Renaissance Mamas Research Paper
Page 1: My mama has been working on the renaissance clothes all week, and now we are in the car.
Driving to the Renaissance Festival. My sister was wearing an auburn red dress with pretty patterns
and frills all over her dress. My mama was wearing a royal green dress with necklaces and lace that
covered her. Papa was wearing a simple lords siamese, trousers, vest, cloak, and hat. While I wore a
royal blue dress matched with a beautiful necklace, and my hair done on intricate braids as ribbons
were also going through my hair.
'This car ride had to be the longest one i've ever been on.' I thought to myself as I looked out the
window. The scenery was dull and there was a long line of cars were in front of us, do to the fact
that the renaissance festival was so popular amongst the public. "Almost everyone dresses up,"
mama explained to papa, as he was itching his legs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That's when my sister, who is in love with dragons, saw a win a prize for one dollar at a dragon pet
shop. I thought it was bogus. Nobody ever gets a good prize when it comes to that stuff. Alas my
sister found this out when she spent a dollar and only got a wooden egg. Of course then papa asked
me if I wanted to try and get a souvenir like Amanda's, I thought 'what the heck, why not'. I wound
up getting a baby dragon, and the head moved. I couldn't believe it.
Page 6: I wanted to see the fairy. I didn't want to go anywhere else yet. So papa took me and when I
saw her, she was beautiful. Unfortunately, she couldn't speak, but she had a flute that she would play
as an answer. She gave my sister and I a fairy stone.
Page 7: We then walked some more and we decided to get a drink and snack. We went from booth to
booth. We saw a chocolate strawberry shop and got some lemonade to go with it. We went and sat
under the pavilion and ate. We went and got on this huge ship like swing with a unicorn on the end. I
cannot remember what the name of it was now.

My Reflection On My Experience
My First reflection of my Chinese experience
I intensely remember my first trip to China one year ago. I was just a few weeks into my
appointment as Adviser to the Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and
Entrepreneurship. I was given the opportunity and privilege to work with this extraordinary
professional, and my perception of China was at the time was still quite asymmetrical.
I took office in my new position, just a couple of months since my return from the Expo Milan 2015
Universal Exhibition, where I served as Director of the Albanian Pavilion throughout the six
intensive months of its duration.
Albania was participating for the first time with a self–made pavilion, and was part of the Sicilian

Every week there would be a food tasting from each Chinese region. At the same time such regions
would showcase they're most particular emphasis on the local culture such as in songs or theatre.
I knew for a fact through many stories told to me in a legendary fashion when I was younger, that at
some point in time during the 1960s and 70s, especially after both countries split with Russia, the
relationships between China and Albania was so close that Albania was considered the only "beacon
of light" and friendship in Europe. I had also heard that this special relationship was so exclusive,
that culturally both countries had shared their music and cinematography during those years.
Consequently there I was, in the Chinese Pavilion, in the middle of one of the biggest and most
important worldwide international events, talking to someone who could remind himself of a
socialist era Albanian movie, and explaining me how most of the Chinese at the time were so fond
of the Albanian cinematography, that some of them could still remember the popular Albanian
national liberation greeting "death to the fascists, freedom to the people". I was astounded.
While I was preparing for my trip to China, a bilateral ministerial meeting in Ningbo, I did a resume
of the bilateral agreements and the cooperation between the two countries. I was astound to find that
they were covering pretty much any

Tale Of Two Cities Case Analysis
Charles Dickens opening to a Tale Of Two Cities is the perfect to judge the Celtics 16–17 season.
The Celtics had the best of times with Isisiah Thomas having a historic season, and becoming one of
the most beloved Celtics of All–Time. Their best of times continued with them over achieving and
overtaking the Cavs record wise as the best team in the Eastern Conference. Their worst of times
wouldn't come to fruition until deep into their playoff run with the death of Thomas sister, and his

Four years later the fruits of this trade is still paying off for Boston. Boston has the number pick in
the draft, and they have so many options they can go with. Markelle Fultz Is the consensus number 1
pick on most mock drafts boards. He has the potential to be so great that recent rumors had Boston
trading their current superstar Thomas in favor for Fultz. I think Fultz and Thomas can coexist in the
same backcourt, Fultz was a point guard in college, however I think he will thrive in the NBA as
shooting guard with everyone playing small ball. Fultz doesn't need Thomas to create a shot for him,
he can create his own shot off the dribble, and if Thomas is out the game he can be the teams
primary ball handler, and the second option on offense. Fultz fits into the modern NBA because he
shoots the three at a decent rate, and he can slash and attack the rim like James Harden. If the Nets
continue to struggle just like they did this year Boston might have another top 3 pick coming their
way in

Peony Pavilion Essay
I would like to discuss Peony Pavilion which written by Ming dynasty author Tang Xian–zu. It was
a variety play that described the protagonist, Du Li–niang, met her ideal husband, Liu Meng–Long,
in her dream and overcame hardships to finally be with him. Since it was shared dreams between Du
and Liu which brought them together, there were many scenes related to their dreams throughout the
script. After the time first time she met Liu Meng–mei in her illusion, she could not stop thinking of
him. She described him as "young and winsome, for her must chosen" (Owen 886). However, in
reality she did not meet anyone like this charming Liu. She could only find her mother persuade her
to do some needlework or readings when she was awake (Ibid 890).

World War II And Its Impact On Japan
After World War II, new influences and ideals started to make an impact on Japan like never before.
Japan's defeat resulted in westernization, and the country started to transform into what it is known
for today–modern manufacturing for countries all over the world. Many traditionalists disapproved
of this idea of transitioning into being iconic for materialistic and bourgeois ideologies and now felt
isolated within their own country because their views were extremely different from the new views
generated from this change. Yukio Mishima's discomfort with Japan's conversion to westernization,
lack of military and political influence is evident as his main point in The Sailor Who Fell from
Grace with the Sea. Traditional Japanese beliefs had been built off of the ideas of honor, death, and
glory, and Mishima believed that, with this transition into modern Japan, a so called "lack of glory"
became prevalent. Through the characters of Noboru and Ryuji, Mishima incorporates the theme of
alienation to highlight his own life experiences, feelings and disapproval during Japan's transition to
modernization.
Noboru's purpose as a character is to embody the effects of westernization on traditional thinking.
By constructing a peculiarly different lifestyle based upon psychopathic misguidance, fears, hatred,
confusion, and contrasting opinions within his new family, Noboru alienates himself from the
changing world around him. The first cause to this change is through the

