Tilting Right, TV News Analysis
An article in the New York Times was featured on the front page of the May 13, 2017 edition. The
article, titled "Tilting Right, TV News Titan Roils Its Staff," features a small statistic on the front
page portion of the text, stating that the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, owner of many television
stations in the US reportedly uses its stations to spew right–wing conspiracy theories and reports,
apparently reaching 70% of American households. While this statistic seems frightening at first
sight, it may be misleading, as it does not information about certain factors, thereby bringing its
validity into question. The New York Times is widely considered to be a more liberal leaning media
source, and considering this political perspective is important ... Show more content on

The article continues to explain the growing concern among journalists about Sinclair's actions,
thereby continuing on the path of creating fear amongst readers. While there is truth to fear about
the situation, the level of concern being created is more than it should be, possible misleading some
readers into fearing right wing indoctrination or right wing political takeovers, as liberal audiences
of the New York Times may be more willing to believe. The 70% statistic used does not account for
the fact that not all people who have access to the TV stations will actually watch them. It is
unlikely that all these people will actually view these right wing segments on a day to day basis, as
the article leads one to believe. The statistic does not account for people who do not use their
televisions on a daily basis, or do not actually watch the stations screening the right wing stories. Te
70% does not account for the proportion of television stations viewers have access to to the number
of stations that have these segments. For example, the article mentions that Sinclair Broadcasting
Group owns around 200 TV stations. While this is a sizable amount, many television plans have
over one thousand stations, and many viewers may not even look at these 200 stations. The article
also does not mention whether all 200 stations are featured on all of these 70% of households. It is
very possible that many television sets of this 70% of household may only include 10 Sinclair
stations. This would mean that the probability of coming across one of these stations is even smaller,
but those 10 stations would still count as reaching an American household, going towards the 70%

Liberal Media Bias
Anyone paying attention to the 2016 election cycle is aware of latest accusations hurled by the
Republican candidates against CNBC and their "mishandling" of the Republican debate. This recent
outrage against the network is a product of the deeply rooted sentiment among Republicans in
particular that there is a giant liberal news media bias working to further the agenda of the
Democratic Party. Presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio, said that the media was a super PAC for
Hillary Clinton and Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee chairman, said, "CNBC should
be ashamed of how this debate was handled" (CNN). If this theory were true, then the odds would
be stacked in the Democratic Party's favor and there may be cause for legitimate concern. ... Show

Using a "common understanding" of what liberal and conservatism means, National Review and the
Progressive were chosen to be the standard of conservative and liberal media. Time and Newsweek
were considered to be largely more neutral in their coverage. So, by comparing the two neutral
magazines to the two partisan magazines the amount of bias could be measured (Adkins). The
results found that Time and Newsweek proved to be largely centrist; however, there was a slight bias
to the center–left. This finding, however, was not statistically significant and the two publications
remain in the "center" range (Adkins). Other studies have shown that there is little evidence to
support the notion that the media as a whole is significantly biased in one direction or the other.
However, there is evidence that there is a slight liberal bias in television network news (D'Alessio).
Despite these findings, 70% of Americans believe that the media as a whole are biased compared to
just 55% in 2014. However, earlier findings and studies show that on a large scale there is roughly a
balance between conservative and liberal media sources which refutes the idea that as a whole the
media are "biased". Instead, it is more akin to a "tug–of–war" in which each side balances each other
out. So this leads to the question as to why a greater number of

News Station Bias Essay
Do you watch Fox news,CNN,or MSNBC,and they have changed your mind about something? Well
than that news station must be biased. When a news station is biased they show favoritism towards a
party, religion, cause, etc. When people are biased they alter the minds of the people. Our society runs
on respect so when news stations are biased they affect our community in bad ways.Although when
they use certain techniques and are honest they help our society run . In the news the anchors and
writers disrespect the citizens by altering facts or avoiding certain topics. In an article Brent Bozell
states"That the media was hounding Mitt Romney while letting President Obama of the hook."
(Bonzell,2014) This shows disrespect because they are in favor of Obama so they go soft, and on the
other hand they do not like Romney so the try to make him look bad to lose the election. With the
media making Romney look bad they are not being polite to the people and Romney. If they change

Anonymous Is An International Organization
Anonymous is an international organization complied of like–minded individuals sharing an
extensive knowledge of computation and systematic software (German, 2012). In short, they are
hacking activists; people wanting social change who protest by revealing hidden truths. It is known
to operate on ideas rather than directions meaning that the individuals involved do not wait for
instruction or approval of a task. They do however, have a loosely agreed upon goal– for there is
order. There is no granted membership. If one believes to be Anonymous, they are. The self–
proclaimed members operate in response to events and scandals and expose what people in power
try to conceal. With many operating as one, Anonymous is bringing social justice to corrupt
organizations who disguise situations and refuse to meet the needs of the abject population. Through
their website, the displayed messages are addressed to the citizens of the earth. This is a form of
internet activism that engages and promotes their ideas. Anonymous seeks to make the world better.
In "Anonymous– Message to Citizens of the World IV" an idea and goal they have is "to create a
legitimate and parallel economy that replaces the existing one". Thus they have good intentions with
their actions. One would think they are an organization set out to cause more chaos to the world, but
really they are people who have seen the horrors happen for too long and they want to do something
about it. And if one thinks they are the

Roger Ailes 'Fair And Balanced'
"Fair and balanced" is the slogan for Fox News. Tim Dickinson, the author of "How Roger Ailes
Built the Fox News Fear Factory The onetime Nixon operative has created the most profitable
propaganda machine in history. Inside America's Unfair and Imbalanced Network," couldn't disagree
more. Dickinson, in criticism of Fox News, quotes Roger Ailes, the founder of the news network by
saying that "Forget all the facts and figures, and move to the offense as quickly as possible" would
serve as a more appropriate slogan. (Dickinson, '11 p.7) In short the author feels that Ailes is

