The document discusses the influence of mass media on people's perceptions and understandings. It notes that while people may receive the same message from mass media, they can interpret and understand it differently based on their own experiences and knowledge. Mass media cannot totally control people's decisions and opinions due to these individual differences in comprehension. The document argues that relying too heavily on mass media alone could be dangerous, as people need to think critically about the messages they receive.

We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

The Importance Of Mass Media
1. The Importance Of Mass Media
Everyone's comprehension is different and unique in reality. When a person receives a message from mass media, he tells the message which is from
mass media to another person. These two people understand what does this message means; however, they may have different comprehension of this
message. People can think about each message and analyze a message in a different way because they have their own idea. For example, when
people do a survey for a film, some people may think this film is very good; some people may think it is not very good, and the other people may think
it is a bad film. Hence, people can give their different or same common in the same survey. People cannot judge their idea is right or wrong. In reality,

As Eco says, in reality, people can accept the basic codes, but they have their own idea and understanding about a same message. People cannot totally
trust mass media because of relying on mass media too much could be dangerous. According to Mead (1929: 135) "We do so intimately identify
our experiences, especially our affective experiences, with the self that it takes a moment's abstraction to realize that pain and pleasure can be there
without being the experience of the self," this implies that people have a different understanding of a same message because everyone has different
experiences. People have different experiences because of the obvious regional and cultural differences. For example, people accept different
education, so their knowledge level is different. When two people, which have a different level of knowledge receives a same message from mass
media, they will have different understanding of message. Hence, mess media cannot totally influence people's decisions and outcomes. According to
Pariser (2011:6) "Now you get the result that Google's algorithm suggests is best for you in particular–and

The broad communications has advanced fundamentally after some time. Have you ever considered how the most recent news and data was conveyed
before? All things considered, before there was the Internet, TV, or the radio, there was the daily paper. The daily paper was the first stage for broad
communications. For a drawn out stretch of time, general society depended on authors and writers for the neighborhood daily papers to furnish them
with the most recent news in current occasions.
Hundreds of years after the fact, in the 1890s, came the innovation of the radio. The radio would soon supersede the daily paper as the most germane

3. Mass Media And Technology Essay
It has been said that electronics are taking away the natural development of our children's minds and bodies. That giving them an Iphone, tablet or even
a laptop is somehow destroying their ability to listen or even sit still. An ever increasing amount of today's youth are entering school struggling with
self regulation and attention skills necessary for learning and creative play. Mass media has been found to be potentially harmful in influencing the
health–related behaviors of children and adolescents, many of whom are not yet mature enough to distinguish fantasy from reality, particularly when
it is presented as "real life."Creativity and imagination being stolen with every moment spent disconnected from reality. Are video games and
modern technology really causing children of today to lack imagination and the social skills needed to grow up to be functioning members of
society? Children have four critical factors for healthy development. These four factors are movement, touch, exposure to nature and human
connection. All four are immensely important to balance in order for a child to grow to his or her full potential. With the lack of one or more of
these critical factors, the child could end up lacking what is needed to fully develop mentally and physically. It is said that the growing child is in
need of 2–3 hours of rough and tumble play and most are not getting that in today's everyday hustle and bustle. Their bodies are made for movement

This week we learned about the different types of mass media and the formation of them. We were given insight into how much the media has changed
over time and how it affects our daily lives. Over the course of history, there has been many types of media that have come about. In the last century,
some of the major developments in the evolution of mass media were the newspaper and periodicals, magazines, the radio, television, satellite
technology, 24–hour news stations, and one of the biggest of them all, the Internet. With the creation of the Internet also came social media. Each of

Prior to this development, people had to depend on their imagination or their memories to hold on to certain events or to interpret different messages.
Now we have many different ways to perform photography from cameras to the cell phone devices that most of us have with us at all times. It is also
believed to have improved record–keeping. The radio is another development that was developed within the last century. The radio allows us to reach
a wide audience who have common interests. It is also extremely helpful for individuals or companies who are trying to advertise a product because
of the amount of people who are listening. This makes it easy to speak to the group of people that they are marketing to without actually having to put
up billboard ads or speak to people individually. Then there was the convergence between picture and sound: the television. Television has the power to
unify Americans. Families are able to gather and enjoy music and movies. Both have become a very important part of many people's lives. We depend
on our televisions and radios to broadcast the important information that American's need to know. We depend on our televisions and radios for
entertainment, informative reasons, and to keep up with our interests. Media convergence is the merging of mass communication outlets – print,

industries which control them. Over the years, mass media, has had a profound effect on American society, on its culture, and on the individuals