Alltel Essay
1. How would you describe the competitive strategy of the ALLTEL Pavilion? Given the firm's
strategy, what are the most important Key Performance Indicators (e.g., quantitative measures) for
the Pavilion to track and manage if it is to achieve its goal of continuous annual growth in operating
income?
ALLTEL Pavilion is operated by SFX Entertainment in an outdoor atmosphere for its customers.
ALLTEL attempts to create a competitive advantage as the major outdoor concert venue in the
"Triangle" area of North Carolina consisting of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The amphitheater
has art–like acoustics and video differentiating the venue with trying to keep costs budgeted for each
concert. The Key Performance Indicators are based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. How many tickets must ALLTEL Pavilion sell to earn $30,000 operating income after taxes,
assuming a 40 percent tax rate?
Is it reasonable to assume this level of operating income will be achieved? Briefly explain. $30,000 /
(1–0.40) = 4x($40.08–$3.05) + 1x($13.09–$3.05) – $263,245 $30,000 / (1–0.40) = x($158.16) –
$265,245 $30,000 = x($94.896) – $157,947 $187,947 = x($94.896) x = 1980.5577 tickets
1(1980.5577) = 1981 comp tickets 4(1980.5577) = 7923 paying tickets in order to earn $30,000
Operating Income after taxes The total number of 7923 paying tickets is reasonable to be achieved,
although it is above the number of 7000 tickets that the reserved seating can actually hold at
ALLTEL Pavilion.
3. What should be the average ticket price (for all ticket types combined––A through D) for the
KFBS concert if the fixed–pay fee is $200,000 (rather than $160,635) and the Pavilion expects to
sell 7,000 tickets and wants to earn $30,000 operating income after 40 percent in taxes?
After you estimate the average ticket price for all ticket types combined (which is $22.12 for the
situation depicted in Exhibit 2), estimate the price for each type of seat (i.e., in Exhibit 2: A–$36.29,
B––$22.22, C––$11.31, D––$4.92). [Hint: assume the sales mix for A, B, C, and D seats remains the
same as the mix in the Flash Report (Exhibit 2).] $30,000 / (1–0.40) = 7000 ($13.09 – $3.05)

context in which to examine strategic issues in using cost volume profit (CVP) in a service business.
Based on an actual entertainment pavilion, the case develops many factors unique to a service

Pace Entertainment and Cellar Door Inc. of Raleigh, NC had the initial contract to manage the
Pavilion. Hardee's Food Systems, Inc. of Rocky Mount, NC, the original sponsor of the
amphitheater, paid an annual fee to carry its name and logo on all signs and ads regarding the
amphitheater. On February 3, 1999 ALLTEL Corp (http://tel.com) became the title sponsor for the
amphitheater. The demand for the outdoor facility came about because the rapidly growing city of
Raleigh lacked a major entertainment complex. In the late 1980s Pace Entertainment and the city of
Raleigh came to an agreement to build the facility. The city of Raleigh would own the land while
Pace Entertainment would own the facility and assume sole operations of the facility; Cellar Door

What Is The Mood Of The Sound Of Waves
Setting is an extremely important element in stories and understanding it adds more depth in the
overall comprehension an author's intentions. In the pastoral romance novel The Sound of Waves by
Yukio Mishima, the author uses the beautiful scenery as an important element to the story. The main
protagonist, Shinji, has many connections to nature and the ocean throughout the story. Yukio
Mishima uses the setting to provide a better understanding of his characters and to express the
power of nature.
Yukio Mishima is able to show the deep connection between Shinji and nature which he
accomplishes by using colorful imagery and metaphorical language. The island is isolated from the
rest of the world, and this makes it less modernized then a city ... Show more content on

Yukio Mishima uses visual imagery of the ocean and the crashing waves around the island to help
describe the peaceful or violent nature of the sea. The author then uses similes and metaphors to
relate Shinji to the ocean. This helps express Shinji as being a strong character who embraces
nature. Nature is described to be calm and serene. The use of personification was used to
demonstrate how Shinji had become close to nature as one would a human being. Nature is what
comforts Shinji since it provides him with his job, money, and food. Once Hatsue's father Terukichi
offers Shinji a chance to marry Hatsue, Shinji learns that the sea is also a place for exploration and
trials. Shinji displays his fearless character by jumping into the typhoon raged sea to attach a rope to
a buoy. Yukio Mishima uses the motif of the crashing waves to show how Shinji's feelings sync with
the raging fury of the storm and his love for Hatsue rages as well. The storm symbolizes Shinji's
longing to be with Hatsue. Like a violent storm Shinji is angry and depressed because he could not
see his lover. The rain could symbolize his tears and lament while the power and vigor of the storm
could show his growing love for Hatsue. The perilous sea was a fitting arena for Shinji to
demonstrate his qualities of strength, endurance, courage, and self–sacrifice. Mishima's detailed

The City Of The Chicago City
The Cloud Gate that is also called The Bean, is the best attraction in the Chicago city. As so many
tourists come from different region of world to visit the Chicago city, they see that shiny bean as a
selfie place. The bean is in Millennium Park which is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with free
admission. The visitors traveling can get to the park using primary Chicago public transportations
either bus or subway. Using CTA, one can take red line subway train to Randolph and from there it
is a short walk. The bean is the centerpiece of AT&T plaza at millennium park, and it get extremely
busy in weekends. It is surrounded by huge tall building which are reflected on the bean by various
shapes. As people go around the city, they see different sculptures all around, but some people think
that the Cloud Gate is the Chicago's icon. The tourist does not miss to see that icon because it 's a
place for taking memorable pictures and looking at the skyline of the Chicago city on the bright

A Day At The Technology Student Association State Conference
The day my life flashed before my eyes started as though it was any other day at the Technology
Student Association State Conference. The day started out with anticipation and excitement for the
competitive events held that day. The only competitive event I was to participate in was the
Electrathon race, which was scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event
where we race student designed go–kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt
batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery

pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving
my hotel room and stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day.
As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for the events to come
that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center. Weaving through the crowds of
people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped onto the
escalator and headed down, my mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I stepped off
the escalator and weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. When I arrived at Grand

Reflective Statement
My understanding of the novel The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with The Sea written by Yukio
Mishima was considerably furthered by the interactive oral. My ideas on the text before compared to
my thoughts after the oral were greatly different.
One of the major talking points of the interactive oral was the how the author voiced his own
personal thoughts. Most works of literature convey some of the author's personal thoughts and
interests however in this novel Mishima conveys a sense of despair as too the state of Japan after
their defeat in World War Two. In the oral we collectively as a group discussed that Mishima
despised what Japan had become and how this was conveyed in the text.
This westernisation of Japan was represented in the novel by the character of Ryuji Tsukazaki who
after beginning the story as an honourable sailor "one of the only true things permissible" according
to the group of savage boys become nothing but a glorified house maid. The young boy, Noburu,
reflects Mishima's personal views on the subject by demonstrating the old code of bushido when he
says "how can this man be saying things like that this splendid hero who once shone so brightly?" .
In the oral we discussed how this quote was a metaphor for what Ryuji and to a larger extent what
Japan had become in real life.
A further instance in which the interactive oral

Essay about Le Corbusier: Philips Pavilion, Brussels, 1958
Le Corbusier: Philips Pavilion, Brussels, 1958
Located in a small site next to the Dutch section and away from the center of the fair, the pavilion
hosted a futuristic multimedia display featuring images, colored lighting and music and sounds
called the "Poème Electronique." Some of the greatest artistic minds of the twentieth century were
involved in its creation, including the architect Le Corbusier (1887–1965) and the composer Edgard
Varèse (1883–1965). But most importantly, the Philips Pavilion represented an important artistic
phenomenon through its synthesis of architecture, visual media and music.
The purpose of the pavilion was to exhibit the technology of the Philips corporation, a Dutch

