Essay on Forgiveness and Sin
Forgiveness and Sin
The overall theme of the Bible is simple to find, as it is on nearly every single page of it. It is that of man's sin and God's attempt to forgive him of
that sin while still being absolutely holy and absolutely just. First, God gives man His Law. These are the same rules and regulations that manyJewish
Orthodox follow to this very day. Next, in the supreme act of love, God sends His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for man's sins in a final act of forgiveness.
Both of these acts are seen through the life of a single person, the essential founder of the Protestant faith and one of the primary founders of
Christianity through the ages – the Apostle Paul.
Paul was raised as a Roman Jew from Tarsus known as Saul. He was...show more content...
Paul traveled throughout the Roman Empire founding new churches and leading thousands of people to faith in Jesus Christ. He fought with
Apostles such as Peter and James who thought that Christianity should remain only a Jewish religion. He taught that Christ's forgiveness was
available to all people, slave or free, man or woman, adult or child. As a result of Paul's never ending preaching, he spent most of his life as a
believer in Roman prisons. Nearly every single letter we currently have from him was written while he was in prison. Yet despite of his current abode,
Paul preached of God's forgiveness through Christ, and that Christ's followers should rejoice no matter what their current situation was.
Paul eventually died at the hands of the Roman Empire, directly because of his belief in Jesus of Nazareth, the One he proclaimed as Christ.
Now that I have established the history of the life of Paul, I would like to look at one aspect of his life in particular, and that is how he viewed sin
and forgiveness. According to Paul's Pharisee training, sin was breaking the Law and forgiveness was offered only through ritualistic sacrifice to God.
After Paul's conversion though, he embraced a very different view of forgiveness: that of forgiveness through belief in Jesus Christ.
As the Pharisee Saul, Paul believed firmly in the Jewish Law and that forgiveness came only in keeping the entire Law throughout life. The Jewish
Law is composed of literally

But there is an interesting reason for forgiving. When we are wronged, we have two choices. We can either respond by seeking revenge, or we can
forgive. If we choose revenge, we are filled with so much anger. Once you get your revenge it'll leave you empty. "Anger is a hard urge to satisfy
and can become habitual" (Arnold). But forgiveness allows us to move on. As described earlier, forgiveness has many different forms. A different
case where forgiveness is seen is with Andrea, a woman in my church. She struggled to accept a much heavier burden, she miscarried three times
before having a healthy child. Andrea's story is not, strictly about blaming or "forgiving" God. The real journey for her was accepting the loss of
her babies without feeling as if these miscarriages was somehow God trying to punish her. In showing how she was strong enough to wrestle
through her emotions and somehow find peace. She blamed God at first. "The emotional pain was at least as severe as the physical. Why, God?
Why me? Why do you have to take away this tiny soul so soon? What have I done wrong?" (Andrea). Just the feeling of not being able to control
the fate of you incoming child is frustrating and it was taking a toll on not only her emotional health, but her physical health. "Our pastor consoled
me: God is a God of love, not of punishment, and he is there to ease our pain" (Andrea). After looking towards the church for guidance in her time
of grief she was moved by what'd shed heard from her pastor. It moved her to where she accepted what'd happened to her and her lost children.
"Slowly, with time and with the loving help of those around me, I was able to feel that this deeply painful experience had given me an inkling of
the love of God, who cares about the suffering of people and who was, I am convinced, right there beside me in my pain" (Andrea). This showed
where her emotional and mental state were after facing such tragedies. She was understanding that God loved her and not matter the deep pain she
feels, God is there to help her heal. Today Andrea is the mother of a beautiful six–year–old daughter. Although she's saddened about her other
pregnancies, she is not bitter. This specific story of forgiveness illustrates a

Definition Essay On Forgiveness
You have heard the term forgive and forget but what is forgiveness? The book definition of forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or
being forgiven. When you forgive someone you stop being so vexed or resentful towards anyone for any error they have done to you. Forgiving is
the first step to finding peace in a unwholesome situation that has occurred in your life. For example, a drunk driver strikes your car and you are
paralyzed from your waist down. You have two alternatives, you can despise and feel anger towards the person and be miserable, letting it destroy
you on the inside or you can forgive them, feel tranquility and work on rebuilding yourself. If you continue to blame them for their actions and dislike
them, you will

Self Forgiveness

Summary
Since 1985 there has been a tremendous increase in research regarding intrapersonal forgiveness, but very little regarding self–forgiveness. The purpose
of this article was to bring attention to the topic of self–forgiveness within this growing body of research. The definitions of self–forgiveness from
many disciplines were reviewed along with what features of self–forgiveness differ from those of intrapersonal forgiveness emphasizing the need for an
increase in empirical research on the subject matter.
There are many unanswered questions regarding self–forgiveness. It is questioned if the true self–forgiveness yields the same result as pseudo...show