Finally, our society uses mass communication and media as a form of education via research. Initially, I was unaware of the information I consumed
on a daily basis from varying media sources; however after reviewing my journal of media usage, I became acutely aware of just how influential
media is to my education and understanding of the world. For example, I spend a large amount of time doing research for my homework– from
required research to looking up the meaning of a word or phrase. I am often exposed to hundreds of sites– functioning as informational sources–with a
simple click on a URL or hyperlink. Our culture is influenced through various mediums of media, and educated on various topics including, culture,
opinions, and people. However, we must be cautious of the validity of the information we obtain and use, because the media is constantly attempting
to sway or manipulate public opinion. By keeping a journal of my media usage I was able to better understand how media plays an important role in
my life. I also became more aware of the influence media has on society, and how I can become more cognizant of its notable impacts. In our society
media plays a larger role than most individuals realize. As mass communication and media are constantly evolving it is important that we understand
these changes. Through this deepened awareness I hope to immerse myself in a media culture that is free from manipulation, bias

The technology improvement will be the foundation of the newspaper, books, and articles reaching a mass scale. "For the existence as well as the
organization of every society communication is a fundamental and vital process (Joe Kingsly,The role of mass media in community development,

opened the door for people to self–educate and expand on their paradigm known at the time. For example, religion before the twenty first century was
the highest form of power a person could have. Therefore the people that spread the word of the dominating religion were usually the people that held
the written word. This kept the peoples belief in their hands because that's were the only source to that information was found. The movable type print
developed the resource to expand on the volumes and knowledge that was consumed. The people now had just as much power as others that once had

accessed and waiting for us at the touch of a button. As a result, our culture is enormously influenced by the media. In this essay I will be discussing
the media and deviance and the effects it has on our culture.
One theory that was formed during this investigation was the cumulative effects model [Elisabeth Noelle–Neumann, 1974]. This complex theory looks
at the potential affects media has on an individual with an active media consumption. This theory focuses on the agenda setting function in which the
media acts upon. The media cannot force an individual to think a certain way. However it does have the power to control what the individual thinks
about. If an issue is frequently in the media, the

9. The Mass Medi The Failure Of The Mass Media
The general population consists of seven billion people across the earth. The majority of the individuals partake in receiving knowledge from those
whose job it is to relay pertinent day to day information to the general public. This minority is known as the mass media, and it is much larger than
simply journalism. The mass media is the newspaper, television, Video games, novels, textbooks, and social media. Essentially any medium that is
consumed excessively by the majority public is known as a mass media. The most important of the mass media's is journalism and reporting; the
relaying of information from the reporters to the population. For years, controversy was a serious part of the debate for what could not be shown,
what could be, how far journalists are allowed to go to get their information. Then, the SPJ: Code of Ethics emerged, giving guidelines for journalists
and reporters on how to seize, utilize, and properly report on subjects at hand. However, journalists and reporters time and time again have deserted
their code of conduct. For instance, the New Republic's Stephen Glass did this via bypassing fact checkers and creating fictitious news stories. This
led to the downfall of the New Republic's reputation, along with ending the career of Stephen Glass. Though the exact same is not being done with
reporting politics, their use of power has become an arbitrary system, where they decide what suits their own political standing and showing the

Mass media has been around for decades and it has grown more rapidly as technology advances. It started with telegraphs and eventually turned into
televisions, newspapers, cell phones, magazines, and the internet. The purpose of mass media is to provide news/information, education, and
entertainment. With these purposes, comes the influence of all the information we are exposed to. Most might say that mass media has had a positive
impact on society as it's made communication and information easily accessible for everyone. However, what they're not aware of is the negative
influences it has brought to women's body–image. Because of the media's endless advertisements of what is considered "beautiful" or "perfect", eating