Philips executives no doubt expected a first–class design from Le Corbusier, but they also expected
him to direct the entire concept of the Poème Electronique and all of its images and lighting, in
addition to the architecture. In effect, Philips gave Le Corbusier carte blanche to create their
pavilion, insisting only that he utilize the various technological media the company was producing.
Le Corbusier's involvement in the Philips Pavilion is often overestimated. In reality, most of the
designing was carried out by his collaborator Yannis Xenakis (b.1922), a Greek architect and music
composer working in Le Corbusier's office at the time. Xenakis would later become famous for his
use of rigorous mathematical concepts and relationships in his music, but at this time was not well
known. This may be part of the reason that he receives less recognition for the design than he
probably deserves, coupled with Le Corbusier's prestige and public exaggerations of his own role.
Le Corbusier was more concerned with what was going on inside the pavilion and cared little about
its exterior appearance. Even the spectacle inside was not completely his own, for the music was by
Edgard Varèse, a well–known composer at the time and a pioneer in the field of electronic music

The Space Of Millennium Park
The space of Millennium Park is defined by rows of trees which outline the perimeter of the park on
all four sides. The trees on the outline of the park create a buffer between the park and the busy city
streets. Internally, the trees within the park serve as a dividing barrier for smaller spaces/attractions,
allowing different spaces to communicate different functions and ideas. A majority of space within
Millennium Park all rise above the human scale. The surrounding buildings and skyscrapers serve as
a reminder of how little we are compared to the vast size of the city. Interesting, although humans
are small relatively compared to the park. The surroundings reflect what we are capable of and the

Boundaries within the garden are created through the trees and hedged on the outer perimeter. Inside
the park, the limestone curbs/walls define the spaces that the plants occupy. They also serve as
barriers in order to prevent visitors from going directly into the garden.
Spaces like the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the Great Lawn individually create space through division
of territory. The Great Lawn is defined by a large area of cut grass. The enormous space welcomes
onlookers from every direction of the park. It's flat and soft surface allows visitors to freely dictate
how they want to use the space, ranging from relaxing to engage in physical activities. The Jay
Pritzker Pavilion defines itself separately from the Great Lawn by using cement as a surface instead
of grass. Individuals that occupy this space are welcomed by a fixed seating area, unlike the lawn
where people can freely occupy a space. Collectively, the two spaces are hard to miss, because they
tower over a majority of trees and sculpture in the park. Relative to the human scale, the metal
frames and interlocking steel pipes that stretch across the Great Lawn mimic the ambiance of an
indoor concert hall.

If one has a trustworthy relationship with their athletes and has open communication channels to

The Story Of The Western Wing, The Peony Pavilion, And The...
In traditional Chinese theater, females, and particularly young girls, are perceived as property. Their
role in society is to get married to a male from another family of equal or higher social status. In
fact, the role of a woman is so set and stone that no matter how they were brought up, whether or
not they are noble or educated, does not seem to contribute to their destined fate. The traditional
Chinese society is so specific and consistent in determining the fate of females based on social
hierarchy that females seem to have no choice in the matter. Often, the decision is made by their
parents and the females are forced to simply comply. In three classic Chinese operas, The Story of
the Western Wing, The Peony Pavilion, and The Peach Blossom Fan, the main female characters
strive to move against societal norms by choosing their own destinies, hence choosing their male
partners. The classics make this freedom so valuable to the point that it is almost unachievable. By
creating female leads who fight against their own destinies, authors of each play use irony to
criticize traditional Chinese social structure. To show this irony, three heroines whom are all upper
class, educated, and very sheltered by their families and societal role of a woman are struck by grief
when deciding to choose their own fate. Although the freedom and approval of love should be
considered a premium lifestyle for its time, the impossible nature of the opportunity leads to

Reflection Paper
Our excursion to Japan was full of inspiring and fulfilling experiences for me. The foremost part of
our journey, to Tokushima and the Awagami Factory, was what I was initially so excited for.
Between my studies of printmaking, papermaking, and Japanese art history– Awagami was the
initial anticipated zenith of my trip to Japan.
It was an absolute dream come true. Paper has long been a fascination of mine as it's a printmaker's
primary medium. Awagami washi paper is renowned among printmakers and the opportunity to
partake in the traditional process from collection, cleaning, preparation, and completion into the
final thin yet strong sheets of washi paper was wonderful. I was so inspired by the facility and the
process that I made sure to take detailed notes in the hope of continuing my own papermaking
process back in the United States.
Another occurrence that has altered my own artistic practices and inspired me for future art works–
including our final sculptural pieces for this class– was our trip to Inujima Island and the Inujima
Seirensho Art Museum. The second piece we encountered, a piece entitled "Solar Rock" by Yukinori
Yanagi which used pieces of Yukio Mishima's Shoto home, was an influential piece into my own
practices. The larger than life, imagined, presence of this piece was achieved through the
"expanded" walls of a theoretical home. The mind fills in the gap left by the lack of walls to create a
house upon a rock. This speaks to author Yukio Mishima's

Butterfly Pavilion Research Paper
During this Fall semester, I went to the Butterfly Pavilion, and it had a lot of unique and cool
insects. There were different sections and they all had a theme. First, the "Crawl a See Em" section
which had insects like; mantids, bees, and tarantulas. I am terrified of spiders so my boyfriend had
to hold Rosie the tarantula. Also, they had this huge bee hive where bees from outside were able to
go inside and out because there was a tube that connected the outside and inside. The next section
was uniquely called "Water Edge," where you were able to touch some sea animals like a starfish.
Next, was my favorite room of the whole Pavilion, the "Wings of the Tropics," it was where you
could interact with beautiful butterflies. There were countless

Hopeless Love : Act Of Worship
Hopeless love: Act of Worship "When the coffee came, she held out the silver sugar bowl for him to
help himself from first, and as he took it their fingertips came into brief contact. She apologized
immediately, but a suspicion plagued her that he had seen the contact as premeditated on her part. It
continued to plague her in the maddening heat on the train, so that every time the steady waving of
the professor's fan suddenly stopped her heart seemed to stop with it. She had never reacted in this
way before. Perhaps the sense of responsibility she'd felt ever since the train had left Tokyo Station
had made her oversensitive? The incident, for which there was no way of apologizing naturally,
continued to weigh on her till, combining with the heat, it made it impossible for her to enjoy the
scenery outside." In Yukio Mishima's short story Act of Worship we see Tsuneko, a housekeeper of
Professor Fujimiya, accompanying him on a pilgrimage to the Kumano shrines in the professor's
hometown. Along the way she begins to feel uneasy towards everything. There could possibly be a
more hidden meaning behind why Tsuneko is anxious. This paper argues the possibility the Tsuneko
is possibly falling for the Professor. Let's start at the beginning, Tsuneko admits that the only
relationship between the Professor and herself is strictly business. However, we're all human and

Personal Narrative: Gexa Energy Pavilion
"We're here!" Addie and I screamed as we pulled into the parking lot of Gexa Energy Pavilion. My
best friend and I were finally there to see our favorite band (which we have wanted to see since
summer before 4th grade). The line was super long but it was 100 percent worth it. We walked up to
the grass area and laid our towels out to sit down. About 30min later, the opening acts (Roy English
and Hey Violet) preformed. We waited about 30 more min. and all of this sudden, we heard drums.
It was them. The moment we had been waiting for since 4th grade. Addie and I were jumping and
screaming so much that we had to take off our shoes! About 5 songs after the concert started, a

