The Marketing Strategy Of Countdown Essay
Countdown is one of the market leaders in the FMCG industry in New Zealand where the customers
are changing rapidly. The author has chosen Countdown for the study as it has a well–known history
of success in satisfying multicultural customers in New Zealand and also it is on a continuous look
out for the possibilities in growth.
The author has selected two models which are Porters Five Force and Value Chain and has applied
these models on Countdown. Woolworths, Progress Enterprises and Countdown supermarket's web
sites are the key resources for this report.
A thorough study of the IT systems in Countdown supermarket has been made by various methods
such as personal visits to the branches, oral interviews with Countdown staff and also by studying
the resources available on the websites. The assumption that has been made after reviewing all the
available resources is that the Countdown is still using a legacy mainframe system for their Payroll
management system.
The Author has analysed the company based on the information that has been gathered and aims to
make an IT plan. This IT plan would include current and proposed IT systems and its processes. The
new IT systems may include CRM, CPFR and web based approach for payroll management.
To enable successful execution of the new IT plans the author plans to move ahead with the
planning on SLA (Service Level Agreement) with third party IT vendors, IT Security and plan to
mitigate risks. The author has prioritized the proposed

Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan
We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including;
tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans
that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account,
American Opportunity Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees.
There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child's college. The plan will
help families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and
prepaid. Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose
the savings plan, it comes with different options to invest the family's money in. The account will
either increase or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family
to pre–pay all of the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a
private college. Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally
tax–free. Therefore, the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529
plan does not have to be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control of the account. The
account owner can withdraw funds at any time, but non–qualified withdrawals will earn income tax
and a ten percent tax. Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. There are no limits on income, age, or
yearly contribution. (§529)

The Free Application For Federal Student Aid
Introduction During week two, we were tasked to conduct a financial analysis of the Johnson family
and assess their ability to independently fund the college educations of their three children. That
analysis determined the two hundred dollars currently contributed monthly to each child's college
fund since each child was born will not fully fund their educations, given their ages, current
balances in each college fund and the annual inflation of college costs. Assuming their available
cash flow will only support the current monthly college fund contributions, alternative methods and
financial tools must be explored to mitigate the shortfall. The purpose of this paper will be to
research other college funding alternatives which may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is equally important for other potential forms of financial aid as "many states and
colleges use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some
private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify
for their aid" (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Federal Student Aid is a very large program
"providing more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work–study funds each year to more
than 13 million students paying for college or career school" (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1).
Therefore, the student who is seeking financial aid to cover a portion of college costs needs to first
and foremost complete a FAFSA application as it is the basis for Federal Student Aid but is also the
data source for other forms of student financial aid. FAFSA applications consider the assets of the
parents and the student in determining the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and will normally
expect a higher percentage of contribution from student assets vice a lower percentage from the
parents (Mannaioni & Greer 2016). For determining family or student assets to be assessed against
potential financial aid, FAFSA places emphasis on family or student adjusted gross income as other
assets such as "retirement accounts, cash value life insurance, home equity and small business
assets" are excluded when calculating the EFC. Institutional Methodology, on the other

Similarities Between Proctor And Gamble And Unilever
Proctor and Gamble vs. Unilever Over the past decades creating corporate social responsibility has
become very important to companies in order to compete in their industries. It has become obvious
to the public that corporations have so much power in society; so corporations efforts to improve
society has become a necessity to many consumers. Corporate social responsibility is defined in our
textbook as, "a business concern for society's welfare"(Lamb, Hair, McDaniel 2017). When taking a
look at Proctor and Gamble and Unilever's goals to create stronger corporate social responsibility in
society I have identified a few major similarities and differences. First we will talk about a few of
the similarities that have been identified in these company's plans. One similarity shared between
these company's plans is their focus on Gender inclusiveness. Unilever's goal is to empower 5
million women by 2020, while P&G is also focusing on empowering women in many ways. One of
the ways is by promoting work for women within the firm, in India they claim to have 30% of their
plant workforce being women. Another similarity can be seen in their focus on enhancing lives
through out the world. A Forbes article about Unilever outlined that, "the washing brand Persil has
helped 10m children get an education whilst cleaning bleach Domestos has helped 5m people gain
access to toilets"(Feller 2016). P&G has also shown is commitment to improving lives by teaming
up with Habitats for Humanity to provide shelter for low–income families. According to Habitats
website, "Nearly 2,000 P&G employees have built, repaired or cleaned homes with 12,000 families"
(Proctor and Gamble 2015). The last similarity that I have found is both companies have set their
goals for 2020 and have tracked their progress over the years. Unilever has focused on its three main
goals and have further divided these goals into 50 goals in order to track their progress. P&G has
done a similar thing by creating sub goals within each of their four major goals. Both company's
track and reported yearly progress for each of these goals.
There are a few major differences between P&G's and Unilever's plans. First off Unilever focus
more on differences the consumer of