Exercising and dieting used to be emphasized for its health benefits, but nowadays, it's more about the physical attraction it might give you. I
wouldn't consider myself to be anorexic, but what I'm trying to say here is that the media's portrayal of women's bodies has also made me feel as if
the only way I can be considered "beautiful" or "perfect" in this society is to look like the abnormally thin models who are constantly being advertised
on televisions, magazine, and all over the internet. Another thing that I found significant in Bordo's article is when she writes about the influence
that US and Britain TV programs had on women from Fiji. Bordo concludes that before television was introduced, there was no reports of eating
disorders, but when "United States and Britain began broadcasting there, 62 percent of the girls surveyed reported dieting." A country where
"voluptuous" bodies were favored changed immediately as soon as they were exposed to media's perception of a "perfect" body. This part really
emphasized the power of mass media. Not only did they change the perception of women's "perfect" body, but they prompted these women to make a
change in order to be considered perfect. With media constantly plastering photo shopped or airbrushed images of "perfect" models, women continue to
be dissatisfied with their bodies. They continuously compare themselves

development of mass media has had a great influence on one's life, both for the better and for worse. In general, mass media is a means of public
communication reaching a large audience, therefore it is everywhere. The long–term exposure to the media has a tendency to influence how people
behave and think about the world. It is essential to consider the pros and cons of mass media as it plays a ginormous role in shaping people's ideas, and
also a very prominent role in the lives of everyone. This essay will look at the global perspective, before moving on to discuss the influences of

Let's take a look in the case of the passing of Singapore's late founding father. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. In March 2015, Mr. Lee's time passed and the
whole country entered a stage of mourning. While Mr. Lee's contribution to Singapore was highly respectable and he was already known, it did not
take long for others to hear of him through the news and social media. With several netizens using social media to share their grief, it sparked

Introduction The works of journalist is very valid to our lives and it gives us insight to matters that's importance to our lives, our world and their
service gives us access to a safer environment. However, there are many journalists in our day who use the power of media to display their personal
point of views. Media effects research, focuses on the manifestation of the influence that the mass media have on people, institutions, society and
culture. Mass media have been hypothesized to have effects across a broad range contexts . The brand of media professionals has changed
enormously in the last twenty years; journalists today are expressing their point of views more than they did years ago. Media new should provide
informative, inspiring stories without emphasis on their point of views.
Background The shift in the news report brand probable occur due to the culture modifications. The mindsets of the general population are becoming
quite lewdness. Just like any other business arena and model, its supports the need and demands of its consumers. I strongly believe things will
continue to move in a downward spiral in uncommon ways like no other time in history. In 1963, Dallas Radio Station (KLIF) reported a conflicting
story concerning John F. Kennedy's assassination and declared President Kennedy both in critical condition and dead throughout the broadcast. At one
point, a congressman stated he saw Kennedy's lips moving at a normal rate of speed as he was

Women in magazines are usually tall, extremely thin, and their faces are covered in makeup. Women can easily develop insecurities in the way they
look and feel about themselves because of magazines. Women choose to read certain magazines according to their interests. However, their interests
are usually congruent with those of the majority of women or they wouldn't be reading that particular magazine and those magazines wouldn't stay in
business. On the flip side of the sex factor, influences from magazines such as "For Him" magazine and "Maxim" weigh heavily on many men's self
security. These magazines teach men not only how they should look but also how they should view things. An example of this is a macho, semi sexist,
tough guy, bull headed, over confident attitude. These magazines define for men the writer's essence of a real man. Men as a whole atone themselves
to such lifestyles probably out of fear of not living by these structures. Although magazines have a strong influence on the masses they are by no means
the most influential medium there is.
This brings me to television programming and how it impacts out lives. Television is hands down the most influential form of media we have.
Hundreds of millions of people sit down each day to plug themselves into their favorite sitcom or program. Television shows help us not only structure

