for public engagement for a functional democracy. This weeks assignment is to engage with your
municipal government. This can take a few different forms: attend a city council meeting (many of
them are streamed online), review an agenda package from a recent meeting, do some research
on the types of committees that serve under city council, research a local initiative (ie. a new
development, land use change, etc.). Submit a summary of your experience/work and include the
following: How did you engage with your local government? (for example: did you go to a council
meeting, read a report, interview a councilor?)

3) Who was engaged in the discussion, or has been engaged in the discussion so far? (ie. if you
are reading a report, do they reference any consultations? Who spoke at the council meeting?
who is serving on the committee? What groups are represented?)
4) What was the outcome? Was anything resolved, voted upon, or deferred?
5) What is your overall impression of the process? Do you think that it feels accessible to have a
voice at this level of governance? why or why not? Please give me answers for these questions. I
