HOW TWITTER WORKS
• Twitter provides a platform to individuals and firms to create
messages (tweets) of up to 140 characters, which can be broadcasted
to all the users subscribing to your account (followers).
• These messages are displayed on your timeline (news feed) whenever
you login from your account.
• Tweets may include:
• Hashtag: generally used to converse on a specific topic that can be searched
using this hashtag
• Mention: the user name of a business or individual you are refereeing to
• Web links: you can send links of your favourite web pages to your followers
• Photos and videos: attaching a photo or a video link with your tweet

• Plan your approach. Have a clear agenda about:

• Set up a different Twitter account if you want to engage differently

customer, be careful of how you are being perceived as.
• Attract followers by:
• Sharing great content
• Promoting your twitter account on other media
• Encourage user generated content on twitter
• Follow relevant accounts and join their conversation
• Retweet and ‘Favourite’ other peoples tweets.
• Use the #hashtag to be involved in current trends.
• Start competitions with great deals on products and offers.
HOW TO USE #HASHTAG
• Use an existing hashtag that is trending and relevant to your brand.
• Pick keywords that may be often searched by users as your #hashtag
• Using buzz words related to your brand, you can create a #hashtag
competition
• You can also use hashtags for responding to live tweets during an
event such as an exhibition or product launch
• Use other hashtags to which your audience relate to. Such as some
festival or a current event such as the World Cup.
WHAT TO AVOID
• Do not choose an hashtag that radiates a negative image
• Know about the hashtag before using it, do not get involved in a
conversation you do not belong to
• Do not align to a topic that is sensitive or those that will create
controversies
• Spelling mistakes and wrong usage of grammar can lead to a hot topic
of discussion
• Be consistent in your tone and manner when writing tweets. Brand
should maintain its persona on Social Media.
WHAT TO AVOID
• Use toned and polished language. Appealing content is a must.
• When tweeting ensure that the timing is right.
• Always acknowledge and respond to user’s response irrespective of
the sentiment of it.
• If sentiments are hurt, it is best to apologize immediately and
appease the matter
• Note down the pros and cons, and mark the areas of improvement
for each promotional event. These insights can be used for future
communications.

Tweets with images have 5 times the engagement • 241 million active twitter accounts • The cost of a 24 hour promoted trend runs about $200 thousand • 170 minutes on an average are spent by users on Twitter per month • Youtube is the most followed brand with 40 million followers • Engagement rate decreases with increase in number of tweets per day

HOW TWITTER WORKS • Twitter provides a platform to individuals and firms to create messages (tweets) of up to 140 characters, which can be broadcasted to all the users subscribing to your account (followers). • These messages are displayed on your timeline (news feed) whenever you login from your account. • Tweets may include: • Hashtag: generally used to converse on a specific topic that can be searched using this hashtag • Mention: the user name of a business or individual you are refereeing to • Web links: you can send links of your favourite web pages to your followers • Photos and videos: attaching a photo or a video link with your tweet

Have a clear agenda about: • What is the objective • Who are you targeting • What do you want the target audience to do • How are you going to know it is working • Keep your content fresh and relevant. • Twitter is a site for conversation, encourage the audience to have one • Harness your followers’ followings to engage a wider audience • Set up a different Twitter account if you want to engage differently with different audience.

TIPS TO TWITTER • Business intrude the personal space and social domain of your customer, be careful of how you are being perceived as. • Attract followers by: • Sharing great content • Promoting your twitter account on other media • Encourage user generated content on twitter • Follow relevant accounts and join their conversation • Retweet and ‘Favourite’ other peoples tweets. • Use the #hashtag to be involved in current trends. • Start competitions with great deals on products and offers.

HOW TO USE #HASHTAG • Use an existing hashtag that is trending and relevant to your brand. • Pick keywords that may be often searched by users as your #hashtag • Using buzz words related to your brand, you can create a #hashtag competition • You can also use hashtags for responding to live tweets during an event such as an exhibition or product launch • Use other hashtags to which your audience relate to. Such as some festival or a current event such as the World Cup.

WHAT TO AVOID • Do not choose an hashtag that radiates a negative image • Know about the hashtag before using it, do not get involved in a conversation you do not belong to • Do not align to a topic that is sensitive or those that will create controversies • Spelling mistakes and wrong usage of grammar can lead to a hot topic of discussion • Be consistent in your tone and manner when writing tweets. Brand should maintain its persona on Social Media.
  • 13. WHAT TO AVOID • Use toned and polished language. Appealing content is a must. • When tweeting ensure that the timing is right. • Always acknowledge and respond to user’s response irrespective of the sentiment of it. • If sentiments are hurt, it is best to apologize immediately and appease the matter • Note down the pros and cons, and mark the areas of improvement for each promotional event. These insights can be used for future communications.
