Management of perennial Weed
2. INTRODUCTION
Perennial weed
Perennial grasses are most pernicious weed.
There are life cycle is about two years.
They adopted to withstand adverse condition.
Cynodon dactylon
Cyperus rotundus
3. They propagate not only through seed but also by under ground stem
, root, rhizome, tuber etc.
They are also further classified into three parts :-
[A] Simple perennials:- Plant propagate only by seed.
Eg :- Sonchus arvensis
[B] Bulbolus perennials:- Plant reproduce mainly from bulbs and seed .
Eg :- Alliums sp.
A B
[C] Creeping perennial :- Reproduced through seed as well as with one
of the following
4. Rhizome :- Plant having under ground stem .
Eg :- Sorghum halepense
• Stolon :- Plant having horizontal creeping .
Eg :- Cynodon dectylon
• Root :- Plant having enlarged root system with numerous bud .
Eg :- Convolvulus arvensis
• Tuber :- Plant having modified rhizomes adopted for storage of food .
Eg :- Cyperus rotundus
6. IMPORTANTANCE OF MANAGING PERENNIAL WEED
1. Cultural control method
2. Mechanical control method
3. Chemical control method
4. Biological control method
Cultural control method
The field has to kept weed free
Flowering of weeds should not be allowed
Proper plant spacing
Cover crops
Mechanical control method
we focuses on physical practice that destroy plant tissue .
Use some type of mechanical implement like that tractor to physically slice.
Knocking pests off of plants with a spray of water .
Mechanical method include tillage, hand weeding, burning etc ..
7. Chemical control method
A herbicide is a chemical use to kill the growth of some target plant.
In agriculture these target plant are weed .
Herbicide are controlling the weeds
Three types –
1. Post emergence herbicide
2. Pre emergence herbicides
3. Safety precautions
8. Biological control method.
Involves the using of living organisms agents
These living organism called bioagent.
Kind of classic biological agent like - Insect, corps fish, fungi, competitive
plant, other miscellaneous.
To use inter cropping
9. Conclusion
Perennial weeds should, if possible, be controlled by using a non
selective herbicide applied pre-harvest in the previous combinable crop
(the weeds must be green and actively growing), or by a stubble
treatment in the autumn.
Weeds cause many problems. Most importantly, weeds can reduce crop
yield. Weeds cause greater crop losses if they occur in large numbers, if
they get a head start on the crop, if they are especially vigorous, or if
they produce allelopathic substances.
