Mural of - St Eustace (c1480) This painting inspired many people including ‘Russell Hobon’ who had been inspired by this painting to write a book called ‘Riddley Walker.’ This is only part of a much bigger mural which are each telling a story as u move up the mural. The Narrative starts here; at the bottom of the painting with Roman General Placidus (Eustace) on his knees before a stag. He experiences a vision of the crucified Christ between its antlers. Back then especially during the Medieval period, many Murals were made to tell stories, they were also used to increase people’s knowledge on religion and Christianity. Many murals were made back in the 15th century. This Mural was discovered in Canterbury Cathedral Mural of – St Eustace (c1480.) The purpose of this Mural was to show us what happened to this man
3. Medieval Mural and its tale of Witches During this period Christians believed in witches; this was shown through the painting . The Mural is about Which hunters trying to identify their prey. Their was a rumour that men were being robbed of their genitals. Their are two groups one which is disrupting the nest and the other are fighting over the fruit. It is a 13th century Mural which was discovered four years ago, at Tuscany Massa Marittima. The purpose of this Mural is to show people how witches were seen back then, it was a warning to others; showing the consequences of what happened. Many people believed in mythical stories especially about witches. The person who discovered the painting says ‘ its a surviving representations of Witchcraft in Christian Europe. The Mural was painted over that’s how it was preserved.