The Importance Of Being A Manager During Times Of Success...
Introduction:
The following Case Analysis details the many aspects of being a manager during times of success
and struggle. Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Indiana, implements a
bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and productivity in his company. The following
analysis will demonstrate how at its inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually
starts to decline when a downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be
made on whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can take to
increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant.
Analysis: The Scanlon plan was introduced in the 1930's by Joseph Scanlon, an accountant and
member of the Steelworkers union (2). The Scanlon plan that Engstrom used focused on cost saving
and higher production, which would then increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process,
and Bent made sure 75% of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at
all levels, and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of financial
and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency, allowing suggestions, and
an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the plan would provide a source of intrinsic
motivation to employees of Engstrom. As stated earlier, Bent ensured that at least 75% of his
workforce agreed to the plan. By doing so, he was examining the

Advantages Of 529 Plan
A 529 plan is one way of saving money for college for qualified educational expenses, including
tuition, college fees, room and board, books, computer and computer associated equipment, and
required school supplies and equipment. The IRS has specific guidelines in IRS Publication 970:
Tax Benefits for Education.
The IRS has a 529 Plans: Questions and Answers web page which lists common questions about the
plans.
An example of state specific plans is the North Carolina 529 Plan. In North Carolina, a 529 plan is
one way of saving money for college for family members, friends, and even the account holder.

Strategic Plan Of The Saudi Arabia Ministry Of Foreign...
Introduction:
The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a five year applied strategic plan (ASP) to develop
the performance of its human resources. This ASP is put in place to help senior leaders establish a
better outcome form new hired employees at the ministry. The purpose of this ASP is to draft a
roadmap for new employees to enroll in training and gain techniques. The foundation of this plan is
training for employees on learning new techniques. That the human resources (HR) applied strategic
plan is in place, but not very efficient to accomplish their goals. A re–examination is needed.
Applied Strategic Planning
The applied strategic plan lays the five year framework for the new hired employees to become
productive and successful. The ministry has developed its strategic plan from operational
applications and previous data. There are four aspects of ASP that will be examined:
1. Planning to plan. Since the ministry has an existing strategic plan, the post–planning will be

529 Plans In Higher Education: A Case Study
If you are like many Americans, you may not be. College costs are rising quickly, although not as
much for 2013–14 school year as in the past. For tuition and fees only in 2011–12, we saw increases
of 8.5%; in 2012–13, we saw increases of 4.5%; and for 2013–14, the increases were 2.9%. Who
knows what the future holds? It is best to start preparing now. A 529 plan can help you with the
uncertainty, and help you to be ready financially for when beloved sweet pea leaves the nest for
some higher education.
What is a 529 Plan?
A 529 Plan is an education savings plan operated by a state or educational institution designed to
help families set aside funds for future college costs. 529 Plans can be used to meet costs of
qualified colleges nationwide. In most plans, your choice of school is not affected by the state your
529 savings plan is from.

