Is Female to Male as Nature Is to Culture Essay
Is Female to Male as Nature is to Culture Universally, the status of a woman in a society is secondary to a man's status. On the other hand, there are
societies today that man is subordinate to woman. The treatments and symbolizations of women are diverse and vary from culture to culture. No
cultures are exactly the same. In this critical review of Ortner (1974) "Is Female to Male as Nature Is to Culture" I will attempt to give a summary and
critical analysis on the article. In the beginning of the article Ortner talks about how in China the ideology of Taoism, yin, the female principle, and
yang, the male principle, are supposed to characterize men and women equally. Looking at the social structure of the Chinese society the... Show more

Low level cultural activities are more associated with women. At the end of the article, Ortner said, "Women is not 'in reality' any closer to (or further
from nature) nature than man – both have consciousness, both are mortal (Ortner, 1974: 367)." Both men and women are equally as much like nature,
but there are ways why women appear that way. Who would have thought someone would devote their time into studying how males and females are
observed and treated and compared to the way that society would act towards nature and culture? After all, Ortner's arguments seemed to make sense!
I feel that her arguments are not sufficient enough to prove why women are much closer to nature than men. To help prove her arguments; she must
give all types of evidences from any single society, but not from different societies. Ortner only points out how women are much closer to nature and
how men are more associated with culture activities, but lacks to point out or give sufficient examples of how women can be more associated with
"culture" activities and how men can be associated with "natural" activities. I feel that her writing has a hint of racism toward males. Whether having
her writing balanced out, she mostly concentrates on how women appears closer to nature and talks more about females than of males. Like many
authors, Ortner writes within a historical and political context. Ortner's choice of level follows from her structuralist theoretical position (Ortner, 1974:

Male Friendships : Female Friendships
Female vs Male Friendships
Although friendships in general form for the same reasons of support and companionship, we are able to discern certain differences between male and
female friendships. While one is more casual, the other is intimate and personal. Male friendships are laid–back, they have less drama and more fun.
However, in most cases they lack communication because of prideful barriers. Male friendships tend to include team membership, jokes and insults,
and three or more friends, not just two. In contrast female friendships have physical closeness, one–on–one communication, a certain openness, a sense
of attachment. Female friendships are thought to be closer because women like to share their deepest, darkest feelings and engage in more one–on–one
discussions. But, male friendships are seen as more stable because men view their friendship as a team, and work together to keep the relationship afloat.
One of the main differences is that females have a stronger emotional attachment to each other. They reveal more things, share secrets, and get on a
more personal level. Men tend to avoid anything dealing with emotions, heart–to–heart talks. Instead they bond on a simpler standard. An emotional
moment can happen every day for women, and every month for men. When men fight, they 'll fight about it and then act as if it never happened. But
when women fight, it will go on as long as they let it. They can prolong a fight for as long as weeks and keep grudges for

Male And Female Or Man And Woman
Introduction:
Male and female or man and woman, are terms that are used to show different genders. Apart from the physical differences, each gender, according
to our social definition, have different roles. Generally, men have the more masculine, more physical, roles, while women tend to do better in the
nurturing, care taking, tasks. These roles have become norms that have been set by the society. It is expected of men to be working at all times,
they are expected to be the bread winners, while women are expected to take care of home tasks, such as raising the children or cooking. These
norms might alternate in some cases, but most people would agree on these as being the standards. In our Vicks ad " When They Breath Easier, So
You Can", a man is shown to be taking care of what appears to be his child, which is opposite of what we believe to be the norms.
Target Audience:
This ad could be targeting either gender. However, the fact that it is showing a male doing the nurturing role must have a reason behind it. As we
notice in the bottom right corner of the ad there is an NFL, National Football League, logo. In addition to the logo, it says that Vicks is the official
sponsor of NFL. Now it becomes clear that this ad is meant to target football fans, as it is specifically produced to be shown at the NFL. It is
generally known that a sport such as football is more popular within males, much more than females. Such a product, like Vicks VapoRub, is known to

Difference Between Male And Females
In this naturalistic observation study I looked at the differences between male and females regarding their actions upon greeting another person. I
looked at the frequency in which they hugged or performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information was used to
find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The variable of interest in this experiment are gender and the action
upon greeting.Gender is conceptually defined as the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather
than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined as what both males and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with
someone of familiarity. My hypothesis for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more often than guys.
In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from intervening I recorder data a distance away from the
main trafficked area of greeting. This was so my actions or presence would not prohibit the sample population from proceeding with their natural
behavior. My sampling location was only at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. The time sampling used was an hour from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. When
choosing my sample population I chose people greeting around the ground floor entrance to the library that were in eyesight of my data recording
position. The sample population in this

Male And Female Communication
"Men Are from Mars and Women Are from Venus", is a true statement.
Male and Female communication styles are totally different. Men and women appear to be from two different planets. How does communication and
culture affect how you communication? I agree, that cultural communication is taught different based on gender? Yes, Females are taught at a very
young age to be great listeners and pay close attention to detail. Males on the other hand or taught to leave all the detail stuff to the women. Both way

Women do use metamessages when communication with men. Our cultures do affect are future communication in our long term relationships.
Women, I must concur assume that if they are in a long term relationships the man should know all about them. The man should know what they like
and do not like. Women in long term relationships know all about the man. They know their favorite food, favorite color and their like and dislikes.
Men, from my experiences do not like a lot of communication– talking in other words. Women on the other hand enjoys communication and I agree
that Deborah Tannen statement, "Being understood without saying what you mean gives a payoff in involvement, and that is why women value it so
highly". This is exactly what women really want in relationships with men. Women value men who can know exactly what they are thinking without
saying a word. Metamessages as described in this reading excerpt as an indirect way of communicating. Metamessages are what women use as a form
of communication to resolve conflict or to solve every day dilemmas in relationships with men. One

The Disparity Between The Achievements Of Males And Females
The disparity between the achievements of males and females has been a concerning issue in education since the day girls were required to go to
school. Ideally, as a whole, students belonging to either gender should perform equally well in their studies, but rarely has that ever happened. Boys
traditionally performed better than their female peers because it was once normal for them to receive an education while girls stayed at home. Recently,
however, a different trend has occurred in gender achievement. On average, "In high school, girls get higher grades in every subject, usually by about a
quarter of a point, and have a higher median class rank" (Brooks 410). This sudden shift has prompted many concerned parents to wonder whether
school curriculums have been recently designed to interest girls, while ignoring what boys like in the process. Although it is easy to blame the public
school system for catering to girls, they are not the immediate problem; the expectation for boys to pursue certain interests is the reason for the
achievement gap. At a young age, many children are taught potentially damaging beliefs about what they should like and how they should act.
Typically, baby girls are given pink clothes, while baby boys are given blue clothes. This all happens before they form their own opinions of their
favorite color. After that, whether from family or peers, they are conditioned either consciously or subconsciously on what topics should interest them.

