  1. 1. Propaganda Strategies in spreading the word: Fighting Against Global Warming WTUC 2007
  2. 2. Task <ul><li>Students (in groups) work on Propaganda Strategies in spreading the word to stop global warming. They produce any of the following environmentally-themed…: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>30-sec or 1-minute jingle + Poster/Clip arts, banners </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>30-sec or 1-minute Environment Advocacy Ad + Poster/Clip arts, banners </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>(Ad is created using windows movie maker, PowerPoint, voice over narration, and music) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Through these visual/audio projects, students clearly show the importance of taking care of the environment around us and help propagate the call for action to stop global warming. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Task <ul><li>Students write a group essay that describes their group strategies. </li></ul><ul><li>You will be using this material during the live conference presentation </li></ul>

Guidelines <ul><li>Class is divided into 4 groups, 5 members each </li></ul><ul><li>Each group will produce 2 commercials with corresponding poster/clip art/ banner </li></ul><ul><li>Save your essay, commercials and posters on a CD for submission on the 20th. This will be credited for your final grade. </li></ul>

Instructions for Presentations <ul><li>For the live video conferencing, you need to choose 2-3 members to present one commercial and briefly explain the following: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>What the Head and slogan are about in relation to the Main Theme/Message </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Describe the ‘story’/illustration of the ad </li></ul></ul>

Groupings for the Conference <ul><li>Group A (You need to state that you will be presenting 2 studies) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>2-3 students from Group 1 (Study 1) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2-3 students from Group 2 (Study 2) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Group B (You need to state that you will be presenting 2 studies) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>2-3 students from Group 3 (Study 1) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2-3 students from Group 3 (Study 2) </li></ul></ul>

These widely recognized slogans from national public service announcement campaigns by the Ad Council have become a part of our culture. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Get your Message Out <ul><li>While the above examples were all big-budget campaigns, your own public service announcements (also known as PSA's) -- even if they're a small, locally-produced campaign -- can be a great inexpensive way to get your message out to the public. </li></ul>
