of it printed and displayed throughout the United States. Flagg created the image to symbolize America and America's demand for young recruits for the war effort. However, Flagg creates Uncle Sam in a unique way to not only address the clustered population of young soldiers but to directly encode the importance of the individual. The poster has the word "YOU" in bolded and slightly bigger letters. When one looks at the parts of the poster that are unique, one might look at the word "YOU" and straight towards the index finger pointed at the individual. This use of linear perspective that Flagg creates is fundamental to the message of the poster. If one were to draw lines from any part of the poster, it would lead to the index finger, revealing the important placement of the finger in the middle of the poster. Additionally, the use of lithographs, or authorized copy of an original work, was ubiquitous in the United States as higher quality copy images of Uncle Sam were created consistently at a high rate. This recurring image that was engraved in the minds of Americans exposed to newspapers and media outlets can identify Flagg's poster as a symbol of wartime and demand for soldiers. White and black propaganda is another element of propaganda that are important when discussing it. White propaganda is not viewed at harshly as black propaganda. Just like in Animal Farm by George Orwell, Squealer consistently spreads propaganda to the other animals throughout the book. Similarly, Frank Luntz, a pollster and political consultant, often spreads his opinionated thoughts to the public. Today we have Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat; the media list available to the public is almost infinite. It has not always been like that though; people have not always had smart phones and the internet to get information about what is happening in their country. Denying the Holocaust and misrepresentation of facts is a form of antisemitism. Holocaust deniers ignore the overwhelming obvious evidence of the mass murders that occurred. They say the Holocaust is a myth, invented by the Allies, the Soviet communists, and the Jews for their own ends. Some deniers argue that since there was no written documentation of the killings, that the Holocaust itself was a hoax. They reject all evidence submitted at the Nuremburg Trials(Deniers). The Nuremburg Trials were held in Nuremburg, Germany to bring Nazi criminals to justice. The defendants were convicted between 1943 and 1945, in a series of thirteen trials(History). Some people even go as far to say that the "few" Jews who died were from natural causes or being killed for committing a real crime. Deniers say the number of between 5.1 and 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust were exaggerated. Some say the Nazis didn't use gas chambers to kill Jews. (Deniers) There is tons and tons of evidence to prove these deniers wrong. One example is on June 25, 1943, the brand–new gas chamber/crematory 3 opens at Auschwitz. • 19. American Propaganda Propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view. It can be of a positive or negative nature, but its overall aim is to influence those viewing it and hopefully persuade them to share the propaganda's creator's point of view. When America joined the War in 1941, after remaining neutral and determined not to get involved for two years, a great amount of propaganda was produced and displayed to the American citizens. This propaganda was produced in many different forms, one of which was using American companies' advertisements. Although this may seem unnecessary as there were many other media forms that were also used, advertisements were a very big and important form for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows us that advertisements being used as forms of propaganda were being produced for essentially the entire duration of America's participation in the War, which tells us that it was an important form of propaganda. This meant that America felt that propaganda needed to be produced and spread as soon as possible and advertisements of different companies were one of the first forms of media to be used do so. And by using adverts, they could use both images and written words to influence people. Using emotive language would have been very effective in persuading and influencing others, and an image literally paints a picture for you to imagine. A picture can have an effect without you putting much effort into observation – just by looking at an image you are taking it in; you do not need to read. And by already creating an image for you, you immediately see what they want you to see, and imagine exactly what they want you to imagine, how they want you to imagine it (for example in source E how you see the evil in the Japanese pilot that they wanted the American citizens to see and 'know about' and you see the destruction of the American plane and the pilot, one of their own, falling seemingly lifeless to the ground, which would have immediately hurt and offended the Americans seeing it). Moreover, Doob, who worked for the Office of War Information in WWII, argued that "a clear–cut definition of propaganda" is not only impossible, it is also highly undesirable (1948, p. 375). He believed that posing any types of limitation will harm the understanding of the term. Since propaganda changes in regard to context and timing in which it occurs, different countries and different time periods would experience different types of propaganda. Thus, propaganda occurring in a given timeframe in a given country will not necessarily contain a propaganda message in the eyes of a neighboring country, for instance. This notion clarifies the previously discussed remark by Nicholas O'Shaughnessy. Namely, propaganda techniques of Ancient Egypt did not aim to influence people in the future. With outside forces, patrolling your town, and battling in the distance it is clearly within an individual's right mind to feel insecure, and unsafe. Persuasion is also " more concerned with the mutual benefit of both the persuader and those being persuaded" (Difference, n.d.). • 35. Propaganda Analysis The techniques used to persuade the citizens contain very simple techniques of propaganda; plain folks and bandwagon are the two main ones. These types of propaganda are very useful and very easily caught on by the masses. What I mean by that is that everyone can either relate to the propaganda being used or have some sort of understanding of it. This by far is probably the most easiest and inexpensive propaganda to use as well as being simple with not much time to spend on producing in whatever way or form you decide to place it or put out. The main things that hook are in the names themselves, bandwagon meaning; to follow or get something because everyone else is. Plain folks being what the name is, persuades you to feel that whatever characters in the propaganda are selling are just like you and are easily relatable to your life. To me every propaganda bad or good always has either plain folks or bandwagon. The other types of propaganda used are more flashy and easier to spot to the average person because of the fact that it may be too pushy or extra with what they are trying to sell you.
