The Importance Of A Career For Myself
1) What 's the most important thing for you to get from your career? This is a question I have been asking myself quite a bit lately as I approach
postgrad life. I believe the most important aspect of a career for myself is meaningfulness and being able to further my knowledge. I find I work best
when I can see a tangible outcome. If I am working on a project, it really helps to know that the work I am doing will affect someone or something in a
positive way. Apart from meaningfulness, I think being able to learn is another very important aspect to consider when choosing acareer. I would want
a career where I can get out as much as I put in. Learning from co–workers, from making mistakes, from those more experienced and anyway I ... Show

30,000/520= $57/hour. Working an extra 2 hours a day for $57/hour is definitely a deal I would happily accept. 4) What do you think is going to be
your biggest challenge working in recruitment? I think there will be several big challenges for someone working in recruitment. The biggest one I can
imagine would be facing rejection for a client. I believe that to be an elite recruiter, it is imperative to make personal connections with your clients
to ensure that you are doing is in the client's best interest. I can see myself getting personally invested in each of my clients, so giving them bad
news would definitely be in the upper tier of challenges working in recruitment for myself. I believe that handling rejection will be something I learn
as I progress in recruitment. On the flip side of this, being able to give a client good news is very rewarding in my mind and will be a motivational
force in becoming a better recruiter.
5) What 's your greatest personal or professional achievement to date? A couple summers ago, I went to India for break. Staying in Mumbai, the
plan was to visit friends and family and have a couple of relaxing weeks. While on the way from the airport to the place I was planning to stay, I saw
the extremes of income inequality as there were impoverished people living on the street right next to five star hotels and luxurious apartment
buildings. That stayed in the back of my mind

decision she was very happy because there is a goal and she knows what she needs to do in order to achieve it which helped her to plan out her
future career goals. Sonia said the transition was a gradual transition and was also on time because she knows she is young and she has a lot of time
for her to achieve her goals. The transition to become a social worker is permanent choice and the work and career counselling program is just a
temporary transition that will help her to enter York university for social worker program. Throughout the time of her transition, she was living at home

Developing A Plan For Career Success
Creating Your Career Plan
Developing a plan for career success can be described as journey of self–discovery. Many leaders have taken time to understand in depth their
leadership skills by consistently refining skill sets but also always looking to better one self. To achieve our goals in leadership, one must develop
one's skills and construct a career plan to guide them to their goals. In the class Applying Leadership Principles, we have taken time to learn about
what defines a leader and how that applies to each of us in the class. Today I will be using the skills learned over the last eight weeks to develop a
career plan. I will start by using the career center as a beginning resource to evaluate my career path, reflect on my personal career and where I
would like to be in the future, identify strengths, and align those strengths with communication skills and problem solving skills. I will describe my
career path; develop my plan of what leadership approach I believe will help me achieve those goals.
Using the Career Center
Online learning has proven to a be a preferred method of learning for many adult learners as it offers the ability to finish a degree meanwhile
maintaining a career, a family, and other obligations outside of the classroom. The benefits include allowing a student to log into a classroom when it
is convenient and accelerated schedules with less classes at a time than the traditional brick and mortar classes. One benefit however that is not as

With today's changing world and the economy the way it is, it is not uncommon for people of all ages to enter the college setting. In fact, two–thirds of
students entering the college setting are classified non–traditional (Brown, 2007). Bill (2003) found that there was an 11% increase of non–traditional
student enrollment from 1991–1998 displaying 35% in 91 and 46% in 1998. These numbers have since increased according to Jacobson & Harris

Question # 2 Career Counseling can be beneficial to everyone that seeks employment. However, when seeking advice and assistance on something as
important as a career, people should know the credentials of the counselor. Many individuals that pursue career counseling follow a variety of code of
ethics and ethical guidelines according to Brown (2007). With this being said, it is important that career counseling practice should be regulated.
According to Porter, Gildon, & Zgliczynski (2000), people claiming to be counselors is a serious problem in the state of California because no
formal standards are set for appropriate licensure except for that of a marriage counselor. This lack of standards and credentials causes many
problems for those seeking advice and assistance with a particular problem. More importantly, the public is not protected even if they take a case to
court and the "counselor" is found guilty. What is to be taken away? He can continue to practice because he does not have a certificate to begin with.

