3. What is Bronchial asthma ?
Reversible chronic bronchial hyper-
responsiveness of the airways to various
stimuli,
• bronchoconstriction,
• airflow limitation and
• inflammation of the bronchi
causing symptoms of cough, wheeze, chest
tightness and dyspnoea.

According to etiology
• Allergic asthma
• Exercise induced asthma
• Steroid resistant asthma
• Intrinsic asthma
• Occupational
• Brittle asthma
According to symptoms
• Intermittent
• Mild
• Moderate
• Moderately Severe
• Severe

• Asthma is common and can start at any age but it
can be effectively controlled.
• Effective asthma management includes patient
education, objective measurement of lung
function, environmental control, and
pharmacologic therapy
• A stepwise approach to pharmacologic therapy is
recommended
• The aim is to accomplish the goals of therapy
with the least possible medication.