The simple act of defining self–forgiveness in a way that is applicable across disciplines provides counselor and researchers a better starting point
when approaching the topic of self–forgiveness.
One concept I found very interesting was the distinction between true self–forgiveness and pseudo self–forgiveness. It is intuitive for me to believe that
it is not possible for pseudo–self forgiveness to have the same effect as true self–forgiveness, but with out research on the matter how can one be sure.
When I read that the test for self–forgiveness cannot differentiate between the two, it made me wonder if it is difficult for a person or a counselor to
know the difference. It also made me wonder if it is possible that simply believing that things are better can actually make someone feel better.
I also found the question regarding the appropriateness of self–forgiveness to be interesting. When a person believes something is their fault that is not,
what approach should a counselor take? Is it more appropriate to spend the time and effort on developing the skills to know what happened was not
the client's fault, or is it more appropriate to provide the skills that will allow the person to forgive his or herself for what they believed they caused to
happen? While this would have to be considered on a case–by–case basis, as a counselor it would be helpful to have more research on the topic that
results in guidance on how to approach these types of

What Is Love And Forgiveness Essay
"Love and Forgiveness" We say that "Love and Forgiveness" are just words that shows an intimate attitude towards the people around us and can
affect the relationship between a person to another individual like in love, where love shows a very strong felling of affection to that specific person
and forgiveness is a voluntary act where you approach the person with an attitude in regards of what offense you did and say "sorry" but these two
words "Love" and "Forgiveness" are things that is hard to give or to be entrusted with someone if we see that they don't deserve it. Learning how to
love and to forgive is very important especially in this generation where people tend to have a stubborn heart because of hurts that was experienced and

Forgiveness And Forgiveness : Forgiveness
Forgiveness is a topic that is relevant to every person who has ever lived. We all need forgiveness, and we all need to give forgiveness. However,
before we can tackle what forgiveness is, we need to address some faulty thinking when it comes to forgiveness. There are several things that
forgiveness is not. It is not having a good feeling towards the person who wronged you. If you are waiting to feel good towards the person who hurt
you, you are going to wait a long time. Forgiveness is not simply a feeling. Forgiveness is also not ignoring the offense or forgetting that it ever
happened. You cannot pretend something didn't happen. Forgiveness does not mean restoring full trust to that person again or having the exact same
relationship....show more content...
God is perfect, and cannot forget anything, but forgetting is a passive human trait. Choosing not to remember is active, and that is choosing not to hold
sin against another by not bringing it up again, or shaming another person with it, or using it against a person in any way. Forgiveness brings
consequences. The offense committed may mean that we cannot trust that person again, and that is not wrong. It would be wrong, however, to refuse
to ever trust that person by not accepting any efforts to establish trust. There can also be other serious consequences of sin, and those consequences do
not make you unforgiving. "There is no promise in Scripture that God's forgiveness will eradicate all the consequences of sin." Forgiveness means
resisting thoughts of revenge. Forgiveness means wishing the other person well and having sympathy for them. It means praying for them. Forgiveness
seeks reconciliation and always being willing to serve them (Exodus 23:4).
Choosing not to forgive can have serious consequences. Bitterness begins to rule the life of an unforgiving person. He finds himself filled with anger
and mistrust of other people. He only speaks to those who sympathize with his hurt and do not challenge him. The hurt he has experienced becomes the
center of his life and his motivation for everything he does. The incident controls him. "Facts are skewed, information is twisted, and sometimes reality
is ignored in order to justify

Increase Self Esteem, by practicing Forgiveness
Forgiveness is a very powerful and rare quality. When we forgive someone, we indirectly reveal something about our inner nature. When we don't
forgive, we continue to hold onto our bad feelings and inner anguish against the person. The ability to forgive doesn't come easily to everybody, and
when practiced, it sets us apart from others, and brings us respect.
Unforgiving people often feel that they are victims of other people's unacceptable behaviour. This victim mentality, can build up a list of things the
other person has done & increase the resentment and anger inside us. Forgiveness releases these negative feelings, and helps people come together.
When a person views himself as a victim, he experiences pain. At times, it...show more content...
Who should we forgive? Perhaps the simplest answer is – everyone!
We can be more forgiving:
пѓјBy recognizing our own faults – we will then be able to forgive other's faults
пѓјBy not placing such high standards on others
пѓјBy realizing that our values are different from other's
пѓјBy trying to see things from the other person's viewpoint as well
пѓјBy analysing what kind of a person are we? Are we perfect? Would we like others to forgive us when we make a mistake?
пѓјBy asking ourselves what we will gain or lose by not forgiving someone i.e. list the benefits and the negatives, (there will be many more negatives).
Then make a list of what are the benefits and negatives of forgiving that person, (we will actually see many more positives) ...
Soon, we will be able to understand, appreciate and practice the positives and benefits of forgiving.

Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness
In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to "letting go". Instead of holding a grudge to the offender, we should give them pardon. In
Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: "And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into
temptation; but deliver us from evil." Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt found in Matthew
18:23–35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the journey offorgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment
towards the particular person or situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion of being
rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also entails benefits that can improve health and increase our
progress towards living a wholesome Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body but one
with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God
forgave us for our own sins. In order to be forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not forgive us
for our sins (Matthew 6:14–15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in making their calling and election since doing these
makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is God's salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and
elected on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly virtues while actively living in a Christian
lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them
from growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we can show them that they too can be resolved
from their past issues.
Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard

Forgiveness is a hard thing to give because forgiveness of another human being involves having you to forgive yourself. It seems a lot easier to
withhold forgiveness and remain a victim. The forgiveness that I have given away or I have received has shaped who I am today, therefore becoming
a part of me. We live in a world that has now lost some of the connections that we did have in our relationships with other human beings. There is not
on factor that lead to this but several. These factors have made it more difficult to respond and find a right way to handle certain situations. We feel

What do you want to pass down to your children? From the beginning of time having a family was important. Astonishingly, to have children and
pass the family name down is still a blessing today. Teaching the future generation traits and qualities is essentially creating tomorrow's leaders. This
question makes me consider how one simple act can mold people's lives and accordingly create a chain reaction. One trait I aspire for my children to
inherit is my quality of forgiveness. Forgiveness changed my perspective in the world by understanding how much of an impression it has on the
world's faith, perseverance, and love. Our God forgives our daily sins for he knows that we are imperfect. Yearningly, I hope my children to imitate this
Godly quality and "forgive one another freely", thus building strength in their faith in their relationships, whether it is with God, their spouse, or their
friends. All of my relationships are present today due to forgiveness. Optimistically, I wait to teach my children to resemble forgiveness so they will
cultivate strength and be unmovable with their faith. When people witness my future offspring and I demonstrate these acts of forgiveness, kindness
will continue and flourish in the family, community, and hopefully the world....show more content...

Although Sonya offers forgiveness and provides a Christlike example to Raskolnikov, and is the catalyst for his change, she cannot do everything;
Raskolnikov only accepts and receives forgiveness after he humbles himself and repents. Even after Sonya offers him forgiveness, Raskolnikov does
not believe that her offer has much power. He says, "'If I am guilty, forgive me (though if I'm guilty, I cannot be forgiven)'" (Dostoyevsky 519). He is
reticent to accept forgiveness because he believes that it cannot cover his guilt. He does not want to repent because that would be admitting a sin that he
does not believe an be covered by forgiveness. Tired of his guilt and boosted by Sonya's encouragement, he eventually confesses. Dostoyevsky
describes, "And so crushed was he by the hopeless anguish and anxiety of this whole time, and especially of the last few hours, that he simply threw
himself into the possibility of this wholesome, new, full sensation. It came to him suddenly in a sort of fit, caught fire in his soul from a single spark,
and suddenly, like a flame, engulfed him. Everything softened in him all at once, and the tears flowed. He simply fell to the earth where he stood..."
(Dostoyevsky 525). This moment, where he falls to the ground at the crossroads, confessing to no one in particular and yet the whole world, is the first

Forgiveness Reflection
Forgiveness is a concept that most people do not understand, and I must admit I was one of those people before I took the class. My experience with
this concept was mainly through church sermons where the pastor explained God forgave us of our sins to restore a relationship with us. Therefore,
my definition was clouded by these sermons and I would have said forgiveness was saying you are sorry no matter who was at fault, showing remorse
for your actions, changing your actions, and reconciling to the point of being civil to the person that had wronged you. Thankfully, because of the
class Forgiveness & Communication, I have obtained information that will empower me to move forward toward a more forgiving life style.
Through class lecture, class participation, and different types of resources I have learned many things including, the need to forgive, what
forgiveness is not, what forgiveness is, effective methods of letting go, and the tools to know if you have truly forgiven and are now different. The
need to forgive affects us physically, mentally, relationally, and spiritually. The intensity and duration of the unforgiveness can cause it to become
debilitative. Accordingly, unforgiveness does not affect the other person, it affects you negatively. For instance, like the quote of Marianne
Williamson "unforgiveness is like drinking poison yourself and waiting for the other person to die." Research shows a lot of our sicknesses such
as high blood pressure and heart trouble are intensified by the lack of our not letting go of past hurts. Mentally we spend time thinking about a past
transgression more than we spend time thinking about happy events in our lives. I think it is like ivy growing in your mind, you first think the ivy is
pretty but then it starts to grow and eventually covers the wall of your mind and chokes out all other flowering vegetation, leaving you with only the
transgression and no beautiful memories. If we do not forgive it will affect our relationships and can eventually cause the relationship to cease to be.
Lastly, our spiritual growth can be hampered by our lack of forgiving and we cannot have peace in our lives. Booker T Washington once said, "the

