1. My trailer will start of with a wide shot of the house, at
night time. It will establish the location of the film as well
as drawing all the links back to this house. The reason this
shot will be done at night, is to give a horror and scary feel
towards the house. The audience will feel the mood
intended for the film, which is to feel uncomfortable and
tense. Once the shot for this is show it will cut to the next
shot but in a glitch way which I will do whilst editing.
The next few shots will be fast and showing the
murders of 5 children. They will be a mixture of
midshot’s and close ups. There will also be close ups
of children's shoes and also pictures of them when
they were alive. I’ve decided to do this to not only
make the audience feel uncomfortable, but to also set
the narrative of showing what has happened in the
woods which is close to the murder house.
2. The next shot will be of the two murderers; Lyra and
Kieran. This is shown to establish who the murderers
are in the film, and what they had done which
affects the film. They will be shown in pictures, and
their prison mugshot. (The way the characters look
in the picture are not how I actually want to portray
them! The software I used to create the storyboard
pictures has limited characters to use)
The next shot will be introduced using a fade to show
passing of time. It will show a midshot of two sisters
carrying boxes with there stuff inside. This shot is used
to connote them moving into a new house. Nora, will be
presented to look moody and frustrated as she doesn’t
want to move into this house. Whilst Jessica is
presented to be happy and exited about moving in. You
can see the contrast between both characters as they
are different and this technique is used in films.
3. The next few shots will be a close up of Nora looking
at the house with a suspicious look on her face,
whilst the next shot will show the house. I'm going
to use this to foreshadow that Nora suspects
something wrong about this house. In horror films
there is always a character who has an instinct on
something not being right. This links in with my
previous post on the type of characters that are in
horror films.
The next few shots will be of the two sisters
eating their dinner happily. There will be
midshot’s and close ups to show the girls
emotions of them being happy. It sets the mood
of everything being at an equilibrium where
there is no tension. The audience will be able to
also feel relaxed at this point because it is
something they can relate to also.
4. The next shots will be of Jessica seeing Nora into her
room trying to convince her to like the house. There
will be shot reverse shot to show them having a
conversation. This will be used to help the audience to
see how eager Jessica actually is and to show Nora to
contrast Jessica. It will also make Jessica look gullible as
she doesn't’t know what will actually happen.
The next shot will be a wide shot of Jessica cleaning
the kitchen from the dinner they had, and then
trying to open a cupboard. The cupboard wont
open which makes her frustrated and force it open.
At this point the audience will feel tense as they
will know that the cupboard was sealed shut for a
reason.
5. A close up of a Box will be shown. Jessica will pick the
box up and look inside. Inside are DVD’s and a Diary.
This will make the audience suspicious and want to
know why this was locked away. A shot reverse shot
will be used to show Jessica’s confused reaction of
what these DVD’s are.
A midshot shows Jessica thinking of what these
DVD’s could be. A fast series of close ups then
show her to be getting to her computer and
watching one of the DVD’s. A shot shows her
reaction as the DVD starts. This allows the
audience to sit at the edge of their seat and
wonder what it is that being shown.
6. A series of shots on this film shows Lyra and Kieran to
be taking a girl into the woods. Lyra seems cheerful
whilst Kieran has a determined look on his face. The
audience wouldn't’t suspect anything at the moment
and neither does Jessica.
A midshot of Jessica shows her neutral expression.
We can then see that the DVD has a blank black
screen, and then cuts into a scene where Kieran is
taking a knife out. A close up shows Jessica to start
looking scared.
7. Then a shot shows Kieran to be killing the
child. I will be using a doll and a close up angle
of Kieran's back facing the camera, as I don’t
want a child involved in this scene and so the
audience wont be able to tell that it’s a doll.
This scares and shocks the audience as well
Jessica.
A Midshot shows her reaction as she stand
up in fright and starts feeling out of breath.
This is similar emotions to what the
audience will be feeling. She leaves the
room in a rush.
8. Jessica is shown to shake Nora awake and start
shouting and panicking. Nora doesn’t panic because
she wants to think realistically about the situation. I
will use close ups to show this so that the audience
can see the reactions of both characters whilst the
trailer still keeps tense and tight.
They are both shown this time to be watching the
film together, but this time its another one. A mid
shot shows Nora to be interested whilst Jessica is
frightened. This is used to show the contrast
between the characters. A track shows them
watching the film whilst the camera moves closer
in to them and this connotes someone is
sneaking up on them. A midshot of the girls
watching the DVD is shown as their reactions
become frightened.
9. The same shot lingers and then as their
expressions look more and more frightened,
suddenly Lyra is standing behind them and
grabs Nora’s shoulder. This scares the sisters as
well as making the audience jump with fright. A
series of fast shots are then shown of Lyra
walking after them within the house. Shots of
her screaming with blood on her hands.
A shot then shows the two sisters to be looking
through the box again and also through the
diary. They realize that maybe Lyra wasn’t
responsible for the deaths and she had no
control over the situation. This keeps the
audience sitting at the edge of their seats
wondering what the trust answer is.
10. They both build the courage to search the
woods for any answers. They come across a
child’s shoe which they recognize from the
DVD. This is shown through midshots, close
ups and shot reverse shot. A wide shot then
shows a woman ahead sitting down and
crying. A track is used to show the two sisters
walking towards her.
An over the shoulder shot then shows Nora
leaning to tap the woman to see if she is okay.
The woman turns around and it is Lyra, she
screams and the trailer cuts to the Film name.
This is a good way to end the trailer as it
allows the audience to be frightened one last
time whilst holding onto suspense and want to
see more.