Media Bias In The Media
Everyone has a bias, which is good. Everyone is entitled to think what they want. However, it is not
good for our media outlets to have bias when they are suppose to be the ones who inform the public
on recent issues. News is suppose to be trustworthy non partisan information, instead it is just
platforms for political parties and other groups to push their policies and further their agendas. A
recent example would be the Texas church shooting. Fox News, Chicago Tribune and NYTimes are
all good examples. They all covered the same exact story, but portrayed it in different lights. Media
bias is most explicit in a article's headline, word choice and imagery.
FOX's article is a subtle attempt to try and redirect the conversation from gun control, which is
usually where it goes after a mass shooting. The headline of this article reads "Texas church shooter
Devin Patrick Kelley served in Air Force, was court–martialed for assaulting wife, child". This
headline points out that he served in the Air Force and was arrested for assaulting his wife and child.
Even though this information is necessary in seeing what type of person the shooter was, it is
unrelated to the shooting. The goal of this headline is to try and villainize the shooter even more.
The next paragraph goes on to describe Kelley as "heavily medicated and someone who kept to
himself –– despite a deluge of posts on his apparent Facebook profile about weapons and atheism."
Religion, christianity in particular, is

The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment
Fox News:
The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment
Consumers now have access to more information than in any other point in history, and are being
subjected to partisan news on a larger scale than ever before. Partisan news outlets, such as Fox
News and MSNBC tailor their broadcasts to appeal to the confirmation bias of their target
audiences. Each network not only chooses which stories to run based on the interest of their target
demographic, but also frames the facts in a way that leads consumers to believe that their own
beliefs, however factual, are correct, which aligns with a scientific principle known as confirmation
bias. Confirmation bias is the tendency for people to seek out information that aligns with their
beliefs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
198)
Before the shift to bias or partisan news, the U.S. was brought together by World War II.
Many people received their information only by newspaper or radio and there was a sense of pride
knowing that journalists were sharing truthful information with the public. Thussu (1998) said that it
is a journalists duty to explain the information they were providing and not "indulge in cheap 'event
journalism.' "It was never good enough to throw our hands up in horror that people were dying ...
We had to work out why – to chase the story back to its roots, and write about its origins fearlessly,
even if it turned out that the ultimate beneficiary of the people's suffering was a politician or a
proprietor who had power over your own livelihood, or even your own life. A journalist's right to
investigate was not God–given: it was earned by playing one's part responsibly in guarding the
values of human society."
In the late 1950s and into the 1960s responsibility played a large role in how news was distributed.
Three television networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, were among the outlets with formally trained
news anchors who brought forth a sense of unity in the country. But, as the years progressed and
people began to develop special interests, the ways news was relayed transformed (Turow, 1997, p.
40).
However, the biggest transformation was in the early 2000s when the three

Analysis Of The Article ' Gop Fox Circus Act ' By Reed...
In the article "GOP–Fox Circus Act", Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox
have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other's agendas because of
their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are
struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a
wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their
programs. On one hand, the GOP's reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox's reporting. On the
other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from
gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal
newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due
to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of
room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful
effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the
problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics,
reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the
reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. Richardson successfully

Examples Of Ethical Issues In News
Ethical issues are situations which have positive and negative effects. TV news programmes try to
be as objective, fair and accurate when presenting their stories to the public but what does it actually
mean. Objectivity means not being bias, judgemental or prejudice when presenting the news.
Fairness means that the information is free from discrimination while accuracy means the facts are
true and free from error. In other words, the news stories that reporters make should not have
personal opinions towards an issue. This is so that the news stories, that are shown to the public, are
neutral and unbiased. The New Zealand television industry have three main news programmes. One
news, owned by TVNZ, which is owned by the government. Three news, owned by media works,

Some people believe that news programmes shouldn't care about objectivity, fairness and accuracy
while others do believe they should care. this means that the issues and two opinions or sides to it,
which has resulted in being an ethical issue. The person himself will have to decide which side they
believe is right and and which side is wrong. This opinion should not be used by reporters when
representing the news. the right side is ethical while the wrong side is said to be unethical. Ethics
has everything to from feeling, to beliefs and behaviour. Objectivity, fairness and accuracy are
issues in news reporting because the feelings, beliefs and behavior of the reporter should not convey
the issues that they are reporting. This means that their news story should not lean to one side of the
argument, or the other. This would lead to the story being opinionated and biased. The story should
be neutral and using a language that does not convey the reporters opinions to the topic. Reporters
can do this by not characterising people in ways good and

Media And Its Impact On Society
As the world becomes a global village due to technology our society changes with it. We become
more and more civilized that our way of life must change to match the changes in our world. One of
the most common changes that have hit our today's society is media. Media has penetrated through
all barriers including our war fronts and areas where man never thought to have penetrated. As
media develops through the years and technology expands more media outlets open and so the
society has and continues to move away from the mainstream media (CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN,
ABC, etc.) to local media and different websites to get their news. The trust society had in
Television and the mainstream media to provide true and uncontaminated reports has faded and
therefore society is moving away from these to where they believe they can get news first hand. In
this paper, I will attempt to explain why in today 's media many people don 't just rely on the major
networks but go online for news (Local, National, and Global). Could this be splintering our views
and causing more anger? Should it be regulated? I will also attempt to express my opinion on what
the business of news is becoming in the next ten years.
Over the years Newspapers, journals, magazines and Television had been the main source of source
of news for out American society. In recent years due to the advent of modern technology and the
internet journalism has improved and most of the media outlet expanded the way they cover