The Pros And Cons Of Forgiveness
According to Mc CuUough, Pargament, & Thoresen, 2000, social scientists have adopted many conceptualization of forgiveness, alternatively
characterizing the construct as an emotion, a decision, a behaviour, and a motivational change. According to Worthington (2001), Forgiveness is
defined as the emotional replacement of (1) hot emotions of anger or fear that follow a perceived hurt or offense, or (2) unforgiveness that follows
ruminating about the transgression, by substituting positive emotions such as unselfish love, empathy, compassion, or even romantic love.
Forgiveness is a concept with philosophical, theological and psychological implications. As greater emphasis is placed on positive psychology,

Pro and Cons of Forgiveness
We can gain some benefits from forgiveness. One of the benefits of forgiveness is that it is good for our heart. This is because when we try to
forgive other people, we can train our heart to be more patience when we are dealing in some issues in our daily life. Besides that, forgiveness also
can always train us to be more forgiven people rather than someone who hold revenge towards others, which is not good for our heart. It can cause the
hatred within our heart. According to Siromi (2012), forgiveness reflects our heart attitude towards God and the person who sinned.
In this context, we can forgive, because there are two components to forgiveness which is attitudinal and transactional. Before we approach the
person who sinned against us, we must approach God and battle to have a forgiving and merciful heart. To forgive someone, we really need to be
sincere so that there would not be revenge that particular individual. We have to make sure that our heart is ready to forgive that person and we
really mean it. Thus, we will be very easy and the peaceful finally be with us. Our heart will be in peace because there is no more hatred and we
can go through our life happily. So, the forgiveness is really good for our heart. It trains us to be more patient in order to deal with person who did
wrong to us. It also gives us a mercy heart so that there will be no revenge between that particular individual and

Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness In Life
Have you ever felt so mad that you were about to burst? As any high school student knows, there is always going to be drama. I see drama at my
school every day. Being a highschool girl, my friends and I fight sometimes. We normally don't talk for awhile, and then we get over it. While some
fights may last longer than others, we all decide to forgive each other in the end. Most of us say or do things we don't mean, and then we wish we
could take it back. If there wasn't forgiveness in my school, nobody would talk to each other. Everyone has their own way of deciding to forgive or
not, but our experiences with forgiveness, beliefs on what degree we should forgive, and rules and norms that shape how we see forgiveness help us in
making that decision.
I have experiences in my own life that have shaped how I understand forgiveness. Experiences with my family have showed me that it doesn't matter
how mad I get at them, I have to forgive them. There was a time when I was little that I was so upset with my parents, I told them I was leaving. I
said I was going to go live with my grandma because I didn't want to live at home anymore. As a little kid, I said things to my parents that I regretted.
My parents were understanding, and they forgave me for what I had said. They are my family, and they help me through everything. There is a lot
of forgiveness in my family because we always say things that we don't mean. I have also learned that sometimes I have to forgive myself. When I
do something wrong I get so mad at myself. If I say something to my parents that hurts them, I say I'm sorry, and no matter how mad I get at
myself, I know they forgive me so I have to forgive myself. I also watch tv shows and read articles about forgiveness. We forgive others every single
day, whether we know it or not. If we didn't have forgiveness, our lives would not be as good as they are now and nobody would speak to each other.
I know we should forgive as much as we can, but I also feel that there is a certain degree we should forgive someone. If we say or do something that is
mean, I feel that we should be forgiving if it doesn't harm us. We should forgive others for the things we do ourselves. If we expect forgiveness we

Allah (Subhana Wataala) has granted wisdom to humans. The wisdom calls for responsibility. The more wisdom a person has, the more he/she is

When the wisdom is missing, the responsibility is also not there. Little children are not held responsible, because their minds are not developed. The
insane are not responsible, because they have lost the thinking capacity and judgment. However, human beings are also not perfect, sometime mistakes

Even though many circumstances need forgiveness and God often calls is to forgive. Everyone makes mistakes and some are easy to forgive but not
always. Forgiveness isn't always easy, but is enormously important for a relationship to move on.
According to the bible god desires that we as humans seek forgiveness. Forgiveness isn't always pleasant to give to somebody, and giving forgiveness
isn't always apparent. No doubt that forgiveness may be hard but god will lead and follow you through it. Forgiveness is in over 20 bible verses, and
that shows that forgiveness is an important thing all around.
As read in Matthew 6:14–15 "14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you