Descriptive Essay About Simpson Park
Have you ever been somewhere that you loved? A place where it was time to leave, but you didn't
want to go? Where you fit right in and could be yourself? Where friends became family in a week?
Where the atmosphere is positive? Maybe you haven't experienced this place, maybe you have. I
have been to many places, but the place I love best is Simpson Park. This place so innocent and
sweet can bring many people into one unity with Christ. Simpson Park Youth Camp isn't just a
camp, it is more than one thing. Simpson Park is a home, a tabernacle, a place where being yourself
and worshipping God isn't frowned upon. Where what you wear doesn't matter, what you look like,
or who your friends are. This beautiful place can do many miraculous things. People become
followers, relationships with friends and Christ get renewed, where your faith is built up. New
things can be nerve wracking, but when I got to Simpson Park Youth Camp all the butterflies flew
away. Coming from church and receiving a blessing from the Northland United Pastor, I was very
nervous. Now that I was there I was excited and overjoyed. The two hour drive to Romeo was
already worth it. I gazed out the window and saw what looked like a tiny village laid before my
eyes. When I stepped out of the car I felt the atmosphere change, it was like I stepped into a magical
realm. Miranda and I walked to the Office and are greeted by our other friends. Suddenly I see

substantial competitors in the geographic region, they are looking to create an "experience" for the

Marketing efforts. They are focused on the making the venue and each event as profitable as

So it is $37.03 per customer * The contribution for each comp customer is $10.04= $13.09

37.03Q + 10.04 (.25Q) = $263,245 (total fixed costs)
At breakeven, Q=6,658 paying customers who will be in attendance with an additional .25 x 6,658 =
1,665 comp customers.
3) The breakeven analysis is likely to be more important for a fixed fee performer because the fixed
costs are higher (because of the talent cost), and there is a greater risk from poor attendance at the
event.
The question of whether the Pavilion would prefer fixed fee or per capita performers would vary
depending on the popularity of the performer. If they could choose only one type, they should prefer
to pay for talent on a per capita basis because the risk is shared with the performer and the low
operating leverage would protect from huge losses. However, it should be noted that Alltel would
benefit from paying popular artists on a fixed fee basis as the anticipated large attendance would
well exceed the breakeven point and become more profitable for the venue.
4) A sensitivity analysis could help Alltel pavilion assess potential risks/rewards associated with
changes in costs or sales volume. A What–if analysis would be helpful to determine profits given
variations in sales. If the pavilion had a strong inclination as to the draw of a particular artist, this
would give them the

Textual Analysis : ' Rama ' Essay
Textual Analysis:
Love in these texts is quite superficial, as the driving force behind these feelings of love is physical
appearance. In each of the four stories, for example, the characters fall in love within seconds of
simply seeing a person. They become instantaneously attached, and they start thinking about how to
turn their feelings into marriage. In the Ramayana, Rama and Sita see each other in the same
moment, Rama from the street and Sita from her balcony. Narayan describes a tension–filled scene
where they stare at each other and revel in each other's beauty (Narayan 23). Sita's wishes for
marriage to Rama are then made clear when she hears that someone met her father's condition and,
in turn, won her hand in marriage. She expresses her hopes that Rama is the one who did this, asking
her maid "Do you know if this is the same man who struck me down with a look as he passed along
the street? If it is someone else, I will end my life" (Narayan 28). Similarly, in The Recognition of
Śakuntalā, King Dusyanata sees Śakuntalā and is so intrigued by her beauty that he automatically
expresses his resentment for her difference in class because it would be a hindrance to their
marriage. He does not let this stop him, though, as he says: "Indeed if only she could be the child of
the bramin holy man and a woman of a different class. But why should I worry? Truly, if my noble
heart desires her, that makes her fit to be a prince's wife, for the wise man trusts his heart to lead

Patriotism by Yukio Mishima Essay
"Patriotism" by Yukio Mishima
Death, in many places death is feared, taking one's own life is looked upon as cowardly and weak.
This story sheds a different light on death; it shows the honor and respectful way of bowing out. To
see the honor in death, one must understand the culture and the time period. The story 'Patriotism'
written by Yukio Mishima shows a couple?s courage, love and faith as well as the man?s
commitment to his country.
As the story goes, Shinji is a member of the Imperil forces. Shinji has taken an oath to fight for his
country; his honor depends on his commitment. He will fight to death and risk his life whenever

This part of the story shows how helpless women are in this society, and how dependant they are.
This, as a continuing tradition, could drag Japan down in comparisons of equality and individuality.
In their last night together on this earth, Shinji and Rieko find faith, the truth and pure love. In their
preparation for death Shinji places the ultimate trust in his wife, asking her to watch his death and
then commit to her own. During this time the love for each other becomes pure and intoxicating.
They both embrace their faith as they value the little time left with each other that ultimately turns
into the death of two young and beautiful people. Whether or not they may have pure love, It seems
that much is influenced because of their impending death, death in this case acts like a drug, a drug
that makes them feel more than they would or should.
This story is very insightful into a different culture and its perceptions of death. It shows that
commitment and faith can take precedence to life itself. I think this story is timeless and could be
applied as a measuring tool for commitment and honor in most societies. Love brings two people
together and then takes their lives. I think this story glamorizes and distorts the reality of suicide and
death. It seems to say, ?This is OK? go ahead. I think people should live until, well they are dead

Myrtle Beach Vacation
Have you ever wondered what Myrtle Beach has to offer for its tourists? Well I'm about to tell you.
Every year I go on vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a week. We usually leave a few
days after Christmas and come back a few days after New Years. I go with my grandma, grandpa,
aunt, uncle, and some of my cousins. We have been going on this vacation for about six years, but at
first it only started out as us going down for the weekend. The first two years we went to Myrtle
Beach it was just me and my grandma and grandpa, but after that year some more of my family
started to come down with us. This past year I had to wake up around 5 o'clock so that I could get
ready in time to leave early. The first thing I did was take a shower, then I finished packing my bags,
and finally I got ready to leave. My grandma came and picked me up around 5:45 and we headed to
her house. Once, we got to her house my grandpa was in the motor home and ready to go. We
loaded the rest of the bags into the motor home and then we were on our way. After a long 5 hour
drive (that I slept during most of) we made it to our destination. Once, we arrived at the Myrtle
Beach State Park Campground we parked and hooked up the electricity and water to the motor

Women's Pavilion at the Columbian Exposition Essay example
The Women's Pavilion The Columbian Exposition was notable for its impressive architecture and
large international attendance. Of particular importance was the Women's Pavilion. The first of its
kind to have been designed by a female architect, it revealed much about the social plight of women
at that time, and the need for further progress in the movement for equal rights. While its existence
did not trigger significant changes for the Women's Movement, this pavilion was certainly a
promising first step that would set a precedent for women's involvement in later years. All aspects of
women's involvement in the Chicago fair were overseen by the Board of Lady Managers. This