If you have any desire to pay for any, or all of your children's college costs, it is best to start saving
early. For example, a child currently 2 years old, with no 529 plan yet established, who will go to 4
years of public, in–state school, will likely need almost $240,000 to pay for their college! If you
start funding a 529 plan now, you would need to save a little more than $600 monthly to pay for the
entire 4 years of college (this includes anticipated college cost increases of 5% annually and with
6% after tax earnings each year in your college savings fund). A private school for 4 years could be

Personal Narrative : A Short Story
=One day Breanna was on her way to the store. She was going to the store for some clothes and
food. Breanna is seventeen years old and loves shopping. When she got to the store she saw two
security guards. She was a little confused but didn't worry about it. When she was about to go inside
the store one of the guards stopped her. Then she could not believe what she heard.
"I am sorry ma'm but you can not come into this store" said the guard. "What!? Why!" said Breanna.
"It is now against the law for a women to come inside a store without a male adult with you" said
the guard. "What! That is so unfair!!" said Breanna feeling anger boil in her blood. "I understand
how you are feeling ma'am but unless you have a male adult with you then I will have to ask you to
leave" said one of the guards. Then in that moment Breanna stormed off.
Right when Breanna got home she went straight to her mom. When she saw her mom she told her
everything. When her mom heard what happened the news she was just as confused and shocked as
Breanna. "Mom we should really do something about this" exclaimed Breanna. "Honey, we should
just give it some time" said her mom. "Breanna I am not talking about this with you!" said her mom
starting to get angry. "Ok fine mom!" said Breanna.

Total Rewards
Describe each of the top five (5) advantages of a total rewards approach.
The first advantage of a total rewards approach is self fulfillment so that people are recognized for
what they do and encouraged to reach their potential through effective learning and development
processes and given feedback on their performance. The second advantage is an organization culture
where roles are clear and organizational and personal values are in alignment so that employees
engage and enjoy work. Another way to consider the necessary components of rewarding people is
to view them as individuals, within their team, in the organization and generally in the workplace.
The fourth advantage is recognition, you must make sure that the employees ... Show more content

The next step in developing your communication plan is to identify objective/goal statements that
indicate the "end state" you hope to achieve. It's critical that each of your objectives/goals has a
specific, targeted "end point" or outcome. This both helps you determine the amount of resources
that must be allocated to achieve the goal and also provides an indicator of success. The next step is
to target your audience because you will need to remember that your challenge will be finding a
balance between exerting more effort than is required to communicate to various audiences and not
exerting enough effort to impact the appropriate audiences. A good starting point in identifying
target audiences is to consider the various stakeholders that the message impacts. Each identified
target audience has different communication needs. The content, order and number of key messages
are likely to vary by group. The fewer and more specific your key messages can be, the better. Three
key messages are a good number to aim for more than that will broaden your focus and minimize
the impact of your communication. Objectives/goals identify the end points you hope to achieve.
You will have to go beyond these broad objectives to identify

When I set out for my walk today, I had several very specific goals in mind. I wanted to walk for
about an hour, cover about 4 miles, and get some inspiration along with fresh air. Based on my
goals, I created a plan. I would drive to a large wooded "reservation" near my home. I plotted the
path I would take. I would start by walking through the woods toward a paved path, do the loop on
that path, and finally circle back along the road to my car.
I parked my car and headed to the path that would take me through the wooded area. It 's right next
to a dog park. There were five people walking with their dogs along the path that I was about to turn
onto. I don 't have a dog and frankly, didn 't want the company. How was it that, before I even
began, my plan wasn 't working out right?

Higher Education Savings Plans Essay
Higher Education Savings Plans
Abstract
This paper is about the Section 529 higher education savings plans that allow family members to
receive certain tax breaks while investing for a child's higher education. The data used in this study
is the historical rate of return on a Connecticut 529 plan versus the benchmark, the S&P 500.
The time period covered was the inception of this plan starting in 2002 up to the start of research on
this study, the end of September, 2004. The tests show that although this particular 529 plan offers
tax benefits that could help in investing for higher education, that this particular plan failed to

Such a plan allows an individual donor to contribute up to $55,000 to the account with couples
allowed up to $110,000 without paying gift taxes and without reducing estate tax credits (Malkiel,
2003). But as we know, if it does not outgain the alternative, then it is not a worthwhile cause. Plans
have a 10% penalty that is assessed on the income portion of any distribution in excess of qualified
higher education expenses as well as a penalty for withdrawals not made for a qualified use. Such
penalties are on top of the federal taxes that now must be paid to due to non–qualifying use (Auster,
2003). Therefore, there is a need to examine further just how well these 529 savings plans are
performing and whether it is a way to beat the market.
I. Literature Review
There are many positive aspects of Section 529 college savings plans that are attractive to parents
and grandparents. These plans are designed to encourage saving for college or post–graduate
education of the younger generations. These plans let the family save for any eligible higher
education institution in the United States. Qualified higher education expenses include tuition, fees,
room and board, required books, supplies and equipment at an eligible institution.
There is no question of the growing popularity in these plans. Their assets had doubled by 2003 and
could triple to approximately $50 billion by 2005 (Karp, 2003).