Examples Of Nature Faker In The Call Of The Wild
Do you ever hear of nature fakers? A nature faker is a writer or author that gives animals or living
things, from the wild, human characteristics and personifies them. In Jack London's novel, "The Call
of the Wild", he writes about a really tough and confident dog who thrives in nature. For his writing
in "The Call of the Wild", many people accuse Jack London of being a nature faker. Jack London is
a magnificent and amazing writer who knows a lot about the wild, therefore he isn't a nature faker.
First, one reason that he is not a nature faker is because he gives the animals more animal–like
characteristics than he does human–like. One example of this is when Buck and Spitz are constantly
fighting and are always biting each other's necks, which humans would never do. In the novel it
states, "Buck did not cry out. He did not check himself but rove in upon Spitz, shoulder to shoulder
so hard that he missed the throat...,"(London 38). This shows how aggressive he makes the animals.

Many authors exaggerate it by having animals work, have parties, and do extremely impossible
things. Jack London doesn't do that. One example is when Buck gets tired after too much pulling
with his owner, but he still pushes through like a wild animal, and he thrives through it, he doesn't
stop for some tea. One quote from the novel is, "the wound–stiffened team was under way,
struggling painfully over the hardest part of the trail they had yet encountered, and for that matter,
the hardest between them and Dawson...," (London 17). This quote proves that they struggle just
like normal animals and are not exaggerated as much as others usually are. It does not state that he
goes to a party. It clearly shows how they have to push through. It also tells us that Buck is totally fit

Abstract
The purpose of this case study was to examine the impact of acquiring Fox News on Time Warner,
Inc. The multi–faceted Time Warner merged with AOL in 2001, created a loss in value to both
companies. Time Warner has sought after ways to either increase overall revenue through divesting
portions of its corporation or acquire new companies to bolster earnings. This paper explores the

impact of complementaries, creations of anti–trusts, and the actually of a synergy taking place

The Big Time College Sports
In this era of big–time college sports, it seems the main focus of Division I athletics evolves around
the money that schools and conferences make through different deals. These deals typically involve
television rights for individual conferences with major television networks. Currently the NCAA has
a 14–year, $11 billion TV deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting for the NCAA basketball
Tournament, and this upcoming year ESPN will pay around $470 million to broadcast the new
college football playoffs. The majority of this money is streamed to a teams athletic departments via

Big Ten
The Big Ten is known as the conference "where the money is." Year in and year out the Big Ten has

which just officially joined the conference this past summer and can not receive their full share until

characters are more likely than men to use sex or romantic charm to get what they want. Men, in
contrast, are more likely than women to use physical force." I recorded each instance of use or threat
of physical force and whether it was a man or woman who did so. Each instance of sex or romantic
charm was also recorded according to which sex used that technique. Another claim was "only 28%
of women are shown on the job compared to 41% of male characters." I kept a tally of characters
that were shown on the job or made any reference to their jobs. The last claim I chose to analyze
was that men on television are rarely shown doing housework (one to three percent compared to
twenty to twenty–seven percent of women). I kept a tally of each instance that a household chore
was done and whether it was a man or woman who took care of the task. The first claim that I
analyzed was that women are more likely to use charm and men are more likely to use physical

Because the scene takes place in Korea, one can conclude that the torturers are of Korean descent

The U.S. is able to receive the information necessary to protect its country without "getting its hands

however cleverly justifies its involvement by the scarcity of time. Alan Dershowits's ticking time

question of whether a government is justified to torture a terrorist in order to extract information on

Jon Stewart and News Distortion
Network News stations like Fox and MSNBC have distorted news information so much so that
viewers now turn to comedy central to keep current with the news. Turning to comedians for news is
not a horrible idea as long as viewers understand that comedians must also distort news in order to
entertain. Now that is not to say that comedians give out fake news; a comedian must first
understand the whole of the topic before running it through a comedic process, in which they then
begin distorting the information to attain laughter. Jon Stewart has an enormous impact in the media.
Many young viewers turn to Stewart for his take on the news. According to Cox of Wonkette.com in
an article by Kurtz Howard, The Campaign of a Comedian; Jon Stewart's Fake Journalism Enjoys
Real Political Impact, says "It's not that young people don't like politics. The way politics is talked
about in the media is alienating. They're seeing Jon Stewart as a kind of hero who will lead us out of
the darkness." Stewart allows his viewers to keep current with the news by giving sound bites,
which they then could verify or explore. While many news reporters believe Stewart to be highly
controversial, the majority of young adults will watch Jon Stewart's comedic take on the news
because it is unbiased and attempts to only entertain. In an article by Rachel Smolkin, What the
Mainstream Can Learn from Jon Stewart, Venise Wagner an associate chair of the Journalism
department at SFSU says "the Daily Show [Jon

This overriding critical IT issue facing the Fox Television network and cable affiliates is disaster
recovery. According to Omar, Alijani, and Mason, (2011), disaster recovery is a set of processes and
procedures a sudden calamitous event bringing great damage, loss, or destruction, a sudden or great
misfortune or failure (Omar, Alijani, and Mason, 2011). In the media industry, the unfortunate event
may be the result of an earthquake affecting the primary distribution site in Los Angeles. The three
issues to explore is how to move the networks to an alternative distribution location while
minimizing effects of the transition, fixing a catastrophic event resulting in the failure of the playout
automation system, and failure of the network connecting alternative distribution center. The
rationale for selecting these three concerns is business continuity, revenue protection, and
maintaining the content's audience. The disaster recovery solutions should provide a rapid recovery
time for deployment and have a neutral to a positive return on investment when compared to the
losses resulting from the outage. Issue one The Fox network transmits over satellite communication