Those that were in the field also received little public acknowledgement. At this Philadelphia fair,
November 7th was chosen was "women's day", based on the assumption that the women should take
advantage of the fair while the men were casting their ballots. This angered the suffragettes, who
proceeded to boycott the fair. The women's pavilion placed "...particular emphasis on those activities
generally acknowledged to be within the women's sphere" with little information in the areas of
science and discovery. (Greenhalgh, 175) Most of the art work done by women was nowhere to be
found in the women's pavilion, but instead was in the main Fine Arts building. While the Board of
Lady Managers was supposed to have "general charge and management of all interests of women in
connection with the Exposition", they were denied a say in the selection of the actual architect.
(Ralph, 170) This decision instead was made by a board of men. In order to select the architect,
work was examined from fourteen distinguished women in the field. It is noted that none of these

Pavilion Of Women
"To know how to read is to light a lamp in the mind, to release the soul from prison, to open a gate
to the universe" Pearl S. Buck once said in her book Pavilion of Women. Many different people read
for many different reasons. Some people read to distract themselves from what they are currently
dealing with, others as a pastime and a few read to open their minds. Reading books and other forms
of literature can not only expand one's vocabulary, but, open one's mind to different concepts or
ideas. As a class, we read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. This is a great example of how
reading can open one's mind about things one would not normally think about. For example, until I
read this play I had never truly put any thought into the human existence. Do we have a meaning?

There is thousands, if not millions of books that challenge the mind in a large number of ways. An
example of this is 13 Days of Midnight, the book that I chose to read for the independent study unit.
I found many of the words that Leo Hunt used in his writing, were words that I had not heard or
never understood. Hamlet, written in an extremely different format from 13 Days of Midnight, is an
equally, if not more challenging, text to read. It is written in an English that is no longer used and
also depends on the stage direction for understanding of what is happening. Reading texts like
Hamlet can help anyone that reads it become more aware of what happens in a text that is deeper
than just the meaning of the words. I enjoy reading books like this mainly due to the fact that I am
challenged to determine what the word means and how to use it in proper context. Books that
challenge one's vocabulary have a great potential to make the vocabulary of the reader to become

Essay on The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong idealistic and
mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves, his
later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima
himself referred to The Sound of Waves as "that great joke on the public" (qtd. in Ishiguro 385).
However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima's other literary pieces; in order to classify it as
romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and
characterizations which establish the romantic–driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. It is

Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities within The Sound of
Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is "letting her hair stream" and her "cheeks
glow" (7). These characteristics are shown many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil's
depictions of goddesses such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must
overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a
furious hornet. Hatsue sees the "flashing of the little golden colored wings" and wonders "what god
it [is] who [has] come to her rescue." (93).The interference of the hornet seems far–fetched, for most
would think that the hornet would not only attack Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima
created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The
setting of the island Uta–jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between Hatsue
and Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island and "two
spots with surpassingly beautiful views." (3).After this, the reader is introduced to a young man,
Shinji, climbing up the stairs of the lighthouse. Mishima depicts this area as one of the most
beautiful views on the island. The

services to consumers in the public and private sector. HP devices are known for their usability,
adaptability and technological advances. I use the HP Pavilion predominantly to complete tasks for
school and work, with minimal leisure usage. There is a sense of ease when using the laptop, there is
the ability to use an on screen keyboard, the built in mouse or using option to connect an external
pointing device. Also, there is the ability to surf and toggle through multiple screens, with the touch
of a button on the keyboard. In certain applications and downloads the system walks you through
the process and the user is able to move forward, cancel or go back during that processes. Users can
save time as the ability to save, copy and share information is seamless. Overall The HP Pavilion
has paved a unique way of making user controls accessible and has the ability to navigate without
feeling lost or overwhelmed.