Christian Beliefs About Forgiveness Essay
Christian Beliefs About Forgiveness
Christians believe that forgiveness is there trade mark and is essential that you call yourself a Christian.
Jesus had more to say about forgiveness than anything else through out his teaching. So this shows us how important it is to us today. He taught
forgiveness and carried his teaching into his own life.
The old law of moses stated "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and a life for a life". but Jesus replaced this and said "love god and love your
neighbour as you love yourself". this became known as the golden rule.
Every action taken should be guided by these principals.
In the sermon on the mount Jesus also explained about loving...show more content...
the other servants were distressed and told the king.
The king called the servant in "you wicked servant, I cancelled all your debts and begged you did too. Shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow
servant as I had mercy on you." in anger the master had him handed over to the jailers to be tortured until he should pay back what he owed'.
The king in this parable represents God who forgives sin. The parable teaches that if we want God to forgive us then we must be prepared to forgive
the sins of others. Although the servant in the story is forgiven, he is not prepared, in turn, to forgive the smaller sin of another. Jesus warns that god
will punish those who do not forgive. The master (God) is willing to welcome back sinners if they turn to him. People must show god that they are
sorry for their sins.
Another parable was the one on 'the prodigal son'
'A man had two sons which the younger one wanted a share of the estate. Not long after that the younger son packed up and had left to a distant
country and there he squandered his wealth in wild living. He hired himself out to a citizen who sent him to feed pigs in the far fields. He finally
came to his senses and said to himself what was he ever going to say to his father. He was thinking it through in his head and finally thought of what
he was going to say

Essay On Forgiveness And Sin

  • 1. Essay on Forgiveness and Sin Forgiveness and Sin The overall theme of the Bible is simple to find, as it is on nearly every single page of it. It is that of man's sin and God's attempt to forgive him of that sin while still being absolutely holy and absolutely just. First, God gives man His Law. These are the same rules and regulations that manyJewish Orthodox follow to this very day. Next, in the supreme act of love, God sends His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for man's sins in a final act of forgiveness. Both of these acts are seen through the life of a single person, the essential founder of the Protestant faith and one of the primary founders of Christianity through the ages – the Apostle Paul. Paul was raised as a Roman Jew from Tarsus known as Saul. He was...show more content... Paul traveled throughout the Roman Empire founding new churches and leading thousands of people to faith in Jesus Christ. He fought with Apostles such as Peter and James who thought that Christianity should remain only a Jewish religion. He taught that Christ's forgiveness was available to all people, slave or free, man or woman, adult or child. As a result of Paul's never ending preaching, he spent most of his life as a believer in Roman prisons. Nearly every single letter we currently have from him was written while he was in prison. Yet despite of his current abode, Paul preached of God's forgiveness through Christ, and that Christ's followers should rejoice no matter what their current situation was. Paul eventually died at the hands of the Roman Empire, directly because of his belief in Jesus of Nazareth, the One he proclaimed as Christ. Now that I have established the history of the life of Paul, I would like to look at one aspect of his life in particular, and that is how he viewed sin and forgiveness. The Jewish Law is composed of literally