Today Is A Perfect Day For A Perfect Day
"Today is a perfect day for a perfect day." A penniless, unhappy couple has just woken up. They
have planned on going for their usual morning walk, then maybe back home to eat the most
important meal of the day, breakfast. Bobby and Mary are a married couple. They have been
wealthy, but they don't have kids so they knew they could get by. Bobby never checks his bank
account, but that day he had a warm feeling arise after him. What did he find out? Who will he tell?
Where will he go? Bobby has just gotten into his bank account when he has seen a million dollars
has been added to his account. He was jumping, yelling, and running with enthusiasm. He told his
wife Mary, but she didn't believe him, so she called their bank to find out whether it was true, or not.
The bank told Mary that what she was seeing was the correct and total balance. The she, too, started
jumping and yelling with excitement. They knew they should go somewhere, or do something
together since they had this opportunity. She knew they shouldn't turn it down because who knows
when you will have the ability to go anywhere again. They haven't got to left their house yet, she
knew she was going to leave that tiny, two bedroom, and one bath house for something worth
looking at. The two decided to take a well–deserved vacation. They had suggested Hawaii, Mexico,
California, Canada, or Virginia Beach. They had many places to choose from, but Virginia Beach
was the chosen one. It is special because they have never left their house, not once. Mary and Bobby

only drove when the traffic was going as fast as turtles because she don't like the interstate. It's not
that she don't trust herself, but she doesn't trust the other people on the road with her. When they

Fox News And Its Impact On American Culture
Fox News was created by Australian–born American media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who hired
Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. The channel was launched on October 7, 1996 to 17 million cable

Murdoch thought it would be a good idea to expand his presence in the American television market.
Fox news was created to capture the stories of America and other countries all around the world.

Introducing America 's New Family
Introducing America's New Family: The Bundy's American television today has drastically changed
from the first appearance of the television in the 1920s. Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms
poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and
even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted
America's heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an "ideal and acceptable" family consisted of a
generous working class father, an accommodating and good–natured mother, and a few respectful
children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families
without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass
communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families
to appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the
cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows
Best standard of television with shows such as 'Father Knows Best" and "I Love Lucy." Well, fast
forward 30 years, and in came the Bundy's. The Bundy's were television's first dysfunctional, on
screen family to undermine the idea that an ideal family must function perfectly all the time.
Married with Children reminded us that it was ok to not conform to society's cultural norms.

the attitude of today which is purchase now and pay it off later. By using credit to purchase

Stereotypes Of Media Bias
Media Bias Turn on CNN or Fox and Bias pounds you over the head. They each have their own
talking heads or political correspondents to decry their " expert opinions". Since the advent of the 24

News became less of a journalistic report of the facts about what was happening in the world and
more about infotainment, it became more biased when Fox news came along and all of the other
stations. Media has always been slightly biased according to the owner or publisher of the journal or
the media source. The target audience of Fox news is a very conservative group, the aim is to entice
them to be infuriated by the opinion of the host and guest. Occasionally a bit of truth is broadcast..

Analysis, Evaluation, And Synthesis
The theme of this paper is expanding the analysis, evaluation, and synthesis to provide the best
solution for the disaster recovery issue through identification of the issue's scope, scale, effect, and
so forth, considering various company organization structures. The overriding critical IT issue
facing the Fox Television network and cable affiliates is disaster recovery. The result of a natural
disaster may halt network operations, which will result in a revenue shortfall for outage duration.
Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to

The Search For Truth In Bernie Goldberg's Bias
Often times people utilize certain sources and watch certain news channels because these viewers
can relate to the views on these sources. It can make one believe that his/her perspective is correct
simply because that is what the new source is providing. Viewers watch news sources that share the
same opinions as their own, because these viewers are just as bias as the sources; these viewers
favor one side, as do the news sources. John Stossel, a Fox News reporter discusses the book "Bias"
with author Bernie Goldberg, an ex CBS News reporter. John expected for ABC to read the book
and disagree with Bernie on the ABC news channel (Goldberg and Stossel). However, these people
were proud of not reading the book and gave it no attention. Even if one does not agree with a

The point of it all, in addition to understanding the detrimental effects that corporate actions can

level of power and control over multiple aspects of our society. Not only do products sold, economic

that corporations play in deliberately shaping how people think through media, research, and

According to Jane Akre, a member of the Monsanto investigative team who was interviewed for The
Corporation, Monsanto demanded that Fox reedit the report multiple times, reaching up to 83

refused to trash the report, intending to expose the health risks posed by rBGH and protect the

The broader implications of this single case are terrifying. The first and foremost among them is that

Representation Of The Hollywood Television Industry
Representation Matters: Diversity in the Hollywood Television Industry A recent study done by the
UCLA Bunche Center for African American Studies showed the lack of diversity within Hollywood
by examining all the films released, television programs on broadcast, cable, or digital networks, as
well as the actors, writers, directors, and producers within the industry. Ethnic minorities make up
about 40% of the American population but still remain underrepresented in all forms of
entertainment. The study also discovered that more than 50% of moviegoers in the past two years
were minorities. In television, minorities only claimed about 7% of lead roles in broadcast television
("NEW! 2015 Hollywood Diversity Report"). With half the American population consisting of
different ethnicities, American television should accurately and proportionately portray the
American people, yet some are having trouble doing so. Some television networks have catered to
their diverse audience by casting actors of different ethnicities as the lead of a show, or by centering
an entire show around a unique culture. Most have found this to be beneficial with an increase in
ratings and in profits through their sponsors. The organizations, the Florida Family Association
(FFA) and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) represent two different positions on
diversity within Hollywood and how the American people should be portrayed in the television
industry. The FFA is a national organization

Bias in the Media Essay
Everyday millions of Americans plop down in front of their TVs to get their daily intake of news
and current events of what happened that day. Sadly, most of the news and facts they are getting
have been altered somehow by someone at the news corporation or by the reporters themselves. In
the numerous news sources that cover world evens daily there are certain viewpoints that are thrust
into the public's face. This highly opinionated and biased news coverage has been present since
there was news to report on. From WWII and onwards there has been a steady increase in the
number of news corporations, which in turn has caused an increase in viewpoints on news coverage.