Assessment Tools
While career counselors have a wide range of assessment instruments they can utilize; choosing an instrument that is effective, reliable, economical, and
cross–cultural can be challenging; however, when assessment instruments are chosen correctly, they can provide counselors with wealth of
information regarding their client. Be that as it may, if career counselors neglect to consider all aspects of their client's lives such as their worldview,
cultural background, and ethnicity etc. assessments can yield invalid results and thus ineffective career counseling. Utilizing the O*Net Online as

Myers–Brigg Type Indicator The Myers–Brigg Assessment, and the four dimensions of personality types based on the findings of Carl Jung, Isabel

nurturers. Additionally, individuals of thispersonality type tend to be practical, and sensitive towards other's feelings. These traits make the ISFJ
personality ideal for careers such as counseling where they are needed to give practical and emotional support. ISFJ personality types are reliable, and
exhibit a strong sense of responsibility and duty (Sharf, 2013). Moreover, this personality type prefers organization, planning, and schedules, (Neukrug
& Fawcett, 2015); qualities that Katie has presented in her coaching positions. These characteristics have been noted in jobs that Katie has held.
Furthermore, ISFJ individuals carry high standards of work ethic (ISFJ–Introverted, Sensing, feeling, Judging). Careers where they serve others best
suit their personality style. Both of Katie's career pursuits necessitate serving others. ISFJ's are warm, sensitive to others feelings, and value kindness;
additional qualities essential qualities to being a genuine counselor and caring, nurturing, supportive coach (Portrait of an ISFJ, 2015).

Different Stages Of Career And Life
Different Stages in Career and Life According to Capuzzi & Stauffer (2012), the tenuous, but nonetheless important, relationship between the different
stages in career and life are understood to be explored in clients in two different stages of change. The first stage is known as the transtheoretical model
of behavioral change. This model consists of six stages that clients experience during the onset of their change (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). The stages
of change are (DiClemente, 2003): precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination (p. 527). Depending on the
issue the client is dealing with will determine what stage he or she is at. For example, in the precontemplation stage, clients lack... Show more content

(Zunker, 2012, p. 27). He made two major points about how people are influenced for a career choice. The first point was that people search for an

Career Counseling Over the Lifespan Essay
Abstract
Career counseling over the lifespan has more than an occupational focus, it deals with the person's entire being with a vision that includes one's
lifespan. Career counseling takes into consideration character development, character skills, life roles, individual life and work history, goals, and
obstacles. Acareer counselor not only assists a client with a career plan, but also with a life plan. This paper focuses on two categories of career
counseling. The first focus is the history of career counseling as a field of study with the emphasis on when and why career counseling began (1800s
as a study of how the shape of one's head relates to vocational choice), who and what influenced it (Sizer, Parsons, and Davis), and how ... Show more

This has progressed to an approach that deals with career development throughout a lifespan (Pope, 2000). Theories and assessments have developed
that look at the many variables of work, personality, interests, and needs (Whiston, 2003). The study has broadened with the use of technology and has
been challenged by the many considerations of multiculturalism (Lewis & Coursol, 2007; Whiston, 2003). A creativeGod who modeled work and rest
created man and his relationship with work. Career counseling provides an opportunity to cultivate the relationship of God and man, assists with the
discovery of one's callings and talents, and enables one to fulfill God's plans for his or her life.
The History and Development of Career Counseling
Pope (2000) describes how social reform, economic change, and federal legislation were significant factors in the evolution of career counseling. The
development of career counseling began as a social movement linked to economic changes. In the early 1900s, young people were leaving the family
farms and moving to cities to find employment. With this new growth and few regulations of labor, laborers were exploited and misused. In the first
decade of the twentieth century, one–half million children from 10–13 years of age were employed in factories (Pope, 2000). The end of World War I
and the Depression influenced the beginning of educational guidance in the public school system.