During this class, the knowledge of mass communication that I have learned has peeked my interest in many different topics that we have studied over
the past month. In particularly, I have begun to gain a deeper understanding of advertising, public relations, and social media. Being an agriculture
communication and leadership major I think that these topics will help me tremendously in all of my future endeavors. COM 160 – Introduction to
Mass Media has really confirmed that I have made the right by switching majors last year. I used to be an agribusiness major up until I realized that
I'm not really in this field to rake in all kinds of money, I mean if that happen it happens, but I genuinely want to help people. The best way that I
have been able to do that has been through agvocating. Don't worry, that is not a typo. It is advocating for agriculture. Growing up in a small rural
town in central Illinois, I was surrounded by agriculture and didn't even realize it because I just thought it was the norm. it wasn't until high school
when I joined the Future Farmers of America (FFA) that I learned that agriculture is not widely known about. One fact that we always talk about is
from a nation study conducted by the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance. The results of their study concluded that 72 percent of consumers know
nothing or very little about farming or ranching. I could not believe this to be true until I participated in Ag Day on the Quad. You might have seen
a day where farm tractors randomly appear on the quad along with a group of students educating fellow students and some professors about general
knowledge of farming and food production. I was asked many questions that day but the one that I will never forget was, sense you're an agriculture
major aren't you just going to be a farmer. The answer was I gave him was no. Then I shared with him all of the different career fields that I could go
into, such as journalism, public relations, electronic media, or technical writing. As my senior year of study approaches, my main interest is in public
relations. This class as well as Com 111 with Jodi has got me thinking more and more that agriculture needs new and younger voices that know how to

INTRODUCTION Mass Media reaches a large part of our audiences today, whether it be from the movies, advertising, the internet, newspapers,
magazines, twitter, you tube, Instagram, Facebook and so forth and because of this it can affect how we think and believe, both personally and as a
society. Today, I will address three specific areas that productmass media channels have been used and has made a difference, either to me personally,
or in society in general.

The second choice is "Empire" a television series that plays weekly. The product mass media channel is, twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and that is
due to people wanting to be a part of the action. Because the networks are creating more shows where you can use your DVR viewing, this can mean
the difference between 100 episodes to 10 for social media.
1.In what way did your example shape, change, or reinforce your own cultural values?
This was a change in my cultural values, Empire has a lot of sexual issues in their episodes and It doesn't portray who or what I stand for, therefore
it made me feel like I must explain myself, or express my values. If you read some of the responses on twitter and face book, it can get nasty and yet,
not all responses are bad, it's just the language they can use on these channels.
2.In what ways do you think they shape, change, or reinforce the cultural values of our society in general.
It's obvious that it has changed how society use to be. When there wasn't anyone of these outlets, society tried to watch what they said, and how they
said it, but now, when you have a channel where you can freely express and show your other side, it has become a welcome mat for a group in
society that doesn't see the wrong in what they say or do.
The third choice is Dancing with the Stars, a show that comes

The focus of this opening section is an examination of different explanations of the relationship between ownership and control of the mass media and,
in order to do this, we need to begin by thinking about how the mass media can be defined. Breaking down the concept of a 'mass media' into its
constituent parts...
A medium is a 'channel of communication' – a means through which people send and receive information. The printed word, for example, is a medium;
when we read a newspaper or magazine, something is communicated to us in some way. Similarly, electronic forms of communication television,

In recent times, for example, we've seen the development of forms of communication (such as mobile phones and email) that don't fit easily (if at all)
into traditional definitions, mainly because they have the capacity to be both:
interpersonal ('one–to–one') communication and
mass ('one–to–many') communication.

In defining the mass media, therefore, we've encountered a problem that, as recently as 25 years ago, wouldn't have been a problem; namely, the
development of computer networks.
Depending on how it's used, for example, email can involve exchanging interpersonal messages with friends and family ('Hi, how are you?') or sending
one message to many thousands, if not millions, of people; customers of on–line retailers, such as Amazon for example, can request email notification

Unrequested mass emailing (or "spam") also comes into this category.
Although peer–to–peer networks involve communication between large numbers of people, a not insignificant feature of these networks is that they
reverse the accepted wisdom about a mass medium in the sense that they represent "many–to–one" communication; large numbers of people effectively

Negative effects of Mass Media for teenagers, The exposure of sex images and excessive portraits of violence in movies and dramas have instilled
negative thoughts and taboos in the mind of these teenagers for they have been consistently getting increased exposure to things which are not suitable
for their age. Thousands of advertisements on junk food, fast food, soft–drink, etc are shown on TV and heard over radio have indirectly lead to the

Women are obsessive with losing weight even if they are not being fat or obese. This is due to the influence of the media in portraying that successful

Life has changed dramatically over the last century because of the progression of media technology. The ones that I will be talking about is radio,
television, computers, and the internet. A radio is one of the major developments. The first radio was broadcasted in 1909 in America. The radio