  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness But there is an interesting reason for forgiving. When we are wronged, we have two choices. We can either respond by seeking revenge, or we can forgive. If we choose revenge, we are filled with so much anger. Once you get your revenge it'll leave you empty. "Anger is a hard urge to satisfy and can become habitual" (Arnold). But forgiveness allows us to move on. As described earlier, forgiveness has many different forms. A different case where forgiveness is seen is with Andrea, a woman in my church. She struggled to accept a much heavier burden, she miscarried three times before having a healthy child. Andrea's story is not, strictly about blaming or "forgiving" God. The real journey for her was accepting the loss of her babies without feeling as if these miscarriages was somehow God trying to punish her. In showing how she was strong enough to wrestle through her emotions and somehow find peace. She blamed God at first. "The emotional pain was at least as severe as the physical. Why, God? Why me? Why do you have to take away this tiny soul so soon? What have I done wrong?" (Andrea). Just the feeling of not being able to control the fate of you incoming child is frustrating and it was taking a toll on not only her emotional health, but her physical health. "Our pastor consoled me: God is a God of love, not of punishment, and he is there to ease our pain" (Andrea). After looking towards the church for guidance in her time of grief she was moved by what'd shed heard from her pastor. It moved her to where she accepted what'd happened to her and her lost children. "Slowly, with time and with the loving help of those around me, I was able to feel that this deeply painful experience had given me an inkling of the love of God, who cares about the suffering of people and who was, I am convinced, right there beside me in my pain" (Andrea). This showed where her emotional and mental state were after facing such tragedies. She was understanding that God loved her and not matter the deep pain she feels, God is there to help her heal. Today Andrea is the mother of a beautiful six–year–old daughter. Although she's saddened about her other pregnancies, she is not bitter. This specific story of forgiveness illustrates a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Definition Essay On Forgiveness You have heard the term forgive and forget but what is forgiveness? The book definition of forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. When you forgive someone you stop being so vexed or resentful towards anyone for any error they have done to you. Forgiving is the first step to finding peace in a unwholesome situation that has occurred in your life. For example, a drunk driver strikes your car and you are paralyzed from your waist down. You have two alternatives, you can despise and feel anger towards the person and be miserable, letting it destroy you on the inside or you can forgive them, feel tranquility and work on rebuilding yourself. If you continue to blame them for their actions and dislike them, you will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Self Forgiveness | Shelia B. Hall| | Liberty University| 1/18/2015| | Summary Since 1985 there has been a tremendous increase in research regarding intrapersonal forgiveness, but very little regarding self–forgiveness. The purpose of this article was to bring attention to the topic of self–forgiveness within this growing body of research. The definitions of self–forgiveness from many disciplines were reviewed along with what features of self–forgiveness differ from those of intrapersonal forgiveness emphasizing the need for an increase in empirical research on the subject matter. There are many unanswered questions regarding self–forgiveness. It is questioned if the true self–forgiveness yields the same result as pseudo...show more content... The simple act of defining self–forgiveness in a way that is applicable across disciplines provides counselor and researchers a better starting point when approaching the topic of self–forgiveness. One concept I found very interesting was the distinction between true self–forgiveness and pseudo self–forgiveness. It is intuitive for me to believe that it is not possible for pseudo–self forgiveness to have the same effect as true self–forgiveness, but with out research on the matter how can one be sure. When I read that the test for self–forgiveness cannot differentiate between the two, it made me wonder if it is difficult for a person or a counselor to know the difference. It also made me wonder if it is possible that simply believing that things are better can actually make someone feel better. I also found the question regarding the appropriateness of self–forgiveness to be interesting. When a person believes something is their fault that is not, what approach should a counselor take? Is it more appropriate to spend the time and effort on developing the skills to know what happened was not the client's fault, or is it more appropriate to provide the skills that will allow the person to forgive his or herself for what they believed they caused to happen? While this would have to be considered on a case–by–case basis, as a counselor it would be helpful to have more research on the topic that results in guidance on how to approach these types of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. What Is Love And Forgiveness Essay "Love and Forgiveness" We say that "Love and Forgiveness" are just words that shows an intimate attitude towards the people around us and can affect the relationship between a person to another individual like in love, where love shows a very strong felling of affection to that specific person and forgiveness is a voluntary act where you approach the person with an attitude in regards of what offense you did and say "sorry" but these two words "Love" and "Forgiveness" are things that is hard to give or to be entrusted with someone if we see that they don't deserve it. Learning how to love and to forgive is very important especially in this generation where people tend to have a stubborn heart because of hurts that was experienced and leads...show more content... Martin Luther King Jr. once said that "forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a constant attitude" it says here that forgiveness is not only when they offended you but in every time and this attitude should never change because it bring a great effect to the society. • 7. Forgiveness And Forgiveness : Forgiveness Forgiveness is a topic that is relevant to every person who has ever lived. We all need forgiveness, and we all need to give forgiveness. However, before we can tackle what forgiveness is, we need to address some faulty thinking when it comes to forgiveness. There are several things that forgiveness is not. It is not having a good feeling towards the person who wronged you. If you are waiting to feel good towards the person who hurt you, you are going to wait a long time. Forgiveness is not simply a feeling. Forgiveness is also not ignoring the offense or forgetting that it ever happened. You cannot pretend something didn't happen. Forgiveness does not mean restoring full trust to that person again or having the exact same relationship....show more content... God is perfect, and cannot forget anything, but forgetting is a passive human trait. Choosing not to remember is active, and that is choosing not to hold sin against another by not bringing it up again, or shaming another person with it, or using it against a person in any way. Forgiveness brings consequences. The