The article Manage your work, manage your life discusses the popular topic of work and life balance. Interviews were conducted and researched with

Counselor 's Assessment
In the lives of counselor's assessment plays a great role. Assessments are what shows the counselor what it is that their client is in need of help in.
Like our book states, assessment is a complex, problem solving process that allows us to collect information in order to better serve our client
(Drummond, Sheperis, & Jones, 2016). I was not aware of how involved counselors are in the testing process until I began this class. I now see
that assessments also helps the client understand their own problems as well, it is just up to us to help them interpret the assessment. When using
various assessments in counseling, we have to be aware of our clientele and culture we are working in. As counselors, we are to be conscious of
controversies in assessments such as privacy invasions, bias test, and even the pressure of the assessment of the children. We are there to help
alleviate and to insure these problems do not come to rise. Statistics in assessment is important because it enables us to keep track of how well or
below average a student or group of students are doing. Statistics is the number report that we are able to visually see. Culturally, we would need to be
aware of the customs, traditions, and values. We need to be mindful of each student or client's uniqueness and be sure we are equipped with the
knowledge to help them through the assessment. Through the code of ethics and the legal issues we are able to follow certain standards to prevent
insulting or malpractice.

Essay Analyzing Career Theories
It is simple to look at an individual's life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may

common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor

life–changing choices. I am exceedingly more decisive than in previous years because I am more secure with my internal self and due to my
experience, have the capacity to make educated decisions. TRANS Holland's Theory of Careers, while very useful, represents a societal failing.
Habitually we find ourselves judging people based on their preliminary persona; however, more often than not we find out that there is much more
under the surface. Many entertainers appear to be confident and outgoing, but basic psychology confirms that often their insecurities drive them to
seek approval and praise from the public that comes with those careers. Ginsberg and Super's Theories of Career Development have one major flaw.
This theory does not account for those individuals whom choose a career in childhood and never stray from their initial path. Whereas others come to
a standstill at one stage and never complete the process. Although the ability to consistently and effectively apply both of these theories in a myriad of
situations speak to their legitimacy, clearly it is necessary to seek other career theories to supplement ones conceptualization of this topic.
It can be difficult to judge what stage/level/period a person may be in

Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay
The previous sections highlighted post–retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships, future concerns, identity issues, career planning
decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner & Lavallee, 2008;
McGannon & Mauws, 2000; & Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience more transition–related difficulties than
those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, & Grove, 1997; & Heird & Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old
(Hadavi, 2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty obtaining a job or feeling
competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, & Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that
athletes revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review evaluating successful
career planning models in general is necessary, as there are few post–retirement career–planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005;
Morris & Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland's theory of vocational
personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career theory.
Holland's theory of vocational choice has become highly successful, since its

Career Progression And The Career Development
The above quote by Confucius is often quoted, yet job happiness isn't as easily achieved. One of the reasons behind job dissatisfaction is often the
lack of planning. But career progression and the ability find a job that doesn't feel like work requires meticulous research and focus.
In this guide, we'll explain career progression and the reasons why it's so important. We'll provide a four–step plan to help you develop a plan that
guarantees you don't feel left behind when it comes to achieving your career goals.
What is career progression?
The concept of career progressing is closely tied to the idea of career development. Career development is the lifelong process of managing your
circumstances in order to move forward to achieving your personal goals. It's the management of your education, work and leisure activities in a way
that helps you achieve the kind of future you want.
As the definition of progress states, progress is "a process developing gradually towards a more advanced state". Career progression sees you working
towards your ultimate professional goals, little by little.
In essence, career progression determines and outlines the route you should follow in order to reach the career development goals you've set out for
you. For example, your dream career goal might be to own your own business. A career progression plan will help identify the educational and work
related steps you should take in order to get closer to this goal and ultimately, to achieve

He is a recent Duke MBA alumnus, so we reviewed the UNC EMBA curriculum and discussed which electives, and program concentrations that would
be integral to a successful banking career. Leveraging my military experience, completion of a graduate degree, and obtaining other banking
certifications, will prove I am motivated and ready for greater responsibilities/promotions as they become available.
The EMBA Classroom is a dynamic environment because students learn from both faculty and fellow students. How will you contribute to this unique