Bias in reporter's stories can be created a couple different ways. One of those possibilities is that
information is fabricated to reflect a news corporation's viewpoint as well as the bias they normally
present. The second is the fact that "a journalist can include in their story quotations from advocated
of particular perspective"(David Baron 4). By quoting these people in their stories journalist and
reporters all the advocates to "present their perspectives, make assertions and allegations, draw
conclusions, and argue for particular actions"(Baron 4). The public is also able to diagnose the root
causes of media bias in two forms. The first is, "bias is a lack of dispassion and impartiality that
colors the decision of whether or not to publish a story"(Baron 6). Secondly, they see bias as "an
intent to persuade" (Baron 6).
Media bias could have a variety of sources. Bias could reflect the preferences or worldview of the
owner and reporters of any news corporation. In the US, major news organizations are owned by
corporations and in some cases are run by the government. The American Society of News Editors

This is where bias and group thinking comes in. In the video Dealing with the Media Goldberg
states that when a group of people have similar thinking that is called group thinking. He is right
about group thinking being a group of people thinking alike but group thinking also overrule the
individual. Goldberg quotes " That is the problem... to many like minded people making the
decisions on what the audience and the readers get to read and see". Group thinking is a big cause
why there is bias in the media according to Goldberg. For group thinking rules over individual
thinking and shouts out what the individuals have to say. News are told though what the group

Plake 2004:15ff). At about the same time the Scotsman John Logie Baird used the telephone net to
transmit pictures from London to Glasgow and invented cable TV. This new transmitting method
improved the quality of reception and even live transmission was possible (cf. Plake 2004:15).
In 1940 there were already twenty seven TV stations operating in the United States, but during the
second World War the development of the television market slowed down. The increasing lack of
money and staff resulted in the shutdown of several TV stations and also the sale of TV sets went
down. But after the war the economy recovered and an enormous television boom followed. In 1951
first colour TV sets were placed on the market and in 1960 there were already more than five
hundred TV programs and 95% of them belonged to three major networks: NBC, CBS and ABC.
Many local TV stations which tried to remain independent, were finally edged out of the TV market
(cf. Plake 2004:18ff).
In cooperation with Europe, US television conglomerations invested millions of dollars in the
development of a worldwide TV network via satellite and cable. So television was no longer bound

goldfish implanted with the consciousness of an East German named Klaus Heissler and an alien
escaped from Area 51 in Nevada named Roger. While politically satirical and sometimes dark,
American Dad! still manages to highlight the Smith's commitment to family values and a Christian
Worldview.
To illustrate how American Dad! showcases family values, one must ... Show more content on

Stan's daughter Haley, however, is an ultra–liberal Democrat, much to the chagrin of Stan. Although
many of the show's jokes and plotlines revolve around the friction caused between Stan and Haley's
contrasting political views, moral lessons revealed at the end of each of these episodes will often
feature the two reconciling their differences while acknowledging their love for one another,
something that the Christian family model very much advocates.
Stan's differences with another family member are not so different. Many episodes focus on Stan's
views of his son, Steve, who is nothing like Stan was when he was his age. Socially awkward and
nonathletic, Stan's worries that his son will not turn out just like him are a reoccurring theme in the
show's storyline. For all Stan's worries the two have a very strong father/son relationship, something
that is also a key foundation in Christian family values.
The married life of Francine and Stan are that of prototypical Christian Americans. They are very
much in love with one another but have their differences on occasion. They credit the success of
their marriage to their love for one another and their ability to solve these differences. They usually
project a unified front when confronting the children on varying issues. They also take their family
to church every Sunday as the family is identified as Episcopalian Christians in several episodes.
American Dad! has been a

Argumentative Essay On Fake News
Fake news is news that does not tell the entire truth about a story or reports it wrong or simply lies.
Fake news could also be reporting news and commentary indistinctly, and not make a clear enough
distinction between the two. Alternative facts is another branch of the fake news tree. What exactly
is alternative facts? No one is sure what these two words mean, so confusion was widespread, when
an advisor to the president stated it in reference to the president's crowd at the inauguration. CQR
mentions this sort of debacle again when an aide is outed for giving the president a cover for a
magazine which mentions an ice age that was fake, instead of global warming. The aide justified
said actions by arguing that it was "fake, but true." Media trust is an issue today because, many of
news sources have political affiliations and commitments to political organizations. Also the people
who finance these are devoted or interested which may lead to inaccurate reporting. Also, some
news companies are obsessed with pushing a certain narrative to its viewers in order to further their
party's reach. This a huge problem, because some of the places we look to being informed are
actually just trying to change your mind politically rather than report unbiased facts. When you take
a look at certain news sites, you normally see negative things painted in a normal light, or as less
evil, in reference to the site's interests. Essentially it is given a spin, towards the news' preferred