Differences between the Human Male and Female
Differences between male and female have long been recognized and investigated to serve as a mean to distinguish between the two sexes. Although
the disparities is undeniable, factors that cause these differences are still a controversial topic as to whether they are caused by biologically or
because of the social perception placed on the two genders. In this paper, I will try to analyze the differences between male and female in: physical
strength, cognitive ability, communication and mating and suggest some daily and administrative application of these dissimilarities.
Physical strength is among the most visible differences between sexes, which is mainly caused by biological factors rather than social ones. Male and
female are dissimilar in appearance, athletic ability and longevity. Sex hormones account for most of the differences in appearance (breasts and wider
hips in women) and athletic ability. Research show that testosterone gives men the ability to build larger muscles and larger hearts. It also supports
the production of red blood cells, which increase the absorption of oxygen and provide men with an even greater athletic advantage. Another causal
factor is related to the importance of the X chromosome, of which women have two while men have only one. A research at Stanford University in
1985 showed that there is a gene important to DNA repair on the X chromosome. Because women have two X chromosomes, if she has an abnormal
gene on one, her body can still use the

The Balance Of Equality Between Male And Females
The Balance of Equality between Male and Females In every religion, male and females have different statuses. Although, we are taught to treat
everyone with equal respect, some religions fail to acknowledge that every person, whether male or female are a creation of God. Ideally, God has
created man and women for different purposes. There are also many rules and regulations listed for both genders, which bring up the differences and
helps us identify the importance of both in this world. Even in today's time we see that females struggle with wages. Some people think that living in
the 21st century means that everything is well balanced and everyone is treated equally. However, even in today's time there is a division between

Males have a duty of working hard enough to be able to fulfill the necessities of his family whereas; Women are responsible to nurture her children
and give full divided attention to both children and husband. Thus, they both are obligated to take over the responsibilities equally and help each
other out. In every religion, males have a higher position because they are created to protect women's. Even though both have almost the same
aspect and reason/ purpose in this world, they both are very unlikely to be understanding of each other's perspective since they think of themselves
as more superior. Also, both of the sexes are emotionally different; girls have a very detailed brain while males have a general brain, which thinks
straight forward. We like to hold on to arguments and thing where men's don't try looking at things. Both women and male are given a different
name in each religion. In Islam, women carries paradise under her feet when she becomes a rightful mother due to the pain she experiences during
her labor. A men is required to treat his wife with the same manner he would treat his children's. However, on the other hand, God indicated in the
sacred book that if he was to wish a women to bow down someone after God, it was surely to be her husband. A men in Islam, is allowed to have 4
wives while a women can only get married to one. Furthermore, if a man decides to have 4 wives, he is required to provide separate living

The Female Model Of The Male Model
The male model is also portrayed as in control because he handles the horse reins with a firm, tight grip while the female model's hand is shown as
controlled by her environment. Goffman described male hands as "firm and bold", molding to the items they hold as if having control (Jhally Codes of
Gender). The strong, firm grip of the male's left hand on the horse reins suggests that the male model is in control of the horse; the horse depicts
obedience to the male because the male model controls all the power. Another aspect of the male's dominance is shown through his calmness. He is
situated on the horse sitting up straight and relaxed, yet prepared for any change or danger that appears in the environment. In contrast to the male
hands, the positioning of the female model's hand depicts that she is not in control of her surroundings. In the video documentary, Goffman stated
female's hands are controlled by the environment; not the environment controlled by them (Jhally Codes of Gender). The female model gently rests her
hand on the horse's neck; she does not hold onto the reins suggesting that she is passive and not in control of the horse. The female hands are also
shown as not controlling, but rather just simply there (Jhally Codes of Gender). The placement of her hand portrays that the horse is free to roam,
resulting in controlling where their destination is instead of the woman manipulating the horse to where her destination is. Her hand depicts that she is

Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female
Antonio Gramsci's hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been occurring since the beginning of time. It is where a
dominant force exerts its influence in society and exert their own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of male
over female. Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is masculine and what is not. With hegemony, here will be
always an opposing force that plans a strategy in order to combat and defeat their adversary. Homosexuality is often depicted as inferiority.
Heterosexual men see homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their masculinity by very specific set of behavior, habits and
activities acting strong, being involved in sports and becoming engineer or doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these characteristics
is viewed as "effeminate". A young man like the actor in the movie who does not engage in vigorous sports but is interested in theater and poetry
and shows sensitivity is perceived as being a "Sister Boy" a code word for as being "Gay". This is a hint that a lack of what society perceives as
masculinity is linked to homosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to people of their gender. Homosexuals are usually human beings very aware of
their gender, their masculinity or femininity while being attracted to members of the same sex or gender. In the movie, this very sensitive and
apparently fragile young man falls in love with an older

Female Relationships Between Female And Male Conversations

ways. But one thing they share among each other is their friendship. Such Conversations, Activities and personalities are displayed differently between
male and females. It is evident that female and male conversations differ from each other. Females can hold a conversation on the phone for hours and
not run out of things to say, beginning from gossip, to chattering about crushes, then on continuing to compliment each other for supportive reasons,
later comes down to being called the word "Thick". Females sometimes don't realize how much we need us women in each other's life. For instance, we
require each other for support, love, and the basic everyday drama which include going through menstrual cycles that men naturally can't comprehend.
On the other hand, males can barely last an hour when holding a conversation on the phone. Male conversations are usually more of a straight forward
approach, they say what they discuss what they need to discuss and dismiss the conversation. Money, sex, drugs, and not to mention sports of all things
is usually the topic on a day–to–day basis as I've grown up all my life in a male household. Males tend not to get too emotional when they converse
with other males, however when having conversations with females, they can conversate for hours and hours. Both male and female have the

I am researching the effects discrimination in the workplace have on females vs. males to find out why males get treated with a higher amount of
respect than females. My readers will learn to understand the impact gender differences plays in our everyday lives. The society that we have emerged
ourselves within have become so judgmental that equality seems to get ignored. Many individuals believe that equality doesn't exist anymore within
our nation. Yes, it may be true that some men are bigger, muscular, and hostile than the average woman. However, it is also considered that women

Why are men more likely to make higher wages than women workers?
Why do most jobs prefer a man worker over a female worker?
How can pregnant female workers be qualified for a decent job?
Do men and female workers get treated equally when it comes to receiving a promotion?
How is discrimination effecting female workers?
3.Discussion:
Discrimination in the workplace amongst females and males have stimulated under control within our nation. The negativity amongst gender has
affected job population and achievement. Gender equality is so important that in the Workplace Gender Act took place. This act was passed to ensure
that jobs promoted gender equality. The Gender Equality Act also eliminates discriminating issues related to job matters. The other important factor
this act did was support equal participation in the workplace. The research has proven that all women workers should be treated equally no matter the
condition. Research will also cover the evaluation on why females get treated differently than men do in the workplace.

There have been mixed results on how it affects children's motivation and achievement. The results from the study suggest that praising children can
reduce disruptive behavior in class and stimulate learning. It was difficult to narrow the result of this achievement to the praise itself or to teacher's
attention and special privileges. At the time of this publication no study has isolated the effects of praise by itself with this type and setting. Praise
has been noted to be varied and exhibit different results at times praise has had an adverse effect on learning while in other settings it has been a
great catalyst. One study suggests that praise directed at an activity rather than a person can be a factor for the different outcomes observed. That
praising on activity gives specific insight to overcoming problems and is beneficial for future situation that will require problem solving skills. The
reason for this maybe that children don't always experience success and personal praise will have the opposite affect at this point. They will begin to
equate non–success with being incompetent, bad and unworthy. Studies suggest that females maybe more at risk for the adverse effects of personal
praise following setback or failures. Research has found that females tend to accept evaluative feedback more so than males. They perceive this
feedback as an accurate reflection of their abilities, while males rely more on their internal belief of their abilities. In a

