Turn Up AC
What Are The Best Settings For My AC?
You are ready to leave for the day. Do you turn off the
A/C or turn it up? This is a big decision to make, and one
that you may have made many times before. It is our
suggestion that you turn the A/C up at the beginning of the
day and not off.
Still not convinced and think we at AirDynamics HVAC are only wanting you to spend more
money? More on this bit in a few minutes.
It is actually best to turn your A/C up about seven to 10 degrees while away. If you still need
convincing, keep reading for our three reasons why it is a solid suggestion.
#1 – No mold and bugs
The optimal home’s humidity is about 45 – 55 percent. Anything higher than 55 percent and two
nasties will take hold in your home. Mold and bugs love a home with humidity over 55 percent.
Your home A/C system does more than just cool. It keeps your humidity under 55 percent.
#2 – Comfort is king
The majority of emergency calls we at Air Dynamics HVAC get is because the A/C has stopped
working. No one wants to sit at home in hot humidity – it is very uncomfortable and for some,
dangerous. If the A/C was out at the end of September, it may not be that big of a deal. This is
August. The dog days of summer have a strong foothold.
So, this leads us to the third reason, and what is likely the best reason.
#3 – Turning up the thermostat saves you money

We have your full attention now, I see. Good.
You can save up to 10 percent a month on your electric bill just by boosting the thermostat seven
degrees or so before you leave the house each day.
What you are doing is reducing the temperatures between the outside and inside of your home.
This means the HVAC unit will not have to work as hard to perform its daily tasks.
Consider the following:
Leave work at 7 a.m. – Turn A/C up to 83.
Come home at 5:30 p.m. – Turn A/C down to 75.
The unit has to work to lower the temperature eight degrees. This is nothing serious.
Now, let’s say you turn the A/C off completely.
Leave work at 7 a.m. – A/C is at 75.
Come home at 5:30 p.m. – Home is now 90+ degrees with humidity.
Now the unit has to work extra hard to lower the temperature and fight the humidity. It is simply
not worth it to turn your A/C off during the day.

We will be glad to do a full inspection to make ready for the coming fall.