Negative Essay On Fake News
Thapa4 Anuka Thapa Professor Sherry Sharifian Government 2305 11/29/2017 Fake News the hot
topic The word fake itself sounds very counterfeit. Fake means something that is not genuine or
something claiming to be something that one is not. News is something newly received information,
especially about recent events from all over. News is the summarization of the events that takes

democracy and even to the individuals. In this 21st century, there is the huge competition almost in
every sector. In the same way, there are many social Medias that have been gradually developing.
Yes, we can notice that some of them are truly dedicated in public and trying to give best by doing
constructional works. Meanwhile, there are so many fake cites which motto is to fool people and
take advantages of them. It is very important for us to figure out the real ones and fakes ones. Easy
access to online and social media has make people life easier. People today's are totally depend on
social media for any kind of news and they are most trustworthy towards those news. Unfortunately
among much trustworthy news there is some news that is fake. With the increase of the followers of
social media it is becoming more difficult for people to distinguish between real and fake news. If I
were had to help someone spot "Fake News" I would have tell them to read the whole news
carefully beyond the headline. I also

Tilting Right, TV News Analysis

  • 1. Tilting Right, TV News Analysis An article in the New York Times was featured on the front page of the May 13, 2017 edition. The article, titled "Tilting Right, TV News Titan Roils Its Staff," features a small statistic on the front page portion of the text, stating that the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, owner of many television stations in the US reportedly uses its stations to spew right–wing conspiracy theories and reports, apparently reaching 70% of American households. While this statistic seems frightening at first sight, it may be misleading, as it does not information about certain factors, thereby bringing its validity into question. The New York Times is widely considered to be a more liberal leaning media source, and considering this political perspective is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article continues to explain the growing concern among journalists about Sinclair's actions, thereby continuing on the path of creating fear amongst readers. While there is truth to fear about the situation, the level of concern being created is more than it should be, possible misleading some readers into fearing right wing indoctrination or right wing political takeovers, as liberal audiences of the New York Times may be more willing to believe. The 70% statistic used does not account for the fact that not all people who have access to the TV stations will actually watch them. It is unlikely that all these people will actually view these right wing segments on a day to day basis, as the article leads one to believe. The statistic does not account for people who do not use their televisions on a daily basis, or do not actually watch the stations screening the right wing stories. Te 70% does not account for the proportion of television stations viewers have access to to the number of stations that have these segments. For example, the article mentions that Sinclair Broadcasting Group owns around 200 TV stations. While this is a sizable amount, many television plans have over one thousand stations, and many viewers may not even look at these 200 stations. The article also does not mention whether all 200 stations are featured on all of these 70% of households. It is very possible that many television sets of this 70% of household may only include 10 Sinclair stations. This would mean that the probability of coming across one of these stations is even smaller, but those 10 stations would still count as reaching an American household, going towards the 70% ... • 3. Liberal Media Bias Anyone paying attention to the 2016 election cycle is aware of latest accusations hurled by the Republican candidates against CNBC and their "mishandling" of the Republican debate. This recent outrage against the network is a product of the deeply rooted sentiment among Republicans in particular that there is a giant liberal news media bias working to further the agenda of the Democratic Party. Presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio, said that the media was a super PAC for Hillary Clinton and Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee chairman, said, "CNBC should be ashamed of how this debate was handled" (CNN). If this theory were true, then the odds would be stacked in the Democratic Party's favor and there may be cause for legitimate concern. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using a "common understanding" of what liberal and conservatism means, National Review and the Progressive were chosen to be the standard of conservative and liberal media. Time and Newsweek were considered to be largely more neutral in their coverage. So, by comparing the two neutral magazines to the two partisan magazines the amount of bias could be measured (Adkins). The results found that Time and Newsweek proved to be largely centrist; however, there was a slight bias to the center–left. This finding, however, was not statistically significant and the two publications remain in the "center" range (Adkins). Other studies have shown that there is little evidence to support the notion that the media as a whole is significantly biased in one direction or the other. However, there is evidence that there is a slight liberal bias in television network news (D'Alessio). Despite these findings, 70% of Americans believe that the media as a whole are biased compared to just 55% in 2014. However, earlier findings and studies show that on a large scale there is roughly a balance between conservative and liberal media sources which refutes the idea that as a whole the media are "biased". Instead, it is more akin to a "tug–of–war" in which each side balances each other out. So this leads to the question as to why a greater number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well than that news station must be biased. When a news station is biased they show favoritism towards a party, religion, cause, etc. When people are biased they alter the minds of the people. Our society runs on respect so when news stations are biased they affect our community in bad ways.Although when they use certain techniques and are honest they help our society run . In the news the anchors and writers disrespect the citizens by altering facts or avoiding certain topics. In an article Brent Bozell states"That the media was hounding Mitt Romney while letting President Obama of the hook." (Bonzell,2014) This shows disrespect because they are in favor of Obama so they go soft, and on the other hand they do not like Romney so the try to make him look bad to lose the election. With the media making Romney look bad they are not being polite to the people and Romney. If they change enough people's minds they will alter the outcome of the election, which is way worse because that will affect our society for many years. Anonymous Is An International Organization Anonymous is an international organization complied of like–minded individuals sharing an extensive knowledge of computation and systematic software (German, 2012). In short, they are hacking activists; people wanting social change who protest by revealing hidden truths. It is known to operate on ideas rather than directions meaning that the individuals involved do not wait for instruction or approval of a task. They do however, have a loosely agreed upon goal– for there is order. There is no granted membership. If one believes to be Anonymous, they are. The self– proclaimed members operate in response to events and scandals and expose what people in power try to conceal. With many operating as one, Anonymous is bringing social justice to corrupt organizations who disguise situations and refuse to meet the needs of the abject population. Through their website, the displayed messages are addressed to the citizens of the earth. This is a form of internet activism that engages and promotes their ideas. Anonymous seeks to make the world better. In "Anonymous– Message to Citizens of the World IV" an idea and goal they have is "to create a legitimate and parallel economy that replaces the existing one". Tim Dickinson, the author of "How Roger Ailes Built the Fox News Fear Factory The onetime Nixon operative has created the most profitable propaganda machine in history. Dickinson, in criticism of Fox News, quotes Roger Ailes, the founder of the news network by saying that "Forget all the facts and figures, and move to the offense as quickly as possible" would serve as a more appropriate slogan. • 11. Media Bias In The Media Everyone has a bias, which is good. Everyone is entitled to think what they want. However, it is not good for our media outlets to have bias when they are suppose