A detailed answer to the fourth evaluation question for A2 Media studies 'How did you used new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages? '.
2. Pinterest
Pinterest was another social media tool which helped to inspire
us and form a proper idea of what we wanted in our video, and
how we were going to achieve this practically. For example
when w e decided to add a performer and wanted to create a
strong sense of star iconography we took to pinterest finding
images of the style we wanted, we were then able to echo this
within the video with the help of the inspiration we found from
piterest.
3. Instagram
Instagram was one of our main forms of social
media when promoting the planning and
creation of our video. It enabled to show what
we were doing in a visual way, and with
wordpress, we were able to link our instagram
account with our blog, so that the photos would
automatically
appear on our
blog when a
photo was
posted from our
instagram
account.
Instagram was also the start to
getting audience feedback
about elements of our video, we
could post a photo and our
followers would comment on
what they liked about the video.
4. Prezi
Prezi was more helpful with the evaluation of our work, as we were able to
present our first evaluation question through this software, creating an
informative yet visual and interactive presentation of our work. With prezi
it allowed us to insert videos and screen shots from our video and
youtube to help fully develop and explain the points we were making. Also
because question one is quite a long question prezi helped us to avoid
turning it into an essay about whether we challenged and developed
forms and conventions within the video.
Prezi helped us to be more innovative
and creative in the way we presented
our evaluation question one.
5. Youtube
Youtube was extremely helpful when researching
into music video conventions and looking for
inspiration for our video. We used YouTube to find
the inspiration for our motif colour in James Bay’s
video ‘Hold Back the River’, we also used it to find
inspiration for our narrative performer in Ke$ha’s
‘Tik Tok’.
YouTube was also a quick way to not only publish
our finished videos for our target audience to watch
but to also upload clips of our video or other
YouTube videos that we took through QuickTime to
our blog. This way we can explain in depth the
point we’re making.
6. Quicktime
Quicktime is a piece of software that enables you to take a
video of your computer screen. This helps to demonstrate a
process such as making a poster on photoshop or editing a
video in final cut, as shown in the screen shot below. We used
this software for adding a visual representation of our points
in evaluation questions, especially when discussing
technologies used within the video. It allowed us to also take
clips from YouTube videos, selecting a certain section of the
video to help us identify and explain a point.
Quick time enabled us also to crop the screen
to a smaller size, highlighting only one section
of the screen. This helped especially when
showing YouTube videos as it allows the
audience to focus on the video itself rather
than the rest of the screen. Also when the
recording is complete it crops the video to the
the size you selected, making the video look
more professional within a presentation.