Without it you are operating your business blindly. Trying to hit a target that you can 't even see.
Have you ever tried to shoot a dart at a bullseye? Very hard to do right. Well operating a business
without a budget is like trying to hit that same bulls eye in the dark. Impossible to hit that target...
unless you can see in the dark.
2. Not tracking against your actuals.
Once you have a budget you must compare how you are performing to that budget regularly.
Minimally once per quarter. If you don 't do this critical step then you have no idea how good or bad
you are doing as compared to that plan. Comparing your budget to your actuals helps you
understand what is really going on in your business. It also helps you see how your business is
trending year over year as well as compared to your industry competitors.
3. Not following your budget.
Once you create your budget you MUST FOLLOW IT. Say it with me I WILL FOLLOW MY
BUDGET. There is nothing worse than creating a budget and not following it. Why create a plan
and then place it in a drawer and never look it again? That is the equivalent of not having a budget at
all. Would you climb a mountain without a guide? No. Would you buy a house without determining
a budget around how much house you can afford and the taxes and the insurance and the utilities.
No. So why would you operate your business without a plan? Following your budget allows you to

According to the planning consultants of Somersworth, New Hampshire (2010) a new Master Plan

upgrading the wastewater treatment facilities, and lastly, dedicating land acquisition to conservation
purposes (Master Plan Update, 2010).
The basis of this paper is to layout improvements that can be made to the Master Plan of
Somersworth, as well as provide improvements for the community. One of the most prominent
assets to the Master Plan was appointing a committee for the 2020 Vision in hopes to create a

dash their child's dream of becoming a doctor, or find a way to make it happen? We all know a
college education comes with a high price tag, but with all the advantages like high income potential

automatically come with tremendous debt.

As more and more high school students realize this, the increased demand and need for college is
going to go up. According to the Lumina Foundation for Education, colleges are realizing students
and families are willing to go into debt as to increase their post–secondary education income
(Dickeson). What about the others who cannot afford to go this route? Individual states play a major
roll in the cost of higher education. If anyone has been watching the news lately, they most likely
have seen states facing budget problems and shortfalls. With this being said, it now means most of
the problem has been shifted onto the shoulders of the parents and aspiring students. Justification for
these outrageous costs is being demanded not only by parents, but also by state and federal officials.
According to the College Board, "In the past five years, the average cost of in–state tuition and fees
at public colleges has jumped 35% –– after adjustment for inflation. . . . In the past 25 years, the
average cost of tuition and fees has risen faster than personal income, consumer prices and even
health insurance" (Block 1). Tuition prices pose a serious problem, especially for families whose
income cannot keep up.
How much does college actually cost? The answer is, it varies. Colleges come in a wide variety.
Depending on location, rankings, public or private, majors and minors, and numerous other factors,

Liz definitely needed to plan ahead for her presentation to the Hudson Valley Business Association.
Her speech made her lack of knowledge obvious to all the business leaders present at the meeting
and may have exposed the weaknesses to her competition. On the other hand, after returning to her
office Liz did handle the criticism very well, she was open, honest and direct with her coworker in
discussing the issues with her speech. It was a great testament to management that this employee felt
at liberty to be direct with Liz, there are few companies which can claim the same open door
success. This employee did a great job of outlining her concerns but ended up dismissing her entire
argument with the statement "You're a hit, you can move on from here." This is a little discouraging
because it indicates that Liz's downfall with planning and strategy is being approved and affirmed
by her employee base, this is dangerous for a company.