A Reflection On My Career Path
My career path has undoubtedly been influenced by the people who I have come across in my life. Those people have shaped and molded me in
some fashion be the person that I am and who I strive to become. I have been and will continue to foster a compassionate ideology and lifestyle. My
family coming from no more than the clothes on their back, leaving a worn torn country with no education have helped me better understand my role
in life. I know and have come to a remedial understanding of how I am able to forge a better future for myself and family, I am and is undertaking a
journey of transformation to become a counselor to serve others. I think that coming from a family with no education background, it was quite difficult
to find someone to look up to for guidance future career options. Also, having come from a particularly large family consisting of seven other
siblings, I thought that I was overshadowed. As the middle child I was left out usually, so in turn I became independent and select a path to help
others that have similar struggles to like I did. My career choice has been greatly influenced by my family. With many the occupations that I had over
the years, has been orient around helping others. I think that due to the struggles my family had to endure to come to America made me realize that I
wanted go into a field helping others. My parents had to endure much pain and exhaustion during the Vietnam war. Both my parents were farmers and

Recruitment And Retention Of Nontraditional Students
Recruitment and Retention of Nontraditional Students
The reality for career technical educators with regard to broadening representation of both men and women in nontraditional careers is that there needs
to be a creative recruitment strategy designed that utilizes the enthusiasm and talents of successful role models (Lucci Jr., W., 2007). Effective
recruitment and teaching practices can help educators create learning situations that are conducive for all students to learn, especially those
nontraditional students in career clusters. Suggestions for recruiting nontraditional students include creating career–technical programs to reach all
students, presenting career clusters in a way that shows how career pathways can align with interests, giving students multiple opportunities to explore
both traditional and nontraditional careers. Educators should market career–technical programs to reach all students, making a concerted effort to
attract nontraditional students through the use of photos and graphics that show both genders and various races in careers at the technical and
professional levels (Clark, P., & Ohio State Univ., C. y., 2000).
In recruiting nontraditional students, intentionality and good planning are important. Unfortunately, lingering stereotypes often make the first step of
signing up for a class in a nontraditional area difficult. Strategies which are effective are those that understand and consider the target audience, provide
information in a way in which

Lifespan Development Stages
Overview/Synthesis of information across the lifespan
The three stages; germinal, embryonic, and fetal, during the prenatal development happen during when a zygote turns into a baby. Attachments or
emotional bonds start to form with caregivers early on and promote a successful growth in a child's life successfully. During the first year of life it is
so important to take time to establish and shape the child's ability to bond and create attachments in relationships in future meetings in life. During this
time we begin to see comprehension and language progress very quickly. When puberty hits there is an increase in weight and height and many other
body changes that are brought on by adolescence. As children get older they begin to try and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like Watson, Skinner also believed that children operate on their surroundings and are believed to be able to learn that things can be broken down
into smaller tasks and rewards can stimulate further learning. (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). Looking at these it is very clear to see how nature and
nurture are very involved in human development.
For counselors to provide the best counseling services to their clients they must understand all aspects of relationships and the relationship's
environment. A counselor has to be able to understand what is going to help the client find their well being. "Genes can do nothing without
environmental input and environmental effects are shaped by genetic constraints." (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015, p.34) We must always remember that
it is our job and our best interest to lead our clients to a life of wellness, happiness, and well being. That is what our profession is

