How knowledge of the Maya language can be a resource for learning Machine Learning (ML).

A brief proposal for an online course

2. The goal of this project is to create job
skills based on the unique
characteristics found in the languages
of the Native American communities.
This can also encourages the
appreciation of the language as well.

3. The key characteristic that is
presented is what is called the
split-ergativity in Maya, and
how it can help one to learn
machine learning as wells data
analytic skills in general.

4. Other languages have this
characteristic as well,
ranging from some of the
Australasian languages to Pashto
which is found in Afghanistan and
Pakistan.

5. -The computer provides the data
analytics.
The above refers to process and the
computer, a machine, creating an
action.
I will return to this idea and here are
examples of split-ergativity in English:

a hammer and nail.
In Maya, there would be essentially
have a special marker for the words in
bold above, the ergative words.

two analogies can be
presented:

8. As an inanimate object
like a computer generating a result
is separate to​​ the procedure of preparing
data in machine learning…

the ergative separate to
sentences describing
procedures in Maya.

10. FINAL NOTE: CROSS VALIDATION
• As Maya has the split-ergative, so does Cross Validation in Machine Learning have
essentially a split between training and testing data. This analogy will be explained
in more detail in the online course.