Differences Between Male And Female Brain
Are there physical differences in the male and female brain? Are there gender differences in memory? If there are differences, do they begin as early
as childhood or adolescence? As we age, and experience life, are men or women more superior in the recollection of memories? Even a novice in the
study of gender and memory could presume that male and female's brains are different, and they would presume correctly as evidenced by the results
of many studies performed and the articles written to record the results of these studies. This literary review is comprised of five scholarly articles on
the topic of the effects of gender on memory. The male versus female brains are different physiologically and psychologically.
The Effects of Gender on Memory
The Human Brain To understand the differences in memory pertaining to gender, one must first look the physical differences and similarities in the
brains of men and women. This can be accomplished by using imaging procedures. These procedures can include functional magnetic resonance

Comparison Of White Upper Class Male And Female
In early 1800s society, there was an "Unequal power relation between male and female". Men were traditionally seen as being the dominant, physically
stronger and socially more powerful in terms of status: "traditional masculinity is a strength, rationality, stoicism and self–reliance". Women's position
in society and within their homes was portrayed as subservient, obedient to their fathers, brothers and male relatives and their husbands throughout their

Gender Differences Between Female And Male
In our society there are such systems and structures that postulate social ways to define and organize gender, to know what to expect of each gender
and what opportunities are available or not available to females and males. These stereotypic ideas are based on certain values and beliefs that have
been culturally idealized and accepted by the society. As a matter of fact, the culture associated with thegender system, proposes differences in gender's
roles and expectations, hence oppressing inequality between female and male. In a system, these inequality–supporting cultural ideologies heavily put
an emphasis on the idea that gender differences are due to biologically based traits that are inherent and unchangeably "natural" for both males and
females. This defined the concept of essentialism. However, those culturally idealized beliefs do not highlight only the characteristic traits or
psychological manners; it also underlines the physical differences and appearance. For example, women are seen as beautiful and attractive, who need
to try to get even prettier by putting on make–up, by taking care of their hair and making sure that they always look appealing. On the other hand,
men, who represent the patriarchal society, are never expected to look handsome or make an impression that they spent more than two hours on their
appearance before going out. Men are never expected to eat less in order not to gain weight. They are never expected to go on a diet so that they can lose

Female And Male Equality : A Topic Of Conversation Dating
Female and male equality has been a topic of conversation dating back to the mid to late 1800's. Women have been fighting for their right to vote, to

not only obtain birth control but also a safe and legal abortion women are still fighting for fair wages and employment. Women are not only wanted to
be seen as equals in the workplace and wages, but also in the household.

This indicated the limited chances of women for raises and promotions or advancement to a better position.
Wage discrimination exists when employees are equals in qualifications and perform the same work but one group of employee is paid more than

Male vs. Female Offenders
The prison world is predominately male dominated. As the years go by, female incarceration levels have been rapidly increasing. The prisons in early
days didn't have to worry about dealing with two different types of inmates as there were not that many females incarcerated. While male and female
inmates do have some similarities, they also have some distinct differences. The way they conduct themselves in prison are different; as are they way
they interact with other inmates. Males typically are in prison for more violent crimes than women, making the maximum security prisons mainly male.
Throughout this paper, these differences and a few similarities are discussed.

Many females in prisons find surrogate families while they are being incarcerated. It is a personality trait of many females to band together with others
to pull through a rough and emotional time, such as being in prison. Female inmates tend to have problems that males don't that bond them together

Homosexuality is prevalent in female institutions, largely because a high percentage of women have been abused and misused by men for most of
their lives, and they already have turned to other females for their emotional needs. 1 in 4 women in prison has been sexually assaulted, most likely by

Male Sexuality : Female Sexuality
Female Sexuality
Female sexuality intertwines with Possessing the Secret of Joy by illustrating its power and those who fear it.
History
In the early nineteenth century, heightened female sexuality was considered a disorder (Studd, 2006). Doctors and psychiatrist sought ways to prevent
"masturbation and decrease libido". Issac Baker Brown– a gynecological surgeon removed the clitoris of a women who sought to use the Divorce Act
of 1857 and leave her husbands as well as young women who read books and failed to follow their mothers' rules. Women received operations to
remove their clitoris preventing sexual stimulation as a way of controlling their sexual desires. Applying of leeches to the vulva and the anus also
destroyed the outer portions of the vagina. In the medieval times, men were fearful of the female sexuality and the madness they believed came along
with heightened states of arousal (Studd, 2006).
Current
Dr. Kimberly Russell says culture influences control women by saying women are less interested in sex than men, and that women prefer monogamy.
Women did not say that, but women believe it (Cavanaugh, 2013). Creating an environment where women control their urges to be sexual with more
than one person, is called "slut shaming." This is an example of societal control over the libido of women. As evidence of this theory, Russell used
other species who mate with several different mates to ensure procreation. More partners greater the chances for pregnancy. Women

The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society
In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different. Ultimately, the males were the ones with the most power. Thus,
they seemed to think they knew what is best for the lady's. Still, she is suffering from depression and went to two different doctors. "My brother is
also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing" (). John is a highly looked upon physician, he tries to make life choices for
her that he knows what is best for her, but does he really? Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they didn't have
power, they were viewed as weak and unsuccessful in life.
In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women were seen as very dependent on the male. The male made the
choices and the female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and tend to house work while their husband was
away at work. Sadly, they didn't seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go somewhere they had to ask permission of theman,
but if the man was not around they would do what they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would
disapprove of their choices. Unfortunately, it was a period of time in which women didn't have much power and were forced to live under a rock.
Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the truth, so they couldn't over power them.

In the fight between a male versus female manager, you may expect that a male supervisor may be superior at running the show, since guys are
frequently seen as natural born leaders. Individuals who act in ways that are incongruent with their sex role tend to be evaluated negatively (Eagly and
Karau, 2002). This incongruity can create problems for female managers because characteristics necessary to be a successful leader are more frequently
associated with the male gender role (Elsesser and Lever, 2014). In the United States today, females from one perspective are commended as having the
right blend of abilities for initiative, yielding unrivaled leadership styles and extraordinary efficiency. Then again, there seems, by all accounts, to be
across the board acknowledgment that ladies regularly come in second to men in rivalries to achieve leadership positions. Females are still depicted as
struggling for access to leadership positions and in addition prejudice and resistance when they occupy these roles.
If you have a particular sexual orientation inclination for your optimal manager or boss, you may be

The Inequality Of Female And Male Sports
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to
discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (Anderson). These thirty seven words, known as Title
IX, have transformed the athletic community for both males and females over the past forty two years. Many wonder why there is still so much talk
about the inequalities of female and male sports even after forty two years of the enactment of Title IX. Violations of this law still occur and some
may be closer to home than one thinks. In 2009, the Office of Civil Rights received a complaint for New Hanover County being out of compliance
with Title IX which initiated a full investigation of all facilities and programs within the county (George). Soon, a list of issues found in the county
was released with proper solutions that needed to be fulfilled within a short amount of time for risk of losing federal funding (George). Title IX is
responsible for the constant maintenance and changes being done to equalize female and male sport's programs because of the major impact sports
have on female's lives. After analyzing the current quality of athletics under Title IX, it becomes evident that the situation needs to be improved
because of the positive influences equal opportunity athletics have on female empowerment and other aspects.
Title IX has a short, but very influential history dating

Male Female Psychological Differences
Male–Female Psychological Differences
No one would argue the fact that men and women are physically different. The physical differences are rather obvious and most of these can be
seen and measured easily. Men, who are essentially built for physical confrontation and the use of force, usually have greater upper body strength,
build muscle easily, have thicker skin, and mostly use the left side of their brain. Women on the other hand, have a higher percentage of body fat, and
a wider pelvis. Women also have four times as many brain cells connecting the right and left side of their brain. This provides physical evidence that
supports the observation that men rely easily and more heavily on their left brain to solve one problem one step at ... Show more content on

Men and women, although very familiar in the physical aspect are vastly different in the psychological aspect of the average human mind and body.
Evolution has led most women to be empathetic, very emotionally expressive in non–violent ways, being more apt to talk and think thoughts and
emotions through before acting on them. While men, on the other hand, are seen as the strong, emotionally stable, and providing sex. Even though,
generally, they act on the urges their emotions send to the brain and react in more physical ways. Men are the more physical gender, while women are
the more emotional and social gender, with exceptions, of course.