Persuasive Essay On Work
People who matter aren't playing attention
People do not have the time to keep up with what you are doing. Quite honestly, people have difficulty keeping up with themselves much less anyone
else. In fact, if you are not in their face on a constant basis, you will be largely forgotten. You complete your work with no problems. Everything gets
done, and there are no problems. For this, you need to make sure that you are on their radar.
Avoid repetition of your past achievements, you don't want to become old news. Focus on recent achievements
Contribute to conversations by asking good questions
Work on confidence to speak up when you have something relevant to other people
What are you working on? – don't say 'not much'
Wrong answer: "not much"
Right answer: "I am working on X to solve Y problem. We hope to save Z dollars when we are done."
This lets people know that you are doing something important. They are more likely to remember this as opposed to the "not much". Even worse, the
wrong answer might put you on the radar for layoffs when people do not know what you are doing.
Ask for what you want
When I was at Dell, I wanted to get yellow belt certified in Six Sigma, but the class was relatively expensive. For a moment, that squashed my
excitement. I asked my manager what the likelihood the business would pay for the class. He laughed, "We have a training budget that nobody uses.
We can definitely cover that." If I assumed the class would not get paid

Journaling Reflection
1. The first resources that I've learned from this course are using the multiple job websites online, we've had excellent communication between
classmates on how we can benefit from using these sites out and look for specific jobs in our area. This will assist in work as a counselor because it
will help in my networking about the city I currently work in and learning about how to make my resume stick out. The second fact that I've learned
in this course is finding balance in your life so that you can go through the stay focused, during the semester, we had the good discussion about a
thing in our life that we enjoy. This all comes down to balance and taking care of ourselves so that we can stay sharp overall. The third fact that I
took away from the cause is the process of helping at the veterans in our community; we talked in this course about resources in our society that will
assist people that have served in the way. Certain things like VA hospitals and helping them deal with their past trauma. The fourth resource that I took
away from this course is learning about the multiple career counseling theories; this will assist in my communication and helping with my client as it
relates to their future goals. The fourth fact that I learned from this course is the importance of self–care and making sure every day you are taking
good care of yourself to function adequately in general. The fifth fact I took away from this course is how journaling is vital when it comes to

Personal Statement : Personal Development
Personal Development refers to accomplishments that improve self–knowledge and foster talents and potential, form employability, boost quality of
life and contribute to the fulfillment of desires and dreams. Personal development is not limited to self–development but also embraces actions for
developing others. As personal development takes place in the context of societies, it refers to the tools, techniques, and assessment methods that
support human development at the individual level in organizations. Reflective leadership is a way of approaching the work of being a leader by leading
one 's life with presence and personal mastery. Without self–awareness, I cannot understand my strengths and weakness. Sometimes, leaders greatest
strengths may become their greatest liabilities. Their personal characteristics and behavior forms may adversely influence how others perceive them.
Reflective Leaders are sometimes considered reserved or even indifferent which results in feeling undervalued, misunderstood, ignored, and not
acknowledged for their contributions.
To maximize my most valuable asset and to be a more impactful leader in my future career, I need to make a positive impact and be a role model for
others through understanding of my core values and blind spots of my personality or what I call them my strength and weaknesses. Knowing my
personal strengths can also aid a lot in picking the right career or making good decisions in my future career. The simple fact is that if I

Reflection On Career Development
A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal
strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their
strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include
applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and
teaching students where and how to obtain information about post–secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making
skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of
interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the
classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking
about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and
emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as
in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This
could boost self–esteem and promotes a sense of self–awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand
that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow
them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation.
B.In today's world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we
are now living in a world where technology is all around us. I was able to

He enjoys activities that allow him to be creative. This is true in work and in leisure. He currently enjoys the creativity in his work, and enjoyed it as

He has fear around losing that stability. There is a part of him that is cycling back to earlier stages, but the logistics of his life are a huge consideration
for him. Several aspects of the interviewee's career are in congruence. Congruence is a part of Holland's (2014) theory that defines if an individual is
in an environment that fits their type. The interviewee does work in a creative environment, he does get to observe and investigate, and the use of
technology plays a role. Also, his work does require some tedious tasks, which is one thing that was named as a strength. Also, I could theorize that
this interviewee is at a level 3 in Holland's theory. I believe this to be true since he struggles with seeing himself making a job change. However,
certain aspects of the theorized MBTI preference would not necessarily be in congruence. The fact that he does not feel like there is room for growth
is one reason why his MBTI score might not fit well with what he is currently doing. Krumboltz (2014) theory could be useful for this client. This
theory normalizes anxiety and emphasizes the importance of meeting the client where they are. Given the want for change, but anxiety around
changing careers – this could be beneficial for the interviewee. It appears to be a more holistic approach that I believe would work well for this
individual. This particular person is currently struggling with decision–making and Krumboltz does not view