offense committed may mean that we cannot trust that person again, and that is not wrong. It would be wrong, however, to refuse to ever trust that person by not accepting any efforts to establish trust. There can also be other serious consequences of sin, and those consequences do not make you unforgiving. "There is no promise in Scripture that God's forgiveness will eradicate all the consequences of sin." Forgiveness means resisting thoughts of revenge. Forgiveness means wishing the other person well and having sympathy for them. It means praying for them. Forgiveness seeks reconciliation and always being willing to serve them (Exodus 23:4). Choosing not to forgive can have serious consequences. Bitterness begins to rule the life of an unforgiving person. He finds himself filled with anger and mistrust of other people. He only speaks to those who sympathize with his hurt and do not challenge him. The hurt he has experienced becomes the center of his life and his motivation for everything he does. The incident controls him. "Facts are skewed, information is twisted, and sometimes reality is ignored in order to justify Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Speech On Forgiveness Increase Self Esteem, by practicing Forgiveness Forgiveness is a very powerful and rare quality. When we forgive someone, we indirectly reveal something about our inner nature. When we don't forgive, we continue to hold onto our bad feelings and inner anguish against the person. The ability to forgive doesn't come easily to everybody, and when practiced, it sets us apart from others, and brings us respect. Unforgiving people often feel that they are victims of other people's unacceptable behaviour. This victim mentality, can build up a list of things the other person has done & increase the resentment and anger inside us. Forgiveness releases these negative feelings, and helps people come together. When a person views himself as a victim, he experiences pain. At times, it...show more content... Who should we forgive? Perhaps the simplest answer is – everyone! We can be more forgiving: пѓјBy recognizing our own faults – we will then be able to forgive other's faults пѓјBy not placing such high standards on others пѓјBy realizing that our values are different from other's пѓјBy trying to see things from the other person's viewpoint as well пѓјBy analysing what kind of a person are we? Are we perfect? Would we like others to forgive us when we make a mistake? пѓјBy asking ourselves what we will gain or lose by not forgiving someone i.e. list the benefits and the negatives, (there will be many more negatives). Then make a list of what are the benefits and negatives of forgiving that person, (we will actually see many more positives) ... Soon, we will be able to understand, appreciate and practice the positives and benefits of forgiving. Can we delay learning the art of forgiving, and improving our self–esteem? • 9. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to "letting go". Instead of holding a grudge to the offender, we should give them pardon. In Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: "And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil." Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt found in Matthew 18:23–35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the journey offorgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment towards the particular person or situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion of being rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also entails benefits that can improve health and increase our progress towards living a wholesome Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body but one with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God forgave us for our own sins. In order to be forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not forgive us for our sins (Matthew 6:14–15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in making their calling and election since doing these makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is God's salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and elected on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly virtues while actively living in a Christian lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them from growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we can show them that they too can be resolved from their past issues. Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Forgiveness (Personal Essay) Set Yourself Free Forgiveness is a hard thing to give because forgiveness of another human being involves having you to forgive yourself. It seems a lot easier to withhold forgiveness and remain a victim. The forgiveness that I have given away or I have received has shaped who I am today, therefore becoming a part of me. We live in a world that has now lost some of the connections that we did have in our relationships with other human beings. There is not on factor that lead to this but several. These factors have made it more difficult to respond and find a right way to handle certain situations. • 11. College Essay On Forgiveness What do you want to pass down to your children? From the beginning of time having a family was important. Astonishingly, to have children and pass the family name down is still a blessing today. Teaching the future generation traits and qualities is essentially creating tomorrow's leaders. This question makes me consider how one simple act can mold people's lives and accordingly create a chain reaction. One trait I aspire for my children to inherit is my quality of forgiveness. Forgiveness changed my perspective in the world by understanding how much of an impression it has on the world's faith, perseverance, and love. Our God forgives our daily sins for he knows that we are imperfect. Yearningly, I hope my children to imitate this Godly quality and "forgive one another freely", thus building strength in their faith in their relationships, whether it is with God, their spouse, or their friends. All of my relationships are present today due to forgiveness. Optimistically, I wait to teach my children to resemble forgiveness so they will cultivate strength and be unmovable with their faith. When people witness my future offspring and I demonstrate these acts of forgiveness, kindness will continue and flourish in the family, community, and hopefully the world....show more content... • 14. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness And Punishment Although Sonya offers forgiveness and provides a Christlike example to Raskolnikov, and is the catalyst for his change, she cannot do everything; Raskolnikov only accepts and receives forgiveness after he humbles himself and repents. Even after Sonya offers him forgiveness, Raskolnikov does not believe that her offer has much power. He says, "'If I am guilty, forgive me (though if I'm guilty, I cannot be forgiven)'" (Dostoyevsky 519). He is reticent to accept forgiveness because he believes that it cannot cover his guilt. He does not want to repent because that would be admitting a sin that he does not believe an be covered by forgiveness. Tired of his guilt and boosted by Sonya's encouragement, he eventually confesses. Dostoyevsky describes, "And so crushed was he by the hopeless anguish and anxiety of this whole time, and especially of the last few hours, that he simply threw himself into the possibility of this wholesome, new, full sensation. It came to him suddenly in a sort of fit, caught fire in his soul from a single spark, and suddenly, like a flame, engulfed him. Everything