There are various views of women in ministry. Some of these views are very conservative while
others are very liberal and then there are those that trail the middle of the road. There are three major
views, The most conservative view is the traditional view. The traditionalists believe that male and
female were created differently and should hold different roles. They hold strong to Genesis 3:16,

In a Pastor's home, these may be only the basics; expectations may be pilled on the pastor's kid (PK)
to such an alarming degree that many adults, let alone kids, could not handle the pressure. A PK may

To describe my emotions as the experience evoked. I was anxious about who will be the speaker for
the Youth Group. The conflict between pastor Kevin. The question that I've asked myself was "am I
not good enough?" but as I was talking to him, he did express the trust that he had in me. But to
describe my role is pastor apprentice, I did understand my role and responsibility as pastor
apprentice but "the heart of matter" was to submit to the authority, which I have clearly stated to
Pastor Kevin that I will submit to both him and senior pastor's decision.
The issue was raised when I was struggling to understand why pastor Kevin did not ask me as the
speaker of summer retreat. I was hurt by the fact that I've heard from the one of Sunday school
teacher, not directly from him. I've respectfully asked him for one on one meeting to discuss the
following issue. My anxiety would be high at stake, I could have been depressed by the decision
made by pastor Kevin, just like in the winter retreat, I would be struggling of my identity as a pastor,

In the previous two chapters, some theories of stress and burnout, pastoral ministry, and especially

research literature, this chapter will discuss the experiential research used in this study with selected
–African– American pastors. It will also analyze burnout of pastors in Northeast Florida African

Participants in the survey were Northeast Florida clergy who work in church districts of various
denominations.
Procedures
The sample was obtained by asking permission from individual to conduct this research. After
obtaining his approval, the survey packets that included a cover letter, demographic questionnaire
and burnout inventory were distributed to the participants who in early April 2016. Although
approximately 50 survey packets were sent to pastors in the area. Only 26 participants (52%)
completed the survey with usable data for the research. Some of the pastors have of a traditional,
conservative character, some declined to answer the questionnaire by saying that the subject does
not apply to them. Moreover, five were not in a paid pastoral position, six were not pastors, and two
were incomplete.

After graduation, I searched for jobs and most of the time I froze up in the interviews. The only
interview I nailed was an interview for teaching position for Duval County School Board. Therefore,
I became a part of the teaching profession in the fall of 1998 teaching Biology, Algebra I, Physical
Science, and Chemistry in different years up until 2001. Additional, I was a science adjunct
professor for two years at Florida Community College in Jacksonville. I started the five year process

The topics on spiritual formation and assimilation in our churches were extremely beneficial. I have
come to learn and understand why self–care is critical for any leader. I never realized how
dangerous it is if a person is always saying yes to different meetings and commitments in ministry. I

My regional minister stopped the conversation and asked me, "What did you just say your metaphor
for ministry was again?" I replied, with a confidence I had not felt since I left my high school math
classroom, "An empowering agent of hope." Although a year had passed since writing about my
metaphors and functions for ministry, for the first time, I claimed my metaphor to my ordination
council not quite a month ago. Through the lens of empowerment and hope, and within my current
context of rural congregational ministry, this semester of considering issues for women in Christian

The second paper, written by David Norris, focuses mainly on the history of Pentecostal women in
ministry. He gave a brief mention to the emergence of Holiness women preachers, and then fast–
forwards to the Pentecostal movement. Because many of the people involved in the Pentecostal