Female Vs. Male Answers
When faced with fabricated images of beauty on magazines and billboards, the average everyday person begins to objectify themselves, leading to
feelings of self consciousness and humiliation. Now imagine, that with all the different types of medias nowadays there are scantily clad men
/women everywhere. Covers with photoshopped images of "perfection" have now become the new norm and society is feeling the pressures to keep
up. The average American walks past and sees about 3,000 advertisements per day, which can do a number on healthy everyday individuals let alone
people who are considered "overweight" by society's standards. This research paper will talk about the results of a body image survey, comparing and
contrasting why female vs male answers are different and how the rest of the world (outside of oakmont) is reacting to body image controversy. The
students and faculty of Oakmont Regional High School, much like the rest of America, have a distorted sense of body image, due to the media and the
photoshopped models that adorn their ads.
A survey relating to body image was given out to approximately ____ people. This anonymous survey first asked them to state their gender, race and
age. That way the data could easily be grouped for male vs female responses. It also allows the data to be potentially grouped by race (such as
American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and White) however Oakmont has very little

Male and Female Reproductive Strategies in Primates and Their Comparison to Humans
Introduction
The male and female primates have different reproductive strategies. The female's approaches are similar in all the species while those of males differ
according to the species that they belong (Bercovitch, 1991). Female primates invest in their offspring in terms of time and energy. They provide food
for the infant even if it means competing with other females until the infant can look after itself. At this point, the female can focus on getting another
offspring. However, the number of offspring that she will get is limited by the gestation and lactating periods (Winkler, 1988). Males do not contribute
in the nurturing of the infant but may protect it from predators to some extent. The number of babies they can have is unlimited since they can mate
with as many females as they want.
Food determines the reproductive success of females since it affects its birth rate and infant survival (Masters, 1983). The effort invested in mating
determines the reproductive success of male primates. Human female reproductive success is as well dependent on nutrition since it determines the
success of the gestation period and the survival of the infant. Women as well invest more in their offspring, similar to primates, while men perform

Male And Female Similarities And Differences Essay
Differences between Males and Females
An Essay in Compare and Contrast
First of all, it is true that there are several things that uniquely distinguished males from females in terms of roles play within the society, the physical
appearance, voice, brain cells, brain size, communication skills and career selections.
Males are popularly known as the head of the family and the bread winner, whereas females are commonly referred to as the home maker and also the
comforter in time of sorrow.
One of the variations between males and females is their physical looks. Normally, males are sometimes taller than females and they have more
strength and nerve than males. These three physical features help men to be stronger and have additional power to try and do exhausting labor or
high–energy activities such as walking fast up a hill, lifting, and wrestling, karate, running and cardiopulmonary exercise than women. They even have
more muscle in body than females (Alavi 6). Body structures and facial appearance are also other things that differentiated males and females,
females are well known to be curvier in shape than males and their faces are softer, smoother, and they are not as hairy as the male's faces. Additionally,
male's shoulders are broader than female's shoulders.
Another obvious distinction between males and females is voice pitch that is what people understand as deep voice. Generally males are far–famed for
their manly deep or high voice. This is often because the "males'

Essay about Male and Female Issues
Male and Female Issues
There have been so many controversial issues involving gender equity. Boys have been seen in excelling in certain subject areas, whereas girls excel
in others. Most believe that two certain subjects, math and science, boys perform better in. One report that was held in 1992 by the American
Association of University Women came to the conclusion that girls were encouraged to "pursue traditional female studies instead of mathematics,
science and traditionally male subject areas" (Unger 10.) Although many of these girls are probably very gifted in these certain subject areas, women
are being pushed towards certain careers that are not to their interests and desires (Delisle 1998.) One woman who tried to change ... Show more content

Trudy Hanmer found this to be true when she took a survey asking some students their opinion and feelings concerning these subject areas. She found
that 52 percent of the males in the study said they would enjoy being in a scientific field, and only 29 percent of the females said they would like a
career pertaining to science.
Similarly, "50 percent of the elementary school boys said they were good at math, only 33 percent of the elementary school girls described
themselves as good at this subject. By high school, only 14 percent of the girls described themselves as good at math" (Hanmer 61.) Even though the
gap is getting smaller between math and science, there is a new gap forming concerning technology. Boys have a more positive attitude when it comes
to working with computers (Butler, 227.) Boys seem to be more drawn to computers than girls as they get older. Lovett Gray researched this and came
to the conclusion that children in first grade had the same amount of interest in computers; by sixth grade girls were outnumbered by 2–1; and by ninth
grade over four–fifths of those interested in computers were boys (Basow 1986.) Some girls feel comfortable working with new, advanced technology,
but for the most part it is the males who are least intimidated and more eager with technology. There are many different

staff, what they think about staff attitudes, if they feel staff have an impact on their success in the program, and what do they think about the
program. Staff interactions will also be observed to identify the different interactions staff may have with each offender and the impact that it has on
the offender. Through this direct observation as well as video footage observation that would be conducted by those on the research team, it will
show if Core Correctional Practices are being used. Does staff use their authority effectively? Does staff exhibit problem solve skills? Does staff use
community resources? It will also show if Core Correctional Practices are being used appropriately. Regardless of the offender discharge status the

The Rules On How Males And Females Are They Essay
Who makes the rules on how males and females are supposed to act? From the beginning of time society has created the quote unquote rules on how
males and females are supposed to act. How society views gender is a controversial topic; a topic that's views are unlikely to change in the near future,
but should have some consideration. Articles such as, "Learning to Be Gendered" by Penelope Eckert and Sally McConnell–Ginet and "Lean In: What
Would You Do If You Weren't afraid" by Sheryl Sandberg share some commonalities and different views on what
gender is, and how society has
shaped gender into what it is today. With the help of these article's we can see that times are changing, and traditional roles are no longer what they
use to. With this in mind, it is time to accept that traditional roles are no longer the norm; because of evolution society needs to realize that it's time for
change. In the first article, "Learning to Be Gendered" Penelope Eckert and Sally McConnell– Ginet argues that gender is something that forced upon
us from the time parents find out the sex of the unborn child. These beliefs have been instilled upon us by society. One point the authors make in this
article would be, "If gender flowed naturally from sex, one might expect the world to sit back and simply allow the baby to become male or female"
(Eckert and McConnell–Ginet, 2013, p.738). Although this is a great idea it is not the case. Males and females are treated different from the moment

Female Athletes And Male Athletes
It's pretty clear that in today's society males are the dominate figure in sports. Unlike female athletes, men receive a tremendous amount of media
attention than female athletes. Young boys grow up watching television bombarded with heroic images of male athletes. They have something to look
up to, while young girls do not receive the same images. Male and female athletes have many equal opportunities when it comes to playing and
succeeding in sports. Yet it seems that male sports happen to catch more of the limelight when it comes to the media and the publicity they receive for
the athletics performances. Women have been fighting this battle against the media for many years now. The problem is that women athletes are
portrayed as sex symbols and are not taken seriously as athletes. Female athletes make up 40 percent of sports participants nationally, but only received
8 percent of the entire sports coverage. With that being said, this literature review examines how the sports portray the female athlete compared to how
the media represents them. Since the 20th century, female athletes have made enormous strides to improve their status. Prior to these efforts and
achievements, female athletes had to play in much poorer facilities under different rules and with stricter dress codes than male athletes. Society also
ignored and discriminated against female athletes. This discrimination portrayed them as masculine rather than feminine due to the sport they play and

