HYPOTHESIS
Hypothesis is written in such a way that it can be proven or
disproven by valid and reliable data. (Grinnell.1988)
2
FUNCTIONS OF HYPOTHESIS
A hypothesis has several functions
Enhance objectivity & purpose
Provide focus & specific scope
Help in prioritizing data collection
Enable formulation of theory
3
CHARACTERISTICS OF HYPOTHESIS
A Hypothesis must be Capable of Verification
 A Hypothesis must be Related to the Existing Body of
Knowledge
A Hypothesis Needs to be Precise, Simple and Specific
4
1.Description of research work
• Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease
• It is one of the major non-communicable diseases
• About 235 million people worldwide suffer from asthma
(Kasper et al. 2015)
• Herbal preparations are one of the most popular
complementary treatment used by asthmatic
patients(WHO.2018).
5
Cont..
• The genus Curcuma have been recognized widely as food
and traditional medicines(Akarchariya et al. 2017)
• Important medicinal plants from genus Curcuma having anti-
asthmatic potential is C. longa (Rajamma et al. 2012)
• The antiasthma effects of two indigenous Curcuma species
will examined i.e,
 C. aeruginosa
 C. mangga
6
2.Need and Significance
Objectives
To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of C. aeruginosa
and C. mangga
To evaluate the anti-asthamatic effect of curcuma species
To provide the herbal treatment with lesser side effets
7
3.Material and Methods
Sampling
and sample
identification
4 METHODS
Plant
extractions
Anti-
inflammatory
activity
Data
analysis
8
4.Expected Outcomes
• There will decreased effect of asthma by C. aeruginosa & C.
Mangga
• There will decreased side effects by using herbal treatments
and medicines