Our Church Has A Teaching / Worship Model For Teenagers
Our church has a teaching/worship model for teenagers that are different from most ministries.
Everyone starts worship corporately, which includes praise and worship, invocation prayer, songs,
announcements and greeting. We also recite a Bible creed, after which teenagers are released to
continue their worship separately. The teen worship includes Bible study. One of the purposes for
using this model is to allow teenagers the freedom to be taught in a manner that is more conducive
to fostering dialogue. Observing teenagers in the corporate worship, I noticed that they were
disengaged.
This detachment presented itself in several ways: some were texting with their cell phones, other
were talking among themselves, while others were looking off into space. Only a few seemed to be
involved in the worship by participating or paying attention to the person speaking at the podium.
They followed the prescribed format of the worship as in standing at the designated time, turning to
scriptures when directed, and bowing their heads for prayer. At the point in worship when the
congregation moves out of their seats to greet each other, I noticed teenagers actively even joyfully

or worthless?
People tend to pull out the worst with those that are trying to assist them with situations in their
lives. When that happens, one may get the notion to say something that is harmful or out of order
that could hurt their feelings. One such incident was when I was talking with my step dad about his
brother. He stated that his brother is stubborn and does not want to take instruction very well. My
dad stated that he is tempted to tell him that he is, "hard headed," when it comes to instructions, to

LEADING THROUGH CRISIS
It has been said time and time again that "everyone is either going into, coming out of, or in the
midst of a crisis." There are certain crises that can be expected, while there are those that come as a
surprise. Times of crisis demand that one step up to lead. Those who desire to be ready to step up to
the plate during such a time will benefit by being prepared for crises, as well as maximizing any and
all resources available to them (Echols, 132). What can leaders do to be better prepared to face a
crisis when it comes, and they will come? Before the discussion continues one must understand that
there are two leadership stances: transformational and servant leadership. Steve Echols notes, "The
ultimate purpose of servant leadership is not only to serve but also to see transformation" (134).
When one operates from both of these stances, "transformational leadership results in service, while
servant leadership results in transformation" (135). These stances provide the foundation from
which a leader utilizes competencies, of which there are seven: spiritual, assuring, visionary,
decisive, emphatic, empowering, and creative. The context of the leader will determine what
competency will be employed. According to Echols, "Stylistic competency a leader employs should
emerge from intimate knowledge of the followers as well as insight about the prevailing situation

The premise of Cannister's book is that when teenagers matter, everything changes in student
ministry. Cannister uses the introduction to look at four basic core principles that have lasted almost
a century. First there is having a clarity of purpose which, without, a youth ministry will crumble.
Second is exemplifying authentic leadership. This is not someone being perfect but genuine with
youth. Third is the overall goal: transformation of lives. Lastly there is creating and maintaining
genuine relationships with students. These four core principles have been "beacons of light" for
youth pastors/ministries for decades. In chapter one, Cannister claims that when teenagers matter,
student ministries will thrive. Cannister begins by showing what most churches are doing by
outlining the "good enough" principle, a mentality and form of organization that states that 80% of
youth/parents will be satisfied with only 20% of the effort, much like a consumer. Cannister,
however, advocates for a comprehensive youth ministry or a ministry that does not just focus on
safety, what the parents want, or only the Christian community but one that will go out and reach the
lost integrating them into the Christian family. A comprehensive youth ministry can only come

looked to as the leader, the head teacher, and the lead counselor to a specific local assembly. But a
pastor's not just the leader of a local church. It's important to examine how the Bible defines a
pastor. The word used for "pastor" in Ephesians 4 literally means "shepherd." The same word is used
in 1 Peter 5 when Peter instructs the elders to "shepherd the flock of God." For this reason, we can

Typically, these genres reek with legalistic notions that stir away from the gospel, but Piper reach to

Elderly Outreach Ministries: A Case Study
For the ministry of my choice, I chose Elderly Outreach Ministries. This was largely due to a
scheduling conflict with nearly all other service projects (I have lab 2 nights a week from 6–9).

I feel confident when it comes to planning a sermons series. The in class activity helped me. In class

group that preached through a book. As we spent time reading through the book looking for natural
divisions and discussion, I was able to understand some aspect that I should employ in my person
ministry. Dr. Bryson's text, Expository Preaching, was probably the best resource. I liked how he
walks readers through the process of how to preach through a book. By the end of the book one
