Developing an Open eLearning Community In a Social Network

  1. 1. Developing an Open eLearning Community In a Social Network Dr Anne Marie Cunningham, Academic Lead for eLearning, School of Medicine, Cardiff University IDEA: Develop a community of people interested in the use of technology in medical education CHOICE OF PLATFORM? Needed to be- easy to moderate, support profiles, free, simple to use, open All the benefits of a year-round conference, attended by friendly experts, without the travel, ice- breaker events, or that slight sense of guilt when you decide to go for a coffee rather than attend one of the talks in parallel streams... I really value the generous contributions of the community experts. It is an invaluable resource for catching up on developing issues, or finding the best approach to tackle new problems. THE BENEFITS OF AN OPEN COMMUNITY? Higher Participation - Can learn from community without joining- Easy to share discussion widely
