4.
Circumcision- The removal of the foreskin of the
penis.
Tempt- To entice or to persuade someone to do evil.
Baptism- An outward expression of an inward
conversion (change).
Conscience- a persons moral sense of right and
wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one’s
behaviour.
Words with Definitions
6. A modified version of the teach-teach-trade strategy
that is presented by Hinchman and Sheridan-
Thomas (2014) is used for this lesson. The part where
the students would draw a picture about the word
was omitted.
That part of the strategy would be difficult because
the students may have a difficulty drawing an image
for circumcision.
I would try allowing the students to draw a picture
with one of my smaller classes to see what they
would come up with.
7.
The four words will be written on the dry erase
board and the teacher would pronounce each word.
The students would then be placed in groups and be
asked to choose a word card with one of the words
written on it.
Each group would have to define the word and write
a topic studied in which the word was used.
Teach-Teach-Trade
8.
I would check the students work and check for
inaccuracies before they engage in the teach-teach
and sharing of the words and definitions.
They would be allowed to use their dictionaries or
context clues (which will be reviewed) to help them
find the definitions of the words.
9.
After their definitions are checked and found to be
correct, the students would collaborate to write two
sentences using the word on their card.
The teacher would walk around the room and check
the questions to ensure that they are written
properly.
10.
One person in each group would read the word, its
meaning, and the sentences to the group. Group
members would also be given the opportunity to
create additional sentences on another sheet of
paper. (Time given for this section five minutes.)
The students would trade their cards with the other
groups, choose a different group member to read the
word, its meaning, and the sentences.
The students would continue the teach, teach, trade
until each word is presented to each group.

The strategies presented on this site can help me with the
following:
1. Allow the students to analyse and think critically about
concepts.
2. Gear vocabulary instruction toward collaborative work.
3. Give me assessment ideas for vocabulary words.

There is even an explanation of differentiated instruction
to teach vocabulary strategies to ELLs.
