Methi, also known as fenugreek, is a native of West Asia and the Mediterranean area. It is produced in many countries including India, China, Korea, Spain, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. There are several varieties including Kasuri, Methi No-47, and Methi No-14. Fenugreek has trifoliate leaves and yellow-white flowers. It is used medicinally for brain, skin, liver, metabolic, respiratory, and digestive issues. Fenugreek production requires seedbed preparation, sowing from October to November using a seed rate of 10-15 kg/ha, spacing of 30 cm between rows and 8-10 cm between plants, fertilization, 4-6 irrigations

Seedbed preparation
Land should be ploughed 2-3 times,
followed by planking to prepare fine
seed bed.
Soil clods should be broken and
stubbles of previous crop should be
removed.

15 October – 15 November
Best time is 15 November.
10-15 kg of seeds per ha are required.
Seeds should be soaked in water for 6
to 8 hours and dried in shade before
sowing.

40 kg Nitrogen /ha
20 kg Phosphorous /ha
Half dose of Nitrogen and full dose
of Phosphorous should be applied as
basal dose and remaining 20 kg
nitrogen after 30 days of sowing.

16. Irrigation
The first irrigation is given just after
sowing.
Subsequent irrigation are given at
seven to ten days interval.
4-6 irrigations are required.

18. Harvesting
Crop becomes ready for harvest in about
120-150 days.
At the time of ripening, leaves and hulls
become yellowish and leaves start falling.
Timely harvesting is very important for
this crop as late harvest leads to seed losses
due to pod bursting, whereas in early
harvest, the grains remain immature and small.
