Firstly, we researched into several different people finding out about what they looked into. Each looked into different aspects of audience theory. Throughout our project this helped us greatly. Below, is what we learnt and why it was helpful. We made sure that we followed certain theories whilst producing our movie trailer. We looked into Hartley's theory making us realise that both genders are important. This helped us when making decisions for our filming as we realised that we should include both male and female characters if we wanted to make our product successful. Another group in Hartley’s theory is age, after researching into this thoroughly we made a group decision that our product would be aimed at young adults. Once we decided that we were going to create our trailer within the genre of horror/thriller, we gave our trailer the certificate of 18. We then found out information that helped us decide key information including the certain things we need to do to make our audience attracted, an example of this is using a variety of camera angles, shots and movements. Another important aspect that will attract our audience is the characters, for example in a variety of films that are attracting young adults they have also used young adults to play a part in them. Due to research, this is because they can relate to characters therefore we have chosen to have several of our characters at a similar age. We later looked at Richard Dyer’s theory ‘Utopian Solutions’. This states that people will respond to a message if it offers them a solution for the inadequacies in their lives. The inadequacy could be boredom. Our solution to this would be to watch our film trailer. Lastly, Abraham Maslow helped us when making some final decisions. He proposed that we all have the 8 same basic needs. When we looked into this further we found out that our product should target these leading our product to a greater chance of success. One of the key needs is Affiliation (the need to belong to a group), we thought that people will go and see this film in a group and then later discuss the film therefore being part of a group.
