2. The Estonian Song
Festival is one of the
largest amateur choral
events in the world, a
Masterpiece of the Oral
and Intangible Heritage
of Humanity.
It is held every five years
in July on the Tallinn
Song Festival Grounds.
What does it mean?
3. The tradition of the song festival was born
along with Estonian national awakening. The
first national song festival was held in Tartu in
the summer of 1869.
Starting with the sixth festival in 1986, the
festival tradition moved to Tallinn.

Festival starts with placing
the fire to tower, what was
litted in Festival borncity
Tartu and was transferred
out of Estonia by the
Estonian Male Choirs to
festival time to Tallinn.

Up till now it has been
25 Song Festival since
1869.
The last Song and Dance
festival in 2009 set an
all-time record of the
people: there were
present approximately
154 000 people in 3
days.