Dealing with Change in Life
We all have dealt with change at one point in our life. Change comes in many ways from having a new baby being born to transitioning to a new
career. What I call this is forces of change. Secondly is how we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you process
the change you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take over you.
Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you are still dealing with stress. The majority of us
have change come to us when we are not ready. The most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day
businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look for a new job or plan to retire. This change
would be consider planned change. (Nelson & Quick, 2013 p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come
and go in a company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This is tough for employees to deal
with because they get use to working in one direction until someone new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson & Quick, 2013
p668). Many companies do change as a globalize style. To me having a globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I say this because the
company knows where they are moving or when they are moving, but no one

Speech On Luck
"The harder I work, the luckier I get." We've all heard stories about people who seemed to be the recipients (deserving or not) of incredible luck. They
were at a party and heard cocktail chatter about a fantastic job opportunity. They fortuitously knew a guy who knew a guy, etc.
The first century Roman philosopher Seneca said, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." A lot of folks have echoed that
sentiment over the millennia. Luck favors those who don't depend upon it. Sure, some things are mostly about luck. Las Vegas comes to mind. But
mostly, we must make our own luck by taking advantage of every opportunity we recognize or create.

You're in a job or that's disappearing. Technology, automation or a reduction in forces are eliminating thousands of military jobs. Your skills may have

4.You are bored. Your military job holds no meaning or gives no fulfillment. You have a pervasive sense of emptiness and discontent because work
doesn't satisfy your fundamental desires or personal needs.
5.Your job is just a paycheck. You do your job well. You're successful at it, and you feel secure. But there is no upward advancement. The thought of
doing this job for another 10 or 20 years is depressing.
If any of the above describes you, then you need a Career Plan. The best thing about working on your Plan is that you begin to feel like you're taking
control of your career and your future. As I mentioned earlier, one of the worst aspects of being either jobless or unhappy in your job is the sense that
your life has spiraled out–of–control. Your Career Plan is the most effective way I know for you to get that control back.

Values Is The Core Being Of Who You Are And Influences How...
Values are the core being of who you are and influences how you conduct yourself. Your values are guidelines for making important decisions such
as who to marry, what type of career to pursue and the list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and do not
change drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014) states, "Much research indicates that while our attitudes and
interests may change as a result of life experiences our values remain relatively stable" (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us to do what we
do are to stop and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those things that are most important.
In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values to me are working under pressure, variety, security
and stability along with environment and supervision. A clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to work
efficiently. Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is why variety is another value I appreciate. It helps to keep
things balanced and interesting. Variety also lends to cross–training and allowing one to work more than one job area promoting growth for each
individual within a team. Moreover, it builds employees with a broader base of experience to be a better asset to the company. Managers and peers have

