Presentation Tools
And their relevance to contemporary learners
How can PowerPoint software
improve my pedagogy?
Will contemporary learners engage with dynamic presentations?
Hypothesis:
Contemporary learners will engage more actively with
dynamic presentations.
• A presentation is to be created using only PowerPoint.
• The technical attributes of the software will be explored, including sharing
and ethical use.
• The presentation will be dynamic and incorporate ICT learning from Topic 5,
Digital Tools 3.
• This presentation will be submitted and assessed.
Research:
• Knowing the attributes of contemporary learners, the presentation must be
authentic, even if novel.
• The software is used to redefine learning, not just to substitute previous
methodology.
• The presentation is able to be shared across various platforms, including
embedding and linking.
• Is it ethical? What are the implications surrounding students use of
presentation software, such as PowerPoint

Conclusion
• In knowing the contemporary learner and how they learn, (AITSL Standards
1.1), presentation software,(and a bit of creativity), can transform fairly
mundane information, into an engaging, interactive lesson. The presentation
can be displayed in a read only format and also where editing is allowed. This
particular feature is great to allow collaborative learning and real time
feedback from a variety of stakeholders . Sharing the presentation is made
easy through sharing a link or embedding into websites or blogs.
• While I do not claim or display technical proficiency in all aspects of
PowerPoint, I was able to create this presentation using existing templates
and embed charts, graphics and sounds with ease. Except for getting rid of
these pesky bullet points! Just kidding, of course I can do that…
Conclusion
While this presentation is a bit of fun, I feel it has displayed the versatility of this
program. Some beneficial features of PowerPoint are the online tools. A
presentation can be created either online or offline and transferred between.
The online version has less features but supports all the features of the PC
version. However, the online version is able to be embedded as I have done
here.
To be honest, it was a bit of a revelation for me just how much can be created
using PowerPoint. There’s no excuse for bland presentations after this
realisation.

Editor's Notes

  1. This is the question that your experiment answers
  2. Summarize your research in three to five points.
  3. List all of the steps used in completing your experiment. Remember to number your steps.
