2. Lithuanians are fond of nature and have a strong feeling of
a shared culture that begins as early as primary
school, where folk music, national traditions, and holidays
play an important role.
4. THE ARTS
Lithuania has 53 museums. The initiator of modern fine art in
Lithuania is Mikolojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875-1911) - a
painter and composer, whose name is listed in international
art encyclopedias.
5. FOLK
LITHUANIA HAS A LONG HISTORY OF FOLK, POPULAR AND
CLASSICAL MUSICAL DEVELOPMENT. LITHUANIAN FOLK MUSIC IS
BASED PRIMARILY AROUND POLYPHONIC MUSIC PLAYED ON
FLUTES, ZITHERS AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS.
6. LITHUANIAN WEAVING IS A FOLK ART THAT HAS BEEN PASSED
DOWN THROUGH FAMILIES OF WEAVERS WHO HAVE INTEGRATED
LITHUANIAN SYMBOLISM AND MOTIFS INTO SASHES, TABLE
LINENS, AND OTHER CLOTHS TO DECORATE LITHUANIAN FOLK
COSTUMES OR THEIR HOME.
7. NATIONAL COSTUMES
Lithuanian traditional costumes feature long
skirts, aprons, vests, and hats for the
women, and long pants, vests or coats, and
boots for the men.
8. CINEMA
Arūnas Matelis has won two prizes at the Silverdocs and Brooklyn Festivals
in USA, the prestigious Directors Guild of America Award, and awards at the
Amsterdam, Madrid and Leipzig Film Festivals, for his full-length
documentary under the title “Before Flying Back to the Earth” telling about
children hospitalised with leukaemia and the lessons of love, faith and the
strength of mind learned in the hospital.
10. Museum of Rumšiškės
The Museum of Rumšiškės represents structures from different
Lithuanian regions: Žemaitija , Aukštaitija, Suvalkija, Dzūkija and
Lithuania the Minor. It boasts of having a collection of over 140
buildings from the 18-19th centuries that are all constructed with both
– original ancient interior, exterior and even the surroundings.
11. ST. ANNE'S CHURCH
The St. Anne’s Church impresses everyone visiting it –
the poor and the rich ones, local inhabitants and guests
from far away countries for centuries.
12. PAVILNIAI REGIONAL PARK
Pavilniai Regional Park is worth visiting because of
breathtaking natural monuments that have been
forming there during ages.
13. THE MUSEUM OF GENOCIDE VICTIMS
Each visitor of this Museum is able to go back
50-70 years in time and face the horrible facts of
Soviet aggression.