The Importance Of A Career For Myself

  • 1. The Importance Of A Career For Myself 1) What 's the most important thing for you to get from your career? This is a question I have been asking myself quite a bit lately as I approach postgrad life. I believe the most important aspect of a career for myself is meaningfulness and being able to further my knowledge. I find I work best when I can see a tangible outcome. If I am working on a project, it really helps to know that the work I am doing will affect someone or something in a positive way. Apart from meaningfulness, I think being able to learn is another very important aspect to consider when choosing acareer. I would want a career where I can get out as much as I put in. Learning from co–workers, from making mistakes, from those more experienced and anyway I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 30,000/520= $57/hour. Working an extra 2 hours a day for $57/hour is definitely a deal I would happily accept. 4) What do you think is going to be your biggest challenge working in recruitment? I think there will be several big challenges for someone working in recruitment. The biggest one I can imagine would be facing rejection for a client. I believe that to be an elite recruiter, it is imperative to make personal connections with your clients to ensure that you are doing is in the client's best interest. I can see myself getting personally invested in each of my clients, so giving them bad news would definitely be in the upper tier of challenges working in recruitment for myself. I believe that handling rejection will be something I learn as I progress in recruitment. On the flip side of this, being able to give a client good news is very rewarding in my mind and will be a motivational force in becoming a better recruiter. 5) What 's your greatest personal or professional achievement to date? A couple summers ago, I went to India for break. Staying in Mumbai, the plan was to visit friends and family and have a couple of relaxing weeks. While on the way from the airport to the place I was planning to stay, I saw the extremes of income inequality as there were impoverished people living on the street right next to five star hotels and luxurious apartment buildings. That stayed in the back of my mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To achieve our goals in leadership, one must develop one's skills and construct a career plan to guide them to their goals. The first point was that people search for an environment that they can utilize their skills and abilities, and reveal their values and attitudes in the most influential way. • 15. Career Counseling Over the Lifespan Essay Abstract Career counseling over the lifespan has more than an occupational focus, it deals with the person's entire being with a vision that includes one's lifespan. Career counseling takes into consideration character development, character skills, life roles, individual life and work history, goals, and obstacles. Acareer counselor not only assists a client with a career plan, but also with a life plan. This paper focuses on two categories of career counseling. The first focus is the history of career counseling as a field of study with the emphasis on when and why career counseling began (1800s as a study of how the shape of one's head relates to vocational choice), who and what influenced it (Sizer, Parsons, and Davis), and how ... Theories and assessments have developed that look at the many variables of work, personality, interests, and needs (Whiston, 2003). The study has broadened with the use of technology and has been challenged by the many considerations of multiculturalism (Lewis & Coursol, 2007; Whiston, 2003). A creativeGod who modeled work and rest created man and his relationship with work. Career counseling provides an opportunity to cultivate the relationship of God and man, assists with the discovery of one's callings and talents, and enables one to fulfill God's plans for his or her life. The History and Development of Career Counseling Pope (2000) describes how social reform, economic change, and federal legislation were significant factors in the evolution of career counseling. The development of career counseling began as a social movement linked to economic changes. In the early 1900s, young people were leaving the family farms and moving to cities to find employment. With this new growth and few regulations of labor, laborers were exploited and misused. In the first decade of the twentieth century, one–half million children from 10–13 years of age were employed in factories (Pope, 2000). The end of World War I and the Depression influenced the beginning of educational guidance in the public school system. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the dream I never considered to continue into a career because of stereotypes such as, "Few people make enough money from art to sustain themselves." I have experienced countless lessons in my life, but this is the most important one I developed on my own. I am excited and exceedingly proud of my journey to find that belief, the way I discovered it, and what this realization means to me. I believe what you are meant to do in life is what you love most. I have always wanted to be successful, and the drive that pushes me to constantly give my best effort has not dulled. The careers that I wanted to peruse in the past consisted of being a veterinarian, a teacher, an astronomer, an entrepreneur, and a lawyer. I had specific reasons for choosing these careers, but like most occupations that young children choose to pursue, my choices were not what I was truly passionate about. There were also many factors those jobs involved that would make me unhappy, such as being a vet often requires performing surgery and performing vaccinations. It was also based on what my mindset was at the time, for example, how I convinced myself that I was destined to be a lawyer for the sole reason that I was a 'gifted argurer,' which was the equivalent of a moody pre–teen. Like our book states, assessment is a complex, problem solving process that allows us to collect information in order to better serve our client (Drummond, Sheperis, & Jones, 2016). I was not aware of how involved counselors are in the testing process until I began this class. I now see that assessments also helps the client understand their own problems as well, it is just up to us to help them interpret the assessment. When using various assessments in counseling, we have to be aware of our clientele and culture we are working in. As counselors, we are to be conscious of controversies in assessments such as privacy invasions, bias test, and even the pressure of the assessment of the children. We are there to help alleviate and to insure these problems do not come to rise. Statistics in assessment is important because it enables us to keep track of how well or below average a student or group of students are doing. Statistics is the number report that we are able to visually see. Culturally, we would need to be aware of the customs, traditions, and values. We need to be mindful of each student or client's uniqueness and be sure we are equipped with the knowledge to help them through the assessment. No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone's behavior or circumstances. A common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer. Many entertainers appear to be confident and outgoing, but basic psychology confirms that often their insecurities drive them to seek approval and praise from the public that comes with those careers. Ginsberg and Super's Theories of Career Development have one major flaw. This theory does not account for those individuals whom choose a career in childhood and never stray from their initial path. Whereas others come to a standstill at one stage and never complete the process. • 23. Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay The previous sections highlighted post–retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships, future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner & Lavallee, 2008; McGannon & Mauws, 2000; & Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience more transition–related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, & Grove, 1997; & Heird & Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi, 2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, & Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review evaluating successful career planning models in general is necessary, as there are few post–retirement career–planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris & Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland's theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career theory. Effective recruitment and teaching practices can help educators create learning situations that are conducive for all students to learn, especially those nontraditional students in career clusters. Suggestions for recruiting nontraditional students include creating career–technical programs to reach all students, presenting career clusters in a way that shows how career pathways can align with interests, giving students multiple opportunities to explore both traditional and nontraditional careers. Educators should market career–technical programs to reach all students, making a concerted effort to attract nontraditional students through the use of photos and graphics that show both genders and various races in careers at the technical and professional levels (Clark, P., & Ohio State Univ., C. y., 2000). This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post–secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self–esteem and promotes a sense of self–awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take over you. Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not ready. The most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change. (Nelson & Quick, 2013 p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come and go in a company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to working in one direction until someone new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson & Quick, 2013 p668). Many companies do change as a globalize style. To me having a globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I say this because the company knows where they are moving or when they are moving, but no one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Speech On Luck "The harder I work, the luckier I get." We've all heard stories about people who seemed to be the recipients (deserving or not) of incredible luck. They were at a party and heard cocktail chatter about a fantastic job opportunity. They fortuitously knew a guy who knew a guy, etc. The first century Roman philosopher Seneca said, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." A lot of folks have echoed that sentiment over the millennia. Luck favors those who don't depend upon it. Sure, some things are mostly about luck. Las Vegas comes to mind. But mostly, we must make our own luck by taking advantage of every opportunity we recognize or create. If you think you're lucky, you'll be lucky. The lucky guy who heard about the dream job at the party may have been lucky because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You're in a job or that's disappearing. Technology, automation or a reduction in forces are eliminating thousands of military jobs. Your skills may have become obsolete, or soon will. 4.You are bored. Your military job holds no meaning or gives no fulfillment. You have a pervasive sense of emptiness and discontent because work doesn't satisfy your fundamental desires or personal needs. 5.Your job is just a paycheck. You do your job well. You're successful at it, and you feel secure. But there is no upward advancement. The thought of doing this job for another 10 or 20 years is depressing. If any of the above describes you, then you need a Career Plan. The best thing about working on your Plan is that you begin to feel like you're taking control of your career and your future. As I mentioned earlier, one of the worst aspects of being either jobless or unhappy in your job is the sense that your life has spiraled out–of–control. Your Career Plan is the most effective way I know for you to get that control back. You might be thinking, "That sounds nice, Phil, but I need a job, like, yesterday. I don't have the luxury of making a long–range plan. I've got to pay the rent next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Values Is The Core Being Of Who You Are And Influences How... Values are the core being of who you are and influences how you conduct yourself. Your values are guidelines for making important decisions such as who to marry, what type of career to pursue and the list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and do not change drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014) states, "Much research indicates that while our attitudes and interests may change as a result of life experiences our values remain relatively stable" (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us to do what we do are to stop and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those things that are most important. In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values to me are working under pressure, variety, security and stability along with environment and supervision. A clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to work efficiently. Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is why variety is another value I appreciate. It helps to keep things balanced and interesting. Variety also lends to cross–training and allowing one to work more than one job area promoting growth for each individual within a team. Moreover, it builds employees with a broader base of experience to be a better asset to the company. Managers and peers have commented that I perform my best work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
