3. FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE SETTING A
WRITING TASK
1. Setting the task based on students’ level.
As we try to set up a writing task, the teacher in
charge should come up with ideas that is familiar with the
students. This is to enable the students to be able to answer the
task given to them without fail. While choosing a suitable
topic for the task, the teacher in charge should look into the
students level in the classroom. What is meant by students
level here can be categorized into three which are; beginner,
intermediate and advanced. By looking at these elements, the
task then will be fairly accustomed for the students level
which will enable them to construct their essay in the expected
way.

2. To assess whether the learning outcome is accomplished
Like every outcome of daily teaching in the
classroom, a teacher must have an objective they must
achieved at the end of their teaching process. Sometimes, by
just asking the students whether they can conclude what they
have learnt today, this is unnecessary convincing as they might
remember the outcome of the lesson today, but forget at the
later. Hence, by coming up with an essay that describe the
following objective from previous lesson could help assess
whether or not the goal is achieved.

3. Clearly define and situate the task within a problem
situation
As we looking into several option of essay questions,
students may have the feel of the need to write and respond to
the question without focusing on the main subject. This can
happen as the essay question is vague or open to numerous
interpretation. Thus, the writing task should provide the
students with an indication of the types of thinking they should
use in responding to the essay question. An effective essay
question will produce a valid evidence of the degree to which
students have achieved the intended learning outcome.

4. Prepare a rubric for assessment.
A rubric is essential for teachers as they have
something to rely on or to look into when assessing an
assessment. By preparing a rubric beforehand, this will lighten
up the burden of the teacher during the assessment as the
teacher will be able to look into the criteria provided in the
rubric outline without having to stop and search for answers.