to be the ones who inform the public on recent issues. News is suppose to be trustworthy non partisan information, instead it is just platforms for political parties and other groups to push their policies and further their agendas. A recent example would be the Texas church shooting. Fox News, Chicago Tribune and NYTimes are all good examples. They all covered the same exact story, but portrayed it in different lights. Media bias is most explicit in a article's headline, word choice and imagery. FOX's article is a subtle attempt to try and redirect the conversation from gun control, which is usually where it goes after a mass shooting. The headline of this article reads "Texas church shooter Devin Patrick Kelley served in Air Force, was court–martialed for assaulting wife, child". This headline points out that he served in the Air Force and was arrested for assaulting his wife and child. Even though this information is necessary in seeing what type of person the shooter was, it is unrelated to the shooting. The goal of this headline is to try and villainize the shooter even more. The next paragraph goes on to describe Kelley as "heavily medicated and someone who kept to himself –– despite a deluge of posts on his apparent Facebook profile about weapons and atheism." • 13. The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment Fox News: The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment Consumers now have access to more information than in any other point in history, and are being subjected to partisan news on a larger scale than ever before. Partisan news outlets, such as Fox News and MSNBC tailor their broadcasts to appeal to the confirmation bias of their target audiences. Each network not only chooses which stories to run based on the interest of their target demographic, but also frames the facts in a way that leads consumers to believe that their own beliefs, however factual, are correct, which aligns with a scientific principle known as confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is the tendency for people to seek out information that aligns with their beliefs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 198) Before the shift to bias or partisan news, the U.S. was brought together by World War II. Many people received their information only by newspaper or radio and there was a sense of pride knowing that journalists were sharing truthful information with the public. Thussu (1998) said that it is a journalists duty to explain the information they were providing and not "indulge in cheap 'event journalism.' "It was never good enough to throw our hands up in horror that people were dying ... We had to work out why – to chase the story back to its roots, and write about its origins fearlessly, even if it turned out that the ultimate beneficiary of the people's suffering was a politician or a proprietor who had power over your own livelihood, or even your own life. A journalist's right to investigate was not God–given: it was earned by playing one's part responsibly in guarding the values of human society." In the late 1950s and into the 1960s responsibility played a large role in how news was distributed. Three television networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, were among the outlets with formally trained news anchors who brought forth a sense of unity in the country. But, as the years progressed and people began to develop special interests, the ways news was relayed transformed (Turow, 1997, p. 40). • 17. Analysis Of The Article ' Gop Fox Circus Act ' By Reed... In the article "GOP–Fox Circus Act", Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other's agendas because of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP's reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox's reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. • 19. Examples Of Ethical Issues In News Ethical issues are situations which have positive and negative effects. TV news programmes try to be as objective, fair and accurate when presenting their stories to the public but what does it actually mean. Objectivity means not being bias, judgemental or prejudice when presenting the news. Fairness means that the information is free from discrimination while accuracy means the facts are true and free from error. In other words, the news stories that reporters make should not have personal opinions towards an issue. This is so that the news stories, that are shown to the public, are neutral and unbiased. We become more and more civilized that our way of life must change to match the changes in our world. One of the most common changes that have hit our today's society is media. Media has penetrated through all barriers including our war fronts and areas where man never thought to have penetrated. As media develops through the years and technology expands more media outlets open and so the society has and continues to move away from the mainstream media (CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, ABC, etc.) to local media and different websites to get their news. The trust society had in Television and the mainstream media to provide true and uncontaminated reports has faded and therefore society is moving away from these to where they believe they can get news first hand. In this paper, I will attempt to explain why in today 's media many people don 't just rely on the major networks but go online for news (Local, National, and Global). Could this be splintering our views and causing more anger? Should it be regulated? I will also attempt to express my opinion on what the business of news is becoming in the next ten years. • 23. Examples Of Nature Faker In The Call Of The Wild Do you ever hear of nature fakers? A nature faker is a writer or author that gives animals or living things, from the wild, human characteristics and personifies them. In Jack London's novel, "The Call of the Wild", he writes about a really tough and confident dog who thrives in nature. For his writing in "The Call of the Wild", many people accuse Jack London of being a nature faker. Jack London is a magnificent and amazing writer who knows a lot about the wild, therefore he isn't a nature faker. First, one reason that he is not a nature faker is because he gives the animals more animal–like characteristics than he does human–like. One example of this is when Buck and Spitz are constantly fighting and are always biting each other's necks, which humans would never do. In the novel it states, "Buck did not cry out. He did not check himself but rove in upon Spitz, shoulder to shoulder so hard that he missed the throat...,"(London 38). This shows how aggressive he makes the animals. One example is when Buck gets tired after too much pulling with his owner, but he still pushes through like a wild animal, and he thrives through it, he doesn't stop for some tea. One quote from the novel is, "the wound–stiffened team was under way, struggling painfully over the hardest part of the trail they had yet encountered, and for that matter, the hardest between them and Dawson...," (London 17). I kept a tally of characters that were shown on the job or made any reference to their jobs. The last claim I chose to analyze was that men on television are rarely shown doing housework (one to three percent compared to twenty to twenty–seven percent of women). The reality however, is that U.S. personnel are sitting in an adjacent room waiting to receive the information extracted from the NSA. The U.S. is able to receive the information necessary to protect its country without "getting its hands dirty." Many will argue that the U.S. is still, to an extent, accountable for torturing a man. The ticking time bomb scenario, poses the question of whether a government is justified to torture a terrorist in order to extract information on a time sensitive bomb, that will kill many lives. The creators use Dershowitz's reasoning to justify the United States' involvement. Because time is scarce and American lives were in danger the U.S. is justified to torturing the suspect. The creators of the show however are significantly clever because they depict the scene so that no American is physically involved in the torturing process. Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted America's heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an "ideal and acceptable" family consisted of a generous working class father, an accommodating and good–natured mother, and a few respectful children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families to appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows Best standard of television with shows such as 'Father Knows Best" and "I Love Lucy." Well, fast forward 30 years, and in came the Bundy's. The Bundy's were television's first dysfunctional, on screen family to undermine the idea that an ideal family must function perfectly all the time. Married with Children reminded us that it was ok to not conform to society's cultural norms. "...people want to watch a family that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