Male And Female Relationships In Prison
It is nothing new that relationships occur within the prisons. This includes male and females. However, the article we read stated that male and female
relationships are quite different. For males, these relationships are geared with control and violence, as the females it's quite the opposite.
I think that guards should be allowed to encourage familial relationships but not sexual relationships.
I'm sure that trying to stop family type relationship would provide quite difficult in the first place. Having this kind of structure in prison could be
beneficial to those that have never experienced it and would also help some in the rehabilitation process. Sexual relationships in jail would not do any
justice towards rehabilitation but would

Male and female hormones make them act different ways that are misunderstood by the other sex. Most men and women relate differently in emotions.
Brain generation during the high emotion causes the women talk things over and over, but men emotion likely to lead them to action which is possibly
violence. Sometimes, women would ask the men what are they thinking as the women see the men go quiet because usually, when women are quiet,
they feel hurt and upset so they assume the same way to the guys. Actually, it is not what happens to men; they go quiet because they have things to be
solved. Men and women need to appreciate each other that sometimes, women need to talk about their feeling although, men like to show practicalities
rather than what they are feeling; to understand the emotion is the best way for them to relate one another.
Commonly, both man and woman need to work out together in order to make a relationship work out smoothly. Somehow, men and women tend to
think differently from each other about their relationships. At the beginning when the men first get to know the women, they would most of the time
brag about their achievements even though they are nervous and keep talking without knowing that the women sometimes don't even bother to know
those things (McChristie, N.D.). In contrast, women would talk about themselves, family, and what they enjoy to do, and it shows that men and
women don't actually talk to each

Male And Female Dating Profile Essay
Past research has demonstrated that there exists a connection between smiling and physical attractiveness. A smiling person was perceived as more
intelligent and could create in the perceiver a warmer feeling than a nonsmiling person. This study evaluates whether smiling vs. not smiling and rater's
gender have an effect on attractiveness ratings of a male and a female dating profile. Furthermore, it predicts that there will be a main effect of
smiling on the ratings of both, male and female dating profiles. Moreover, it also predicts that there will be an interaction of rater's gender and
smiling for the female profile. However, the results did not support this statement, there was not a main effect of rater's gender on any of the dating
profiles. Both profiles male and female, were better rated when the person was smiling. Indicating that people prefer smiling over the non–smiling
faces. On the other hand, no interaction was observed between rater's genders and smiling for male and female profile.
Introduction
Previous researchers have concentrated on the effect of smiling on physical attractiveness. Reis, et al., (2010) conducted a research by using 15 males
and 15 females neutral and smiling photos of each subject that served as a stimulus to 50 females and 50 males college students. Participants rated
each photograph on 20 traits adjectives. An analysis of variance showed that people rated smiling profiles as more favorable than non–smiling profiles.

There are typical representations for both males and females. Usually the well known representation of a male is to be strong, manly and brave.
The typical representation of a female is to be loving, innocent and a mother. This is what each gender 's representation usually was back then.
Nowadays, the representation of each males and females has changed. More and more males are taking on the "jobs of women" as in being the one
to take care of and spend the most time with the kids. This happens because more and more women are becoming very independent and making

People are focusing on the movement and they are getting their point across. They try to promote women are strong and are independent just like men
are. They keep fighting to earn the same amount of money for the same job that a man works. Some states have their male employees earn just a little
bit more money than the female employee of the state. a majority of women do not like the idea and are wanting to fight back so they can get all the
money that they earned just like any man of the state should earn. The youth girls of America are the people who the feminists are trying to target
and tell them they can do whatever they want if they work hard for it. This audience of people they try targeting because they know they are
obviously the future of America and when they grow up to keep fighting for feminism, they will be stronger because they got a good taste of it their
whole lives growing up. Boys are told to be strong, manly, independent and to provide for women and children. Girls are told to be loving for their
children and to be depended of a man. This was the norm until recently feminism has taken over for girls to grow up and be what they want to be. The
gender representation of women has changed to, if they wanted, strong and independent for themselves so they do not have to depend on a man for a
good living. In one of Mr. Clean's advertisements, they show a mother and a daughter with the sponge product they

Roles Of Males And Females Alike
Gender norms often support stereotypical ideas that help people form general assumptions about the roles of males and females alike. In RyЕ«nosuke
Akutagawa's "In a Bamboo Grove," gender norm accusations about Masago are demonstrated by the old woman, the robber, and Masago's husband,
Takehiko, as they are being questioned. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any role in the murder of her husband. The fact that
none of the characters in the story would ever expect that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because
their focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. Being one of the characters to suggest Masago is innocent in the death of her husband,
the old woman fails to realize the truth when she assumes that Masago is hurt. The old woman explains, ". . . the fate of my daughter worries me
sick" (Akutagawa 2). By stating that she is worried for her own daughter's safety, the old woman is implying that her daughter is also a victim who had
nothing to do with the murder of her son–in–law, Takehiko, because she does not believe that Masago, being a woman, could have possibly played
any other role in the crime other than the victim. The old woman goes on to say, "I hate that robber Tajomaru, or whatever his name is. Not only my
son–in–law, but my daughter . . ." (2). In this statement, the old woman reinforces her belief that her daughter, since she is a woman, is nothing more

The patterns and rates of offending between males and females have several similarities, as well as, differences. The nature of the offences is also
varied and the level of penalty is also different. While it can be considered that both males and females equally engage in minor offences and abuse of
substances, the rates for men are higher than that of women. This paper will discuss the differences and similarities that exist in the United Kingdom.
To begin, there are numerous differences that can be cited betweenfemale offending and male offending. Generally, studies show that women tend to

