This document outlines activities for a biology lesson on cells. It includes:
1. An activity where students are grouped and look at pictures to answer guide questions.
2. Rubrics for the activities which evaluate neatness, creativity, content, presentation, teamwork and speed.
3. Information about cell theory, cell structures like the nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, microtubules, microfilaments, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi bodies, lysosomes, and mitochondria.
4. An activity called "Cell Got Talent" with another rubric evaluating neatness, content, presentation, teamwork and creativity.
4. Boss Q. Fader I

5.
6. Activity 1: Field TripInstruction:
1. Lets group the class into 4
2. Pick 1 Envelope containing 4
pictures
3. Answer the following guide
questions
4. Pick your favourite novelty song
5. Sing your favourite novelty song
with step once you are done
13. Cell Theory
Cells come from the reproduction of
existing cells (cell division)
All living things are made of cells
Cells are the basic unit of structure
and function in an organism (basic
unit of life)
33. Endoplasmic Reticulum - ER
Smooth ER
Rough ER
* Network of hollow membrane tubules
* Connects to nuclear envelope & cell membrane
* Functions in Synthesis of cell products & Transport
34. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough ER)
Proteins are made by ribosomes on ER surface
They are then threaded into the interior of the Rough ER to be modified and
transported
40. Lysosomes
• Contain digestive enzymes
• Break down food, bacteria,
and worn out cell parts for
cells
• Programmed for cell death
(APOPTOSIS)
• Lyse & release enzymes to
break down & recycle cell
parts)
41. Mitochondrion
(plural = mitochondria)
• “Powerhouse” of the cell
• Generate cellular energy (ATP)
• More active cells like muscle
cells have MORE mitochondria
• Both plants & animal cells have
mitochondria
• Site of CELLULAR RESPIRATION
(burning glucose)
42. Cilia & Flagella
• Cilia are shorter
and more
numerous on
cells
• Flagella are
longer and fewer
(usually 1-3) on
cells