House Hunters is a strong reflection of society in several ways, the first being our society today is okay with making purchases on debt. The mortgages put up by those who decide to purchase these homes, especially in these episodes reflect the attitude of today which is purchase now and pay it off later. By using credit to purchase something now and pay for it later, we have created a debt society in which we live in today. (Walsh, 1) House Hunters and HGTV didn't hesitate to respond to this though, rather they confirmed that the searching was staged telling EW that the, "pursuit of a perfect home involves big decisions that usually take place over a prolonged period of time–more time than we can capture in 30 minutes of television." Analysis, Evaluation, And Synthesis The theme of this paper is expanding the analysis, evaluation, and synthesis to provide the best solution for the disaster recovery issue through identification of the issue's scope, scale, effect, and so forth, considering various company organization structures. The overriding critical IT issue facing the Fox Television network and cable affiliates is disaster recovery. The result of a natural disaster may halt network operations, which will result in a revenue shortfall for outage duration. Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to traditional IT components. It can make one believe that his/her perspective is correct simply because that is what the new source is providing. Viewers watch news sources that share the same opinions as their own, because these viewers are just as bias as the sources; these viewers favor one side, as do the news sources. John Stossel, a Fox News reporter discusses the book "Bias" with author Bernie Goldberg, an ex CBS News reporter. John expected for ABC to read the book and disagree with Bernie on the ABC news channel (Goldberg and Stossel). However, these people were proud of not reading the book and gave it no attention. The point of it all, in addition to understanding the detrimental effects that corporate actions can have on human health and the environment, is the realization that corporations have a frightening level of power and control over multiple aspects of our society. Not only do products sold, economic presence, and a high volume of jobs provided by corporations affect how we live, but the active role that corporations play in deliberately shaping how people think through media, research, and political lobbying raises questions of how far we are willing to let them go. Undaunted, Akre went to the Florida court, citing wrongful termination and using an exchange between her and a senior editor as evidence that she should obtain whistleblower status, forcing both Fox and Monsanto to concede to her demands. Surprisingly, after an appeal from Monsanto, the court threw the case out, stating that obfuscating the truth was not strictly an illegal action under state and federal law. • 65. Representation Of The Hollywood Television Industry Representation Matters: Diversity in the Hollywood Television Industry A recent study done by the UCLA Bunche Center for African American Studies showed the lack of diversity within Hollywood by examining all the films released, television programs on broadcast, cable, or digital networks, as well as the actors, writers, directors, and producers within the industry. Ethnic minorities make up about 40% of the American population but still remain underrepresented in all forms of entertainment. The study also discovered that more than 50% of moviegoers in the past two years were minorities. In television, minorities only claimed about 7% of lead roles in broadcast television ("NEW! 2015 Hollywood Diversity Report"). With half the American population consisting of different ethnicities, American television should accurately and proportionately portray the American people, yet some are having trouble doing so. Some television networks have catered to their diverse audience by casting actors of different ethnicities as the lead of a show, or by centering an entire show around a unique culture. Most have found this to be beneficial with an increase in ratings and in profits through their sponsors. By quoting these people in their stories journalist and reporters all the advocates to "present their perspectives, make assertions and allegations, draw conclusions, and argue for particular actions"(Baron 4). The public is also able to diagnose the root causes of media bias in two forms. The first is, "bias is a lack of dispassion and impartiality that colors the decision of whether or not to publish a story"(Baron 6). Secondly, they see bias as "an intent to persuade" (Baron 6). Stan's differences with another family member are not so different. Many episodes focus on Stan's views of his son, Steve, who is nothing like Stan was when he was his age. Socially awkward and nonathletic, Stan's worries that his son will not turn out just like him are a reoccurring theme in the show's storyline. • 76. Argumentative Essay On Fake News Fake news is news that does not tell the entire truth about a story or reports it wrong or simply lies. Fake news could also be reporting news and commentary indistinctly, and not make a clear enough distinction between the two. Alternative facts is another branch of the fake news tree. What exactly is alternative facts? No one is sure what these two words mean, so confusion was widespread, when an advisor to the president stated it in reference to the president's crowd at the inauguration. CQR mentions this sort of debacle again when an aide is outed for giving the president a cover for a magazine which mentions an ice age that was fake, instead of global warming. The aide justified said actions by arguing that it was "fake, but true." Media trust is an issue today because, many of news sources have political affiliations and commitments to political organizations. Also the people who finance these are devoted or interested which may lead to inaccurate reporting. Also, some news companies are obsessed with pushing a certain narrative to its viewers in order to further their party's reach. This a huge problem, because some of the places we look to being informed are actually just trying to change your mind politically rather than report unbiased facts.
