vocational skills
• The teacher should help the pupil for his all
round personality development by promoting
the scientific outlook, positive attitude,
aptitude and personal philosophy of life
• The teacher should set an example for the
students. He should be able to practice what
he preaches. This will earn good respect for
his instructions on the part of the students
• The teacher should be a guide and
philosopher. He should not only criticize the
students. The teacher should suggest what is
good for the student
• The teacher should be prepared to
understand the needs and aspirations of
the students and act accordingly
• The teacher should be enterprising. He
should be innovative and active
• The teacher should have to follow
effective teaching methods. The
methods of teaching should be
according to the level, age and maturity
of the student
• He should be a bridge between the parents
and the students. His association with the
parents of pupils would help him to take care
of the pupils
• It is the important duty of the teacher to

of the pupil he should guide and counsel the
pupils
• As teachers, they should provide lot of
opportunities fore the student to cultivate
love for his country

system, untouchability etc

needs of the society are met by

• He should see that the social
programmes are adopted to the needs
of the community
Specific issues to be considered for
community welfare:
• How to create more favourable attitude
towards education generally
• How to reduce the distance between
desirable things in education and their
application
• How to adapt the right kind of
education to the boys and the girls
according to the conditions within each
type of community
Teacher should aware of the educational
potential of the community
• It has finance. It can create formal as well as
informal agencies for the purpose of
educating its members
• It has customs, practices, traditions and huge
mass of accumulated experience which is
educative
• There are group associations and
developmental programmes for the
community welfare where the teachers and
students can join
• The community sets the climate in which the
school functions. It determines the aims of
education and helps in designing the
curriculum as well as general organization of
the community school system
• The total educational programmes reflect the
trends, social, political, economic and
religious conditions and ideologies of the
community
• The community helps in the selection of
school personnel, and prescribes or sets
norms for effective school functioning
• The informal nature of education should
not be ignored by the teacher. It is
rather more important than the formal
one when the teacher’s role is viewed as
a social worker
• The teacher should be aware that unless
the community changes, the structure
of the society cannot be changed. The
ideals of industrialization and
modernization of the country would
remain in dreams
The teacher’s function…
• Map the community area
• Study the nature and structure of the
community
• Study the sources of formal and voluntary
agencies who can extend assistance to
community welfare
• Study the sources of community income

community
• Identifying the facilities to be provided for
the community

structure and processes

types

leaders

programmes of the community development

programme including students and the public

development

• The sentiment of nationalism
• The feeling of oneness
• Social, political, economic, emotional;
linguistic and cultural unity

behaviour

parochial loyalties to loyalty of the nation
Teacher’s Role in National Integration
• The teacher has to encourage the feeling of
oneness among the students
• He should take steps to develop social unity

linguism and provincialism
• All problems facing our country should
be solved on national basis