Male vs Female Achievements Essay

  • 1. Is Female to Male as Nature Is to Culture Essay Is Female to Male as Nature is to Culture Universally, the status of a woman in a society is secondary to a man's status. On the other hand, there are societies today that man is subordinate to woman. The treatments and symbolizations of women are diverse and vary from culture to culture. No cultures are exactly the same. In this critical review of Ortner (1974) "Is Female to Male as Nature Is to Culture" I will attempt to give a summary and critical analysis on the article. In the beginning of the article Ortner talks about how in China the ideology of Taoism, yin, the female principle, and yang, the male principle, are supposed to characterize men and women equally. Looking at the social structure of the Chinese society the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Low level cultural activities are more associated with women. At the end of the article, Ortner said, "Women is not 'in reality' any closer to (or further from nature) nature than man – both have consciousness, both are mortal (Ortner, 1974: 367)." Both men and women are equally as much like nature, but there are ways why women appear that way. Who would have thought someone would devote their time into studying how males and females are observed and treated and compared to the way that society would act towards nature and culture? After all, Ortner's arguments seemed to make sense! I feel that her arguments are not sufficient enough to prove why women are much closer to nature than men. To help prove her arguments; she must give all types of evidences from any single society, but not from different societies. Ortner only points out how women are much closer to nature and how men are more associated with culture activities, but lacks to point out or give sufficient examples of how women can be more associated with "culture" activities and how men can be associated with "natural" activities. I feel that her writing has a hint of racism toward males. Whether having her writing balanced out, she mostly concentrates on how women appears closer to nature and talks more about females than of males. Like many authors, Ortner writes within a historical and political context. Ortner's choice of level follows from her structuralist theoretical position (Ortner, 1974: ... • 2. Male Friendships : Female Friendships Female vs Male Friendships Although friendships in general form for the same reasons of support and companionship, we are able to discern certain differences between male and female friendships. While one is more casual, the other is intimate and personal. Male friendships are laid–back, they have less drama and more fun. However, in most cases they lack communication because of prideful barriers. Male friendships tend to include team membership, jokes and insults, and three or more friends, not just two. In contrast female friendships have physical closeness, one–on–one communication, a certain openness, a sense of attachment. Female friendships are thought to be closer because women like to share their deepest, darkest feelings and engage in more one–on–one discussions. But, male friendships are seen as more stable because men view their friendship as a team, and work together to keep the relationship afloat. One of the main differences is that females have a stronger emotional attachment to each other. They reveal more things, share secrets, and get on a more personal level. Men tend to avoid anything dealing with emotions, heart–to–heart talks. Instead they bond on a simpler standard. An emotional moment can happen every day for women, and every month for men. When men fight, they 'll fight about it and then act as if it never happened. But when women fight, it will go on as long as they let it. They can prolong a fight for as long as weeks and keep grudges for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Male And Female Or Man And Woman Introduction: Male and female or man and woman, are terms that are used to show different genders. Apart from the physical differences, each gender, according to our social definition, have different roles. Generally, men have the more masculine, more physical, roles, while women tend to do better in the nurturing, care taking, tasks. These roles have become norms that have been set by the society. It is expected of men to be working at all times, they are expected to be the bread winners, while women are expected to take care of home tasks, such as raising the children or cooking. These norms might alternate in some cases, but most people would agree on these as being the standards. In our Vicks ad " When They Breath Easier, So You Can", a man is shown to be taking care of what appears to be his child, which is opposite of what we believe to be the norms. Target Audience: This ad could be targeting either gender. However, the fact that it is showing a male doing the nurturing role must have a reason behind it. As we notice in the bottom right corner of the ad there is an NFL, National Football League, logo. In addition to the logo, it says that Vicks is the official sponsor of NFL. Now it becomes clear that this ad is meant to target football fans, as it is specifically produced to be shown at the NFL. It is generally known that a sport such as football is more popular within males, much more than females. Such a product, like Vicks VapoRub, is known to help children with ... • 4. Difference Between Male And Females In this naturalistic observation study I looked at the differences between male and females regarding their actions upon greeting another person. I looked at the frequency in which they hugged or performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information was used to find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The variable of interest in this experiment are gender and the action upon greeting.Gender is conceptually defined as the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined as what both males and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with someone of familiarity. My hypothesis for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more often than guys. In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from intervening I recorder data a distance away from the main trafficked area of greeting. This was so my actions or presence would not prohibit the sample population from proceeding with their natural behavior. My sampling location was only at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. The time sampling used was an hour from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. When choosing my sample population I chose people greeting around the ground floor entrance to the library that were in eyesight of my data recording position. The sample population in this ... • 5. Male And Female Communication "Men Are from Mars and Women Are from Venus", is a true statement. Male and Female communication styles are totally different. Men and women appear to be from two different planets. How does communication and culture affect how you communication? I agree, that cultural communication is taught different based on gender? Yes, Females are taught at a very young age to be great listeners and pay close attention to detail. Males on the other hand or taught to leave all the detail stuff to the women. Both way men and women separately are two totally different genders. Male and Female genders have their own background and cultural habits. The difference in genders has created different communion styles. This makes relationships very challenging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women do use metamessages when communication with men. Our cultures do affect are future communication in our long term relationships. Women, I must concur assume that if they are in a long term relationships the man should know all about them. The man should know what they like and do not like. Women in long term relationships know all about the man. They know their favorite food, favorite color and their like and dislikes. Men, from my experiences do not like a lot of communication– talking in other words. Women on the other hand enjoys communication and I agree that Deborah Tannen statement, "Being understood without saying what you mean gives a payoff in involvement, and that is why women value it so highly". This is exactly what women really want in relationships with men. Women value men who can know exactly what they are thinking without saying a word. Metamessages as described in this reading excerpt as an indirect way of communicating. Metamessages are what women use as a form of communication to resolve conflict or to solve every day dilemmas in relationships with men. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Disparity Between The Achievements Of Males And Females The disparity between the achievements of males and females has been a concerning issue in education since the day girls were required to go to school. Ideally, as a whole, students belonging to either gender should perform equally well in their studies, but rarely has that ever happened. Boys traditionally performed better than their female peers because it was once normal for them to receive an education while girls stayed at home. Recently, however, a different trend has occurred in gender achievement. On average, "In high school, girls get higher grades in every subject, usually by about a quarter of a point, and have a higher median class rank" (Brooks 410). This sudden shift has prompted many concerned parents to wonder whether school curriculums have been recently designed to interest girls, while ignoring what boys like in the process. Although it is easy to blame the public school system for catering to girls, they are not the immediate problem; the expectation for boys to pursue certain interests is the reason for the achievement gap. At a young age, many children are taught potentially damaging beliefs about what they should like and how they should act. Typically, baby girls are given pink clothes, while baby boys are given blue clothes. This all happens before they form their own opinions of their favorite color. After that, whether from family or peers, they are conditioned either consciously or subconsciously on what topics should interest them. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Differences between the Human Male and Female Differences between male and female have long been recognized and investigated to serve as a mean to distinguish between the two sexes. Although the disparities is undeniable, factors that cause these differences are still a controversial topic as to whether they are caused by biologically or because of the social perception placed on the two genders. In this paper, I will try to analyze the differences between male and female in: physical strength, cognitive ability, communication and mating and suggest some daily and administrative application of these dissimilarities. Physical strength is among the most visible differences between sexes, which is mainly caused by biological factors rather than social ones. Male and female are dissimilar in appearance, athletic ability and longevity. Sex hormones account for most of the differences in appearance (breasts and wider hips in women) and athletic ability. Research show that testosterone gives men the ability to build larger muscles and larger hearts. It also supports the production of red blood cells, which increase the absorption of oxygen and provide men with an even greater athletic advantage. Another causal factor is related to the importance of the X chromosome, of which women have two while men have only one. A research at Stanford University in 1985 showed that there is a gene important to DNA repair on the X chromosome. Because women have two X chromosomes, if she has an abnormal gene on one, her body can still use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Balance Of Equality Between Male And Females The Balance of Equality between Male and Females In every religion, male and females have different statuses. Although, we are taught to treat everyone with equal respect, some religions fail to acknowledge that every person, whether male or female are a creation of God. Ideally, God has created man and women for different purposes. There are also many rules and regulations listed for both genders, which bring up the differences and helps us identify the importance of both in this world. Even in today's time we see that females struggle with wages. Some people think that living in the 21st century means that everything is well balanced and everyone is treated equally. However, even in today's time there is a division between genders not in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Males have a duty of working hard enough to be able to fulfill the necessities of his family whereas; Women are responsible to nurture her children and give full divided attention to both children and husband. Thus, they both are obligated to take over the responsibilities equally and help each other out. In every religion, males have a higher position because they are created to protect women's. Even though both have almost the same aspect and reason/ purpose in this world, they both are very unlikely to be understanding of each other's perspective since they think of themselves as more superior. Also, both of the sexes are emotionally different; girls have a very detailed brain while males have a general brain, which thinks straight forward. We like to hold on to arguments and thing where men's don't try looking at things. Both women and male are given a different name in each religion. In Islam, women carries paradise under her feet when she becomes a rightful mother due to the pain she experiences during her labor. A men is required to treat his wife with the same manner he would treat his children's. However, on the other hand, God indicated in the sacred book that if he was to wish a women to bow down someone after God, it was surely to be her husband. • 9. The Female Model Of The Male Model The male model is also portrayed as in control because he handles the horse reins with a firm, tight grip while the female model's hand is shown as controlled by her environment. Goffman described male hands as "firm and bold", molding to the items they hold as if having control (Jhally Codes of Gender). The strong, firm grip of the male's left hand on the horse reins suggests that the male model is in control of the horse; the horse depicts obedience to the male because the male model controls all the power. Another aspect of the male's dominance is shown through his calmness. He is situated on the horse sitting up straight and relaxed, yet prepared for any change or danger that appears in the environment. In contrast to the male hands, the positioning of the female model's hand depicts that she is not in control of her surroundings. In the video documentary, Goffman stated female's hands are controlled by the environment; not the environment controlled by them (Jhally Codes of Gender). The female model gently rests her hand on the horse's neck; she does not hold onto the reins suggesting that she is passive and not in control of the horse. The female hands are also shown as not controlling, but rather just simply there (Jhally Codes of Gender). The placement of her hand portrays that the horse is free to roam, resulting in controlling where their destination is instead of the woman manipulating the horse to where her destination is. Her hand depicts that she is passive to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female Antonio Gramsci's hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been occurring since the beginning of time. It is where a dominant force exerts its influence in society and exert their own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of male over female. Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is masculine and what is not. With hegemony, here will be always an opposing force that plans a strategy in order to combat and defeat their adversary. Homosexuality is often depicted as inferiority. Heterosexual men see homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their masculinity by very specific set of behavior, habits and activities acting strong, being involved in sports and becoming engineer or doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these characteristics is viewed as "effeminate". A young man like the actor in the movie who does not engage in vigorous sports but is interested in theater and poetry and shows sensitivity is perceived as being a "Sister Boy" a code word for as being "Gay". This is a hint that a lack of what society perceives as masculinity is linked to homosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to people of their gender. Homosexuals are usually human beings very aware of their gender, their masculinity or femininity while being attracted to members of the same sex or gender. In the movie, this very sensitive and apparently fragile young man falls in love with an older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Female Relationships Between Female And Male Conversations As the laugh they all laughed, and the joke they all told, and the secrets they all shared. Female and Male friends are similar and distinctive in so many ways. But one thing they share among each other is their friendship. Such Conversations, Activities and personalities are displayed differently between male and females. It is evident that female and male conversations differ from each other. Females can hold a conversation on the phone for hours and not run out of things to say, beginning from gossip, to chattering about crushes, then on continuing to compliment each other for supportive reasons, later comes down to being called the word "Thick". Females sometimes don't realize how much we need us women in each other's life. For instance, we require each other for support, love, and the basic everyday drama which include going through menstrual cycles that men naturally can't comprehend. On the other hand, males can barely last an hour when holding a conversation on the phone. Male conversations are usually more of a straight forward approach, they say what they discuss what they need to discuss and dismiss the conversation. Money, sex, drugs, and not to mention sports of all things is usually the topic on a day–to–day basis as I've grown up all my life in a male household. Males tend not to get too emotional when they converse with other males, however when having conversations with females, they can conversate for hours and hours. Both male and female have the ... Males The Effects Discrimination in the Workplace Have On Females vs. Males A Research Proposal 1.Introduction: I am researching the effects discrimination in the workplace have on females vs. males to find out why males get treated with a higher amount of respect than females. My readers will learn to understand the impact gender differences plays in our everyday lives. The society that we have emerged ourselves within have become so judgmental that equality seems to get ignored. Many individuals believe that equality doesn't exist anymore within our nation. Yes, it may be true that some men are bigger, muscular, and hostile than the average woman. However, it is also considered that women may somehow have an upper hand over men when it ... How is discrimination effecting female workers? 3.Discussion: Discrimination in the workplace amongst females and males have stimulated under control within our nation. The negativity amongst gender has affected job population and achievement. Gender equality is so important that in the Workplace Gender Act took place. This act was passed to ensure that jobs promoted gender equality. The Gender Equality Act also eliminates discriminating issues related to job matters. The other important factor this act did was support equal participation in the workplace. The research has proven that all women workers should be treated equally no matter the condition. Research will also cover the evaluation on why females get treated differently than men do in the workplace. 4.Annotated Bibliography: Crittenden, A. (2013). In one study females were considered more motivated and exhibited higher mastery in reading. There were several factors that contributed to this conclusion, some being biological and distinctly different from gender to gender. Boys were usually assessed as less developed mentally and developing in different sequences as their female counterparts. The corpus callosum was 20% bigger in females than males. These connect the two hemispheres of the brain. Couple this with these facts together explains why females tend to be better communicators than males. There have been mixed results on how it affects children's motivation and achievement. The results from the study suggest that praising children can reduce disruptive behavior in class and stimulate learning. It was difficult to narrow the result of this achievement to the praise itself or to teacher's attention and special privileges. At the time of this publication no study has isolated the effects of praise by itself with this type and setting. Praise has been noted to be varied and exhibit different results at times praise has had an adverse effect on learning while in other settings it has been a great catalyst. One study suggests that praise directed at an activity rather than a person can be a factor for the different outcomes observed. That praising on activity gives specific insight to overcoming problems and is beneficial for future situation that will require problem solving skills. The reason for this maybe that children don't always experience success and personal praise will have the opposite affect at this point. They will begin to equate non–success with being incompetent, bad and unworthy. Studies suggest that females maybe more at risk for the adverse effects of personal praise following setback or failures. • 15. Differences Between Male And Female Brain Are there physical differences in the male and female brain? Are there gender differences in memory? If there are differences, do they begin as early as childhood or adolescence? As we age, and experience life, are men or women more superior in the recollection of memories? Even a novice in the study of gender and memory could presume that male and female's brains are different, and they would presume correctly as evidenced by the results of many studies performed and the articles written to record the results of these studies. This literary review is comprised of five scholarly articles on the topic of the effects of gender on memory. The male versus female brains are different physiologically and psychologically. The Effects of Gender on Memory The Human Brain To understand the differences in memory pertaining to gender, one must first look the physical differences and similarities in the brains of men and women. This can be accomplished by using imaging procedures. These procedures can include functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the article Evolving Knowledge of Sex Differences in Brain Structure, Function, and Chemistry (Cosgrove, 2007), the authors state that there are many similarities in the brain structure and function in men and women. The article also lists some important differences as well. One finding is that men have greater brain volume than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Men were traditionally seen as being the dominant, physically stronger