Renaissance Mamas Research Paper

  • 1. Renaissance Mamas Research Paper Page 1: My mama has been working on the renaissance clothes all week, and now we are in the car. Driving to the Renaissance Festival. My sister was wearing an auburn red dress with pretty patterns and frills all over her dress. My mama was wearing a royal green dress with necklaces and lace that covered her. Papa was wearing a simple lords siamese, trousers, vest, cloak, and hat. While I wore a royal blue dress matched with a beautiful necklace, and my hair done on intricate braids as ribbons were also going through my hair. 'This car ride had to be the longest one i've ever been on.' I thought to myself as I looked out the window. The scenery was dull and there was a long line of cars were in front of us, do to the fact that the renaissance festival was so popular amongst the public. "Almost everyone dresses up," mama explained to papa, as he was itching his legs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That's when my sister, who is in love with dragons, saw a win a prize for one dollar at a dragon pet shop. I thought it was bogus. Nobody ever gets a good prize when it comes to that stuff. Alas my sister found this out when she spent a dollar and only got a wooden egg. Of course then papa asked me if I wanted to try and get a souvenir like Amanda's, I thought 'what the heck, why not'. I wound up getting a baby dragon, and the head moved. I couldn't believe it. Page 6: I wanted to see the fairy. I didn't want to go anywhere else yet. So papa took me and when I saw her, she was beautiful. Unfortunately, she couldn't speak, but she had a flute that she would play as an answer. She gave my sister and I a fairy stone. Page 7: We then walked some more and we decided to get a drink and snack. We went from booth to booth. We saw a chocolate strawberry shop and got some lemonade to go with it. We went and sat under the pavilion and ate. We went and got on this huge ship like swing with a unicorn on the end. I cannot remember what the name of it was now. Page ... • 3. My Reflection On My Experience My First reflection of my Chinese experience I intensely remember my first trip to China one year ago. I was just a few weeks into my appointment as Adviser to the Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship. I was given the opportunity and privilege to work with this extraordinary professional, and my perception of China was at the time was still quite asymmetrical. I took office in my new position, just a couple of months since my return from the Expo Milan 2015 Universal Exhibition, where I served as Director of the Albanian Pavilion throughout the six intensive months of its duration. Albania was participating for the first time with a self–made pavilion, and was part of the Sicilian managed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every week there would be a food tasting from each Chinese region. At the same time such regions would showcase they're most particular emphasis on the local culture such as in songs or theatre. I knew for a fact through many stories told to me in a legendary fashion when I was younger, that at some point in time during the 1960s and 70s, especially after both countries split with Russia, the relationships between China and Albania was so close that Albania was considered the only "beacon of light" and friendship in Europe. I had also heard that this special relationship was so exclusive, that culturally both countries had shared their music and cinematography during those years. Consequently there I was, in the Chinese Pavilion, in the middle of one of the biggest and most important worldwide international events, talking to someone who could remind himself of a socialist era Albanian movie, and explaining me how most of the Chinese at the time were so fond of the Albanian cinematography, that some of them could still remember the popular Albanian national liberation greeting "death to the fascists, freedom to the people". I was astounded. While I was preparing for my trip to China, a bilateral ministerial meeting in Ningbo, I did a resume of the bilateral agreements and the cooperation between the two countries. The Celtics had the best of times with Isisiah Thomas having a historic season, and becoming one of the most beloved Celtics of All–Time. Their best of times continued with them over achieving and overtaking the Cavs record wise as the best team in the Eastern Conference. Their worst of times wouldn't come to fruition until deep into their playoff run with the death of Thomas sister, and his __– injury that would keep him out for most the Eastern Conference Finals. When teams are usually eliminated in a sweep or in five games they're usually faced with many questions of uncertainty , like any other franchise the Celtics are faced with difficult ... Boston has the number pick in the draft, and they have so many options they can go with. Markelle Fultz Is the consensus number 1 pick on most mock drafts boards. He has the potential to be so great that recent rumors had Boston trading their current superstar Thomas in favor for Fultz. I think Fultz and Thomas can coexist in the same backcourt, Fultz was a point guard in college, however I think he will thrive in the NBA as shooting guard with everyone playing small ball. Fultz doesn't need Thomas to create a shot for him, he can create his own shot off the dribble, and if Thomas is out the game he can be the teams primary ball handler, and the second option on offense. Fultz fits into the modern NBA because he shoots the three at a decent rate, and he can slash and attack the rim like James Harden. If the Nets continue to struggle just like they did this year Boston might have another top 3 pick coming their way in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a variety play that described the protagonist, Du Li–niang, met her ideal husband, Liu Meng–Long, in her dream and overcame hardships to finally be with him. Since it was shared dreams between Du and Liu which brought them together, there were many scenes related to their dreams throughout the script. • 11. World War II And Its Impact On Japan After World War II, new influences and ideals started to make an impact on Japan like never before. Japan's defeat resulted in westernization, and the country started to transform into what it is known for today–modern manufacturing for countries all over the world. Many traditionalists disapproved of this idea of transitioning into being iconic for materialistic and bourgeois ideologies and now felt isolated within their own country because their views were extremely different from the new views generated from this change. Yukio Mishima's discomfort with Japan's conversion to westernization, lack of military and political influence is evident as his main point in The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea. Traditional Japanese beliefs had been built off of the ideas of honor, death, and glory, and Mishima believed that, with this transition into modern Japan, a so called "lack of glory" became prevalent. Through the characters of Noboru and Ryuji, Mishima incorporates the theme of alienation to highlight his own life experiences, feelings and disapproval during Japan's transition to modernization. Noboru's purpose as a character is to embody the effects of westernization on traditional thinking. By constructing a peculiarly different lifestyle based upon psychopathic misguidance, fears, hatred, confusion, and contrasting opinions within his new family, Noboru alienates himself from the changing world around him. The first cause to this change is through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the firm's strategy, what are the most important Key Performance Indicators (e.g., quantitative measures) for the Pavilion to track and manage if it is to achieve its goal of continuous annual growth in operating income? ALLTEL Pavilion is operated by SFX Entertainment in an outdoor atmosphere for its customers. ALLTEL attempts to create a competitive advantage as the major outdoor concert venue in the "Triangle" area of North Carolina consisting of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Is it reasonable to assume this level of operating income will be achieved? Briefly explain. $30,000 / (1–0.40) = 4x($40.08–$3.05) + 1x($13.09–$3.05) – $263,245 $30,000 / (1–0.40) = x($158.16) – $265,245 $30,000 = x($94.896) – $157,947 $187,947 = x($94.896) x = 1980.5577 tickets 1(1980.5577) = 1981 comp tickets 4(1980.5577) = 7923 paying tickets in order to earn $30,000 Operating Income after taxes The total number of 7923 paying tickets is reasonable to be achieved, although it is above the number of 7000 tickets that the reserved seating can actually hold at ALLTEL Pavilion. 3. What should be the average ticket price (for all ticket types combined––A through D) for the KFBS concert if the fixed–pay fee is $200,000 (rather than $160,635) and the Pavilion expects to sell 7,000 tickets and wants to earn $30,000 operating income after 40 percent in taxes? After you estimate the average ticket price for all ticket types combined (which is $22.12 for the situation depicted in Exhibit 2), estimate the price for each type of seat (i.e., in Exhibit 2: A–$36.29, B––$22.22, C––$11.31, D––$4.92). [Hint: assume the sales mix for A, B, C, and D seats remains the same as the mix in the Flash Report (Exhibit 2).] $30,000 / (1–0.40) = 7000 ($13.09 – $3.05) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chen ABSTRACT: The ALLTEL Pavilion case is intended for the undergraduate management accounting or cost accounting course and the M.B.A. management accounting course. It provides an excellent context in which to examine strategic issues in using cost volume profit (CVP) in a service business. Based on an actual entertainment pavilion, the case develops many factors unique to a service business and illustrates how pavilion management can use CVP analysis to determine which artists to attract and what kinds of contracts to have with these performers. Hardee's Food Systems, Inc. of Rocky Mount, NC, the original sponsor of the amphitheater, paid an annual fee to carry its name and logo on all signs and ads regarding the amphitheater. On February 3, 1999 ALLTEL Corp (http://tel.com) became the title sponsor for the amphitheater. The demand for the outdoor facility came about because the rapidly growing city of Raleigh lacked a major entertainment complex. In the late 1980s Pace Entertainment and the city of Raleigh came to an agreement to build the facility. The city of Raleigh would own the land while Pace Entertainment would own the facility and assume sole operations of the facility; Cellar Door would do the booking for all the concerts. Pace Entertainment would pay income taxes on earnings from the use of the facility. In 1998, SFX Entertainment Inc. acquired Pace Entertainment Inc. The amphitheater facility and its employees became part of SFX Entertainment Inc. Also, in 1999 SFX Entertainment Inc. acquired Cellar Door Inc. and merged with Clear Channel Communications Inc., one of the largest owners of radio stations in the country. In the pastoral romance novel The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, the author uses the beautiful scenery as an important element to the story. The main protagonist, Shinji, has many connections to nature and the ocean throughout the story. Yukio Mishima uses the setting to provide a better understanding of his characters and to express the power of nature. Yukio Mishima is able to show the deep connection between Shinji and nature which he accomplishes by using