2. WHAT IS AID?
• Aid is the voluntary transfer of resources from one
country to another, for beneficial purposes.
• Aid is usually provided by rich countries to poorer
countries.
3. TYPES OF AID
• There are two main types of aid:
o Humanitarian – This is aid which is provided during
times of unforeseen accidents or events e.g.
earthquakes .
o Development – This aid sent constantly to a very poor
country for better living conditions.
4. FAMOUS AID AGENCIES
• There are numerous aid-providing organizations which
struggle to provide resources to the less fortunate.
• Some examples are:
o USAID
o UKAID
o Christian Aid
o Oxfam
o Save The Children
o Amnesty International
o UNICEF
5. IS AID IMPORTANT?
• Several people debate whether or not to provide aid.
Below are some reasons why we should:
o It is our duty to help the people who are less fortunate than us.
o Any surplus of resources can be sent as aid, as it’s helping
someone.
o Providing aid to a country allows its economic strength to
increase and produce better goods, which are usually sent to
rich countries.
6. WHY NOT?
• Here are some reasons why sending of aid is opposed
by many people:
o The aid frequently goes into the wrong hands.
o As we give aid continuously, the poor people will get used to this
luxury and become lazy.
o Usually there are more pressing problems in the world then
nourishing a country e.g. terrorism.
