Role Description
A Accountable The individual who is ultimately responsible.
Includes Yes/No authority and veto power. Only
one individual can be assigned to an activity.
R Responsible The individual(s) who actually completes the
task. Responsibility for action implementation
can be shared.
C Consult The individual(s) to be consulted prior to a final
decision or action. Two way communication.
I Inform The individual(s) who needs to be informed after
a decision or action is taken. One way
communication.

9. Steps
• Get the “helicopter view”: understand the process, input
and output
• Determine how detail the map will be
• Identify all activity and how they are connected to each
other
• Determine ARCI of each activity
• Determine service level and other information needed.