colorful imagery and metaphorical language. Yukio Mishima uses visual imagery of the ocean and the crashing waves around the island to help describe the peaceful or violent nature of the sea. The author then uses similes and metaphors to relate Shinji to the ocean. This helps express Shinji as being a strong character who embraces nature. Nature is described to be calm and serene. The use of personification was used to demonstrate how Shinji had become close to nature as one would a human being. Nature is what comforts Shinji since it provides him with his job, money, and food. Once Hatsue's father Terukichi offers Shinji a chance to marry Hatsue, Shinji learns that the sea is also a place for exploration and trials. Shinji displays his fearless character by jumping into the typhoon raged sea to attach a rope to a buoy. Yukio Mishima uses the motif of the crashing waves to show how Shinji's feelings sync with the raging fury of the storm and his love for Hatsue rages as well. The storm symbolizes Shinji's longing to be with Hatsue. Like a violent storm Shinji is angry and depressed because he could not see his lover. The rain could symbolize his tears and lament while the power and vigor of the storm could show his growing love for Hatsue. The perilous sea was a fitting arena for Shinji to demonstrate his qualities of strength, endurance, courage, and self–sacrifice. Mishima's detailed descriptions of ... A Day At The Technology Student Association State Conference The day my life flashed before my eyes started as though it was any other day at the Technology Student Association State Conference. The day started out with anticipation and excitement for the competitive events held that day. The only competitive event I was to participate in was the Electrathon race, which was scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event where we race student designed go–kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery charge. Even though I was not competing in an event that morning, I still had to dress in khaki pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving my hotel room and stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day. As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for the events to come that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center. Weaving through the crowds of people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped onto the escalator and headed down, my mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I stepped off the escalator and weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea Candidate Name: David Wilson Candidate Number: School: Scots College Country: New Zealand Word count: 1425 Reflective Statement My understanding of the novel The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with The Sea written by Yukio Mishima was considerably furthered by the interactive oral. My ideas on the text before compared to my thoughts after the oral were greatly different. One of the major talking points of the interactive oral was the how the author voiced his own personal thoughts. Most works of literature convey some of the author's personal thoughts and interests however in this novel Mishima conveys a sense of despair as too the state of Japan after their defeat in World War Two. In the oral we collectively as a group discussed that Mishima despised what Japan had become and how this was conveyed in the text. This westernisation of Japan was represented in the novel by the character of Ryuji Tsukazaki who after beginning the story as an honourable sailor "one of the only true things permissible" according to the group of savage boys become nothing but a glorified house maid. The young boy, Noburu, reflects Mishima's personal views on the subject by demonstrating the old code of bushido when he says "how can this man be saying things like that this splendid hero who once shone so brightly?" . In the oral we discussed how this quote was a metaphor for what Ryuji and to a larger extent what Japan had become in real life. A further instance in which the interactive oral ... Essay about Le Corbusier: Philips Pavilion, Brussels, 1958 Le Corbusier: Philips Pavilion, Brussels, 1958 Located in a small site next to the Dutch section and away from the center of the fair, the pavilion hosted a futuristic multimedia display featuring images, colored lighting and music and sounds called the "Poème Electronique." Some of the greatest artistic minds of the twentieth century were involved in its creation, including the architect Le Corbusier (1887–1965) and the composer Edgard Varèse (1883–1965). But most importantly, the Philips Pavilion represented an important artistic phenomenon through its synthesis of architecture, visual media and music. The purpose of the pavilion was to exhibit the technology of the Philips corporation, a Dutch electronics company specializing in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philips executives no doubt expected a first–class design from Le Corbusier, but they also expected him to direct the entire concept of the Poème Electronique and all of its images and lighting, in addition to the architecture. In effect, Philips gave Le Corbusier carte blanche to create their pavilion, insisting only that he utilize the various technological media the company was producing. Le Corbusier's involvement in the Philips Pavilion is often overestimated. In reality, most of the designing was carried out by his collaborator Yannis Xenakis (b.1922), a Greek architect and music composer working in Le Corbusier's office at the time. Xenakis would later become famous for his use of rigorous mathematical concepts and relationships in his music, but at this time was not well known. This may be part of the reason that he receives less recognition for the design than he probably deserves, coupled with Le Corbusier's prestige and public exaggerations of his own role. Le Corbusier was more concerned with what was going on inside the pavilion and cared little about its exterior appearance. Even the spectacle inside was not completely his own, for the music was by Edgard Varèse, a well–known composer at the time and a pioneer in the field of electronic music and the use of ... A majority of space within Millennium Park all rise above the human scale. The surrounding buildings and skyscrapers serve as a reminder of how little we are compared to the vast size of the city. The enormous space welcomes onlookers from every direction of the park. • 33. The Story Of The Western Wing, The Peony Pavilion, And The... In traditional Chinese theater, females, and particularly young girls, are perceived as property. Their role in society is to get married to a male from another family of equal or higher social status. In fact, the role of a woman is so set and stone that no matter how they were brought up, whether or not they are noble or educated, does not seem to contribute to their destined fate. The traditional Chinese society is so specific and consistent in determining the fate of females based on social hierarchy that females seem to have no choice in the matter. Often, the decision is made by their parents and the females are forced to simply comply. In three classic Chinese operas, The Story of the Western Wing, The Peony Pavilion, and The Peach Blossom Fan, the main female characters strive to move against societal norms by choosing their own destinies, hence choosing their male partners. The classics make this freedom so valuable to the point that it is almost unachievable. By creating female leads who fight against their own destinies, authors of each play use irony to criticize traditional Chinese social structure. To show this irony, three heroines whom are all upper class, educated, and very sheltered by their families and societal role of a woman are struck by grief when deciding to choose their own fate. Although the freedom and approval of love should be considered a premium lifestyle for its time, the impossible nature of the opportunity leads to unconceivable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The foremost part of our journey, to Tokushima and the Awagami Factory, was what I was initially so excited for. Between my studies of printmaking, papermaking, and Japanese art history– Awagami was the initial anticipated zenith of my trip to Japan. It was an absolute dream come true. Paper has long been a fascination of mine as it's a printmaker's primary medium. Awagami washi paper is renowned among printmakers and the opportunity to partake in the traditional process from collection, cleaning, preparation, and completion into the final thin yet strong sheets of washi paper was wonderful. I was so inspired by the facility and the process that I made sure to take detailed notes in the hope of continuing my own papermaking process back in the United States. Another occurrence that has altered my own artistic practices and inspired me for future art works– including our final sculptural pieces for this class– was our trip to Inujima Island and the Inujima Seirensho Art Museum. The second piece we encountered, a piece entitled "Solar Rock" by Yukinori Yanagi which used pieces of Yukio Mishima's Shoto home, was an influential piece into my own practices. The larger than life, imagined, presence of this piece was achieved through the "expanded" walls of a theoretical home. Hopeless Love : Act Of Worship Hopeless love: Act of Worship "When the coffee came, she held out the silver sugar bowl for him to help himself from first, and as he took it their fingertips came into brief contact. She apologized immediately, but a suspicion plagued her that he had seen the contact as premeditated on her part. It continued to plague her in the maddening heat on the train, so that every time the steady waving of the professor's fan suddenly stopped her heart seemed to stop with it. She had never reacted in this way before. Perhaps the sense of responsibility she'd felt ever since the train had left Tokyo Station had made her oversensitive? The incident, for which there was no way of apologizing naturally, continued to weigh on her till, combining with the heat, it made it impossible for her to enjoy the scenery outside." With no substantial competitors in the geographic region, they are looking to create an "experience" for the audience and thus maintain the sustainability of the venue. They do this primarily through solid Marketing efforts. They are focused on the making the venue and each event as profitable as possible, by making it as highly visible as possible. Working within an established marketing budget of $20,000 per event, the team analyzes demographics, options, and potential ROI in order to make decisions about how to spend this money. The question of whether the Pavilion would prefer fixed fee or per capita performers would vary depending on the popularity of the performer. If they could choose only one type, they should prefer to pay for talent on a per capita basis because the risk is shared with the performer and the low operating leverage would protect from huge losses. However, it should be noted that Alltel would benefit from paying popular artists on a fixed fee basis as the anticipated large attendance would well exceed the breakeven point and become more profitable for the venue. 4) A sensitivity analysis could help Alltel pavilion assess potential risks/rewards associated with changes in costs or sales volume. A What–if analysis would be helpful to determine profits given variations in sales. If the pavilion had a strong inclination as to the draw of a particular artist, this would give them the

