2. Hi friends! In this lesson, I am going to talk about the relative clauses. Pay attention and learn!
3. There are two types of relatives clauses: 1. Defining relative clauses 2. Non-defining relative clauses
4. A defining relative clauses gives essential information about somebody or something. EX.: He is the man who lives next door. It's an information about the man.
5. In this kind of clause, 'that' can be used instead of who/which. Ex.: he is the man that lives next door.
6. A non-defining relative clauses gives extra information about a person o thing, not essential. In written English, this clause is separated by a comma. Ex.: My uncle, who lives in Manchester, come to London for Christmas.
7. But, in this kind of clause, you cannot use 'that' instead of who/which.
10. Who/whom These two pronouns are referred to persons, but who refers to the subject of the sentence, and whom refers to the object. Ex.: The person who phoned me last night is my teacher. Ex.: The person whom I phoned last night is my teacher.
