Mahaviharaya Abhayagiriya
Mahaviharaya.
The Mahavihara (Pali for "Great Monastery") was an important
monastery for Theravada Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It was founded by
king Devanampiya Tissa (247–207 BCE) in his capital Anuradhapura.
Pali Canon was written by Buddhagosa in Mahaviharaya.

Maha Vihara tradition always tried to protect what the Buddha taught.

Abhayagiriya
Abhayagiriya was built by king Walagamba for rev Tissa thero.
Time:
After bulding Mahaviharaya years 217 months 10 days 10.

 The first privet monastery
 Kula sanghattha ch opens.
 Writing thiripitaka.
 International monstery
 They accept any tradion (Vytulyvaldaya,Dharmaruci,
Maha sanghika , Sagalika)
• Monks were treat well by King and ministers , so monks
nuemorously incriesed than mahaviharaya.
(mahawansa 33.99)
Jethavanaya.
• Jetavanaya was built by king Mahasena (274-301b.c) for
Sanghamitra.
• For building Jetanaya, king Mahasena destroyed 374
temple in mahaviharaya.
Sixty vytully monks were exiled by king Meghavarna, so King mahasena
destroyed mahaviharaya according to advice of Sanghamitra.

Sixty vytully monks were exiled and cleaned the order by king Gothabhaya,
so king Mahasena destroyed the mahaviharaya according to advice of
Sanghamitra

• Mayurapada pirivena was built by king Buddhadasa.
• Ruined building size 66*45.