  • 63. Textual Analysis : ' Rama ' Essay Textual Analysis: Love in these texts is quite superficial, as the driving force behind these feelings of love is physical appearance. In each of the four stories, for example, the characters fall in love within seconds of simply seeing a person. They become instantaneously attached, and they start thinking about how to turn their feelings into marriage. In the Ramayana, Rama and Sita see each other in the same moment, Rama from the street and Sita from her balcony. Narayan describes a tension–filled scene where they stare at each other and revel in each other's beauty (Narayan 23). Sita's wishes for marriage to Rama are then made clear when she hears that someone met her father's condition and, in turn, won her hand in marriage. She expresses her hopes that Rama is the one who did this, asking her maid "Do you know if this is the same man who struck me down with a look as he passed along the street? If it is someone else, I will end my life" (Narayan 28). Similarly, in The Recognition of Śakuntalā, King Dusyanata sees Śakuntalā and is so intrigued by her beauty that he automatically expresses his resentment for her difference in class because it would be a hindrance to their marriage. He does not let this stop him, though, as he says: "Indeed if only she could be the child of the bramin holy man and a woman of a different class. But why should I worry? Truly, if my noble heart desires her, that makes her fit to be a prince's wife, for the wise man trusts his heart to lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This story sheds a different light on death; it shows the honor and respectful way of bowing out. To see the honor in death, one must understand the culture and the time period. The story 'Patriotism' written by Yukio Mishima shows a couple?s courage, love and faith as well as the man?s commitment to his country. As the story goes, Shinji is a member of the Imperil forces. Shinji has taken an oath to fight for his country; his honor depends on his commitment. He will fight to death and risk his life whenever necessary to protect his livelihood. He's newly married and has even forsaken his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This part of the story shows how helpless women are in this society, and how dependant they are. This, as a continuing tradition, could drag Japan down in comparisons of equality and individuality. In their last night together on this earth, Shinji and Rieko find faith, the truth and pure love. In their preparation for death Shinji places the ultimate trust in his wife, asking her to watch his death and then commit to her own. During this time the love for each other becomes pure and intoxicating. They both embrace their faith as they value the little time left with each other that ultimately turns into the death of two young and beautiful people. Whether or not they may have pure love, It seems that much is influenced because of their impending death, death in this case acts like a drug, a drug that makes them feel more than they would or should. This story is very insightful into a different culture and its perceptions of death. It shows that commitment and faith can take precedence to life itself. I think this story is timeless and could be applied as a measuring tool for commitment and honor in most societies. Love brings two people together and then takes their lives. I think this story glamorizes and distorts the reality of suicide and death. It seems to say, ?This is OK? go ahead. I think people should live until, well they are dead and ... Every year I go on vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a week. We usually leave a few days after Christmas and come back a few days after New Years. I go with my grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and some of my cousins. We have been going on this vacation for about six years, but at first it only started out as us going down for the weekend. The first two years we went to Myrtle Beach it was just me and my grandma and grandpa, but after that year some more of my family started to come down with us. This past year I had to wake up around 5 o'clock so that I could get ready in time to leave early. The first thing I did was take a shower, then I finished packing my bags, and finally I got ready to leave. My grandma came and picked me up around 5:45 and we headed to her house. Once, we got to her house my grandpa was in the motor home and ready to go. We loaded the rest of the bags into the motor home and then we were on our way. After a long 5 hour drive (that I slept during most of) we made it to our destination. Once, we arrived at the Myrtle Beach State Park Campground we parked and hooked up the electricity and water to the motor home. When we arrived my aunt and uncle were already there and hooked up. Of particular importance was the Women's Pavilion. The first of its kind to have been designed by a female architect, it revealed much about the social plight of women at that time, and the need for further progress in the movement for equal rights. While its existence did not trigger significant changes for the Women's Movement, this pavilion was certainly a promising first step that would set a precedent for women's involvement in later years. All aspects of women's involvement in the Chicago fair were overseen by the Board of Lady Managers. This governing body, the first of its kind, had authority over ... At this Philadelphia fair, November 7th was chosen was "women's day", based on the assumption that the women should take advantage of the fair while the men were casting their ballots. This angered the suffragettes, who proceeded to boycott the fair. The women's pavilion placed "...particular emphasis on those activities generally acknowledged to be within the women's sphere" with little information in the areas of science and discovery. (Greenhalgh, 175) Most of the art work done by women was nowhere to be found in the women's pavilion, but instead was in the main Fine Arts building. While the Board of Lady Managers was supposed to have "general charge and management of all interests of women in connection with the Exposition", they were denied a say in the selection of the actual architect. (Ralph, 170) This decision instead was made by a board of men. In order to select the architect, work was examined from fourteen distinguished women in the field. It is noted that none of these applicants was over the age of twenty–five. The woman who was chosen was Sophia Hayden, who had just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Pavilion Of Women "To know how to read is to light a lamp in the mind, to release the soul from prison, to open a gate to the universe" Pearl S. Buck once said in her book Pavilion of Women. Many different people read for many different reasons. Some people read to distract themselves from what they are currently dealing with, others as a pastime and a few read to open their minds. Reading books and other forms of literature can not only expand one's vocabulary, but, open one's mind to different concepts or ideas. As a class, we read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. This is a great example of how reading can open one's mind about things one would not normally think about. For example, until I read this play I had never truly put any thought into the human existence. Do we have a meaning? Are we truly alive? Is anything real? All ... An example of this is 13 Days of Midnight, the book that I chose to read for the independent study unit. I found many of the words that Leo Hunt used in his writing, were words that I had not heard or never understood. Hamlet, written in an extremely different format from 13 Days of Midnight, is an equally, if not more challenging, text to read. It is written in an English that is no longer used and also depends on the stage direction for understanding of what is happening. Reading texts like Hamlet can help anyone that reads it become more aware of what happens in a text that is deeper than just the meaning of the words. I enjoy reading books like this mainly due to the fact that I am challenged to determine what the word means and how to use it in proper context. • 75. Essay on The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong idealistic and mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and tranquility in The Sound of Waves, his later works are categorized as aggressive and containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima himself referred to The Sound of Waves as "that great joke on the public" (qtd. in Ishiguro 385). However, one cannot compare this novel to Mishima's other literary pieces; in order to classify it as romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical allusions, and characterizations which establish the romantic–driven qualities in The Sound of Waves. It is apparent that nature plays a major role throughout The Sound of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities within The Sound of Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is "letting her hair stream" and her "cheeks glow" (7). These characteristics are shown many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil's depictions of goddesses such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must overcome is when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a furious hornet. Hatsue sees the "flashing of the little golden colored wings" and wonders "what god it [is] who [has] come to her rescue." (93).The interference of the hornet seems far–fetched, for most would think that the hornet would not only attack Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima created an idealized situation were nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The setting of the island Uta–jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between Hatsue and Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island and "two spots with surpassingly beautiful views." (3).After this, the reader is introduced to a young man, Shinji, climbing up the stairs of the lighthouse. Mishima depicts this area as one of the most beautiful views on the island. The ...