Strategies in Planning
Sharyn A. Quelitano
BSIE III–2
Topic: Strategies in Planning
I. Introduction: Strategic planning is an organization 's process of defining its strategy, or direction,
and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. In order to determine the
direction of the organization, it is necessary to understand its current position and the possible
avenues through which it can pursue a particular course of action. Generally, strategic planning
deals with at least one of three key questions: "What do we do?", "For whom do we do it?", "How
do we excel?" In many organizations, this is viewed as a process for determining where an
organization is going over the next year or–more typically–3 to 5 years (long term), ... Show more

The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase specificity in business
operation, especially when long–term and high–stake activities are involved.
One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is easily
translatable into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level initiatives and over–arching
goals, but don 't get articulated (translated) into day–to–day projects and tasks that will be required
to achieve the plan. Terminology or word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both
examples of easy ways to fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is
executable to others. Often, plans are filled with conceptual terms which don 't tie into day–to–day
realities for the staff expected to carry out the plan.
The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans, policies, goals,
objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and fail to achieve clarity. The
most common of these concepts are specific, time bound statements of intended future results and
general and continuing statements of intended future results, which most models refer to as either
goals or objectives (sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short–term
goals, medium–term goals, and long–term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short–term
goals fairly easily: they stand just slightly above one 's reach.

The Quaker Oats Company
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY A strategic plan has financial and other implications over the next
several years of implementing the company strategies. And strategies come in different forms and
magnitudes. Since strategic plans covers a relatively long range of period, difficulties in maintaining
the organization's effort to keeping the strategic plan arise. The Quaker Oats Company began long
range planning in fiscal 1965. The plans created that year and annually thereafter were primarily
numbers–oriented estimates of income and requirements of capital.

▪ Understand and believe what the Company wants – ensure that there aren't any wrong corporate,

where do we want to go? On the other hand, you need really to trust and believe in what you will be

as well as the "Coercive" strategies based on authority power and "imposition of sanctions".
▪ To have support from top management – this is a vital point and the bottleneck of the Change

personnel really committed and results oriented.

529 Plan Advantages And Disadvantages
A 529 account is the go–to place for saving for kids' college. But before you commit to this type of
plan, you should take a closer look at the details so you know whether it's really a good choice for
you. While this is a popular savings vehicle for saving for college, it's not perfect. First, let's review
what a 529 plan is.
What is a 529 plan?
A 529 plan is a college savings vehicle, known as a qualified tuition plan, that allows you to save
money for your child's college education. By doing so, you get to have your money grow without
paying taxes on it (no capital gains tax and no tax upon withdrawal).
Named after the section of the Internal Revenue Code that it's written in, 529 plans are sponsored by
states, so different states have different plans. However, you are not limited to your state's plan (you

Regardless of how much money you make, you can continue to contribute to a 529 plan. The
benefits of a 529 plan are pretty compelling, as this type of plan is the most popular college savings
vehicle today.
The disadvantages of a 529 plan
There are a few drawbacks of using a 529 plan to save for college. For starters, you cannot
contribute to a 529 plan until the beneficiary child is born. So, if you want to start saving as soon as
you're married, or if your parents want to get a head start on saving for their future grandchildren,
then it won't be through a 529 plan. You'll have to save somewhere else.
Additionally, colleges consider 529 money in financial aid packages. This means that your child
could receive less financial aid for having money in a 529 plan. This is the biggest drawback of a
529 plan. Not all savings vehicles are like this. If you have savings in retirement, it's not included in
your child's financial aid package, for example. But any money that your child receives from a 529
plan will be included in determining how much financial aid your child

Variable Pay
Abstract
The main two reasons for the companies to implement variable pay plan are: motivating employees
and reducing cost. In this paper we try to point out the challenges the organizations might face when
they apply variable pay system by reviewing related literature. We find that it is difficult for the
company to have a reliable measure for the variable pay system. In addition, the focus of the
variable pay plan should be on motivating employees or cutting cost and how to strike a balance
between these two is also an essential issue. Finally we conclude that we always have to assess the
circumstances of the organization before applying the plan.