softened in him all at once, and the tears flowed. He simply fell to the earth where he stood..." (Dostoyevsky 525). This moment, where he falls to the ground at the crossroads, confessing to no one in particular and yet the whole world, is the first time Raskolnikov humbles himself, physically. • 15. Forgiveness Reflection Forgiveness is a concept that most people do not understand, and I must admit I was one of those people before I took the class. My experience with this concept was mainly through church sermons where the pastor explained God forgave us of our sins to restore a relationship with us. Therefore, my definition was clouded by these sermons and I would have said forgiveness was saying you are sorry no matter who was at fault, showing remorse for your actions, changing your actions, and reconciling to the point of being civil to the person that had wronged you. Thankfully, because of the class Forgiveness & Communication, I have obtained information that will empower me to move forward toward a more forgiving life style. Through class lecture, class participation, and different types of resources I have learned many things including, the need to forgive, what forgiveness is not, what forgiveness is, effective methods of letting go, and the tools to know if you have truly forgiven and are now different. The need to forgive affects us physically, mentally, relationally, and spiritually. The intensity and duration of the unforgiveness can cause it to become debilitative. Accordingly, unforgiveness does not affect the other person, it affects you negatively. For instance, like the quote of Marianne Williamson "unforgiveness is like drinking poison yourself and waiting for the other person to die." Research shows a lot of our sicknesses such as high blood pressure and heart trouble are intensified by the lack of our not letting go of past hurts. Mentally we spend time thinking about a past transgression more than we spend time thinking about happy events in our lives. I think it is like ivy growing in your mind, you first think the ivy is pretty but then it starts to grow and eventually covers the wall of your mind and chokes out all other flowering vegetation, leaving you with only the transgression and no beautiful memories. If we do not forgive it will affect our relationships and can eventually cause the relationship to cease to be. Lastly, our spiritual growth can be hampered by our lack of forgiving and we cannot have peace in our lives. Booker T Washington once said, "the moment I begin to hate a man Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to Worthington (2001), Forgiveness is defined as the emotional replacement of (1) hot emotions of anger or fear that follow a perceived hurt or offense, or (2) unforgiveness that follows ruminating about the transgression, by substituting positive emotions such as unselfish love, empathy, compassion, or even romantic love. One of the benefits of forgiveness is that it is good for our heart. This is because when we try to forgive other people, we can train our heart to be more patience when we are dealing in some issues in our daily life. Besides that, forgiveness also can always train us to be more forgiven people rather than someone who hold revenge towards others, which is not good for our heart. It can cause the hatred within our heart. According to Siromi (2012), forgiveness reflects our heart attitude towards God and the person who sinned. In this context, we can forgive, because there are two components to forgiveness which is attitudinal and transactional. Before we approach the person who sinned against us, we must approach God and battle to have a forgiving and merciful heart. To forgive someone, we really need to be sincere so that there would not be revenge that particular individual. We have to make sure that our heart is ready to forgive that person and we really mean it. Thus, we will be very easy and the peaceful finally be with us. Our heart will be in peace because there is no more hatred and we can go through our life happily. So, the forgiveness is really good for our heart. It trains us to be more patient in order to deal with person who did wrong to us. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness In Life Have you ever felt so mad that you were about to burst? As any high school student knows, there is always going to be drama. I see drama at my school every day. Being a highschool girl, my friends and I fight sometimes. We normally don't talk for awhile, and then we get over it. While some fights may last longer than others, we all decide to forgive each other in the end. Most of us say or do things we don't mean, and then we wish we could take it back. If there wasn't forgiveness in my school, nobody would talk to each other. Everyone has their own way of deciding to forgive or not, but our experiences with forgiveness, beliefs on what degree we should forgive, and rules and norms that shape how we see forgiveness help us in making that decision. I have experiences in my own life that have shaped how I understand forgiveness. Experiences with my family have showed me that it doesn't matter how mad I get at them, I have to forgive them. There was a time when I was little that I was so upset with my parents, I told them I was leaving. I said I was going to go live with my grandma because I didn't want to live at home anymore. As a little kid, I said things to my parents that I regretted. My parents were understanding, and they forgave me for what I had said. They are my family, and they help me through everything. There is a lot of forgiveness in my family because we always say things that we don't mean. I have also learned that sometimes I have to forgive myself. When I do something wrong I get so mad at myself. If I say something to my parents that hurts them, I say I'm sorry, and no matter how mad I get at myself, I know they forgive me so I have to forgive myself. I also watch tv shows and read articles about forgiveness. We forgive others every single day, whether we know it or not. If we didn't have forgiveness, our lives would not be as good as they are now and nobody would speak to each other. I know we should forgive as much as we can, but I also feel that there is a certain degree we should forgive someone. If we say or do something that is mean, I feel that we should be forgiving if it doesn't harm us. We should forgive others for the things we do ourselves. If we expect forgiveness we have to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Jesus had more to say about forgiveness than anything else through out his teaching. So this shows us how important it is to us today. He taught forgiveness and carried his teaching into his own life. The old law of moses stated "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and a life for a life". but Jesus replaced this and said "love god and love your neighbour as you love yourself". this became known as the golden rule. Every action taken should be guided by these principals. In the sermon on the mount Jesus also explained about loving...show more content... the other servants were distressed and told the king. The king in this parable represents God who forgives sin. The parable teaches that if we want God to forgive us then we must be prepared to forgive the sins of others. Although the servant in the story is forgiven, he is not prepared, in turn, to forgive the smaller sin of another. Jesus warns that god will punish those who do not forgive. The master (God) is willing to welcome back sinners if they turn to him. People must show god that they are sorry for their sins.
