• Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway associated with airway hyper
responsiveness that leads to recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness
or coughing that can vary over time and in intensity
• Asthma is a serious health and socio-economic issue all over the world, affecting more than
300 million persons all over the world, with approximately 250,000 annual deaths.