Challenges of using variable pay However, it is not easy for an organization to apply a variable pay
program. Like John& Traci (2004) stated in their article that if the companies do not manage
variable pay plan effectively, the outcome could be less than stellar. There are several concerns for

Second issue is the general rejection to variable plans because of having previous bad experiences.
This is also mentioned by Paul (2007) that variable pay received bad reputation because of many

  • 1. The Marketing Strategy Of Countdown Essay Countdown is one of the market leaders in the FMCG industry in New Zealand where the customers are changing rapidly. The author has chosen Countdown for the study as it has a well–known history of success in satisfying multicultural customers in New Zealand and also it is on a continuous look out for the possibilities in growth. The author has selected two models which are Porters Five Force and Value Chain and has applied these models on Countdown. Woolworths, Progress Enterprises and Countdown supermarket's web sites are the key resources for this report. A thorough study of the IT systems in Countdown supermarket has been made by various methods such as personal visits to the branches, oral interviews with Countdown staff and also by studying the resources available on the websites. The assumption that has been made after reviewing all the available resources is that the Countdown is still using a legacy mainframe system for their Payroll management system. The Author has analysed the company based on the information that has been gathered and aims to make an IT plan. This IT plan would include current and proposed IT systems and its processes. The new IT systems may include CRM, CPFR and web based approach for payroll management. To enable successful execution of the new IT plans the author plans to move ahead with the planning on SLA (Service Level Agreement) with third party IT vendors, IT Security and plan to mitigate risks. The author has prioritized the proposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including; tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account, American Opportunity Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees. There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child's college. The plan will help families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and prepaid. Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose the savings plan, it comes with different options to invest the family's money in. The account will either increase or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family to pre–pay all of the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a private college. Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally tax–free. Therefore, the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529 plan does not have to be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control of the account. The account owner can withdraw funds at any time, but non–qualified withdrawals will earn income tax and a ten percent tax. Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. There are no limits on income, age, or yearly contribution. (§529) Coverdell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Free Application For Federal Student Aid Introduction During week two, we were tasked to conduct a financial analysis of the Johnson family and assess their ability to independently fund the college educations of their three children. That analysis determined the two hundred dollars currently contributed monthly to each child's college fund since each child was born will not fully fund their educations, given their ages, current balances in each college fund and the annual inflation of college costs. Assuming their available cash flow will only support the current monthly college fund contributions, alternative methods and financial tools must be explored to mitigate the shortfall. The purpose of this paper will be to research other college funding alternatives which may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is equally important for other potential forms of financial aid as "many states and colleges use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid" (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Federal Student Aid is a very large program "providing more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work–study funds each year to more than 13 million students paying for college or career school" (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Therefore, the student who is seeking financial aid to cover a portion of college costs needs to first and foremost complete a FAFSA application as it is the basis for Federal Student Aid but is also the data source for other forms of student financial aid. FAFSA applications consider the assets of the parents and the student in determining the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and will normally expect a higher percentage of contribution from student assets vice a lower percentage from the parents (Mannaioni & Greer 2016). For determining family or student assets to be assessed against potential financial aid, FAFSA places emphasis on family or student adjusted gross income as other assets such as "retirement accounts, cash value life insurance, home equity and small business assets" are excluded when calculating the EFC. • 7. Similarities Between Proctor And Gamble And Unilever Proctor and Gamble vs. Unilever Over the past decades creating corporate social responsibility has become very important to companies in order to compete in their industries. It has become obvious to the public that corporations have so much power in society; so corporations efforts to improve society has become a necessity to many consumers. Corporate social responsibility is defined in our textbook as, "a business concern for society's welfare"(Lamb, Hair, McDaniel 2017). When taking a look at Proctor and Gamble and Unilever's goals to create stronger corporate social responsibility in society I have identified a few major similarities and differences. First we will talk about a few of the similarities that have been identified in these company's plans. One similarity shared between these company's plans is their focus on Gender inclusiveness. Unilever's goal is to empower 5 million women by 2020, while P&G is also focusing on empowering women in many ways. One of the ways is by promoting work for women within the firm, in India they claim to have 30% of their plant workforce being women. Another similarity can be seen in their focus on enhancing lives through out the world. A Forbes article about Unilever outlined that, "the washing brand Persil has helped 10m children get an education whilst cleaning bleach Domestos has helped 5m people gain access to toilets"(Feller 2016). P&G has also shown is commitment to improving lives by teaming up with Habitats for Humanity to provide shelter for low–income families. According to Habitats website, "Nearly 2,000 P&G employees have built, repaired or cleaned homes with 12,000 families" (Proctor and Gamble 2015). The last similarity that I have found is both companies have set their goals for 2020 and have tracked their progress over the years. Unilever has focused on its three main goals and have further divided these goals into 50 goals in order to track their progress. P&G has done a similar thing by creating sub goals within each of their four major goals. Both company's track and reported yearly progress for each of these goals. There are a few major differences between P&G's and Unilever's plans. First off Unilever focus more on differences the consumer of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Importance Of Being A Manager During Times Of Success... Introduction: The following Case Analysis details the many aspects of being a manager during times of success and struggle. Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Indiana, implements a bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and productivity in his company. The following analysis will demonstrate how at its inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually starts to decline when a downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be made on whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can take to increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant. The Scanlon plan that Engstrom used focused on cost saving and higher production, which would then increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process, and Bent made sure 75% of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at all levels, and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of financial and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency, allowing suggestions, and an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the plan would provide a source of intrinsic motivation to employees of Engstrom. To which Liz responds "Hindsight is always 20/20." Analysis: Liz definitely needed to plan ahead for her presentation to the Hudson Valley Business Association. Her speech made her lack of knowledge obvious to all the business leaders present at the meeting and may have exposed the weaknesses to her competition. On the other hand, after returning to her office Liz did handle the criticism very well, she was open, honest and direct with her coworker in discussing the issues with her speech. It was a great testament to management that this employee felt at liberty to be direct with Liz, there are few companies which can claim the same open door success. This employee did a great job of outlining her concerns but ended up dismissing her entire argument with the statement "You're a hit, you can move on from here." This is a little discouraging because it indicates that Liz's downfall with planning and strategy is being approved and affirmed by her employee base, this is dangerous for a company. Week 1 Clip 3 Scenario: CanGo management is called into a meeting where Liz briefly introduces the idea of entering CanGo in the online gaming market. • 62. Strategies in Planning Sharyn A. Quelitano BSIE III–2 Topic: Strategies in Planning I. Introduction: Strategic planning is an organization 's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. In order to determine the direction of the organization, it is necessary to understand its current position and the possible avenues through which it can pursue a particular course of action. Generally, strategic planning deals with at least one of three key questions: "What do we do?", "For whom do we do it?", "How do we excel?" In many organizations, this is viewed as a process for determining where an organization is going over the next year or–more typically–3 to 5 years (long term), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase specificity in business operation, especially when long–term and high–stake activities are involved. One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is easily translatable into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level initiatives and over–arching goals, but don 't get articulated (translated) into day–to–day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve the plan. Terminology or word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both examples of easy ways to fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is executable to others. Often, plans are filled with conceptual terms which don 't tie into day–to–day realities for the staff expected to carry out the plan. The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans, policies, goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and fail to achieve clarity. The most common of these concepts are specific, time bound statements of intended future results and general and continuing statements of intended future results, which most models refer to as either goals or objectives (sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short–term goals, medium–term goals, and long–term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short–term goals fairly easily: they stand just slightly above one 's reach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But before you commit to this type of plan, you should take a closer look at the details so you know whether it's really a good choice for you. While this is a popular savings vehicle for saving for college, it's not perfect. First, let's review what a 529 plan is. What is a 529 plan? A 529 plan is a college savings vehicle, known as a qualified tuition plan, that allows you to save money for your child's college education. By doing so, you get to have your money grow without paying taxes on it (no capital gains tax and no tax upon withdrawal). The benefits of a 529 plan are pretty compelling, as this type of plan is the most popular college savings vehicle today. The disadvantages of a 529 plan There are a few drawbacks of using a 529 plan to save for college. For starters, you cannot contribute to a 529 plan until the beneficiary child is born. So, if you want to start saving as soon as you're married, or if your parents want to get a head start on saving for their future grandchildren, then it won't be through a 529 plan. You'll have to save somewhere else. Additionally, colleges consider 529 money in financial aid packages. This means that your child could receive less financial aid for having money in a 529 plan. This is the biggest drawback of a 529 plan. Not all savings vehicles are like this. If you have savings in retirement, it's not included in your child's financial aid package, for example. But any money that your child receives from a 529 plan will be included in determining how much financial aid your child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