and socially more powerful in terms of status: "traditional masculinity is a strength, rationality, stoicism and self–reliance". Women's position in society and within their homes was portrayed as subservient, obedient to their fathers, brothers and male relatives and their husbands throughout their lives. • 17. Gender Differences Between Female And Male In our society there are such systems and structures that postulate social ways to define and organize gender, to know what to expect of each gender and what opportunities are available or not available to females and males. These stereotypic ideas are based on certain values and beliefs that have been culturally idealized and accepted by the society. As a matter of fact, the culture associated with thegender system, proposes differences in gender's roles and expectations, hence oppressing inequality between female and male. In a system, these inequality–supporting cultural ideologies heavily put an emphasis on the idea that gender differences are due to biologically based traits that are inherent and unchangeably "natural" for both males and females. This defined the concept of essentialism. However, those culturally idealized beliefs do not highlight only the characteristic traits or psychological manners; it also underlines the physical differences and appearance. For example, women are seen as beautiful and attractive, who need to try to get even prettier by putting on make–up, by taking care of their hair and making sure that they always look appealing. On the other hand, men, who represent the patriarchal society, are never expected to look handsome or make an impression that they spent more than two hours on their appearance before going out. Men are never expected to eat less in order not to gain weight. They are never expected to go on a diet so that they can lose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Issac Baker Brown– a gynecological surgeon removed the clitoris of a women who sought to use the Divorce Act of 1857 and leave her husbands as well as young women who read books and failed to follow their mothers' rules. In the medieval times, men were fearful of the female sexuality and the madness they believed came along with heightened states of arousal (Studd, 2006). Current Dr. Kimberly Russell says culture influences control women by saying women are less interested in sex than men, and that women prefer monogamy. Women did not say that, but women believe it (Cavanaugh, 2013). Creating an environment where women control their urges to be sexual with more than one person, is called "slut shaming." This is an example of societal control over the libido of women. As evidence of this theory, Russell used other species who mate with several different mates to ensure procreation. Many wonder why there is still so much talk about the inequalities of female and male sports even after forty two years of the enactment of Title IX. Violations of this law still occur and some may be closer to home than one thinks. In 2009, the Office of Civil Rights received a complaint for New Hanover County being out of compliance with Title IX which initiated a full investigation of all facilities and programs within the county (George). Soon, a list of issues found in the county was released with proper solutions that needed to be fulfilled within a short amount of time for risk of losing federal funding (George). Male And Female Reproductive Strategies Male and Female Reproductive Strategies in Primates and Their Comparison to Humans Simuel Lands November 4, 2016 Research Paper/Anthropology 161 Male and Female Reproductive Strategies in Primates and Their Comparison to Humans Introduction The male and female primates have different reproductive strategies. The female's approaches are similar in all the species while those of males differ according to the species that they belong (Bercovitch, 1991). Female primates invest in their offspring in terms of time and energy. They provide food for the infant even if it means competing with other females until the infant can look after itself. At this point, the female can focus on getting another offspring. However, the number of offspring that she will get is limited by the gestation and lactating periods (Winkler, 1988). Males do not contribute in the nurturing of the infant but may protect it from predators to some extent. The number of babies they can have is unlimited since they can mate with as many females as they want. Food determines the reproductive success of females since it affects its birth rate and infant survival (Masters, 1983). The effort invested in mating determines the reproductive success of male primates. Human female reproductive success is as well dependent on nutrition since it determines the success of the gestation period and the survival of the infant. • 29. Male And Female Similarities And Differences Essay Differences between Males and Females An Essay in Compare and Contrast First of all, it is true that there are several things that uniquely distinguished males from females in terms of roles play within the society, the physical appearance, voice, brain cells, brain size, communication skills and career selections. Males are popularly known as the head of the family and the bread winner, whereas females are commonly referred to as the home maker and also the comforter in time of sorrow. One of the variations between males and females is their physical looks. Normally, males are sometimes taller than females and they have more strength and nerve than males. These three physical features help men to be stronger and have additional power to try and do exhausting labor or high–energy activities such as walking fast up a hill, lifting, and wrestling, karate, running and cardiopulmonary exercise than women. They even have more muscle in body than females (Alavi 6). Body structures and facial appearance are also other things that differentiated males and females, females are well known to be curvier in shape than males and their faces are softer, smoother, and they are not as hairy as the male's faces. Additionally, male's shoulders are broader than female's shoulders. Another obvious distinction between males and females is voice pitch that is what people understand as deep voice. Lovett Gray researched this and came to the conclusion that children in first grade had the same amount of interest in computers; by sixth grade girls were outnumbered by 2–1; and by ninth grade over four–fifths of those interested in computers were boys (Basow 1986.) From the beginning of time society has created the quote unquote rules on how males and females are supposed to act. How society views gender is a controversial topic; a topic that's views are unlikely to change in the near future, but should have some consideration. Articles such as, "Learning to Be Gendered" by Penelope Eckert and Sally McConnell–Ginet and "Lean In: What Would You Do If You Weren't afraid" by Sheryl Sandberg share some commonalities and different views on what gender is, and how society has shaped gender into what it is today. With this in mind, it is time to accept that traditional roles are no longer the norm; because of evolution society needs to realize that it's time for change. In the first article, "Learning to Be Gendered" Penelope Eckert and Sally McConnell– Ginet argues that gender is something that forced upon us from the time parents find out the sex of the unborn child. These beliefs have been instilled upon us by society. One point the authors make in this article would be, "If gender flowed naturally from sex, one might expect the world to sit back and simply allow the baby to become male or female" (Eckert and McConnell–Ginet, 2013, p.738). Yet it seems that male sports happen to catch more of the limelight when it comes to the media and the publicity they receive for the athletics performances. Women have been fighting this battle against the media for many years now. The problem is that women athletes are portrayed as sex symbols and are not taken seriously as athletes. Female athletes make up 40 percent of sports participants nationally, but only received 8 percent of the entire sports coverage. With that being said, this literature review examines how the sports portray the female athlete compared to how the media represents them. Since the 20th century, female athletes have made enormous strides to improve their status. • 38. Representation Of Male And Females There are typical representations for both males and females. Usually the well known representation of a male is to be strong, manly and brave. The typical representation of a female is to be loving, innocent and a mother. This is what each gender 's representation usually was back then. Nowadays, the representation of each males and females has changed. More and more males are taking on the "jobs of women" as in being the one to take care of and spend the most time with the kids. People are focusing on the movement and they are getting their point across. They try to promote women are strong and are independent just like men are. They keep fighting to earn the same amount of money for the same job that a man works. Some states have their male employees earn just a little bit more money than the female employee of the state. a majority of women do not like the idea and are wanting to fight back so they can get all the money that they earned just like any man of the state should earn. The youth girls of America are the people who the feminists are trying to target and tell them they can do whatever they want if they work hard for it. This audience of people they try targeting because they know they are obviously the future of America and when they grow up to keep fighting for feminism, they will be stronger because they got a good taste of it their whole lives growing up. Boys are told to be strong, manly, independent and to provide for women and children. Girls are told to be loving for their children and to be depended of a man. This was the norm until recently feminism has taken over for girls to grow up and be what they want to be. The gender representation of women has changed to, if they wanted, strong and independent for themselves so they do not have to depend on a man for a good living. • 39. Roles Of Males And Females Alike Gender norms often support stereotypical ideas that help people form general assumptions about the roles of males and females alike. In RyЕ«nosuke Akutagawa's "In a Bamboo Grove," gender norm accusations about Masago are demonstrated by the old woman, the robber, and Masago's husband, Takehiko, as they are being questioned. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any role in the murder of her husband. The fact that none of the characters in the story would ever expect that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because their focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. Being one of the characters to suggest Masago is innocent in the death of her husband, the old woman fails to realize the truth when she assumes that Masago is hurt. The old woman explains, ". . . the fate of my daughter worries me sick" (Akutagawa 2). By stating that she is worried for her own daughter's safety, the old woman is implying that her daughter is also a victim who had nothing to do with the murder of her son–in–law, Takehiko, because she does not believe that Masago, being a woman, could have possibly played any other role in the crime other than the victim. The old woman goes on to say, "I hate that robber Tajomaru, or whatever his name is. Not only my son–in–law, but my daughter . . ." (2). In this statement, the old woman reinforces her belief that her daughter, since she is a woman, is nothing more than a victim of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
